Golden City in Wandsworth

Been coming here for over 10 years and we recently placed an order and the WHOLE RECIPE HAS BEEN CHANGED. the bbq ribs were dry and no sauce at all, the crispy shredded beef were soggy and not one bit crispy. so much more has changed too. What a shame, this was the only good Chinese takeaway near me that was unique; now they taste like all the soggy Chinese takeaways in the area...

Travelled from Blackheath and decided on a nice meal at Golden City,as it is advertised only to find take away only.Wrongly advertised..At least another eatery got out custom.

I'm not sure if this place is under new management, but the quality of the food is absolutely top-notch. I recently ordered the beef in black bean sauce and spring rolls, and they were both amazing. The beef was tender, packed with flavour, and perfectly complemented by the rich, savoury MUSHROOM BEEF. The spring rolls were crispy and delicious – the best I’ve had in a while. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and a wonderful dining experience. Will see me again

black bean sauce noodles which were yummy! And free prawn crackers, nice prawn toast

Tasty food! Although the level of tastiness does depend on the chef, as I have had some not-so-pleasant meals.

This was quite possibly the worst take away I have ever had! Everything tasted of dirty oil! It was disgusting we all actually feel totally sick! Stay away from here it's awful!!!!!

Food was okay it’s not the best Chinese food around. You can find something better the beef in the black bean sauce was very chewy and weird.

Ordered and paid extra for thin noodles but got normal noodles, then was told by customer service because it doesn’t say thin noodles on the receipt I can’t get a refund for noodles I didn’t eat. Thanks guys

AVOID ! FOOD POISONING ! DANGEROUS!!!! I ordered sweet & sour chicken and duck with pancakes and cucumber last week. when it arrived it was cold and hard but i didn’t see much of an issue at the time so i ate it, despite the chicken being chewy and not tasting like chicken. fast forward an hour later - seeerious food poisoning!!!! i haven’t experienced food poisoning like that since i was a child. the way i have been unwell is so concerning i had to go to the doctor and get some blood tests done, my partner is a doctor and explained each result on the blood test. all showing i have an infection and inflammation from food poisoning which also lead to dehydration. i had to cancel work as i couldn’t leave the bathroom and the stomach pains were so bad i could barely move. unable to eat properly, drink properly, move, work, effective my day to day life because they’re so disgusting and lazy about cooking food and staying hygienic? this place must be shut down. it’s only going to get worse. i never, ever write reviews but after going to the effort of having blood work done and seeing on paper that your food has caused me damage in my body, people need to know about this. Avoid avoid avoid.

Food was not very good. Eaten from here before several times but tonight's offering was soggy and overcooked. Will go back to my new regular. Shame as I used to love the squid and chow mein from here but tonight put me off.

I had one or two jars after the rugby today and thought I’d have a nice Chinese to settle my stomach….what I received was disgraceful. This Chinese was HUBRIS MANIFEST! Firstly, one portion of the crispy shredded beef was unfortunately found not in tupperware but instead in the plastic bag the Chinese was delivered in. Second the crispy noodle we ordered was three tubs of pot noodle minus the seasonings; allow me to clarify - one solid mass of hard noodle. Please see exhibit 1. Then came the ribs, congealed barbecue jelly - a meaty coulis of sorts; this made 3/5 of the group physically wretch - one member of the group was not seen for some time as she took physically ill at the sight. If you dried this jelly out you could make a leather saddle out of it. The chefs special was literally prawns and gravy. The only thing they didn’t mess up was the Coca Cola. The prawn crackers were fine, though I’m not sure they should be solid yellow and three inches thick. I can honestly say I have never had a Chinese that has made me physically incapable of going out afterwards. I am but a vessel of the man I used to be before I ate this Chinese. Other than that thoroughly recommend.

This place fell down, used to be a good place to order a couple of years ago but now the food is horrid. Last time I ate this I vomited, listen to all these reviews and do not order from this place unless you are dying from starvation and even then I wouldn’t eat from here.

I used to order here when I lived with my mum a few years ago, thought I’d ignore the reviews and try it again for my mums birthday dinner. What a bad decision. Worst Chinese I’ve ever had!! The duck was so hard I couldn’t shred it and so burnt not even the dog wanted to eat it. I’ve never seen duck for my pancakes so hard in my life time. The chicken in the chicken balls was rubbery and the cucumber tasted off. Trust the reviews on here and don’t risk wasting your money.

The King Prawn Curry was tasteless, extremely bland as if they failed to season the prawns and the curry, and just tossed the fresh, unseasoned prawns into unseasoned curry paste. Very mediocre and it was also very expensive compared to other Chinese takeaways. They need a chef, who can produce authentic Chinese cuisine or they will miss out due to the stiff competition.

2nd time order. Food was over 45 mins late, food was cold and bland (no flavour), called the restaurant but the person couldn’t speak English well nor understand anything I said. Very upsetting as I was expecting nice food as past order previously.

Uber eats order. Food edible, needed seasoning. But egg fried rice with two of the smallest pieces of egg, 1 teaspoon of egg total. Chicken fried rice, tiny bits of chicken, not even 1/4 of a thigh. Both rice dishes were dry. NO UTENSILS, even though requested.

Very under par Chinese takeaway

Spring roll was excellent. Singapore noodles- were inedible, they had so much curry powder they were dark brown and disgusting. They had only 2 pieces of meat. The spare ribs were so fatty that only 30pc of them were meat. It was really disappointing.

It's been a while since I ordered from this place, now I know why. Food was bland and tasteless. Not bad as such, and I wouldn't have been upset to pay £7 to £9 for it but it was £20+. Prawn crackers neither crisp nor soggy, just greasy and tasted of nothing at all, No hint of yellow bean sweetness in the chicken in yellow bean sauce. Very disappointing.

Great customer service, as always. We love their food. Never had anything missng. And their delivery times always exceed the expected delivery times. In short, for us, they're amazing!

The food was expensive and not great the squid was tough and the lemon chicken was over cooked and dry. They missed the egg fried rice off my order and I was half way through my other food before it arrived. Not keen to order from here again

I ordered beef in black bean sauce and received pork in black bean sauce, called them to complain and was told that I was probably mistaken because they would never mistake pork with beef. Decided to never order from them again.

We normally really enjoy our food and we have ordered from here for years but todays food was nice but not great Beef was very fatty in the black bean sauce and we ordered shrimps with fried rice and it came with plain rice and wasn’t as nice as it usually is

I was given RAW chicken balls with overcooked batter - and all their food is salty. Stay away. They sent me a new batch of chicken balls the second batch looked worst. Threw it all away - no refund. My first & last ordering from here.

We enjoyed all the dishes in our order. They handled our special requirements and delivery was early. We’ll order from them again :)

Food and service was terrible. I specifically asked in the notes for no vegetables in the curry and it came with lots of peas and onions through it. The meat that was in the curry was chewy and bland I also asked for salt and pepper chips and the chips just came normal after being charged for salt and pepper chips. The chips that did come were dreadful. Like soggy oven chips. Won’t be back

This place has gone down hill so much absolutely disgusting!!! Noodles tasted like they cooked in old burnt pot!! Chips hard and soggy!! Chicken tastes like it in dirty oil!! I use to only order from here!! Honestly don’t waste ur money

Unfortunately, my favourite chinese restaurant seem to have dropped the quality significantly. The chicken balls were fried to an absolute crisp and the quality of the chicken inside is terrible. Stringy, cant be chewed. I still have them if you want to do an inspection. Probably wont order again.

I enjoy the Cantonese style king prawn dish. The soups, like those in many Chinese restaurants, can be doubled in size by adding water at home. Good veg dishes that are like a double portion. The starters are tasty but sometimes a tad overfried.

The Ribs were flavourful, not overpowered by salt

Food was dry no flavour felt like I was given dirty dish water for sweet and sour sauce,spring rolls burnt was no spring in it! Let alone any meat. I would not recommend getting food from this place a leather shoe would have tasted better than what I got.

Food is great, always order from here. We had a nightmare order from somewhere else before that kept pushing back it’s arrival time until it had been 2 hours then said the order was delivered when it wasn’t and turned up 25 minutes later after we had ordered from Golden City to replace it. They saved our night.

We enjoyed the rice but I definitely ordered sweet and sour prawns not pork balls - we don’t eat meat only fish but apart from that we everything was good.

Very bland food the beef in the beef in black bean sauce was like rubber very tough the chicken and sweetcorn soup was tasteless no seasoning whatsoever and the salt and pepper spare ribs were well overcooked

Fast delivery. Food looks good and definitely fresh ingredients but unfortunately fell short on flavour in both the fried rice and chow mien. It’s as if they forgot to add in the oil and spices. Chips were nice. Curry sauce was its saving Grace. That is outstanding.

Ordered chicken chow mien and fried pork. The chow mien was dry and burnt. No bean sprouts were included in the meal. The fried pork had a green colour to it. Yes the meal was shockingly bad for such a simple fast food dish. 4hrs later I have a stomach ache, and I feel sick. I will never order a meal from these guys ever again.

Fantastic takeaway Chinese from here, promt service, hot food, fast and everything in my order was complete. Chicken Chow Mein with thin noodles was my favourite. Thank you.
