Gate of India in Barnsley

Came here for a birthday meal the other week and we will definitely be returning. The customer service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The 5-course meal offer on a Thursday is fantastic and a great way to sample lots of different dishes.

We came here for our works do, it was quiet and the staff were welcoming and friendly. They checked that we had booked our cars in for the car park when we arrived. I have coeliac disease and they understood what I was asking as well as another member of the party having a milk and egg allergy. The food was yummy and would return. My husband ordered take out on the same night and his order wasn’t very warm and took a while to arrive. There was only us in the restaurant at the time.

It's good when you have good eateries within walking distance but now, having acquired a dog, it's a case of a short walk to collect our take-away order. This time it was Tikka Butter Chicken and trying something new, Shaslick Chicken Balti - both with Mushroom Rice. As always - both very enjoyable. dishes and the Mushroom Rice is lovely.

Gate Of India has always been a favourite of ours and last night was no exception! It was our first date 19 years ago and we chose to go to Gate Of India for it and it was perfect then and is still perfect now. From the minute you arrive, you are greeted with front of house staff, always has a smile and is so very polite, he will show you to your table and seat you with the drinks and food menu. There's loads to choose from including wines, spirits, beer and larger also tea and coffee for if your driving. Your drinks order will be taken from one of the team and returned to you and about 5 minutes later he returned with his smile and manners to take your food order. I urge you to treat yourself and visit the Gate Of India for an evening out. The building is very well looked after, inside is the typical British Indian style decor and it's perfect, the staff are so happy to see and cater for you. It's not a rushed environment and is very easy going. Would I recommend the Gate Of India.. YES! 100% get yourself dressed up order a taxi and go have a fantastic meal and a drink of course, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the price!

Placed the order at 6:50 for a delivery for scheduled delivery at 8pm.. the order arrived 30 minutes late and was cold

Recently started getting food from Gate of India. So far I've been very impressed, good quality, very tasty mains and the pilau is definitely a step above almost every other one I've had. Friendly staff, not eaten in yet but we plan to do so soon. Absolutely the best Indian we've found in Barnsley' so far.

Waited an hour and a half for an order that got marked as delivered but I never received :(

It was my Son,s birthday and he fancied a curry, so he booked for Him and his mum me, and his father. We are completely happy with everything the meal was very delicious and very well presented and good portions . The staff very attentive. I am not a curry expert, but if My sons Father and my son likes the food it's really good, because they know their curries . I for one had the Chicken Tika Masala and it was the perfect combination of flavours that really complement a Chicken tika when it's right . Top marks from. ME and as its close to home very convenientfor me to go back and have another plate. I highly recommend this restaurant. 👌

As both of us wanted to watch something on TV, it had to be the take-away version but as only a few minutes walk away, taking an insulated carry bag was no great hardship. The meat samosas were fine - complemented by the sauce and the salad garnish. The Tikka Butter Chicken was deemed to be the best ever from 'The Gate' - in fact the best ever eaten. There seems to have been a subtle change to the recipe - making it ideal to our taste. Moving away from usual choices, the Shaslick Chicken (Balti version) was an experiment for us but a good one. All very enjoyable!

Lovely curries has always but I ordered a madras and asked you to tame down the heat of it has I enjoy the taste of the madras but not necessarily how hot you make them, and you’ve made me a karai instead. I’ve had plenty of curries in my time and know which is which and although it was nice, it wasn’t a madras like I asked for…

Missed off the poppadoms, but was sorted straight away. Food was great. Will definitely use again

I did order food through delivero. After 1 and half hour later without any reason they cancelled it. I placed order 7:00 p.m. 3rd July. It's really disappointing 😕. My son was starving and so I. If they can't proceed it, they can reject my order instead of receiving. Around 8:30 they cancelled it. My little boy is only 4 years old.he was waiting for food.my question is if they can't do it they can let me within 10 minutes so that I can arrange something else..

Need to put more chicken in curry's then we wudnt bi paying extra for more chicken

I placed this order originally about 6pm, get getting changes in the delivery and finally got it at 8.15 pm. I phoned the restaurant and said they were ready but awaiting a driver....not good enough. I've ordered several times at Gate of India and given 5 stars. However on this occasion I was disappointed, the bhuna was very salty and the chicken in both dishes was chewy as if it had been rewarmed

It was actually 1 hour and 45 minutes late. i am absolutely appalled with how long it took to supply a driver when the restaurant was a 3 minute drive from my house. I will not be ordering with just eat again.

Ordered takeaway as eaten in restaurant a few times ...... food not as nice, greasy, lots of sauce with hardly any chicken no taste and overcharged when checked receipt when got home

Poor delivery dumped on the door step then rung to say it was delivered the food was poor chips old re heated same as the nan the omelette that wrapped the keema was dripping in oil never again

We just love the food from here.I had the Kadi Gosht with lamb and my wife had Korma with lamb.The meat melts in your mouth.We had nan breads which were good and onion Bahajis which were a bit to well done tonight but were still very tasty.Well done Gate of India.We will be back.

Half portions very watery and couldn't distinguish between both dishes. Never again. Disappointing to say the least.

Arrived not booked a table but they were not busy and we were quickly shown to a table. There are plenty of signs to remind you to record your reg number. The food was again as this was our second visit excellent - we had the Thursday menu which offered sufficient choice. The food was fresh, we were not rushed and the staff were attentive whilst not being intrusive.

Rubbish,Food is Reheated and not freshly cooked to order, dry meat better off heating supermarket Indian food which by the way tastes waaaay better and for a fraction of the price.

We ordered a takeaway from just eat The food was cold when it arrived . I called the restaurant who told me to complain to just eat . I complained but just eat have refused to refund my money .

Absolutely terrible service ordered over £45 worth of food for it to never turn up. Marked as delivered on just eat but never received the delivery. Phoned the restaurant for them to tell us they can’t help or do anything at all to help us because it’s a ‘just eat’ driver. Disgusting behavior should be ashamed of yourselves!!!

My delivery was missing one of the main meals. I contacted the restaurant abd.they said they definitely put it in. Therefore it had gone missing en route to me!! Just Eat have refunded a refund for the missing item. I will be escalating this as it is theft

The tracker said my food is 3 minutes away, all of a sudden the driver must have had another job but the tracker then said ,my order was 12 minutes away......not good. My food arrived about 20 mins late. I live so close to gate of India....I do not blame them.....driver's need sorting.

Hot tasty food delivered promptly

Chicken korma had pink chicken Tandoori was just under ten pounds for 7 small cubes or a third of a silver tray. Naan nice Korma plenty of sauce Order delivered on time with friendly driver. For the price, the portions are small. Pink chicken and small tandoori portion made this a score of 2 for meal quality. Probably the worst curry I've had in the last 40 years.

I ordered butter chicken and chicken korma came instead. However I am unable to eat korma as I’m allergic so this was bad and I was left hungry

Curries were very nice, but a very small portion, more like leftovers than a meal. At £15 per person for 2 curries, boiled rice and 1 (small) garlic naan, I feel short changed. Where's the rest?

All good I really enjoyed that, so I can highly recommend this Indian to whoever likes really good food thanks.

The food was really nice, the service was excellent, we were early and the first in the restaurant so no ambient atmosphere from other visitors but the played piped music which was OK.

Tetholi and garlic Nan were beautiful but the chips were dreadful and not worth £4 🙂

Worst biriani I’ve ever tried. Kurai just tasted like the vegetable curry sauce that came with the biriani. Chicken in it was plain. So expensive for such a poor quality meal! Won’t be back.

Wouldn’t recommend the chips but the Lamb Biryani and Bombay Aloo was perfect as usual.

I love this place and personally it is the best Indian in the town for me. Only fault I had was I asked for extra chillies in a dish and the chillies that came in it was (dry chillies) which made it tough and just couldn’t eat
