Goodmanham Arms in East Riding of Yorkshire

Come here every year if I can. It's literally the best pub ever, everyone is so nice, the decor and lighting are so cosy, the fire is always in. Just a fantastic place to spend time and it's what all pubs should be like. Also a fantastic selection of red wines.

We've been here quite a few times and always enjoyed it, but our latest visit left me quite upset. Before we'd even got to the bar we were verbally abused by two or three men who appeared to be regulars, and although that's not the staff's fault they just stood by and said nothing. I've seen another review which mentioned rude local, so if you just want a quiet drink, avoid the place.

Avoid if you're not local. Had someone make a negative comment about "tourists" the second we walked in (I live the next village over) didn't even make it to the bar before one man began being verbally abusive. Left when another man literally told us to "piss off". Horrible place

We were here last weekend and had a lovely evening. I can't fault the pub or the staff, but we went in about an hour ago and were immediately met by open aggression from a couple of customers. Before we'd even got to the bar someone made a comment about 'tourists' ( we'd walked from Market Weighton) followed by more aggressive comments. We didn't even stay for a drink. We're not big pub goers, but don't see why that should exclude us from having a quiet drink. I suggest that you rein in some of your regulars before they get rid of all your customers.

Lovely open fires, atmospheric lighting, yummy food, friendly service.

Had a lovely meal prior to going off to Burnby Hall Illuminate. Definitely hadn't expected such delicious food. The staff were lovely too and accommodated my onion allergy with ease. The atmosphere was really friendly and had we not booked to go elsewhere we would happily have stayed all evening.

We ate here before going to Burnby Hall Illuminate. We'd never been before and expected basic pasta, but the food was beautiful. We both had chicken dishes that were delicious. The staff were lovely and extremely helpful. They happily made an adjustment to the dish to accommodate my onion allergy. Had we not booked to go elsewhere we would happily have stayed all evening. I would definitely recommend eating there and am looking forward to returning in the near future.

Waited 80 minutes for our lunch. Ordered dessert and then while waiting for them one of the staff told us they wanted the table back as the next booking had arrived. Despite this no rush to serve desserts and it was another 15mins before they arrived. We ate them quickly, staff cleared the plates from the table immediately after we'd finished and while one of us was at the bar paying another member of staff told us they needed the table. I complained we'd waited over an hour for our food and staff said we needed to understand the kitchen was very busy. Made to feel very uncomfortable. Spent £200. Was there two and half hours and yet had to eat two courses in less than hour. Poor service, staff handled the situation badly and at no time did anyone apologise for the 80min wait for food or for rushing us out the door.

Lovely food and service but I now smell like I’ve been on holiday in Hiroshima in 1945. It is so smoky in there I had to go outside and smoke 20 Marlboro reds to get my breath back.

We had a lovely meal here. The atmosphere was cosy with the log fire burning. The staff are really accommodating. The only thing is they don't have a physical menu. It's a board above the fire. But that's not an issue, I just took a photo and then we had a look. My mum had a stew that was literally cooked over the open fire. The meat was so tender. She really enjoyed that. A proper winter warmer. I had a burger which was delicious

Amazing!!! I can't believe it's haven't been sooner. Steak was delicious, perfectly cooked.

Our table was so close to two other tables I was up a d down letting people in and out, including the staff. Three log fires, beautiful pub, lovely staff, roast beef cooked beautifully. Veg a bit overdone. Pefer gravy separate.

Lovely old world feel, dark and atmospheric. Staff are friendly and attentive and we hardly had to wait to be served. The food was not of a great standard. Really chips but hard and light in colour. Poorly presented. Nice place for a beer for sure.

Booked a table at lunchtime for family, (you need to book to be sure of a table) charm and atmosphere in the pub is wonderful, staff are friendly and welcoming. We ordered a sausage dish and the homemade steak pie and both were excellent..... really enjoyed it thankyou.

We’re a walking group that stopped for lunch at the Goodmanham Arms. We booked and glad to do so as it was busy. I’m not surprised. It’s a cosy venue with tasty food and excellent customer service. We were asked if our group’s dogs bowls needed water, if we were good outside, if we needed the heaters on and if the food was good. I’m looking forward to coming again and trying another meal. If they can cater for vegans that would be the icing on the cake but understand if they don’t if there’s not enough call for it. I’m sure they would cater if asked in advanced. Really disappointed considering the current score of 4.8. Locals were rude making you feel quite unwelcome. The staff were nice and friendly and got my wife and I a table to eat at. I almost wish they hadn't though, as the food was mediocre at best. We both asked for ribeye steaks but received what appeared to be a sirloin. Steak was full of fat and quite chewy/tough for a medium rare cook. Flavour was good but had to leave about a third of it due to the excessive amount of fat on the cut. The chips and black pudding were both under cooked, whilst the peas were over. No-one checked on us after being served and we left unsatisfied. Such a shame as it looked and felt like it was going to be good.

The Goodmanham Arms is a lovely country pub in a most picturesque area of the East Riding of Yorkshire. The atmosphere is amazing, if it is hot, it has a lovely beer garden, if cold and rainy, it has a great fireplace and is cosy and warm. The Sunday roast is exceedingly popular (please book in advance) because it is a really mouth watering experience... and the Yorkshire puddings are the real deal, they are really something to die for. Locals are very, very friendly, so you will always get someone to share a pint with, even if you come on your own. Totally recommended.

Great pub, great atmosphere, great beer, also have a micro brewery on site, quirky place, a proper English country pub, prices great, well worth a visit.

Would have been a pleasant visit but for the behaviour of a grey haired woman who appeared to be the manager. She snarled and snapped at me for daring to asking advice regarding the largers on offer, none of which I had any knowledge. After I'd ordered two meals and two drinks I appeared to become invisible after later requesting iced water. I waa ignored by her and all the staff at the bar until a lovely woman who wasn't in uniform asked if I was being served and kindly brought iced water. As we left she also asked if we had enjoyed our meal. When I settled the bill the extremely rude grey haired woman didn't bother to ask. Enjoyable meal completely spoilt.

I ask see food pasta today 6/09/24 When it came all the prawns cooked and left you to clean including Mussels plus full of tomato sauce no garlic. Very disappointed

A well loved and used pub with many great ales and nice food. Regardless of the time of day, you will always find a good crowd here.

I've had many anomalies amazing Sunday lunch here, over the years, but until last Wednesday, hadn't been to their Italian night. The place was heaving, and we watched some of the food come out before we made our choices. We friend had a vegetarian risotto, and I had a pasta dish with tomato and Italian sausage. Both dishes were presented beautifully, and we're very tasty. We followed up with elderflower and lemon cheesecakes - which were heavenly. Very friendly and courteous staff, great atmosphere. Cannot recommend highly enough. Book ahead.

Quick stop for a pint on a hot summer day, and it was a nice place. We will definitely make a point of returning when we're next in the area.

Loved this place and hope to go back soon to sample the menu. Fab pub, open fires and interesting artefacts on the walls and ceiling. Cosy feel, lovely welcome and we had a very nice coffee.

Absolutely superb food and service! We went as part of our Hull Dining Group as had heard the food was of excellent standard and quality. I have to say they did not disappoint! The portion sizes huge, the quality was excellent and the service was perfect. The pub itself is very quaint with bags of character. They even sell local free range eggs and home made jams (which we of course had to pick up) They had no problem in catering for a large group of 10 and there were no delays in the food coming out all around the same time. They also catered for vegetarian option with a substantial sized pie and also able to cater for gluten free at the last minute. Overall this place is excellent.

Great cosy pub/restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is very "quirky" inside. With all old fashioned binoculars, cups, cameras, jugs. Hanging from the ceiling to name a few items. The walls have shelves with all old fashioned items on them. Photos are also on the walls. It is interesting to see and spot all the items. Outside sitting is available. No carpark is available. Free on street parking.

Beautiful home cooked food. Not the widest selection but you know its all cooked fresh and the portions are more than ample in my opinion.

Always a lovely meal here owners and staff are wonderful a warm welcome by all.

Great pub full of interesting memorabilia, good selection of ales, dog friendly outside of food service. They only do food on certain days so it's worth checking the website or Facebook and it's well worth it for the money. Ideally need to book.

This pub is amazing. I only went in for a sandwich, come out full to the drum. Proper home cooked food and the pub itself is amazing, very old!

Didn't have food, but it looked great. Fantastic range of cask ales. Great beer garden too. Located in a nice village. Staff super friendly. Only a short walk out of Market Weighton. But well worth it. Oh and the beer is a keen price, but that felt incidental

The Goodman Arms is a great proper traditional English village pub. It serves an excellent range of hand pulled, cask conditioned real ale cheaper than a lot of pubs. Some of the beer is brewed on site by the landlady. It's a lovely cosy pub with two real fires and an interesting collection of memorabilia, including the landlords motorbikes. The traditional home cooked food is excellent. There is a beer garden and outside seating area. No bar games. The pub is regularly in the camra good Beer Guide.

Really cute, quirky pub with its own microbrewery. We got such a warm welcome from both staff and customers when we popped in after our walk. Unfortunately food wasn't on when we visited due to a wake later in the day, but we will be back to try it!

We stopped by after a walk, hadn't booked, but they checked with the chef and said we could eat if we ordered quickly as they had a large group arriving, which we did. Got a table outside in the glorious sunshine. We had 2 roasts, a kids roast and a tortellini. All huge, and delicious 😋 . Not expensive either, less than £70 for our food and drinks for 4 people. We will definitely be back!

I had mushroom pasta. Wife had the fully loaded burger .and was very tasty and didn't have to wait long for it to be served outside in the spacious and intriguing Court yard plenty of things to look at and talk about .locals was very inviting and talked to us as though we new them forever. Staff where great .so if your passing call in you won't regret it

Four of us visited on a Thursday lunch time in April. The food was superb. I had the ploughman’s and my husband and our friends had the sea food platter, followed off with a crumble for sweet. The food was a very reasonable price and the staff were very friendly. The venue itself is lovely, a typical olde world country style pub in a beautiful village. I would highly recommend the pub and look forward to visiting again in the future.

Our friends were taking us on a short culinary adventure in Yorkshire and this was our first stop for lunch. I trusted my friends’s judgement but ,on a cold windy day ,the outside left a bit to be desired. Inside was a different matter with the log fire blazing and all tables reserved. The menu was promising but what arrived was brilliant. The veggie platter for the girls was delicious and enough for two. John and I both had the Ploughmans which was a very generous helping of 4 cheeses and a lovely chunk of pie. Delicious!!

Great pub, well run, excellent food and ales

What a wonderful pub! Staff were brilliant, the ambiance was brilliant, the quirkiness was brilliant, the food was absolutely delicious.. I had the best fillet steak I have had in years and years.. it was cooked to perfection and came piping hot. I would have preferred chips to roast potatoes but that’s ok. One thing only, the bar is small and drinkers cluster around it. It would have been nice if the staff offered to bring drinks to the table.

My husband and I both had Sunday lunch today at the Goodmanham Arms. We both went for the beef. When the meals arrived they both came with 2 thick slices of beef, cooked medium rare and were absolutely delicious. They were accompanied by a lovely mixture of vegetables which were also cooked to perfection. Also Yorkie pud, roasties and mashed potato. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. It is definitely a step above the usual roast beef and trimmings. Would definitely recommend. 👍

Firstly, the good stuff. This is a fantastic pub. One of the best I’ve ever visited for atmosphere and proper ale. It’s the sort of place you never want to leave. The young girl behind the bar was so friendly and helpful. Our table was reserved and ready . It’s was madly busy but that’s a good thing. We ordered various Sunday lunch options and I had the half chicken. Absolutely lovely and really enjoyed it. There was only one veggie option for my partner and she didn’t really fancy that so I asked for just the veg. What turned up wasn’t really much and we asked for extra which to be fair, they brought. But no veggie gravy? It was dry and not very appealing. We were paying for a dinner, so come on,slap an extra potato and an extra Yorkie on there and a bit of non meat gravy! Not much more effort but way nicer for the customer. That’s the only negative in an otherwise lovely afternoon. Like I say, this is a great pub !

Quaint olde worlde pub in a nice setting. Food and ale was spot on. The steak pie must have had half a cow in it and was a struggle to finish but I managed. You could spend half a day just looking at the curio's and antiques in the pub. Two roaring fires gave it a homely atmosphere and the locals were friendly and up for some banter.

We called in for the first time for lunch before we started our walk. It was a gorgeous sunny day so we sat outside which was lovely in the spring sunshine. We ordered drinks and the tomato vegetable pasta and fish and chips. The pasta was extremely over cooked and sloppy and just slipped straight off my fork onto my clothes and the garlic bread was overdone and tasted a bit stale. The tastiest thing about my pasta was the mushrooms and we all know they’re pretty tasteless. I managed about three mouthfuls and pushed my plate to the side. My husband had the fish and chips which again was quite tasteless though the homemade chips were very good. I don’t usually write bad reviews but it is quite possible the worst meal I’ve had which is so disappointing as the beer garden and atmosphere was lovely. We should have mentioned something at the time but with a pub full, it can make you particularly uncomfortable and not once did a waitress ask if everything was ok when clearing empty glasses despite a full plate of food being left. Such a shame.

Fabulous food and warm atmosphere...!! Booked for Italian night 20th March, as it had been a 'special' birthday on 19th March..!! Visited with hubby, step-daughter and one grandson.....hubby and had seafood linguine - fabulous ...!! Stepdaughter had lasagne....fabulous...!! Grandson chose of kids menu - pasta in tomato sauce plus ice cream and brownie ..!! Service excellent and food equally so....!! A great evening Thank you Vito, Abbie and all staff 😋😋😋😋🥰 We will be back ❤️

So much food. Beautifully cooked and presented. Reasonable price. Definitely best roast lunch I've had. Drinks and coffee were good too. Too full up to have dessert.

Wonderful family fireside lunch today in cosy surroundings accompanied with the best local Yorkshire beers. Personally, I think you’ll struggle to find a finer pub in the area, a true gem nestled in the beautiful Wolds. Good honest home made food, quality ingredients and proper portions! Extensive range of hand pulled ales, championing 8 local breweries. Friendly, warm & welcoming hosts made our visit all the better. A must if visiting the area.

Vito and Abbie always very welcoming and accommodating, we had Xmas dinner( just before Christmas), not joking it was the best Xmas dinner I’ve ever had, asked if I could get a takeout on Cmas day 🤣

A wonderful stop on our walk. Traditional cosy pub. The food was on point with an excellent selection of local cask ales.

Simply lovely food we had the daily gypsy pot cooked over the fire beautiful. The service was also first class and choice of drinks were varied. The only thing that spoilt our experience was a couple of locals were in the main bar area and to say there language was colourful would be off the mark one of them I think could only converse in foul colourful language, such a shame

A quirky pub in a small village We visited on a Thursday lunchtime and it was packed our Chicken and chorizo dish was very tasty with a choice of roast or chips and fresh veg. Nice friendly staff and good service I would suggest prebooking as it was vey busy

Is this the best pub in East Yorkshire with the best food? Yes! I've been a few times now but we went on Italian night on a Wednesday. My God, this is how Italian food should be cooked. No surprise as the Landlord is Italian himself, but you have to go and try it out. Sunday lunch superb as well, delicious and very generous portions. Even if you fancy just a pint, there is no better pub.

A cosy atmospheric and historic pub with great food, good ale and its own microbrewery. We have visited many times over the years and it never disappoints. On this visit just drinks and sandwiches but the presentation, and salad garnish were excellent. There are lots of great walks and dog routes locally so it can be the focus for a lovely day out. At this time of year the menu is on the daily specials board but even when quiet they cater for all tastes.

Really would like to book for this Sunday lunch but not answering the phone to take my booking 😒 Been trying since yesterday.

First rate - absolutely what you want from a traditional pub... the food was excellent and not with silly hyped up prices like some places.

After our walk, we visited Goodmanham Arms, which was an experience of sampling an older public house with fine beers and low lighting with an ambience, unlike other public houses, highly recommended 😀

One of the best ! Staff were very accommodating of a change in time , never felt hurried despite it been busy ,food great and very good value 😀 small point for owner there is still some covid signs that are confusing
