My wife treated me to a lovely meal here on Friday. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu and I really could not fault it. Each course was presented perfectly and delicious. The servers were all great and hats off to one who noted my wife uses her cutlery the other way round ( i forgot his nsme ) Attention to detail. That’s only ever happened once before in The Fat Duck. By the time the 7th course arrived we were pretty full up but we had a go. The setting of the restaurant was in an old school and it looked lovely. Thank you to all team at Galvin La Chappele for making our evening perfect in everyway.

had the taster menu. I really think the portions on each plate were too small, although they were delicious. red mullet was so delicious. Please consider the portion sizes and it would be 5 stars for food. From looking around the a la carte menu seemed to have good portions. otherwise a lovely afternoon with pleasant and knowledgeable staff, nice wine and a charming venue.

Absolutely delicious! Just had the BEST lunch for a family birthday. I'm Dairy & Gluten Free and was able to have the 7 course Gourmand menu, with obvious modifications, but NO fuss. It was wonderful to feel 'normal' and not to have to work my way through an allergens list. The GF bread was the best I've ever tasted! Thank you to Giles and everyone at Galvin la Chappelle who looked after us beautifully and made us feel so welcome and special. The venue is gorgeous and although this was our first visit, it won't be our last. Thank you. Philippa, Ian & Louisa X

Galvin is a stalwart of French cooking in London, and offers one of the best vfm set menu experiences. I went to try the Taste Of Summer menu. We started with a gazpacho, followed by sauteed squid, and a deconstructed cassoulet for the main course, with dessert courses coming after. I liked all the courses with the cassoulet and the lemon tart being the highlights, and the squid being the lowlight. However, I did feel that the portions could have been a little bigger. Great selection of wines, and expert sommeliers to guide selection improved the dining experience . The dining room itself is monumental and worth a glance on its own.

Beautiful restaurant, good food, but amazing service. The shining star was the treatment of our children and my guests. The service was better than my last visit to Per Se. The children's offering was sophisticated in perpetration but accessible to younger palettes. My children can handle tasting menus just fine but having a children's meal available was such a nice touch. The manager noticed one of the dishes wasn't finished and inquired. Our guest was older and having a bit of trouble chewing. They were graciously offered a cheese plate which they loved. I wasn't wowed by a fish dish we had and there was a bit too much popcorn and coco on the foie gras but it was tasty all the same. The visit left a lasting positive impression and we still speak about it often which I can't say the same about other higher rated establishments we've been to. Nothing makes memories more than the treatment you receive and Galvin La Chapelle really delivered on our visit. Wonderful experience and if you're in the area I highly recommend a visit. It wasn't perfection but it was a perfect afternoon for our family. I can't wait to return next Summer.

While the service was attentive, multiple waiters made rude comments that rubbed us the wrong way. We didn’t order a lot because we had an unexpected event to attend after where we would be eating as well. When we ate our appetizers and enjoyed them, a waiter commented on how quickly we ate and stated we must be hungry. When we left behind some food in our main course which was already light (it honestly wasn’t the best tasting), a different waiter commented on how we didn’t order enough, which didn’t even make sense since we didn’t finish the dishes. I find it in extremely bad taste for anyone to comment on someone’s eating habits, especially in a judgmental way as they did. Overall, we would definitely not come back and did not enjoy our time.

Food seemed to be precooked from the previous day like every single high end restaurant in London, when it came to my table it was tasteless so I had to wash it with some water as it felt awful. Service was terrible as well with waiters ignoring our table when we were calling for them constantly. Then we heard a manager abusing one of the members of staff in the back area that could be LOUDLY heard across the hall. We went on the middle of the week and the place was not busy at all. Definetly not worth the price of the experience to have such an embarrasing display. At least we liked the hanging chandelier, very classy.

MORE AT Google

The venue is stunning, but for a restaurant with such an amazing reputation - perhaps my expectations were set too high. Galvin is lovely, it’s the sort of place you take your parents from outside of London for a special occasion. But if you are looking for an experience that makes you feel special and the food makes you stop mid sentence- this isn’t it. The service generally was good - a few different specialists attend across the sitting. However as a pregnant lady I struggled. Vegetarian does not automatically mean suitable for pregnant women and most dishes on the menu had some element of raw or unpasteurised ingredient. Having been to restaurants that cater really well for pregnant women- the Scarlet Hotel restaurant in Cornwall is seriously unparalleled in my experience to date- I found knowledge and in turn accommodation a bit limited at Galvin. When brought a vegetarian amuse bouche, no one said it was going to be covered in fresh truffle - which I would normally love, but being pregnant it’s something you could steer clear of. When I flagged I was pregnant and couldn’t have raw truffle, the gentleman told me he had never heard of pregnant women not being able to have truffle. Which is fine, but it felt like I was being told ‘it’s fine’… opposed to this being a new bit of information for the kitchen to consider. I was offered some more bread, which I was happy to have- but as some have already reviewed the bread portion is tiny to start with. Prior to this - I had asked what ‘Kohlrabi’ was, to be told ‘it’s a vegetable…if you want I can check on my phone’ which I found odd.. He did come back later with more description, that it is a root vegetable and a bit like garlic. I can check on my phone too.. but I guess for this standard of restaurant I would have expected staff to know. After this I was asked several times if there was anything they could do to accommodate, but if I am honest I had little faith they understood what would be suitable for me so just stuck with a cod main to avoid anymore awkward exchanges. It’s the little things really- I ordered a mocktail at the start of my meal, it was taken away and I was never asked again if I wanted anything else to drink. The food was probably the biggest let down, I had the Cod and the Panettone. Both were cooked well, but the flavours were nondescript. I could get over the service if the food was mind blowing, but I can honestly say restaurants without Michelin stars present more flavoursome or notable dishes.

Third visit today in a few years - first experience was exceptional, second was great, third was okay. Overall it's an enjoyable meal in a beautiful building with good service, but it's not good enough for the options at this price point in London and unfortunately I won't be returning. I've detailed the reasons below. Individually these could be ignored. But a lukewarm welcome, not explaining the process, offering a limited and verbal vegetarian menu, spilling a drink, overcharging on a bill, all for £180 for two people? In my opinion, it's just not worth it when there are so many options in London. - The entrance and exit experience feels flat, like checking in at a basic hotel. - No one was in control, nor explained what to expect. The first waiter presented a wine menu, which I explained we wouldn't need as we were having the set menu which came with wine. He seemed frustrated, and said my choice was Sauvignon blanc or garnacha. But he didn't take my wine order, this was taken later with the food menu. If I'd ordered wine and then been given the set menu, I'd be disappointed to see wine was an option. - Although the second waiter acknowledged that we were vegetarian, as we had let them know before arriving, a vegetarian menu was not provided and instead he verbally explained the vegetarian options to us, which made the menu largely redundant as all mains were meat or fish. Why not print off a few vegetarian menus? - A different waiter served us bread, and a fourth waiter took away our plates. A few times they asked the table next to us the same thing - do you want to order water when there was water on the table, asking if everything is okay when someone else asked a few minutes ago. Why are four different people serving a table of two? - I struggled to understand what some of the waiting staff were saying at times. Partly this is the acoustics of the room, partly the accents, but also partly that it feels like the staff are repeating the same process day in day out, like it's a script. I also find that there is an aloofness with some of the older waiting staff. - This is a pedantic point to raise, but when the waiter first poured our water, he spilled some on the glass and the table. It was rushed, even though it's a few seconds to do properly. - The vegetarian options were both limited in number and focus. They were effectively the meat options, without the meat. This meant one of the starters was some lentils and soup, barely five spoonfulls. The protein however wasn't replaced, which meant we left hungry. We had the exact same experience previously with the tasting menu. - Finally, we were overcharged on the bill for two bottles of water, when we only ordered the one, which I had to highlight to the waiter. As I say, all small issues. But not at this price point in a Michelin starred restaurant.

Unfortunately I would say that they do not deserve a Michelin rating. The ambiance is nice but very noisy. Cannot be considered as fine dining. Service isn’t good, took a while for them to give us a menu after we were seated. And not to mention the really long wait for our main course to be served. Before that even the complementary bread was mediocre and stingy. Only 2 half slices of seeded sourdough. Though they are willing to top it up, they could have presented a proper bread basket. I spotted the Autumn menu was back and visited again with a friend. Each course was very good showing off the flavoursome mushrooms with some good textures too and the high-quality sauce making you'd expect. I don't normally get excited about fish courses but the grey mullet was surprisingly good. The venison was good and celeriac was a great companion. If the last course is a dessert then the audience will be very divided on that. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't consider it a dessert. Some excellent petit fours appeared while we discussed the dessert question accompanied by a pleasant dessert wine. At 60 pounds including a glass of (decent) cremant it's very good value. I did the matched wines for 94 in total, recommended. I particularly liked the pinot gris, never thought I'd say that. For a dinner I consider the dishes to be slightly too small even with the bread. My friend noticed a few occasional mild wafts of drain smells, this must have been subtle as they didn't reach the other side of the table. There was occasionally a bit of imprecision in the descriptions of the dishes/wines as they were delivered. I'd say it would be 5/5 without those factors.

First visit. Won’t be back. The building is beautiful but not really over joyed with the service or the food. There was no description of our dishes when they were served. Had to ask for a wine list as not offered. We bought in a bottle of Dom Perignon as a birthday gift for a friend and were told by two waiters that it would have been better if we’d bought a different vintage. Quite arrogant and rude. The duck was tough and the mushroom starter was tiny. Service was aloof. Shame really as it had so much promise. Perhaps the Michelin star makes the staff think they’re better than the customers.

Outstanding surrounds, food, service, and wine and cocktail lists. Would return/recommend in a New York heartbeat. Not cheap but reasonable when considering the Michelin star Galvin rightly possesses.

I went to this restaurant for lunch today with a friend. Although I have been there before it still is a great place to go. Wonderful and extremely attentive staff, the food was simply delicious and with beautiful presentation. The atmosphere is formal, yet very relaxing. The venue is stunning, and what appears to be an old restored Chappel. All together we both enjoyed everything very much indeed. Thank you!

Excellent place to celebrate my partner's birthday. Fabricio, Valeriano (i hope i have recorded the staff names correctly, apologies, if not) and the rest of the team made our experience fantastic from the moment we entered the beautiful, historic building. We felt truly special and taken care of. Food was without doubt delicious, presented beautifully, served graciously explaining all the detail around it. The sommelier suggested a beautiful sparkling wine, excellent to my liking, we did not regret the choice. My partner was positively surprised when the desert with a candle arrived, such a sweet touch and subtle presentation. Everyone made sure that we have the best time, I would not hesitate to going back again and recommending this restaurant. We particularly enjoyed the smooth cooperation between everyone on the floor, everything was orchestrated so well, and we could also see the chefs in the kitchen via the small window, which was quite nice. To all the staff on Sunday: Thank you a million for making our little celebration so beautiful and enjoyable! You truly are a special place and fantastic people.

I visited this restaurant some time ago, and while I’m certain the menu has evolved since then, perhaps this review will still be useful to someone. The location is undoubtedly one of its most unique qualities—set in a repurposed chapel, the ambiance is distinct, blending historic charm with modern dining. The menu was versatile, and as a vegetarian, I had no trouble finding suitable options. While none of the dishes left a lasting impression in terms of standout flavors, the food was certainly pleasant—well-prepared, with clean presentations. It didn’t push boundaries but offered an honest, satisfying meal. What truly elevated the experience was the service. The staff were attentive and professional, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. We invited guests who thoroughly enjoyed the occasion, largely thanks to the seamless and polished service. Overall, while the food may not have been groundbreaking, the combination of setting, service, and solid execution made for a pleasant dining experience.

We came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and our anniversary, and it was a wonderful experience. A big thank you to Franco and his team for the warm and exceptional service that made our day more special, especially to Tomas who was attentive to our dietary requirements and helped us take a few photos (We love the photos. Thank you!) We had a three course meal with a couple of glasses of wine. The food was beautifully presented and well seasoned. We particularly love the bream carpaccio and the white chocolate mousse - both were absolutely delicious! The complimentary bread with anchovy butter was also remarkable. Would definitely recommend dining at this gorgeous venue, especially if you are looking for a place to celebrate special occasions.

We had a very good time in this restaurant! We tried different plates but our favourite was the chocolate mousse dessert; warm foamy chocolate coupled with ice cream and hazelnuts giving it the perfect texture. The place has a very nice interior and there is parking right outside of it. Would recommend it.

The food was great, but I wouldn’t recommend going outside of key times. The sommelier was excellent, but the rest of the staff seemed to be rushing us out as soon as we arrived. We ordered a cocktail and, later, wine, but the first course was served while we were still finishing our cocktails within a few minutes, despite them not being paired. This rushed pacing continued throughout the night, with courses being served without any description from the waiter, until the fourth course when we stopped and asked for more details. This isn’t the usual standard for a place of this price or reputation.

We went recently for the 5 courses menu. The decor is very nice, the food was enjoyable, though not exceptional. However, the service was quite disappointing, particularly for a Michelin 1* restaurant. The experience didn’t even match the standard of an average restaurant in London. We waited 10 minutes before receiving the menus, and no one took the time to explain them. Our wine order was a disaster: we requested it three times before it was taken and another three times before it was served, arriving only after our food. The dishes were barely described, with the staff cutting explanations short and disappearing mid-sentence. Given that it was a quiet Sunday evening, this level of service was unacceptable. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant, far better options in the area.

The lighting may just be a little too bright but that's a personal preference. The tables are close to each other so conversations are open to all ears. Food and service was good with room for improvement being a Michelin 1 star. Nice experience and would recommend to try at least once.

Stellar meal! Really amazing flavours, textures, beautifully presented. Their own brand house champagne was also excellent. Kudos to the manager, who sorted out issues I'd had navigating the website (on the same premises, if I now understand correctly, are two different restaurants. We ended up in the Michelin star one - so pay close attention when booking). In any event, all the staff was extremely professional and accommodating (and charming). Wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning. Thanks again

We were attended to by a lovely gentleman named Rocco (I believe he is Italian and even taught us how to say "welcome" in Italian—how kind!). He went above and beyond to give us the experience we needed and wanted. I had booked a dinner for myself and my friend as a catch-up a month ago, but for some reason, the website didn't book the Taste of Summer menu for us. Rocco informed us of this, but then kindly requested the chef to prepare it for us anyway. That was truly the kindest thing he could have done for us. I am highly impressed with his willingness to accommodate us on such short notice.

Dining at La Chapelle is less a meal, more a set piece event, where you’re the audience. From the moment you set foot in the Grade II-listed former chapel, until the time comes to begrudgingly step back out into the streets of Spitalfields, the wider world pauses whilst you take in the culinary spectacle. We sat down for my fiancé’s birthday. One of the few Michelin-starred restaurants to cater for, meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans, we sought out the menu gourmand and its vegetarian sibling. The menus were preceded by a canapé - a small, light bite of gustatory wonder - and the sommelier helping us select our aperitif. We failed to receive a single plate that did not burst with precisely framed colour. The plating was impeccable, the different shapes and colours danced round in the bowl: girolle and deep violet flower atop seared tuna ceviche combined woodland and sea; charred escarole obscured by a foamy sangria viniagrette alluded to a hidden forest of flavours. Every dish combined complementing textures and tastes. It was gustatory entertainment, rather than simply one of three daily meals. Each dish was brought out (almost) like clockwork, and one can only marvel at the show. So many moving parts - the sommelier floating from table to table with a chummy comment and an insightful wine suggestion; the runners ferrying cutlery to the place of each patron whose mouth waters at the coming of the next act; the waiters cruising from the service hatch to the destination, presenting the dish with a flourish of pouring; the head waiter gliding round effortlessly, checking in with each guest to make sure that their evening is made up, his reassuringly unflustered demeanour hinting at his decades of expertise in such demanding environments. We were not left wanting for anything (including bread, of which the offer of another delicious plate was eventually and politely refused). The staff make this place - they have the perfect balance of warmth, friendliness, professionalism, attentiveness, and the knack of seeming conscious that, ultimately, you’re here to enjoy a special evening with your close friend. I have never been to quite so impressive and accommodating restaurant, nor had such competent and artful professionals serve me plates of such mind-blowing pleasure. Sure, the lo-fi house music that is two-a-penny in high-end London establishments felt incongruous, and something softer and more analogue might have better-suited the vibe, although equally it might have not. Ultimately, through La Chapelle, we have been introduced to a novel and magical way of experiencing food. La Chapelle will live long in my memory, and the warmth we felt when the head waiter, Franco, wished my fiancé a good birthday and thanked us for celebrating it with them, I felt like it won’t be the only memory of this place that we will create.

Lovely restaurant, the service wasn't quite the level you would expect for food of the level being served. E.g. the sauces poured at the table were thrown on rather than being poured delicately. The tasting menu was delicious but it felt like the staff serving the food were new to high level service.

No volveré a ir allí.

We come here every so often for dinner and always have a wonderful experience. Service is attentive (but not overly so) and the food is always memorable. Some items are a little too pricey for what they are (for example, the lager we ordered) but overall it’s very good value for money. Highly recommended

Avoid like the plague. Just reopened with a massively reduce range, retaining the lowest quality wines at hugely inflated prices. Nicolas used to be the go to retailer for mid range good quality French wine but is now a former shadow of itself. The owners should be ashamed of themselves, I’m disgusted and will never visit again.
