Well, it's not often I eat out and write a review that is giving 100%perfection. Popped in for a drink this afternoon with my daughter and her boyfriend. The fire was roaring, the smell from kitchen was addictive.......the setting cozy and a hum of happy diners........the staff, first class each one of them, im lost for words.......how can 1 place tick every box ? But it has xx ....of course we had to stay....... I had the roast belly of pork......absolutely sublime mouth wateringly delicious every single mouthful...(my only slight criticism was the yorkshire was too crispy on the bottom too , it shattered, i like a little bit of softer batter there) ......so good in fact I kept a piece to bring home for my son! as he was travelling home from a weekend away. My daughter had the root vegetable stew and the most beautiful mash and her boyfriend had the pheasant burger......everything was just the best Money well spelt and cannot wait to return next weekend. Thank you so much

Being a local, two of us popped in on the off chance to eat on a Saturday afternoon. It's the first time we have eaten there. The pub itself is lovely and famed for its connections to Princess Diana and the Spencer family. It's very close to Althorp house. I had pan-roasted supreme of chicken, whipped potatoes, squash puree, which was quite nice, but the amount wasn't great. The other person I was with had fish and chips, the fish was fine but the chips were really bad. They were hard/overcooked or looked like they had been refried. We had soft drinks with it. I wouldn't recommend the food there based on my own experience for the price we paid. Sadly, we won't be eating there again to eat, but we will still visit during the summer months as it has two lovely outside areas with seating. I edited my post to add the correct meal, sorry for my mistake

Been here for a pint and a bite to eat many times over the last 15 years. The pub is a lovely old country inn with tons of character and cosy nooks and crannies to sit in on a winters day or night. The staff are really friendly and helpful too. However, the food I got, whilst very nice was in the most ungenerous portions I have ever had in any pub. I opted for soup to start which was delicious, but in a very small bowl which itself was only filled with about one ladle measure of soup. The main course again was really good but served up in a really mean portion. I'm not a huge eater but come on Althorp coaching inn , be a little more generous with the food you serve ...

Without question a fabulous setting ,a warm welcome, good wine and a very very enjoyable local ale. Staff both attentive and engaging, in summary a great venue with first rate service. Unfortunately we now come to the but. It's really disappointing when the food fails to match an otherwise very pleasing standard. We had to return one of our meals because quality of the meat , likewise all of our other mains were underwhelming.

We’ve been here twice now in the space of a week and both times the food and service have been of a very high quality. The menu choice is excellent and offers a wide range of gluten free options which was welcomed by my wife. I couldn’t give it less than 5 stars, however I think there are a couple of things that could make it better still. The pizza options could be improved by an offering of build your own at a sensible price option. We have an 11 year old daughter who has almost outgrown the child’s menu and we’ve struggled to find good options for her. A simpler pizza option and perhaps a simplified burger option that isn’t laced with mustard would be most welcome for those seeking something simpler or for children who don’t yet have the taste buds for something a little more ‘fancy’. Overall though the food is excellent and we were well looked after in the bar and restaurant in our previous visit. Highly recommended!

This is a really lovely pub. We stayed overnight in our camper in the car park (by appointment). The food was excellent, the service was attentive but not obtrusive and the gorgeous olde worlde bar was very atmospheric. The menu is broad and varied, covering vegetarian and vegan requirements with thoughtful meals; the drinks list is also very comprehensive. Dogs are welcome, with water bowls and snacks provided in the bar. The pub is a very short walk from Althorp Hall, the home of Princess Diana, should anyone be interested. The countryside is lovely rolling farmland and woodland, with multiple footpaths heading off in all directions. We didn't see enough so we'll be going again to split a long journey from York to the South coast. Recommended in BritStops, a camper & motorhome app for overnight stopovers.

Offers a Korean style burger with kimchi . The batter on the burger was badly burned and a sliver of chicken remained ,. the kimchi was a carrot salad with raw onion . Very disappointing especially as prices are high. Response To the owner: I asked the waitress about the kimchi she said it was the Asian slaw which was also tasteless and the onion was too raw and overpowering, I am very familiar with kimchi I was not confused and it was not in the bun either. your waitress said she will inform the kitchen but she never acted on it.

Everything about this beautiful historic village pub ouses class. We visited for lunch yesterday and booked a table whilst sat outside in our car and were both fitted in immediately. On entry, it was evident just how homely and cozy this public house was with character in abundance, beams and old brickwork everywhere as well as a few well behaved dogs! The staff were very accommodating and quickly sat us taking our orders also in quick fashion. We both had mains only with a drink each, my wife had the fish and chips and I had the lamb shank, both were exceptionally tasty, my wife sliced me off a large piece of her cod which was better than any chip shop I had visited..... Perfect. My Lambshank was delicious 10/10, but the highlights of the pub were the staff. We were served by a very young lady who was superb, helpful and friendly and a huge asset to the pub. Everywhere, even the toilets, were so clean and tidy and full of character..... I have visited hundreds of Northamptonshire pubs and this tops the lot characterwise. Starters were lovely however one was forgotten, for mains we ordered the steak burgers which was the only nice main we recieved the other mains were the beef however staff didn't think to mention the beef was served rare but 2 of the dishes were pretty much still beating and cold 😅 aswell as we asked for a steak knife and was left waiting for about 10 minutes before we had to ask a second member of staff for it. We Ordered a side of pigs and blankets if you can even call them that it was 2 uncooked sausages on a plate of horseradish. And to top it all off a member of staff with blonde hair would not stop giving our table dirty looks which made us quite uncomfortable neither did she give out a daffodil to my mother which was made very clear that they were being given out to all mothers once paid 😠. Ridiculous!! However a staff member with dark hair working within the barn was very nice and helpful this was the only nice thing out of the experience. Found the whole meal quite disappointing which is sad as all I've heard is good reviews.

My visit to Althorp Coaching Inn was a delightful experience that combined charming surroundings, a welcoming atmosphere, and delicious cuisine. The inn's beautiful building exudes character, creating a cosy backdrop that enhances the overall dining ambience. The friendly atmosphere at Althorp Coaching Inn is truly noteworthy, making guests feel not just customers but welcomed visitors. The menu boasts an array of tempting options, and my choice of the Philly Steak was a culinary highlight. The pink bavette steak, sautéed peppers & onions, chilli, gratinated cheese, and paprika mayonnaise created a flavour symphony that left a lasting impression. While the food was undeniably delicious, there was a slight hiccup as both my meal and those of my associates arrived slightly colder than expected. Despite this, the overall experience was so enjoyable that we didn't feel compelled to raise the matter with the staff, especially considering time constraints. In the grand scheme, Althorp Coaching Inn successfully blends historic charm, friendly service, and tasty cuisine. It's a place where the warmth of the surroundings and the flavours on the plate combine for a memorable dining experience, even if the temperatures were a bit cooler than ideal.

Enjoyed a lovely meal. Staff worked extremely hard giving excellent service. Unfortunately I believe they were understaffed resulting in a slow service

Pulled up outside and on a cold wet day it didn’t look too inviting. So glad we went in , lovely service and delicious food.

Popped in on Thursday this week for a spur of the moment meal. Met with a warm welcome, shown to a table with drinks and food arriving swiftly. The food was delicious. Really well presented and incredibly tasty. The belly pork was tender, with beautiful crackling and a sumptuous sauce. The clam tine and gingerbread upside down cake was unreal. Could have eaten it again! AND……very reasonably priced. For a freezing cold night, we left warm and happy. Will definitely be back.

All of us went out for a meal at the lion , The waiter service was very nice and very polite. I have no complaints there however I chose to have the small fish and chips at £15… The chips and one of my colleague chips tasted awful and the fish was Only half battered and was an exceptionally small portion . Pub was clean and friendly
