Golden Dragon in City of London, Westminster

2024 Christmas Eve dinner, the food was good, the service was good, but the environment was not good, but I was still satisfied. . .

Ordered some simple dim sum to dine with a friend and can feel the atmosphere was pleasant although towards the end it felt we couldn’t sat too long as we needed to leave for the next customers. Queues were everywhere for this. However, I think overall it’s decent restaurant.

Not even seated ,because came alone. Bad service.

We arrived and whilst they were very busy they seated us upstairs within 10 minutes. Very popular and we can see why. The food was delicious, both dults had Kung Po Chicken, egg fried rice and boiled rice, only thing is we would of liked these to be hotter in temperature as best served hot. Our Son loves Aromatic Duck, so he had a half duck as his main meal with the rices and he loved it! Drinks pricey but we are in London! 2 x Mains 1 x Half duck and 2 x Rices with drinks cost us £73.00 - included service charge a bit high and we were considering adjusting as was at our discretion.

I liked the menu for 2 to 27 pounds I had difficulty finishing the dishes but it was very good

Golden Dragon is one of the few English Restaurants we found that can accommodate big groups. They're a miracle worker in London where large numbers of diners get a surcharge. The food portions are so big. You can definitely save the rest of your food for takeaway. Servers were super friendly and efficient! The stairs to the toilets downstairs could be a bit scary, but the toilets are SUPER CLEAN which I appreciate

Low star rating to draw attention to the poor food labelling. The restaurant uses peanut oil in all its cooking and the menu doesn't mention prawns as a major ingredient in their "crab and pork" dimsum. Avoid if you have any concerns about what you eat.

Unfriendly service, even before we finished eating, a woman with a bob haircut placed a card reader on the table and waited for us to pay. Shortly after, a second server arrived, wanting to reset the table. Although we were still eating, she stood by the table and stared at us – even though only about half of the (4-seat) tables were occupied. The hours after the meal were spent visiting various toilets in central London; at home, we discovered that we had consumed food contaminated with viruses. I won't be coming back here...

This is the place we visit every time we come to London. The food is of average quality, the service is so-so, they add a 12.5% ​​service fee to the bill. There are always a lot of people there, we have never had any stomach problems, maybe that's why we keep coming back. Don't expect any unique taste sensations. The food is simply warm :-).

We had a really poor experience here. Our order was completely wrong, and when we pointed it out, there was no apology or effort to fix the mistake. The staff seemed uninterested in resolving the issue, which made the experience even worse. The lack of attention to detail and poor customer service left us very disappointed. We won’t be coming back.

Terrible service, it took them at least an hour to bring us the food and we were missing dishes to bring.

We went on 3 occasions for tea and was treated very well by the concierge and wait staff. On our last visited it was raining and we had got wet getting there and the rain continued on all night. When we asked for the bill, they suggested we stay and enjoy some complimentary items so we did not suffer getting wet with the current rain. The food quality was fabulous but pricing was high, but because it was so nice we did not have any hesitation going on the other two occasions. Thank you for showing care for us, it was appreciated as well as the concierges whit.

AVOID!! Incredibly rude servers. Pretty pricey and the food wasn´t good. EDIT: Our group spent the following hours in the Ole & Steen restrooms across the street with a food infection. Avoid at all costs...

The service is fast and the menus they offer are more than enough for a lunch or dinner.

22.2.23 Ridiculous that one has to wait to attract the attention of a waiter to order food or to be even found a table & then to sit (in a dingy corner !) in a restaurant of rude, cold & unpleasant staff who get stroppy if you don't want to pay the "Discretionary Service Charge" which is printed on the restaurant receipt! Maybe they should concentrate on making the noodles softer instead of pressuring customers to pay the SChg. or ask them to go elsewhere ! Typical attitude of gaudy establishments such as this where unacceptable staff manners is the norm & which is not certainly not acceptable in this part of the world & in the west! 10.11.24 Tasty food served in a clean environment with a changed staff attitude towards customers it seems.

We picked this restaurant because the food looked tasty from the outside, and we weren’t wrong. A slightly rude waitress showed us to our table, but everything after that was great. The portions are pretty big, this was the place in London where we ate the most and paid the least. Just for that, it was totally worth the visit!

There is a new set of dim sum not available elsewhere in Chinatown. I am going to try them again. This is possibly one of the best Chinese place in Chinatown London.

Far from the best quality food. A plate arrived 30mn later than the others, and they tried to scam us for that. Very impolite service.

Really good, meal prices were pretty decent as well considering major city Speedy service, but felt like you had to eat up due to people wanting to dine, but all in all cant complain.

A restaurant with average+ food at a reasonable price level. The seafood dish was good. The chicken noodle dish was tasteless (no spices).

Don’t believe the hype. Saw this on TikTok as a place to come in Chinatown and it was below average. Food wasn’t great, tasteless also quite expensive. Better places meters away. I came in the evening therefore didn’t try the dim sum maybe it’s better. I wouldn’t bother

Terrible. Lack of staff, no service. When we got the bill, one of the rudest waitress's ever to serve us. Part of the order was missing and we didn't get it until we were almost ready to leave. Very poor food quality. I would say that this was the worst Chinese that we have ever visited. Avoid.

The Food is awesome and the atmosphere is buzzing. As a customer I would love the service to be more warm and welcoming. But nevertheless it's a restaurant I will go again and again.

Excellent dim sum and other Chinese staples

the waitresses kept on pushing us to order more it was actually so annoying, after we refused and only ordered some meals they gave us the annoyed expression. seriously? the food wasnt even that good assuming that they sell it for a hefty price. atmosphere was weird, the place was filled with waitresses pushing ppl to order more. Disappointed.

This was, without a doubt, the best 'eating out' experience ever. The food is exceptional, and the service was above reproach. Everything was fresh, delivered in a timely fashion, and with a smile. Only problem is choosing what to have from the rather extensive, but reasonably priced, menu. Truly something for everyone though. Couldn't have asked for more. Will definitely be back !!

Never going back here and DO NOT recommend this place. I was told I couldn’t order anything less than £12.80 - never heard that rule anywhere. They’re only focussed on making money, the servers are barely bothered to even suggest proper dishes. The food was bleh at best. For Asian food, it’s a shame how bland the food was - no flavour, no salt. The chicken fried rice (which I had to order instead) was basically boiled chicken thrown with some peas and rice. If I could, I would give this place zero stars. Sad how they just care about money not food or customers.

Relative to Chinese food in a Western country, this is good; relative to what you find back home, this will not make the cut. For the price paid, you'd expect much better standards, especially for the quality of ingredients that they have access to. Also, don't expect top notch service quality, as it's Chinatown.

Extremely overpriced for very mediocre Chinese food. The bill does not have a breakdown of price on it with a significant service charge. Ordered Chinese rice wine and they served us cooking wine.

Waitress called Sam is super rude. We asked for the portions and she said “ I dont know how much you can eat”. She keep refusing to answer our questions and ignoring. Super super rude. They dont welcome you. Extremely disrespectful! DONT COME HERE

We went to eat during the week, we had to wait a little in line but they immediately gave us a table since they opened the upstairs dining room. Fast service, friendly staff We ordered several dim sun to share which were exquisite. To highlight the homemade pork dumplings, a delight.

Great staff from welcome to taking orders and bill. Amazing food, very tasty and reasonably priced. I’ve lived in London for 10 years and Golden Dragon is one of the best in Chinatown.

Restaurant was not busy but the front lady reception greeting was not friendly not welcome and feel rush when we are eat in with family even restaurant no busy lots empty places, definitely will not visit again, as there many restaurants nearby to try out better service and comfort.

Food was was very good had set menu for 2 more than enough food all very tasty seaweed not a fan however they had sprinkled some spice on it and honestly I would have eaten a bowl on its own it was delicious 😋 service staff very polite and efficient really not any waiting time between courses however no interaction with customers

The place was nice and clean, especially the toilets when you go to wash your hands are well taken care off and don't require a tetanus shot like so many other restaurants in china town. The food was just ok on this occasion. The taste was there but everything was just a bit overcooked and the meat portions are too small compared to the vegetables used in the dishes. The staff was helpful and courteous which made us feel welcome and taken care of. The service was just right.

The food is always great. It's reasonably priced for the location and it has proper large portions. My favourite is the crispy shredded duck and ho fun with sliced beef (not pictured(eaten too quickly)). Pictured are pork and aubergines (fire) and sizzling beef (sizzling)!

Called in for dinner after the theatre. The place was very busy but a table was found straight away. We went for a set menu and the soup was fine. However, the main courses were served in cold dishes and the pork dish soon went cold and this was also very chewy. The staff, whilst being vey quick and efficient, do not seem to have time to interact with customers, which s a pity. 12.5% added to the bill. The male toilets were rather grim with food stored nearby.

A friend took me here and glad they did as ordinarily I wouldn't queue for a restaurant. However, the wait was worth it. Busy and lively environment, but despite this good service. The food arrived as and when it was cooked, so it kept coming and was very good. Tea was a good choice to have as a drink. The cost for two was very reasonable and I will certainly consider going again.

Firstly, when there are too many people, the seating areas are quite tight. Tables and chairs need to be evenly spread to allow movement especially safer routes in case of fire... Other than that, the service was good, the food was good.

Nearly the best food I’ve ever eaten looks good and good food

I was genuinely looking forward to eating here after a few recommendations and seemingly varied menu. However, cramped seating, and food that genuinely was salted but somehow still bland ruined our evening food plans. Mid food, at best, and had the audacity to add a Discretionary Charge S/C. Assumed this is a service charge, but added onto the bill automatically for 3 people on a Sunday night? Might be optional but at this point, with previous communication issues, we didn't want to beleaguere the point.

Physically I am full, emotionally disappointed. It was noisy. Service mid. There was a 15$ service charge. Food was salty but lacked flavor. Not terrible but I would not return. Expensive for what it was. Dim sum only at lunch

Delicious dumplings in many varieties. The quality of the food is proven by the large number of customers of the Asian restaurant. I don't think anyone can rate Asian cuisine better.

Amazing took my fiancé to this restaurant for her first visit didn’t disappoint. Food was amazing as usual and the owner at the front greeted us with a smile took us to our table had a little chat with him he knew I was Turkish . But honestly very friendly and humble man (I’ll catch up with you soon my friend )

An old favourite of mine, but having not been in quite some time I was apprehensive given some of the most recent reviews. My experience was pretty much as good as always- clean, prompt service, steaming hot dim sum, and nice jasmine tea. Dim sum portions were smaller- only 3 Xiao Long Bao now, and less filling in the pork buns, but all in all still tasty and decent prices. Slightly irritating when one server cleared my plate and a 2nd came over with the card machine whilst I was still chewing- slightly too efficient really, but I will still be back.

One if the chinese Restaurant i ever visited

Go somewhere else. Prawn for £21 and a cup of soup for £17. The Lemon chicken tasted nothing like lemon.. plain yellow sauce with vinegar and a hint of sugar for almost £20. If you are looking for auhentic chinese food go somewhere else. We didn't have choice last time coz this restaurant opens earlier than most places in chinatown. Also, dumplings are saggy and wet and breaks before it reaches your mouth. Overall disappointed of the food quality for the money we paid. Service and ambiance is ok.

My friend and I were looking for a quick dinner as we had to catch a show. We ordered the roasted pork and Peking duck along with a side of egg fried rice, it was good but nothing amazing. The servers were really attentive and friendly, also helpful with my food allergies. The dim sum looks good so I would come back to try.

One of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. Food is always fresh and tasty, service is top notch, menu choices are plentiful and service is faultless.

Excellent customer service by the waitress. Food was very basic and lacked flavour.

Ordered take away a whole roast duck and roast pork home. But I found the roast duck was a bit burn and had four legs, they must messed up with the take away.

Our first visit to taste the Roasted Duck. It was okay only and not close to what we experienced at Four Seasons in Byswater . But Jackie and staff were great and Dim Sum was good.

My husband had spare ribs which had no meat on , then his main which was duck with black bean and chilli sauce had bone after bone in , so much so he had a bone stuck in his tooth, when we complained we were told there is supposed to be bone in it ,never before have we had this . ( surely this should say on the menu may contain bone ) The crispy seaweed also had no taste and was very stringy. The chicken in my dish was processed chicken and not real . When we paid our bill they took off the duck and we asked to remove the service charge and they were very rude .never before complained in a restaurant t even if the meal wasn't satisfactory but this was simply the worst Chinese we've ever had and spoilt our day out .

We came here for family reunion and it was a fantastic one, food was delicious, although one of us wasn’t happy with how uncooked his food was after mentioning it to the waiter that he wants his very well done, apart from that everything else was fantastic and we created a great memories here.

Never before have I complained about food even if the dish was poor but this place deserves my first review . Ribs with no meat and duck that was full of bones and stuck in my teeth . Rude staff was just the attitude this place deserves as it’s simply the worst Chinese I’ve ever visited . I wouldn’t be recommending that’s for sure

Always buzzing. Great dim sum. Long queues but worth it. Service was great. They set waiting expectation times, food to table times and even remind you of pick pocketers nearby. Their dim sum portions are bigger than expected. Would choose golden dragon ahead of others in china town.

Pancakes were so thin you could hardly split them and got 5 for 2 people. Shredded spring onion and chopped cucumber weren't freshly chopped. Plum sauce was disgusting. Who wants a deep fried spare rib with no meat on it in a Mix Hors D'oeuvres? And shredded beef for Mains, again disgusting, and obviously there to save money because there is almost no meat in it. Restaurant was tired looking with covers on the chairs. Older Chinese waitress who served us was miserable and ignored our greeting on arrival. Eastern European waitress who helped with some of the serving was friendly and lovely. I'm never going back to this restaurant or China Town! The food is exactly the same as it was in the 70s and 80s but just much, much worse.

We had wonderful food and it was very busy and very expensive. My chicken and sweetcorn soup was fantastic. I loved the food and I would recommend this place but go for the set menu , you will still enjoy it. The next time I would like to try somewhere else , so I can compare.
