George Inn in Wiltshire

Truely awful!! From the high chairs being stored outside in the rain the experience just got worse. The prawns in the prawn cocktail had drowned in the sauce with a slice of ‘mothers pride’ white bread covered in margarine. The battered fish was all batter and virtually no fish. We complained and didn’t pay for the starter or the fish but it was an extremely disappointing experience. Will never return!!

Prior to Covid, The George was the nicest pub in Lacock but following a change in management it seriously went downhill so we stopped going there. However, we called in three times last week, once to eat and twice for drinks, and it was significantly better. We shared the Camembert with Pigs In Blanket, which were fine ( £21.90 ), whilst the Evolution Session IPA was £6.55 a pint, the Moretti was £6.60 and large Pinot Grigio was £7.30 ( which is very good value )

Attempted twice on a day out !! Went for in for on the spot lunch to be told sorry only serving pizzas due to Xmas dinners being served . One girl very rude waitressing as we had a little look at pub before leaving . Literally rolled her eyes as we were by the door way Said sorry!! And she didn't even speak or smile. So left and went to red lion . Which was amazing atmosphere and friendly. Good meal Thought let's go for just a drink in the george one more try Only to be left at bar for 15 mins. I'm not exaggerating, to not be served or even, oh be with you in a minute ..I was the only person stood at bar and was seen !! We left . Will never give the place a chance again. I know it gets busy but a really bad experience that day sadly

Burned hard toast, rubbery eggs and bacon. Beans were the only thing that was ok. Do not recommend.

Great atmosphere, cost areas, good food and service

No concerns with The George Inn, popular well priced eatery, going back for Christmas Day Lunch. This is in Lacock and reflects the area well. Thank you for another great meal

Established in 1561 this pub is a must visit in Lacock village. We had their traditional fish and chips and a pint of Lager. The food and the vibe was just amazing!

Lovely home cooked sausage and mash with onion gravy, just right for a cold day, others had fish and chips two had potato and leek soupall meals were lovely.

We had a very good meal at a reasonable price. Service was good and the pub is a very attractive old building. Real ale is available.

We usually only visit this ( quite local to us ) pub for drinks but wanted a pub lunch today . My favourite pub lunch ever is a cheese and pickle sandwich with chips with a pint of cider which is becoming harder to find with pubs modernising their menus (too much !) The George is traditional and I love it for it ! My sandwich was perfection ! Soft white bread (other options available) good cheese , onion chutney , a decent salad garnish (no raw onion which I dislike) and a huge portion of chips … all for less than £8 !!! The cider was stowford press (delicious !) My husband had the crayfish sandwich and a pint of Wadworth 2023 served in a special edition glass (where can we buy one ?!) First class Saturday lunch … recommend and will be returning ! To note … this is a busy very popular pub which also caters coach parties so book a table if you want to eat and be prepared that the kitchen might be busy ! (Don’t let this put you off !)

The town of Lacock is an interesting, historical city located outside of London. Walking around town you get a feel that your in movie set. We stopped in town as part of a tour and so glad we got to visit one of the oldest Pubs in Lacock. We also visied Harry movoe sites. The food was very good and the staff was very friendly and attentive even trying to feed over 60+ people in our tour.

Good old historical pub with good choice of ciders. however very expensive for roast did receive meat and veg was very nice but roast potatoes where underdone also had to wait awhile for to be served for the bill

Had a great lunch with family here after visiting Stonehenge... Fish and Chips were awesome. IPA was good... but all IPAs in Europe need a bit of work catch-up with the PNW.

Stopped here for a tour and had some excellent fish and chips. It was so crispy, and heavily breaded. Such a cool little town with a lot of history.

A great British pub and restaurant with lots of character and room for seating with ample parking at the rear. In the Heart of this National Trust village. Popular with locals and international visitors with a warm welcome from all of the staff.

We had a lovely welcome. The staff treated us like honoured guests and I had a chat with the gentleman I presume was the Manager about the book I was reading which made my wife and myself feel very relaxed. The food was very enjoyable large portions well cooked and piping hot. The Chicken and Ham pie was excellent as was the carved ham and eggs my wife had. Do pay a visit you wont be disappointed

Beautiful, historic pub with large garden, and car park. Sunday roast is utterly delicious and there is so much other choice too. A variety of food to suit any taste or occasion.

My wife and I were on a Premium Tours visit to Lacock this past week and part of the tour was lunch at The George Inn. My wife ordered the Fish & Chips and I ordered the Lasagna. My Lasagna was good, not great and my wife's Fish was pretty good. But when I had one of her Chips I found a long hair fried to the Chip. Please ask your Chip's cook to wear a hair net. I ordered an Ale beer and I have to say it was the worst watered down Ale I have ever tasted! I can't believe you can serve that extreme diet beer. I saw your beer list but we were only offered this and a Lager beer for the lunch. A person sitting next to me also had the Ale and he felt the same as I.

We had a cheese and red onion sandwich.£8.95 comes with a small side salad and a few chips. There is a choice of bread but we sadly chose white bread. It was awful, the thinest cheapest sliced bread, a scattering of cheese and an overriding amount of Branston pickle. Otherwise a nice pub

Menu not nearly as good as previous visit. Just standard pub grub now. No fresh fish. Great atmosphere, as always, and good and friendly service. Lousy Capuccino! Just lukewarm milky coffee with a little choc sprinkled over it.

Bog standard pub grab nothing special. Minimal menu on offer (sold out of pies less than a hour into service ) asked for pint of stowford cider and was given IPA. Lovely crispy fish and chips

A very old inn filled with historical atmosphere. All four of had pizza, it was fantastic, bearing in mind I don't like pizza but this something different.

Visited twice whilst on holiday, really lovely friendly staff, very attentive. Pizza was really tasty, we were introduced to the local dish called 'frickles' they were delicious and the butter chicken from the specials board was so good!!

Quaint on the inside and lots of tables on the outside terrace and beer garden, that has a child climbing frame to enjoy the summer with children. Our group of 5 (mum, dad, 17 yo, 2yo and 3mo) had 3 pints of coke that came to around £10 and enjoyed them in the garden on a lovely day. We didn't have food but will return soon, as the food we saw look amazing! Definitely recommend if in the area for drinks and atmosphere. Thankyou to the staff at The George Inn , Lacock!

Quaint and dog-friendly pub where you are greeted and served very politely. We felt very comfortable and had a great first pub experience in England.

Sunday roasting: Beef was a little overdone but tasty, pots were soggy, yorkies were top draw. Service was great, but there's something missing here, I think if in another location, this place wouldn't get the kind reviews that it enjoys.

The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is over priced for what it is. Had the fish and chips, pretty mediocre to be honest. None of the food in our party stood out as great food to be honest, but all ok.

We met up with friends in Lacock for lunch at the George Inn. The ambience in this lovely old pub is beautiful. The staff were helpful and accommodating. Then when the food arrived it took a nose dive. Not much selection for vegetarians at all, sad in this day and age! The Stilton and brocoli quiche was decent but accompanied by microwaved new potatoes which were left uneaten the accompanying salad was limp and pretty disgusting. I had fish and chips. Nowhere near enough chips the fish eatable but the mushy peas were I'm convinced watered down. In a place where a lot of foreign visitors come, it's not a good impression of the food in our country. Buck up The Grorge Inn please!

The beautiful town of Lacock is an interesting, historical city located outside of London. Stopped here with a tour and so glad I got this opportunity to visit one of the oldest Pubs in Lacock and also sites for Harry Potter lovers. The food was descent, not up to temperature, however the staff was very friendly and attentive even trying to feed over 20 people in our tour.

While in the area for a family wedding tomorrow popped in with my elderly mum and sister tonight for dinner and the service was second to none. Fantastic food and delightfully friendly staff. If it wasn't for the fact I live 5 hours away would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you for your hospitality

From the moment we walked a very welcoming landlord - as somebody who loves pubs (CAMRA member) it is great to see how easy it is to do. If only all landlords were as good we wouldn’t loose so many of our wonderful pubs. Other staff great as was both food and drink on both our two visits This pub is very, very highly recommended. Please visit it.

This pub is very highly recommended. Two visits during stopovers at campsite on way to and from Cornwall. Very welcoming landlord and staff, very good beer (suits me as I'm a CAMRA member!) and very good food. Locals will know how good it is, but for all you visitors to this part of Wiltshire, do visit. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

The food is great but not as great as the staff working there ♥️ They were AMAZING. Also, massive thank you to the girls behind the bar, who upon seeing a date going sour, they intervened and made my little sister feel safe. They went to the lengths of driving her to a different bus stop so that she could avoid the creepy man. For all we know, they prevented the night from ending horribly. We will definitely be coming back and we will recommend this place to anyone who listens. Thank you again ♥️

Visited for lunch today with my daughter during a visit for the scarecrow trail. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. As vegetarians we both had the nut roast. I am very sorry to say that the food was no way near the standard that we have experienced on previous visits. We were given a small square of nut roast which had very little taste, half a very overcooked carrot, some very under cooked strips of cabbage and three half pieces of potato. The potatoes were described as roasted but were actually just warmed through and soft with none of the crispness you expect from a roast potato. The bill for this was £31. Poor quality and very over priced food .

I can not recommend this place enough, the food was great, the place is beautiful but the best thing about is is the staff. O have never met anyone as sweet and caring in the UK as the people who work there. They made sure I was attended to and taken care off at all times. I specifically wanted to thank Sophie, Harriet and Tony for going out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and safe in every way. You guys are amazing and I will never be thankful enough. I really recommend this place for anyone, couples, families, travelers but specifically If you are a woman travelling alone, nobody will take better care of you than the girls at The George Inn. Five stars is not enough, thank you.

Visited Sunday evening for roast dinners- beef and vegetarian. Both excellent and great selection of seasonal vegetables with fabulous Yorkshire puds! Very helpful staff, great beer- recommend 6X - and best vegan cheesecake ever - coconut and biscoff with mango sorbet. Great outdoor area- lovely pub in a lovely village.

Wow! What a find The George Inn, West Street, Lacock was! Booked on line for Sunday Roast as visiting Lacock with hubby & daughter, & couldn't have been more pleased! (though the scaffolding outside initially made us think it was closed for refurb & we'd somehow made a mistake!). Had a lovely Welcome from the charming & so-happy Manager (sorry didn't get his name!); perfect table in cosy snug area of this quirky atmospheric Inn; the friendliest, most polite waitresses; & the Sunday Roast was out of this world; we had Roast Chicken, Pork & Beef with sides of pigs in blankets & all were generous portions & delicious - as shown by 3 clean plates! Sadly no room for desserts! Compliments to the Chef! Wish we lived nearer so we could enjoy The George more often but will definitely be back! Thank you to all the staff of this lovely Inn & keep up just what you're doing because it's perfect!

This place is worth a visit. The rustic atmosphere is worth seeing and makes you feel good. The service friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the food couldn't keep up. My ham and fried egg was boring. The burger without sophistication. A pity. There is potential for improvement here. Nevertheless we would come back. The ambience and service make you feel welcome. And there are actually Jägermeisters here!

Fantastic welcome by really friendly helpful staff. Had a great lunch on Saturday and returned Sunday for a roast. Saturdays lunch was fabulous. The roast on Sunday was beautiful however the plates were cold which meant the food wasn’t as hot as it could’ve been. Wasn’t worth complaining about as the food was lovely but some constructive criticism.

Somewhat disappointed, we booked (Wednesday) and on arrival was told that there were no jacket potatoes because of a supply issue which happens. We sat down and ordered 5 meals all together. The meals were alright well presented, the fish was a little bit too much seasoned with salt for some. We decided to have desserts and tea and coffee. Unfortunately once we had ordered we were told that they had run out of it. The overall appearance of the pub is good old fashioned and well kept in the style of the village, toilets are outside to get to them but clean. Overall I would probably go to the sister pub the Red Lion also in the village, it was a bit disappointing with all the food not available and slightly pricey compared to other pubs in the area.

Warm and welcoming atmosphere and great food.

It was Easter Sunday and we were a little surprised that we could get a table without a res.ervation given the other pubs and restaurats in the town were rammed and no tables for food. However, the food and service were disappointing. The staff were doing their best but we waited ages to be served soup of the day and my prawns were well and truly battered not tempura. We identified the soup as Sainsbury's tomato and basil. They ran out of sour dough and the waitress told us they were running out of a lot of ingredients because they had been so busy. IT WAS EASTER SUNDAY!!!! It is the first restaurant which I have eaten where the staff did not approach me after being given food to ask if all was well!I think my average score is generous and mainly based on the fact that we could get a decent table and the staff were certainly doing their best but the menu is not exciting and the food can only be described as edible.The place itself does have really interesting historical information. Needs an upgrade. Our window seat showed the foam stuffing and I returned my wine glass because it had more than one forensic lip specimen!

Picked this place for Mother's Day as we'd had a good experience here a couple of years ago on Father's Day, and it's dog-friendly with a play area at the back. There was a set menu and they requested a deposit, fair enough because no shows are a problem in the industry in general. The food was as good as we remembered, including them being able to adapt various dishes to be dairy-free for one of the family, and portions are generous. The puddings are especially good. We only had a slight issue at the end of the meal: I had to remind staff to take the deposit off the final bill and when I brought this up, the deposit had to be deducted manually. The system did not have the ability take off the deposit automatically and apparently did not even flag which tables which had paid the deposit. This is something that should be looked at when it comes to future events.

We came here for a drink when we missed our bus and the staff were so lovely and helpful. Very cute place and I’m sure the food is just as fabulous

My guests were impressed also of the special attention paid to the allergens and made sure all were aware of the ingredients etc. The food was lovely and my guests all made comment that they enjoyed it. My Stonehenge tour took us there after the tour for dinner, atmosphere was incredible i felt like i was in 14-15th century London. service staff was quick with the food and drinks, and very friendly conversation. its a small town otw to london from Bath so its a good spot to stop by and get some food to eat and location was in multiple scenes from Harry potter movies

Great pub! Relaxed atmosphere and friendly capable staff. We had an excellent lunch with family, toddler and dog. A varied and interesting menu meant that everyone enjoyed their meal. There's plenty of space to sit around and chat. Would recommend highly.

This historic pub set in Lacock, Wiltshire is a cosy lovely one managed by wonderful people! A must visit!

A true gem of a village pub. The service was spot on, quick and friendly. Even though the pub was busy, we were not made to feel rushed to leave. The menu consists of typical pub grub - but done REALLY well. My wife had the fish and chips (cooked well, beautifully flavoured battery but not greasy), I had a burger (cooked well, really tasty), my eldest had the steak frites which (which she inhaled) and my youngest had the kids fish and chips. The portions are not massive but on reflection we're easily big enough. The puddings were beautifully flavoured and reasonably priced. Four people, all with pudding, all with drinks came to £86 which can't be argued with at all. The venue was in really good condition considering its age and was absolutely immaculate. There is plenty of parking to the rear and the pub garden would be lovely in better weather. My only comment is that the toilets are almost separate from the pub - not ideal for those with mobility issues or with younger children that would normally be able to take themselves to the toilet themselves. It's not an issue for most, but something that some will have to consider.

Well don't know why to start of finish. But would not write home about this or recommend this place dinner was cold. We was stood for ages before chief came out and then found out poor chief started on the Wednesday before and knives was blunt so struggled to cut. Sorry to much to write.
