Golden Cross Hotel - JD Wetherspoon in Bromsgrove

Female staff on till didn't ask who's next, just served someone who wasn't, but most importantly didn't apologise for error when this was pointed out to her.

Food very reasonably priced and drinks. Friendly staff. Outside area to sit, front and back. Needs better lighting.

This is our local weatherspoons, only gripe that I have is heating needed for outside seating and staff to be more cheery.

As always great value food and drinks. We visited with friends all were happy

Unfortunately had to wait quite a long time before being served there was only 2 staff on and the pub was full.

I've visited The Golden Cross a few times, and it’s always bustling with activity. On our recent visit, it was so busy that we had to wait for a table, but that’s often a sign of a popular spot! The staff are generally friendly and helpful, always ready to offer sauces and condiments with a smile. The food can sometimes take a while to come out, but given how busy it gets, it's understandable. Plus, the meals still taste good, which makes the wait worthwhile. Overall, it's a decent place for a bite to eat, especially if you don't mind a lively atmosphere!

Had a beautiful breakfast today. Probably the best Wetherspoons breakfast ever! The plates were hot , the food was fresh and hot and lovely service. Compliments to the breakfast shift staff. Will be back soon .

Was there worh a party of 8 for a birthday celebration. My food order came wrong. Wasn't informed on meal and drink deal had waited so long for order didn't complain as they were extremely busy. Same member of staff served me again. Wrong drinks order AGAIN! Requested a room away from busy part of area on 3 occasions but to be put in a room facing a food/ bar that was open untill 2am. Fights ,screaming, police cars right under the window .window open but unable to get to it due to a cover over window. Virtually no sleep at all . Systems went down later on in the evening, unable to get ANYTHING from the bar. Manager was totally unhelpful. Suggested her taking our card details for the Rooms to pay on departure but said No. Asked if we could bring our own drinks in said No . Systems down still in the morning, so couldn't have breakfast there .was sent over to their other wetherspoons. Total hassle to get breakfast there OR A COFFEE . Spoke to reception on following day little or no interest on how badly our stay had gone there No apologies or offer of voucher for maybe other wetherspoons in the future . I've stayed in lots of wetherspoons In the past and had great experiences. BUT WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU NOT STAYING AT THIS ONE .thank you for spoiling an eagerly awaited birthday weekend

Slot machine robbed me prices gone up just waiting for the money back now what i put in staff are excellent and helpful it’s just prices and the slot machine which has put me off going drink at home people !!!

And just as always, good as gold!!! Those wings are so delicious!! Shame i could not have a pint of draft as im on business trip and have meetings later on. Great place!! Friendly service!!

Had a lovely meal with my partners family for my step fathers birthday. very reasonably priced and a lovely interior it was lovely. Aside from the noise levels at times being a bit too high but thats expected for a pub to be honest. In all good quality venue with good quality food and drink for a reasonable price. nothing too fancy but will be exactly what you expect.

Spoons formula, good value. The food was quick, hot, and tasty. Beer was good. The location is great in the highstreet, but there is no parking as I could find.

Nice place but difficult to get a drink often have to wait ten minutes that's if they seve the Wright person waiting

What can you say about a Spoons......... it's a decent little boozer for a weatherspoons . Gents toilet is a 2 mile uphill battle, carpets older than me nan but apart from that , table service is decent 👌 pub has a good atmosphere 👌

Went for breakfast. Used the app as 4 people waiting at the bar and no staff serving. Breakfast arrived. All was cold. The syrup on the pancakes was disgusting, which tasted so synthetic. The bacon wasn't cooked. The only fresh item on my plate were the scrambled eggs, but they were totally unseasoned. My friends fried breakfast was very nearly inedible. The table check was very late, and she offered a swap but pointless as we would have had the same crap delivered

Can't go wrong with a wetherspoons, and this one didn't disappoint.

Golden Cross in Bromsgrove. Excellent. Cosy, lovely and warm. Friendly service. I love Wetherspoon's, wherever I go I always head straight for Wetherspoon's. I also enjoyed, ( as a visitor to the area) , the pedestrian area shops. A number of ancient buildings adding character to the area. All very good.

Prices are great. Simple food, served hot. Seated outside frontage as nice evening but they also have rear garden

Cheap beer, average food, slow service occasionally because they don’t have enough staff on shift at busy times. Men’s toilet is quite annoying… when you sit on the toilet the contactless flush is directly behind you so it periodically washes your balls while you’re taking a dump, when you’ve finished taking a dump there’s not enough water left in the cistern to actually flush the toilet.

Went for breakfast while the car was been serviced had the full English (no beer) honestly. 😉 The staff are friendly the food is good and the actual place is very clean you also has much coffee /tea has you want..

A typical Spoons does what it says on the tin. Beautiful place.

Orderly service non existant. Sometimes can have 5 or 6 staff behind serving area of which only 2 are actually serving. The others seem preoccupied with fiddly things..then on other occasions 1 maybe serving then a little group of 3/4 will appear from back area.. very frustrating and disorganized.

Average Wetherspoons - didn't have the wow factor for me but equally nothing particularly wrong with it. 3.5 🌟 would be more accurate but google can't seem to understand concept of 1/2 a star. Guest ales on the day were a batch doing the national rounds, all of them seen in other Wetherspoons recently on my travels - Mad Squirrel Unity, Titanic Plum Porter and Peerless Dark Arts (had a pint of this and in average condition, a liitle tired). Definitely to be included on any Bromsgrove pub crawl though. More exciting range of guest ales required 🍻

Nice atmosphere, ordered drinks to the table took 15 minutes to arrive after speaking to bar staff , Drinks were fine and reasonable priced

Just stopped to having a quiet drink. But found staff to be friendly and the ale was good. Location was good and seats within comfortable.

Cheap beer, polite cheerful staff and a reliable menu of reasonable food. The Golden Cross is more than a pub, it's a social centre for the town.

A huge Spoons with a great carpet. Beer yard at the rear backs onto a pay & display car park. Good ale - hence it’s in the 2024 Good Beer Guide.

Very off putting for my guest gents toilet have cctv cameras But no notice warning people the are there

Paid for extra items didn't receive got half a mushroom when paid for extra wouldn't do nothing about it staff rude ...

Came to wether spoons and order a large breakfast with extra side of bacon ,sausage mushrooms and hash browns My order came the food was cold the extras we had paid for wasn't on are plate, they plated the breakfasts up wrong and refused to sort it out I do not recommend!!

Lovely family atmosphere in the pub, full for lunchtime. I had the best pub fish and chips ever at a great price.

Typical wetherspoons you know what you are getting. Chips were nice food was a bit "thrown" on the plate! We had small ham egg and chips and boy it was small 11 chips? And they were small chips!

Just out for a not so quiet drink. Great prices.

Very good for beer. Food is hot although portions could always be bigger but it's decent food.

It's a 'spoons...it does what it says on the tin. It's large but comfortable, it's reasonably priced, and it's chilled but busy.

Good reasonable quality food,one of the better Wetherspoons. Tables cleared quickly,so can usually find a clean table quickly. Pleasant bar staff.

The atmosphere is great, it could do with tidying up though. Last few times we been in the App to order food wasn't working.

Typical Wetherspoons. Nice large pub with high ceilings. Weekday offers on food. 2 meals and drinks for under £20, where else can you get that sort of deal with table service? Our only gripe was that we had to clear a table for ourselves as several had been left without having been cleared and cleaned.

A great wetherspoons, staff and service was first class, very busy early Friday evening, usual wetherspoons food and drink on offer

Called in for a few drinks with friends. Although the place was busy, there was still the opportunity to sit down and chat while having a drink. The staff were polite and the prices reasonable.

Met up with a friend at Xmas the place was packed ordered food was quite surprised how quickly it was delivered considering how busy they were. Minus points were there were too many tables at the top, not allowing people to access tables and wouldn't be very accessible for people with disabilities. The food is basic like all of their pubs. It is what it is, and you know what you're getting. Would return just not when it's that busy

Visited Wednesday , and all though the pub was extremely busy , I still received my bottle of brilliant Brewdog Hazy Jane in less than 5 minutes , using the App.

We went on the 21st of December for a quick and easy dinner. Upon receiving our food some items where missing which the I assume manager quickly rectified and also offered us complementary drinks to compensate for the inconvenience. Best service we have had in a wetherspoons

We had a party of 28 last week for a Christmas lunch. From start to finish we were treated with such kindness and helpfulness. Harry was so helpful in helping me book and suggesting seating arrangements. Ellie was so calm and helpful whilst taking our orders. The young man and woman, whose names I didn't catch, even decorated our tables whilst we were out walking. The food all arrived on time and together and was hot. I can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay, but the welcome we received was faultless. Thank you all. And a very merry Christmas to you all.

Went there to eat on a busy Saturday evening. Food arrived quickly as normal and is still great value. Nice pint of Abbot ale too.

Very pleasant staff, had deli deal 8" pizza which was delicious...with drink excellent value for money 💰.

It's a weatherspoons! As far as one goes it's pretty decent!

One of my favourite Wetherspoons and always seems busy but never crowded or under-staffed.

Popped in for a coffee, refillable and bacon sandwich.

Popped in for lunch with the kids. It’s more pub than restaurant. It’s on a high street, there is parking at the back but you either need cash change or it’s got the parking app which was a right faff and would be so much better if you could just pay contactless card on the machine. Service in the golden cross was good, and quick. lots of food and drink options as usual in a Wetherspoon. Hot drink refills and the machines seem well maintained, one was not working when we arrived and had already been sorted before we left. The food was all nice, best thing from our table’s order seemed to be the boneless chicken bucket. Only thing putting me off was the menus were all sticky.

Not as good since all the staff were replaced. One member of staff clearly needs more training, and another needs to be a bit more user friendly

It's a spoonies, pretty much standard fare throughout the country. Friendly staff, quick service for food and drinks ordered via the App. Car park immediately behind which is free after 7pm

Had a meal last night mixed grill then had a steak today witch was so tuff never eat in their establishment's again wouldn't feed it to my dogs

They certainly know how to ruin an egg. Scrambled egg was like sawdust and eggs benedict was hardboiled. Did not use hotel facility.

A good town centre pub, nice beer garden at the rear and a a few tables at the front on the high street. Typical of a big chain pub and this one is none the worse for it

A friend & I went to lunch . We Sat at table 16 because it was by the door letting some air in as it was really hot. We ordered food. When it came to our table we had just started eating & there was a horrible strong fume smell It was a workman doing a job just outside the doorway with spray & paint . My friend suffers with her breathing anyway so we had to move inside the pub . I mentioned it to a staff member & she just apologized. I think there is a more convenient time to to a job like this not at lunch time.

Service of cleaning tables, clean mugs and glasses could be improved.

A couple of quiet drinks on a busy Friday night shift still saw us get served quite quickly with a mix of age groups in this place I've been coming here for years and the interior is basically the same as it always has been and of course there are lots of stairs to get to the toilets but the staff are good and the kitchen was still serving right up until 11 o'clock when the drunk rush piled in for their cheap drinks
