Food was ok, it was very very clean and the staff where very helpful and friendly. Definitely would come back. Great views of the sea.

Superb fish and chips. Everything cooked to perfection quickly. The menu is much more comprehensive than the sample on their website including vegetarian options. The home-made fishcake is amazing and easily the best I've tried in a chippy - so nice I had to get another one!

Exactly what you expect from seaside fish and chips, quality fish with dry crispy batter, nothing soggy, good quality potatoes for the chips, and proper mushy peas, my partner’s curry sauce was very good too, combined with a lovely cup of tea, outside lovely sea view, and no seagulls trying to steal your chips, it makes the so called famous chippy further along the coast seem a bit second rate, great service and not silly prices,

The cod was frozen and probably cooked from frozen as it had the texture of chicken. No flakes and tough. Mushy peas were good. Chips average. Over priced and dissappointing

Food was lovely, service friendly and efficient. The view from the tables outside across the bay is great. There were more vegetarian options than most chip shops too.

We walked all the way down, had a wander, then walked all the way back up again. Everywhere else that is higher rated was closed so we stopped here. Really nice cod and superb chips. Great friendly service and we had the whole of the inside of the restaurant while everyone else fought over the tables outside!! Great view from our table. Highly recommend! Thank you.

Fish was really nice and the chips nice and fluffy. Curry sauce was also bang on. Staff were friendly and the view was great.

Ate outside as a takeaway customer and the cod was exceptional. Best we have had in a long time. Marked down due to lack of attention to cleaning of outdoor tables and condiments. Not dirty but not regularly checked or wiped between diners.

We was staying in Whitby but came to robin hoods bay for the day, we had the small cod and chips and small haddock and chip with a side portion of mushy peas and gravy and it was amazing the best fish and chips we had all weekend, it kept us full all day, lovely view to top it off

Lovely setting over looking the bay. Tasty, crispy haddock- superb. Everything is cooked to order and it was spot on. They knew their business and only £14.50 for the two of us.

Without a doubt the best Fish and Chips. Always fresh and piping hot. Plenty of seats to sit outside with lovely views of the bay. Good quick service and staff are friendly and helpful.

Who needs to stand in a airport queue,quarantine with all the hassle when you can have drinks or fish and chips with a view to rival any I have seen abroad. Service with disposable cups etc but good service.

We just wanted to get some chips, so were a little surprised to stumble across this place. The food was excellent and the views absolutely stunning. Friendly staff too.

Great view out to the sea... We ordered cod box and haddock fish. The food was all right.. What we had bad experience separately was the rude lady who took our oder - when my partner asked about the difference between Irish curry and fruity curry as they have 5 or 6 different curry sources on the menu. Instead of explaining the difference, she said they only do fruity curry! Why didn't the rest get crossed off the menu??? Then I tried to ask if they have toilet facility, and got totally ignored by the lady while she was too busy chatting with her colleague.Won't go back again, even for the view!

We had a meal at Fish Box at lunchtime on the first day of our holiday. The food was really hot. The sausages were tasty, the chips delicious and there was plenty of gravy. Would definitely have a meal there again.

Yes the fish is very tasty and lovely views outside but attitude of staff terrible my partner went to order takeaway we weren’t sitting outside at the restaurant we were taking the food on to the sea front and my partner was asked to do track n trace but refused as we weren’t sitting at the restaurant the lady working there didn’t like this but agreed ok as weren’t staying! When they shouted our number out to say the food was ready we didn’t realise was our order at first so we went to pick it up and proceeded to put condiments on on a table next to the window a guy working there proceeded to shout over the speaker so everyone can hear that we must leave the premises we said were just putting salt and vinegar on he then said you have it in the bag please leave again over the speaker! What a rude man we didn’t break any Covid rules and it seems as though rules and regulations are an excuse for rudeness and considering the tough times hospitality have had in recent months you would think they would be a lot more welcoming to their customers will not eat there again as it was nice but nice enough to take rudeness!

My partner and I drove from York and after being desperate for fish and chips, so glad we found this gem. The lady who served us (around 17:45) was very accommodating to our requests, even after being awkward with our drink selection she gave us a free one. We were so happy about being treated nicely that we came back for ice cream and, unsurprisingly, the same lady was very generous with the portions. It lightened our day to visit this place. These were the best fish and chips I’ve eaten in years. I never normally eat all the chips but I finished these despite it being a huge portion as they were so delicious. The location is great too, overlooking the bay and the staff were lovely. Definitely worth a visit.

Fish & chips were good quality, however tourist prices (to be expected in this location) nice food and spectacular views of the bay.

Got large fish and chips, fish was more medium than large. It was ok, but I’ve had better. Peas are more like tinned mushy peas, not proper mushy peas, and chips could of done to of been cooked a bit more. The main criticism I would have is not about the food it was the staff. Not very friendly, they made you feel like you were a hindrance more than anything. Certainly no service with a smile. Need to show a bit more customer care.

Called at the Fish Box on our visit to Robin Hoods Bay after a recommend from Paul & Malcolm who run The Grange B & B in the village,Its a long time since I ate Fish & Chips outside while taking in the view over the Bay.All covid precautions had been put in place and the shop was very busy .Must say they were the best Fish & Chips I have had in a long while we will certainly call again when we are next in the area.

We were very disappointed, had large haddocks which weren't particularly large and not nice fish but expensive, plenty of chips but soggy. Wish we hadn't bothered. Quality needs looking into.

We were in town and couldn't resist, and were very glad we stopped for some fish and chips. Service was quick, it was quite busy but we were lucky to get a table outside looking out to the sea. A great lunch spot

We know this is a fish restaurant but they do advertise cakes. It is extremely popular for fish and chips so a bit of a wait. The coffee was good and the cakes were good. No seating inside due to Covid.

Cooked to order, fantastic large haddock and chips box, enough to be shared between 2 (or 1 very hungry person). Cracking views over the Bay too.

With lovely views and amazing scampi, how could you say no to fishbox? It's twin sister in Whitby isn't bad, but it doesn't have the seafront views that this one does :-) Strong contender for the cheap and cheerful champion of Robin Hood's Bay.

We visited here on our first night on holiday, it was nice to see grilled halloumi on the menu for my veggie wife. Lovely flaky fish and nice chips served in a box! Had to sit on benches outside.

Cook abused someone for forgetting to put his mask on but coughed on the fish and wiped the phlegm on his hand double standards. No gloves or mask for him.

In these difficult times we resorted to fish and chips rather than sit in a pub for a meal. Pleasantly surprised at this little place, lovely fish (albeit could have been slightly bigger), fairly nice chips and lovely mushy peas. All in all a decent bite.

Had lovely fish and chips from here.They have a brilliant system in place to deal with the new restrictions,and it all worked efficiently and smoothly.The portions were massive,and it was a beautiful piece of fish,very flaky and succulent.Well worth the money.I only marked down one as the young girl did forget to put our ketchup in,which we didn't realise until we were down on the seafront and opened the bag. Only a minimal thing,and they were very busy dealing with a big order at the time so not her fault.Would recommend for perfect fish and chips

Clean premises with spectacular views. Fish was tasteless and chips soggy. Meal was overwhelmed by unpleasant taste of oil used for frying!

Fab location to sit outside of an evening and sample the fish and chips. First time here for us and we were not disappointed. Portions were huge! freshly cooked and so delicious - we will definately come back

Excellent food, piping hot and delicious. Came here Saturday evening on our first evening in nearby Ravenscar to grab a quick bite to eat. Portion size is large, fish is delicious and the staff are friendly. Really good Covid measures in place, good queue system and outdoor eating area well spaced. Order at the counter and then collect from the window.Menu isn’t the most extensive but very good for a quick bite to eat or takeaway on the go!

Great COVID precautions that didn’t detract from the absolutely delicious (and huge) portion of haddock and chips. Speedy friendly service and the food was superbly cooked and really really tasty. Thoroughly recommend.

We were looking for a quick hot lunch as the weather was misty and damp. Came across the Fish Box at the top of the hill about 12.30pm. Ordered fish and chips, they arrived very quickly and although no seating was available at the site (due to social distancing) we found some at the back of the carpark below the shop. They were fresh and delicious a wooden fork was provided and the portion size was very good.

We had chips in Whitby and here in Robin Hoods Bay and absolutely no question, these were amazing! Not sure if it's the produce or the oil, but the chips were slightly sweet.Obviously it helps that its a hot sunny day and you have great views but these were amazing.Definitely the best fish and chips I've eaten.

I eat fish and chips pretty regularly. Often these are home-made, but I do like my takeaway fish and chips too. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had f&c as nice as these. The fish itself was melt-in-the-mouth beautiful - tender, tasty, terrific. The batter was crunchy all the way round, not soggy in places like it is from some shops. The chips were fluffy and sweet and not overly greasy. In fact, the whole meal was marked by an absence of excess fat, something which often mars otherwise good fish and chips. The mushy peas were earthy, flavourful and a proper consistency. But the real star of the show was the tartare sauce. There were two options Heinz or homemade. No-brainer really, and boy were we glad we opted for their homemade one! It was something else. It tasted the way you always wish tartare sauce would taste before you’re left feeling a little disappointed. Our only regret is not buying a pot each rather than sharing. A large fish, small fish, two sausages and four portions of chips came to just under £30, which I would consider good value for money.We will definitely be returning here next time we go to Robin Hoods Bay.Oh, one last thing: I think the fryer’s name was Tim. And the girls who served us and spoke to me afterwards were lovely.

We enjoyed fish and chips today from the Fish Box. Lovely and hot and the batter on the fish was lovely and crispy. The home made tartar sauce is lovely. Fast service too.

Had lovely fish and chips with no complaints. However, the portion size was not huge and at £8 a time, I thought was a little pricey. We live coastally and can get larger portions for less ..

Such a shame as was genuinely looking forward to this meal. Soggy batter as other reviewers have mentioned and quite mediocre chips. Might have been an off day, I'm not sure. Had a feeling they just wanted the day to end. A shame.

Had fish chips and curry sauce from here on 15/7/20 at lunch time . The batter on the fish was very soggy not crisp at all, and the chips were ok. The curry sauce was very watery and had no flavour . Disappointing as I was looking forward to it . Unfortunately not up to the usual standard .

Vegetarians AVOID. Cannot be trusted! 11th July I visited The Fish Box with my husband and friends and ordered a quorn sausage and chips. When the order was ready “quorn sausage” was read out, which was something I checked with my husband when I bit into and thought.. this doesn’t feel right. Had a discussion and concluded it was probably just cooked well because vegetarian food can be so like meat now. I was uncomfortable but foolishly put my trust in the business. Well when it came to the second one and I saw the inside I immediately knew that was the quorn one and I had just eaten a pork sausage. To be clear, I’ve not eaten meat for an entire 17 years. I’ve had the odd mishap at restaurants but never have I eaten an entire portion of the meal. If you don’t eat meat for ethical reasons it’s VERY upsetting to know you’ve just eaten an animal. I don’t expect all meat eaters to understand that, I’m reasonable. But it is just a horrible horrible thought. I went back into the shop and queried if the sausage I hadn’t eaten was quorn- yes it was. I informed the gentleman and lady behind the till that in that case what I had just eaten was meat. In response, a discussion started which involved the phrase “they can’t possibly have been mixed up.” If a vegetarian tells you they’ve eaten meat, they know. It’s a big deal. I was so cross at being told it didn’t happen.Anyway, eventually I got an acceptance of the mistake and an “all I can say is sorry.” I wanted some assurances that it wouldn’t happen to someone else, not an argument about who’s fault in the shop it was and an accusation that I was wrong. I was then asked “can I do anything to make it up to you?” A fair question. My response was no, you can’t. Because you can’t. It’s done. However, the question, AS SOON AS I told the employees, should have gone something like this “I’m so sorry this has happened, we will look into why and make sure it doesn’t happen again. We will give you a refund, which we know doesn’t make up for it but we hope is a gesture of how sorry we are. Would this be acceptable?” Id still have been cross, but at least I’d have left thinking they’d cared about what had happened. I also wouldn’t have felt the need to warn others on here.So in conclusion, AVOID, because I highly suspect from their attitude that nothing will change and all the sausages will be kept together in future and someone else will have the same horrible experience. If you can’t be 100% sure that the vegetarian food you promise actually IS vegetarian then you should NOT be selling it.

After walking from Ravenscar to Robinhoods Bay we were looking forward to fish and chips. We decided to have a rest and walked to the back of the shop where there were benches with great sea views. Unfortunately the view was spoilt by the rubbish that was all over the grass area despite there being a bin. The shop needs to ensure that this area is cleaned on a regular basis as the rubbish which was mainly empty cardboard cartons from their fish and chips spoilt the area. We decided not to buy from here.

Time of visit was approx 1.30pm.The change of service during the coronavirus 'lockdown' seemed to cause a problem with the staff and their ability to provide decent customer service. A simple 'hello, and please bear with us' would have been suffice, but instead we were stood (in the correct waiting spot) and ignored for 5 minutes before the servers could bring themselves to acknowledge us. Taking the order (for 7 people) also seemed too complicated. It took 3 attempts before they could get the order correct.Upon collection, the server failed to tell us that cutlery, salt and vinegar was included in the bag when they handed it over... All in all not a good experience.Fish and chips were good. It wasn't greasy, nice portion of chips and and great batter. The fish wasn't especially tasty to say it was a seaside village, but it was nice overall. Generous portions of curry sauce and gravy!

Located at top of the steep slope down to Robin Hood's Bay the Fish Box has great views across the bay as well very tasty fish and chips. The fish is sourced locally from Whitby and the potatoes from the local farmers. The food is cooked to order and presented in a box that is bio-degradable. Nice touch.Recommend the Haddock with chips.

We grabbed a takeaway and took it back to our holiday cottage - it was superb food ! It’s looks great inside as well to stay and eat in ! Would highly recommend. !

We had fish & chips tonight. Excellent. The fish was white, well cooked and the batter excellent. Chips were also excellent. We would say that they were the best we've eaten for years.

Located at the top of the Main Street into Robin Hood’s Bay, the Fish Box offers great fish and chips with a stunning view out down to the beach and of the coastline. That’s from the outdoor seating area. There is also indoor seating, with a nice warming fire.

It was very busy when we visited so we ate as we walked down to the beach! Clearly very popular as every table inside was taken! The chips were fantastic and I wish we bought more now! Would recommend to friends

I have been visiting Robin Hood's Bay for almost 18 years (with a holiday home close by). I did some research on TripAdvisor this past weekend, as my son wanted fish and chips.

We arrived at Robin Hoods bay on a Friday afternoon in November. Whilst walking our dog we noticed the 'Fish Box' at the top of the hill before heading down into the bay.

I get fish and chips from Fish box when ever i'm in robin hoods bay. In summer it's amazing to sit outside and look out at the sea. The food has been nice each time i've visited. One time it was raining and extremely busy and all the seats were taken inside , so had to just get some chips to go. Still yummy.

Placed well to capture people coming back up or going down; we went in on our way back up in need of food.

We visited here on a wet and windy afternoon. The service was friendly and efficient! Fish and chips were gorgeous, as was the curry sauce and gravy. We all really enjoyed our meal and has fantastic views over Robin Hoods Bay. Will return!

A fabulous fish and chip box, with a bread roll and a tea - just what the doctor ordered after climbing down and back up the hill!

Coming from a landlocked county, we just had to try fish & chips in Robin Hoods Bay. The Fish Box has seating with sea views both indoors and outside and the cooking area was spotless. They also did take-aways and whether eat-in or out, the food was served in totally recyclable boxes. All the fish was MSC certified and we could see where it had been caught. Service was prompt and very friendly. If we had been staying longer we would have returned to try a different fish. Lower calorie options of fish without batter were available too.

Our first impression was not a good one with the chaotic ordering system at the door and some queue jumping by a group which meant we had over a 15 minute wait for our order standing waiting by the door. A possible solution would be to take a ticket with your food order so you don't have to stand around looking into space.

Fresh to order and a great refuel after cycling up the hill! Delicious!! Tasted great with tartar sauce too. Highly recommend.

We ate fish and chips outside in glorious sunshine in the middle of September. The food is fresh,well cooked and reasonably priced. It was clean and the staff were friendly. If you’re hungry in Robin Hood’s Bay, this is a good place to stop. It’s at the top of the hill before you go down to the Bay.

Husband had fish and chips from here. Obviously I had to try some they were very tasty and cooked freshly to order. Reasonable priced and very friendly staff.

An all too rare day out seemed to be going from bad to worse culminating in our satnav (pratnav?) did some stupid things and we finished up in the middle of nowhere.

I was drawn by the view and delicious smell... The glass cases seemed to have scant cooked fish for the number of people queueing but the reason was clear when the man in front of me was asked what he wanted - cod or haddock? He said whichever was quicker - but was told everything is cooked to order. Impressive.

We stayed at robins hood bay this year and we love this place the fish and chips are the best on the coast. The staff are really friendly and helpful too. Just located at the top of the hill just before you descend on the walk down the steep robins hood bay. Can eat in or outside with plenty of seating and some gorgeous views of the sea. They do some good offers for a drink included with food so look on the board as lots to choose from. It’s a shame they close at 7pm as so popular and whilst we sat outside lots still trying the door after 7pm. They were really good still letting people in at 7.10pm but shame doesn’t stay open for longer on set days. Lovely portion sizes and really fresh and tasty so worth the visit especially on the way back up the hill you burn up an appetite.

Called here on a very wet Wednesday night. Ordered the Large Haddock meal (Haddock, Chips, Peas,Tea). It was freshly cooked to order by the friendly staff and when it arrived it was MASSIVE! Fish was really fresh and the whole meal was excellent value for £9 in my opinion. Definitely the highlight of the evening!

Popped by last week and was gutted to see the fish shop close at 7pm on a busy Bank Holiday week.

Delicious grilled halloumi salad with chips on the side and proper Ben Shaw's Dandelion and Burdock, all with a sea view over Robin Hood's Bay. A huge thank you to the friendly staff too, who were working tirelessly to keep a constant queue served. They never stopped, it was a really warm day and they provided great service. Great menu options. Recommended!

We visited tonight and ordered two battered sausages and chips with curry sauce, chicken burger and fish and chips all meals were delicious. The salad on the burger was really fresh. We will definitely be visiting again.

Myself and my family visited the restaurant on our first evening in robin hoods bay after having it recommended to us by a local lady at the lifeboat centre.

A small fish & chip type cafe at the top of the town before the steep climb down to the beach. There is outside seating with stunning views of the bay. The service was quick although we only had drinks so cannot comment on the food.

First time I've been here with my other half, I honestly can not complain about anything to do with this establishment.

Just finished our fish and chips here. Have to be the best haddock and chips we’ve had all week while on holiday around Scarborough! The chips were perfect and the batter crispy and light. Lovely views across the bay too.

Can’t say how good the fish was here, light flakey and not greasy at all. Really enjoyed it! Not to mention the price was superb and the views even better!

My husband, myself and daughter tried Fish Box on our recent holiday to Robin Hood’s Bay and were very impressed with it. We managed to get seating outside overlooking the Bay and were served quickly considering the amount of people who were also there. I personally considered all three of our meals (one children’s) to be of a good size so I disagree with a previous comment about ‘meagre’ portion size. Overall a very good meal and would definitely call in again.

Stopped here for a bite to eat after doing the Whitby to Robin Hoods Bay coastal walk. The ladies serving were very friendly. We had the fish, chips, mushy peas and a cuppa deal and it was great, just what was needed.

Bought a regular cod to take home supposed to be large at a fiver ridiculously poor value weighed 6 oz with batter - clearly a nice little cash cow will not be going again

The fish box has beautiful views over the bay with ample seating inside and out. The fish and chips were lovely and fresh the staff were welcoming and polite. The only minus is that they close early so if you fancy a late supper you carnt get one
