Goji Vegetarian Cafe and Restaurant in York

An excellent vegan and vegetarian cafe.The 4 of us are a mixture of vegan and non-vegans. The food is fantastic. We can recommend the Goji vegan brunch and we went back later for the vegan and vegetarian strawberry cream tea. The fruit scones were better than non-vegan ones - so light, fluffy and super tasty. Will definitely revisit.

Great option for vegan and plant based folk. The majority of items on the specials and, from what I saw, the regular menu were vegan. Cakes looked amazing and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Menu was varied and had some interesting festive specials (we visited in December).

I'm just gonna say this: I'm from a country where bourek is basically a national dish, and theirs puts it to shame. Side note: salad was so good I almost cried, and the staff is super friendly.

Vegan reviewer: We love going to Goji as it’s got a proper friendly independent vibe. Incredible portion sides, very good prices and very friendly staff. It’s a very casual (and friendly!) style of service, so if that’s not your thing you may want to try somewhere a bit more formal. Their vegan brunch is lovely (great sausages and amazing potatoes!). They have a really nice hot dog that comes with a small salad that has a wonderful dressing on. Their hummus is lovely but does require a bit of self-seasoning. The flat bread is delicious! Goji has a large variety of salads and desserts too. It is entirely vegetarian with a lot of vegan options, including different burgers and a cashew tart for example. I would love to see a greater variety of hot food there in the future. The perfect place for a relaxed brunch with some really good oat coffee Recently returned for the Xmas Quinoa burger which was delicious :)

Wonderful vegetarian cuisine, one of the best lunches I've ever had. Highly recommended.

We received the warmest of welcomes on a miserable rainy day. We were shown to a table next to the heater to dry out. The staff were all absolutely incredible so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was also incredible as well as the gorgeous chocolate & cherry cake. I can't recommend this place enough it's cosy and a real hidden gem in York. Will definitely return the next time I find myself in the area.

If you want to get out of the crush, I'd highly recommend here. The food looks good & tastes better. The ambience is soothing. The people were quietly excellent. Ask for the special, and you won't be disappointed.

Feel awful saying this but this cafe doesn’t have the nicest interior but the food is absolutely delicious and it’s definitely the best place for healthy food and salads in York! Loved it so much I came for lunch both days I was in the city.

Tentatively entered this tiny looking cafe, but blown away by the warm welcome. Lovely staff. Food was exquisite with a real taste of freshness. As newbies to vegetarianism, felt menu offered a lovely choice. Lovely atmosphere. Would go again.

Only place in the city where I found cake that I could eat despite my many food allergies! And it tasted amazing. Thank you!

My friend and I came to Goji as a birthday treat. Everything was perfect. I have food intolerances, but this was all taken into consideration without fuss. I'd certainly return to Goji.

A lovely little veggie cafe! It took us a while to decide our food choices because everything sounded amazing! In the end I opted for the Vietnamese banh-mi which was full of fresh flavours and the perfect portion size. My partner chose the special of the day which was a gorgeous sweet potato stew. If you're looking for wholesome hearty ingredients, this is your place. The staff were very attentive and helpful too! Highly recommend!

Really happy as a vegan to see such a great option in York. Honestly so good. Had the cashew cream quiche (comes with with two salads) and a side of sweet potato wedges which in honesty was probably unnecessary because it was only a lunch. The quiche and salad were both filling and unspeakably delicious. The pastry was great but the quiche filling itself was like... melt in the mouth but so well flavoured and hearty. I would have ordered and eaten it again immediately. The salad is also really well flavoured, seems like basically any vegetable they touch turns to gold. Good sharp fresh flavours. Honestly I could not recommend this more highly, will definitely be coming back. Didn't take photos because I wolfed it, unfortunately. But it was also nicely presented. They also gave a lot of dessert options but I only came for lunch. Will report back...

Great food with many vegan options and excellent service. Staff went above and beyond holding a cake order for us after hours to collect so that we could bring to friends we were visiting. Much appreciated!

Go here all the time. I don’t often like eating out as I never feel I get my moneys worth but here I always have. The flavour and freshness of everything here is amazing. Takeout menu and picnic boxes are great in summer and close to quiet “rear” minster gardens. Never thought to review this place as I’ve been going for years but needed to as it wasn’t five starts and it really should be!!!

First all-vegetarian restaurant I've been to! It was super good, and super relaxing not having to go through the entire menu to know what I can eat. I particularly loved the teas, which were divine! But everything was excellent

Amazing service by all staff members, they are all very attentive. Lovely meal and I overheard a group of customers say one member of their party was celiac and the staff member was very knowledgeable on allergens and what was suitable on the menu.

Visited for the first time yesterday, very impressed by the vegan / vegetarian menu! Really enjoyed the salad platter and the delicious cake ...it was really hard to choose, everything looked really fresh in the chiller, and very tempting! Staff very friendly.

Quick lunch for us before rushing back to an expiring parking ticket. Team was helpful and kind, also quick despite the number of people, in when we visited. Food was very good to outstanding depending on dish. The sweet potato salad was the standout, and the vegan GF cheesecake we had to close. Coffee also good, but not next level, well worth a visit when in York.

We ate two plant based glutenfree plate and a vegan glutenfree baked cheesecake. Amazing salads and cakes, nice coffee. Highly recommended for vegans with gluten intolerance.

We visited today (20.08.24). Just wonderful from the minute we stepped through the door to leaving. We were greeted like old friends and served beautifully by friendly staff who are happy to help. Food was delicious - really, really delicious. On another level delicious! Salads that are out of this world! Wholesome, unique and wonderfully presented. If you’re veggie/vegan (or have stupid allergies and specific dietary restrictions like me), you won’t be disappointed - I felt confident about being in safe hands. Even ordering sides to come as a main for my 12 year old didn’t phase and was accommodated with ease. Do visit if you can - it’s simply one of the best places I’ve eaten (and I have the fortune of eating in some very special places!).

Lovely small cafe found by my friends daughter during our trip to York. Very tasty homemade soup .Friendly staff .Took away a piece of cake which was excellent. Do go and visit .

Goji is a lovely little cafe and deli on Goodramgate in York, so very close to top tourist spots such as the Minster. It’s ages since I last visited and I only needed a coffee but I’m so pleased that I visited today. I haven’t star rated the food as I didn’t order any but it all looked amazing with lots of cake choices etc on the blackboard (see photos). The staff are warm and welcoming; nothing is too much trouble. I don’t usually like background music in cafes as it’s often too loud but in Goji it was just right and a very pleasant surprise to hear classical music for a change. Seating is on the ground floor with additional seating in a lovely little courtyard and also upstairs. The cafe has lots of original artwork on display. The toilets are up 2 steep flights of stairs so may not be accessible for anyone with limited mobility/knee problems. Recommended if you love good coffee and gear cakes!

We love Goji so much that we went two days in a row! This vegetarian restaurant is kid-friendly, with the loveliest staff you'll find in York! The food is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend it, whether you're veggie or not! You won't be disappointed!

Enjoyed the tastiest takeaway salad from Goji. For £6.50 my salad box was laden with the most amazing array of vegan salads. The staff were helpful and fun. Great find and a highlight of my day trip to York.

Upon arrival and being seated, we then waited for a good 25 minutes to be served. We were on the brink of walking out. The place was averagely busy, so no excuse really. The food finally arrived and was decidedly average. Many elements of the breakfast were cold. The mushrooms and fried potatoes were great, the bread was dry and we had to ask for spread. The pickled onions felt a bit misplaced on a breakfast, and the spinach should have been left alone. Instead it came in cream(?), which was odd and not that pleasant. The coffee was OK and it was nice to get a single cafetiere of it. All round, it was a poor experience. It felt like a tired place in need of a tidy up. It seemed like the owners/waiters are just going through the motions of running an average business. This place needs some tlc.

We visited Goji for a quick coffee. Very busy place and dated.Coffee was nice i had a cappuccino and a piece of pistachio and cardamon cake,,,for me cake was awful, probalby 1kg sugar in it,extremely sweet and without any flavour .We didn't try it any food there,but food was looking good.

We've been to Goji a couple of times when we've visited York. The food is always varied, interesting, tasty and so enjoyable. Staff are welcoming and attentive, and obviously enjoy what they do. Would highly recommend Goji for all, regardless of whether you're a veggie or vegan!

I completely forgot to take photos which is a shame because the food was so aesthetically appealing and tasty! Food came really quickly and the staff were really helpful, particularly Rosa. Only downside is, the food was a tad expensive.

I stopped by here to take away as I was pretty short of time! But the food looked so good it was hard to decide, I was a bit gutted I hadn't allowed time to get a salad because there selection of salads looked absolutely INCREDIBLE!! Anyways I took a piece of their vegan quiche which was made with cashew cream and the pastry on it was perfectly crumbly and crisp and the flavours were so GOOD!! And then I struggled to choose which cake I wanted but I went for the pistachio rose sponge. It had a gorgeous texture and the icing was super yummy and the right ratio of cake to icing too! Id highly recommend.

I visited with my mum for lunch on Sunday whilst shopping in town. Goji is her favourite York cafe so we usually visit when she comes to stay. The menu is amazing and full of lots of interesting vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free items and they’re really good at labelling what falls into each category. We both ordered the salad platter, one with a side of falafel and the other with the flatbread. The salads were delicious, however out of the 7 options I think were on the specials board, it ended up that there were a few that had run out (hence why I’ve dropped a star). The falafels were also a standout and much better than any supermarket version I’ve had previously. I’d definitely recommend this cafe even if you’re not vegetarian but you fancy a delicious healthy lunch.

We come every year on a day trip, staff are friendly and the food is clean and wholesome. Looking forward to our next trip to York

We visited this restaurant twice while in York. We eat a lot of vegan food and had some of the most imaginative and tasty meals here . We especially loved the vegan cheesecake

Great selection of food at this York institution. Friendly staff albeit a bit chaotic and chatty with themselves so full attention wasn’t on their work. This showed at times. Soup was not warm and it took a long time to be served after ordering.

We popped for hot tea and cake and a bit of rest between exploring and admiring beautiful Your architecture. Cake and tea was delicious, staff very welcoming and with great sense of humour. Thank you( dziekuje!) See you next time for lunch plus cake.

I have been here a couple of times and it is no on my 'go to' list of places. The food is amazing, full of flavour, freshly prepared and with many great choices available. The menu changes so there are always specials available. The selection of salads are amazing too... really hard to decide which to have or rather which to leave out! The service is wonderful. Very friendly staff who can give helpful recommendations and make you feel very welcome and unhurried. Great range of drinks too and I loved the flowering teas. Definitely worth a visit, even if its to grab a take out! Excellent value for money.

We went for a weekday lunch after several recommendations. The beetroot and onion tart was really rich and tasty, the salads all lush (carrot and butterbean in a garlic rosemary dressing was amazinggg). Coffee great, tried the cafeteria and soy cappuccino. The pistachio cake was delightful and the vegan scones a rare treat too. Can’t wait to visit York again so I can sample some more plant based deliciousness.

My wife and I were on a day trip to York and, as vegans, were looking for a nice place with good food for lunch. We found Goji and were instantly taken by it. The place is a warm, friendly environment and the staff were friendly and provided great service. The food we had was amazing. I had a superb bhaji burger with sweet potato chips and salad. My wife had great cashew tart with salad and roast cauliflower. The desserts were really good too, and the whole thing was very reasonably priced. We both enjoyed taking in the lovely ambiance and had first class service from the wonderful staff. I would recommend the Goji to anyone looking for a top quality vegan/vegetarian restaurant in York.

The best vegan cafe in York. What a relief to find a cafe with many, many, vegan choices. Quality food that tastes great (savoury & delicious cakes). Soup and pesto toast ( Soup combos £10.90) feterman ginger beer and cafeteria £20 . A very hearty meal on a cold day. Lots of flavour in the meal. Friendly staff,quick service. The décor not to my taste could be made to have a warmer feeling. Would I go back yes

My fourth visit here - I had their salad platter with halloumi. Lentil avocado rocket salad and spiced cauli salad were excellent. Portion of halloumi seemed a little small but I was full afterwards so perhaps that was wise?! Smoothie was tasty - an orangey mangoey one this time but I’ve also had a good green smoothie here. My sister had the cashew cream tart (also had caramelised onions in) which was absolutely delicious! Nice atmosphere, always busy so on this occasion we got the slightly draughty table.

One of my absolute favourite places to eat in York, whether it's for cake and coffee, lunch, or afternoon tea. Don't come here if you are rendered livid by having to queue for a table or wait for freshly prepared food to be made for you, but if you appreciate what these two things signify, you will be happy you went. My drug of choice for pudding is the sticky toffee pudding (with custard, for me, but you can have cream or ice cream if you must), and I am rendered hysterical (on the inside; gormless smile on the outside) if I arrive and see that it's on the menu. In fact I order it straightaway, before it sells out, as that would be the day ruined. Staff all great, and Imogen is wonderful :)

Had a piece of the vegan quiche and blueberry cheesecake to take away and both were delicious. I haven’t seen vegan quiche in many places so was lovely to have this option and it was honestly so good. You could hardly tell the cheesecake was vegan - so so yummy!!

We wanted to eat healthy in York and Goji was THE place. We loved it so much that we ate there for lunch every day of our trip. Our bodies loved us for it. When we visit york again we'll 100% visit again.

Popped in today for lunch with my partner. Extremely friendly welcome, had to wait 10 mins for a table (as it looks like a popular spot) - we were shown upstairs and had a fantastic menu of veggie/vegan options to pick from. Food was spot on and couldn’t fault the service! Will definitely return next time we’re in York.

Had to wait 15 minutes or so, to get a table. I would have waited longer if necessary, as soon as I tasted the food, I knew why it was so popular!! The staff were very friendly, and the building had an extremely homely atmosphere! The mushroom burger, and sweet potato wedges were delightful! I can only recommend this place👌💯

Love Goji and glad it is still doing well. Food is delicious, I had soup of the day, dill leek and potato, yummy. Wish I'd had room for the salad or quiche which are always excellent. Special dessert of spiced bakewell tart also yummy 😋 Thank you!

The place is very cozy and the staff is nice. Portions are great and I loved their rich and filling side salads. Prices are good too! Great choice both for lunch or snack/tea time (cakes looks and tastes amazing)

In York for the day Christmas shopping and not sure where to eat, we found this great little cafe in the heart of York serving a good selection of vegan and vegetarian food.Plenty of tables and a good atmosphere.Friendly knowledgeble staff. Both had the vegan all day breakfast. Would recommend if you are visiting York, also great selection of vegan cake's.

What a lovely little cafe. We both had the vegan cashew roast dinner and it was delicious. I also enjoy that it’s a veggie/vegan cafe but it’s not pretentious. Understated with nice food and drinks. The only downside would be complete lack of facilities for babies.

Today we had the most amazing vegan lunch. The beetroot & cashew tart was delicious as was their salads & cakes.

Delightful and cosy cafe with a varied, delicious and predominantly vegan menu. Their cakes, scones, savoury tarts and salads were all divine. I dined in with my family for lunch and enjoyed the food so much that I ordered takeaway for dinner. The beetroot tart was a particular highlight.

I wanted to love this place as I'd seen it had been well reviewed and I like to support veggie / vegan restaurants but it didn't quite hit the mark for me unfortunately! The whole experience was just a bit lackluster. The decor and atmosphere was a bit tired, it looks like it could do with a fresh lick of paint and a bit of TLC. Service was okay, a bit lackluster. We had a Middle Eastern platter for two and it wasn't bad at all, just nothing there which would entice me back.

I visited this cafe recently with my friend who was keen to try it. I have to say as a non vegetarian I was really impressed with the choice and quality of the food offered. I had the Middle Eastern platter which was delicious. The salads looked gorgeous and I was truly spoilt for choice.

I've been wanting to visit Goji for ages and when I finally did it did not disappoint. We started with the afternoon tea and ended up staying and having their vegan hotdog. Absolutely delicious food and cosy atmosphere. Service was relaxed and attentive and made for a great sunny Fri afternoon lunch. I now go frequently on my own for a relaxed lunch. Its such a chilled little place and the service is always great. You can go here and never feel rush as a lone diner which I can find at some other busy city cafés. Love it!

Interesting cafe although a little tired decor etc.

Very disappointed. Been going here years, but called in for cake to takeaway today and the portions were tiny -£9 for two thin slices. Always used to get their scones too but they were so small they looked like biscuits so we didn’t bother. Had the cake later at home and although it was very light it had no flavour. Mine was cherry and almond but tasted like a plain sponge. My husband couldn’t remember what his was and we couldn’t identify the taste! Sadly we won’t be returning 😢

What a gem, right in the heart of York, close to the Minster. The food is fantastic: freshly and properly cooked from scratch, all vegetarian and loads of vegan food. Lots of organic ingredients and nothing ultra processed. The coffee (from Pollards of Sheffield) is definitely the best in York. The vegan cashew nut quiche was to die for! And all at incredibly reasonable prices. Congratulations to the lovely and creative staff!

Lovely outdoor courtyard area. Wonderful lunches - I had the gluten free chickpea frittata which had leeks and courgette inside. It was delicious! Served with a beetroot sauce, salad, cashew cheese and asparagus. Lots of vegan options. Highly recommend!!

Always great. A wide choice of vegan and veggie food. Healthy or indulgent - there's something for everyone. Never been disappointed and I've been going for years.
