Possibly the worst Sunday lunch I’ve ever had, it’s certainly in the top two, but I can’t currently think of the other one. The seating arrangements were very strange with lots of small disjointed rooms. Very friendly staff but unfortunately I don’t the chef was up to the task. Cauliflower cheese without any cauliflower was a new one on me. Definitely a drinkers pub, not recommended for food. A poor decision to eat there on our par,t especially as there is so much choice nearby.

Beautiful old pub, worth visiting just to marvel at the mirrors and decoration. Staff are very friendly and welcoming to us and our dog. We had Sunday roasts which were perfectly cooked, just the right size portion and obviously made with quality ingredients. Food prices are very reasonable. Small range of wine, only one non alcohol beer but Sam Smiths beer is a rare find in London so they can be forgiven for that

Lovely sunny day in London, however this worked to the detriment on the service of food. I ordered an aubergine tart with polenta chips and watercress.....I was delivered a tart (pastry base with what can only be called a slight tomato passata on top), with chunky fries, and salad. When I queried where the polenta chips were 'oh - we were run out and should have informed you', as for the watercress.....when queried about this a saucer of watercress was brought over.

This is a seriously beautiful, quaint, classic London boozer, with multiple log fires and even a small library (with log fire) upstairs. The place is immaculate. The staff were unfailingly polite, interested and humorous. The food was good. Our party of 3 had chicken schnitzel twice and fish and chips and enjoyed the lot. The beer is Sam Smiths. Not my favourite at all but reminds me of my days at York University, where it had the benefits of being very cheap and brewed just up the road at Tadcaster. Aside from the beer I cannot recommend this pub in Fitzrovia enough! Thank you to all the staff who looked after us so well.

Girlfriend wanted a little visit to Fitzroy Tavern before going out for her birthday. Decided to swing by earlier on in the day to check it out. Had a chat with one of the team and said we have a group coming in later, and would he mind storing the birthday cake. He was very accommodating and said he'd reserve us a table for 10 people. Came back later on in the evening and we had the big table on the other side of the bar. The team (Graham, Matt and... Charlotte? I think?) Asked me when I'd like the cake to be brought out and they did a fantastic job of it. Great atmosphere in the pub, really accommodating team, very friendly, we all had a great evening. Thanks so much 🙏

What a refreshing change in the west end. Quality home food for a reasonable price. True quality cookery, bringing you the flavours of fine dining in the package of a warm, homely old British pub. A great selection of beers and bar snacks make this a great hangout for you and your friends. Keep warm by their cozy fire whilst enjoying a delicious porter. Dinner, upstairs was delicious with even my friends vegetarian option being packed with flavour and expertly cooked. We can highly recommend!

If you want to experience a Karen’s diner without having to visit one, have a drink downstairs as you might be lucky enough to be served by the worlds rudest and unnecessarily aggressive barman. I think his name was Chris, but can’t be sure, so will call them Ken. Can see previous posts and pictures about the same person and really don’t understand why the attitude. If you want a nice drink in a lovely setting, definitely go to the upstairs bar where the staff could not have been friendlier.

Beautiful pub honestly one of the nicest I have ever been in. Cosy fireplace room was stunning and the bar staff upstairs were super friendly. Had a very very poor experience in the downstairs bar where my drink was literally slammed down in front of me by the barman because we dared to ask if they served Malibu. Honestly could not believe how anyone can work in a customer environment and display that level of rudeness However, the decor and the rest of the staff and pub made up for this once we went upstairs. I’ve had a quick look at other reviews and can see this isn’t the first time this has been raised about bar staff rudeness which is a shame as it’s the one thing that really would make me question coming back.

Terrible experience of one barman at this pub who was extremely aggressive throughout the evening and eventually was actually shouting at us. I took a photo of him in order to make a complaint as he refused to give me his name - he then lunged towards me ( I’m a professional woman in my 50s ) and tried to wrestle my phone off me. The tavern has a great history, it looks great. However the food is aweful, what pub can’t do a fish and ships ? Fish was dry and disgusting. Then when moving downstairs to have a couple pints, staff forgot to ask for IDs when getting the drinks at the bar. Then, realized 1 hour later when we were having our second ones, came to ask, one of us had forgotten it, they took all of us out and took the half full drinks away.I understand it is the law, however They had made the mistake not to ask, it was too late to take back drinks we had already paid for. No kindness of reimbursement, it was their fault and still they treated us like thieves. We didn’t want to make an argument of it at the moment, but thinking back I wanted to share that with you all.Now if you’re thinking of going to a pub, just go to the next one

Invited an important client for a pint after work here last night. Went to buy a drink...no barman. Waited and waited...no barman. A bloke with a beard waves a mobile phone at me, into which he was chatting. Waited some more to get a drink...no barman. Went into the next door bar to see if there was a barman. No barman. Said chap with beard walks into the bar and I ask him if he's the barman. Yes, he says. I said I thought it was rude to desert the bar and leave customers with no way to order drinks. He disappears. Then he returns and says "drink elsewhere'! What? For complaining that there was no one serving drinks...in a pub? I know how little these guys get paid and I don't expect them to be happy but this was so rude and aggressive it was off the scale. Went to the 'Marquis of Granby' where there were lots of people behind the bar...went to the 'Newman Arms' where there were lots of people behind the bar. They actually...smiled and said to me 'what can we get you to drink'? You won't get that at 'The Fitzroy'. Avoid it for a few months when hopefully the bar staff will have changed.

We found this pub on the way back to the station after a day out in LondonThe menu is not extensive but we all found something we wanted to eat and whilst not the biggest portions or best food in the world it served its purpose as we were hungry! Had to wait until on tne dot of 6 to order though and then there was a rush to the bar to order.Felt sorry for the barman as he was serving drinks, taking food orders, serving the food and clearing plates. He seriously needed help! But he remained friendly which would have been difficult under the circumstances!Saw the sign which advised no phones but no ban as far as I could see and it wasn't enforced- mind you I am sure the barman couldn't have done that as well!!Lucky for us as had mute teenager with us!Plus we needed to check train times so needed to use the phone. So a nice experience for us- not expensive as far as London prices go and although busy there was alot of seats when we first arrived at 5.30- much busier when we left at 7.15.

Ahh, the real London pub experience! Including a cell phone ban upstairs! Loved it. The Fitzroy has a really interesting history - try to either read a book or even do a quick wikipedia scan on the Bloomsbury Set if you can beforehand to really appreciate the folks who made this their local haunt so many years before. I don't drink, but the beer prices were reasonable and the menu offered a vegan chili which I appreciated. Was it the greatest vegan chili in the world? Nah. Did it warm me up and fill my belly? You betcha! Do make sure to visit on a day the upstairs is open (for us it landed on a Monday lunchtime) and vie for a seat by the fire for a drink or two.

Great pub and what a pub should be like, they're are plenty of gastro pubs with open spaces to go too should you want. It's back to what it used to be like when the likes of Dylan Thomas, Aleister Crowley, Julian MacLaren Ross, Wyndham Lewis, hangman Albert Pierrepoint, Walter Sickert, Nina Hamnett and Augustus John to name but a few used to drink there. It's a pub with snugs, noise, of course it's a pub not a church, it's for drinkers and thinkers.

Used to come here quite frequently, but not really in the area much now. Recently spent a Friday afternoon and evening there. After watching people wait about an hour for food, got moved from the upstairs area at 3pm - not a huge problem. Then at 830 was moved from the back Saloon Bar, as apparently the council say it must close then. Back upstairs, which closed again at 9. Finally to the smaller Saloon Bar area, which - you guessed it - closed at 1030. Combined with pretty slow service and abrupt staff each time being moved means it wasn't the best night.Beer is cheap though, and the decor is very nice. Downstairs is a segregated bar, beautifully done, but this in itself makes it hard to get served. Was told to complain to Sam Smith himself. The guy who set the brewery up in the 19th Century.Looking at recent reviews, looks like I'm not the only one who's had issues here...

We decided to go to the Fitzroy with friends for more beers, it happened to be the hottest day on record, in London. We stood outside chatting and drinking, it being so warm.

We came to the pub and had booked for a group of 20 people for a private space, after 15 minutes being late whilst we were trying to call them and we got no answer, we received a call saying that they have given our space away! What is the point of booking if you can't even ask whether you can give the space or not? When I went up to the so called "manager" who is the most disrespectful and unprofessional person I have ever encountered he started shouting that he doesn't care and his pub is always full of people and it is what it is... He then threatened to kick all the group I was with out of the pub for NO REASON. its such a shame for such a nice pub, clearly capitalism has gone all over him and cannot understand that he is in the service industry who is working with people not wallets. I would not recommend anyone to go there as the place is filled with negative energy.

I then rang to ask again a few days later because this seemed unreasonable and it turns out the booking had been made after all. I had to visit in person to get a coherent answer, and look at their diary for them. When we were in the pub, the area was not big enough and the staff were rude to us from the offset. Considering we were bringing a lot of business they could have smiled at least once! Upon closing the door staff attempted to fight with one of us, and majorly escalated a verbal dispute. I had time to kill prior to catching my train so had a couple of pints here. It’s a lovely traditional pub with a 19th century setting. There’s no getting away from the fact that London is an expensive place to have a beer, but here it’s possible to get a pint of lager(taddy 4.5%) for £3.80 or double four lager (4%) for £3.40. This is probably as good as it gets in the capital - even cheaper than Wetherspoons. The staff were pleasant and the surrounding area of Fitzrovia is very nice. Well worth a visit

Comida excelente y precio razonable. Me encanta este lugar. Nos aseguraremos de personal hecho. .

Fitzrovia’s most famous pub, The Fitzroy Tavern (on the corner of Charlotte Street and Windmill Street), apparently started out as a coffee house, and re-established itself as a pub (called ‘The Hundred Marks’) in the 1880s.

Ground floor like a pub but try the first floor for a more relaxed atmosphere. Been twice now to meet friends before we went out to a local restaurant

My favourite pub in London, nestled in the heart of Fitzrovia on Charlotte Street. Redone to what it originally looked like, the high ceilings, silo'd areas and classical decor will take you back to the early 1900's.

We had fish and chips. The fish was huge, and we'll prepared. It pared well with the cider on tap.Sticky toffee pudding was perfect. We had it with both ice cream and custard.

Very nice pub, good well priced beer, let down by the poor food. Ordered Fish and chips, fish came uncooked in the middle, over done peas and chips, waitress replaced and gave a very poor excuse for under cooked fish. I think it had been cooked from frozen.

Enjoyed a lovely pub experience for our last night in London. The food was excellent, with a nice selection of beers. The craft beers offered something different. The service was good. We sat upstairs in a newly renovated section. Definitely recommended.

I remember this place for many years and have enjoyed it's unique atmosphere and good food. I was quite surprised to see it totally refurbished (2016-2017). I don't understand why it had to be redesigned so radically - in my view the old look was what made this place so special. Nevertheless, I would still recommend it to people who are looking for genuine London pub atmosphere.

This is a Sam Smiths pub so the decor is Victorian, the beers are Sam Smiths only and are well kept with the prices less than average for central London. There are a lot of nooks and crannies - little rooms to get comfortable in. A nice pub for a chat and drinks with friends - not too loud and nice and cosy. The restaurant looks good although we didn't try it this time.

We lunched here twice. The upstairs dining area bordered on posh; it felt very "clubby" if you will. The menu was eclectic and we enjoyed all of our selections. The service was timely and professional (though we did dine early so there was not a crowd to contend with). If you find yourself of Charlotte St. around noon, consider this place for the food and the atmosphere (and the air conditioning should it be sweltering outside). Also, we found the prices reasonable.

This is a nice looking pub in a very interesting part of London. I wandered in on a hot summer afternoon and I was shocked to discover the price of a half-pint bottle of lager. It was more than four pounds for Sam Smith's.This is excessive and ensures I will not be returning to this establishment. There are lots of other pubs in the area with, I am sure, more reasonable prices.

Tuli syötyä perinteinen leivitetty turska ja perunat. Vallan maistuva annos. Pepperonipitsassa oli kuulemma liikaa juustoa. Kohtuulliset hinnat ja hyvä palvelu.

A very welcome lunch stop. We were thoroughly enjoying a walk in the Olympic Park, but feeling peckish. OK it was lunchtime, but I fancied the breakfast in a box. Which was warmed up for me. Back home (150 miles to the north), it would not have rated very highly. But in London I wanted something not vegetarian, and it rang my bell. There was the bacon, tasty sausage, beans, tomatoes, something potatoey, what was once egg and some green stuff (?) But it was warm enough, tasty, filling, and actually I quite enjoyed it. As, and when, we return for another walk I would probably choose it again. Incidentally the staff we friendly and helpful. The place was clean and tidy.

Avoid. I was sat at a dirty table, then ignored for 10 minutes so I walked out. I asked if I could sit inside, waiter said yes. There were other customers already inside. I asked if I could sit at the back, the assistant manager said yes. Table was used, so manager removed some empty glasses off the table but didn’t clean spills/crumbs, didn’t bring a menu, didn’t come back. I stared at all the staff, for 10mins. A waitress was cleaning cutlery at her station. The general manager was stood at the till. I was near the kitchen door that staff came in and out of. I’d say the whole place was 20% capacity? Not even busy. Baffling, really.
