Fantastic food, service and environment. We visited in the lull between Christmas and New Year for a family meal to celebrate a mile stone birthday. The service and food were incredible, absolutely faultless. Extra thanks for making a special not on menu dish for the fussy eater.

Went here for a New Year’s Eve meal and it was absolutely fantastic. The service was fast and the staff were all lovely. We were given some bread and oil to share and then had steak and it was all delicious. Will definitely be back!

Beautiful food and wonderful atmosphere. The staff are lovely and willing to help in whatever way they can. The seabass was incredible - definitely worth the money!

Booked for my birthday but couldn't attend due to illness. So booked for New years Eve meal for family. So looking forward to this. And I must say they didn't disappoint. Filet steak beautiful. Roast chicken cooked well prawn risotto very tasty. A must if visiting penrith or even if you live here.

We travelled from Lincoln to visit family and we came to this restaurant for tea one evening. All I can say is that it is the best food I have ever eaten! Everything was cooked to perfection. We shared the scallops and the pigeon for starters and we were blown away by how good it was. We had the steak and the lamb for main course. The steak was cooked perfectly, no fat or “stringy bits”, the chips were great too. The staff were very friendly and attentive also! We had a great evening here. Would 100% revisit and would always recommend going here to others.

Superb return meal (for me) to Grants. We were party of 8, with some fickle members among us, and yet all were impressed by the quality and amount of food served. Really cannot fault the place and we will be returning for next Christmas and other occasions before.

I normally reserve my 5 out of 5 reviews for perfect or exceptional experiences. This wasn't either, it was a 18/20, but it would be unfair to give it a 4 out of 5 rating. Service, Food & Value for money were all excellent. A 3 course meal of this quality from their 'Festive Menu' for 40 pounds, is hard to beat. Every dish was the perfect size with superb flavor and seasoning; trio of fish and pate appetizer, chilli prawn risotto and beef cheeks, crumble and selection of cheeses = EXCELLENT. So, why the 18/20 ? .... This restaurant is too good to be providing PAPER napkins ! I know laundering napkins costs money and restaurants are working with tight margins, but this restaurant deserves to have cotton napkins ! Ignore my little napkin rant and give this place a try. It's less than 10 minutes from the motorway, so a perfect stop when traveling up to Scotland or down to England.

We had a really enjoyable evening - excellent food and lovely staff in a great restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

We will definitely come back here as the food was so delicious and the staff was very friendly. For starters we had the, Lobster and Prawn Croquettes with Lime Mayonnaise and Parmesan. DELICIOUS!!! Seared King Scallops with Pea Puree and chop chorizo ,Very tasty and fresh. The mains we had. Roast Lamb Sirloin with a Warm Salad of New Potatoes, Roast Carrots and Basil Pesto( gf). The lamb was cooked to perfection and the perfect amount of of pesto not to overpowering like I have had in over venues Red Wine Braised Beef Cheek, Maris Piper Mash, Chimichurri Sauce and Roast Root Vegetables(gf) The beef just melted in your mouth. Everything about this meal was was delicious and with every mouthful brought u closer to the end which you didn’t want to end. Dessert, we had Sticky Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce and Madagascan Vanilla Ice Cream (v) The sponge was so light and fluffy not stodgy like iv had before in over venues a pure delight to eat Iced Dark Chocolate Parfait with Summer Berries, Almond Praline and Coffee Syrup (v,gf) PS: sorry no photo of the king scallops as she devoured them before I could get a pic 😂and there was three lobster and prawn croquettes

Really lovely dinner tonight at Grant's. Great menu and wine choices, all courses extremely tastey. Excellent service and lovely atmosphere. Felt well catered for as a vegetarian. We will be back!

We visited here during a short break. The quality of the food and flavours are second to none. Everything was presented beautifully on the plate, good portion sizes and options for children. We had souffle to start which was sublime then lamb and braised cheek of beef. Both were superbly prepared with sumptuous sauces. The sticky toffee pudding and dark chocolate parfait are not to be missed! All this delivered with friendly and knowledgeable service. This is a must visit !

I dined here with my partner for the evening menu and can I just say, wow! The atmosphere was lovely and staff were attentive, our plates were always cleared at the right time and I wasn't asked if the food was okay because they knew it was. A great sign of a great business. Complimentary balsamic and bread went down well with the Mrs. The food was lovely and well presented, how they do not have a Michelin star yet I will never know!

Visited Penrith on 24th October and booked Grants as the reviews all looked good. We were not disappointed as the food was lovely and the service was attentive. We shared the scallops and I had the sea bass ravioli whilst my wife had the pork three ways, both of which were cooked and presented to perfection. We shared the sticky toffee pudding which was heavenly. Happy to recommend this restaurant and would certainly return if we are in Penrith again.

Had a wonderful evening, service impeccable, food excellent and the atmosphere was charming. I fully recommend Grants of Castlegate if you want an evening to remember. We will be going back!

Stayed in Penrith for the weekend and this was the best meal we had. Lovely food, great service and even better that we could bring our dog with us too.

Glad we stumbled across this excellent restaurant the lady who attended to us was very considerate to our needs. By the time my wife found a red she liked she had had the equivalent of a small glass and the food was the best we’d had during our three weeks in Scotland

I visited the restaurant whilst on a family break at centre parks and couldn’t have been happier. The food was of a very high quality with every course a pleasure to eat. We also thanked the chef personally for his attention to detail and fantastic food.

When you enjoy a 3 course dinner and cannot decide which course was best you know they are all very good! Great food beautiful cooked and presented in a modern restaurant. Highly recommended we will return .

This was the second time we’ve visited Grants, everything we ate and drank was delicious! One of my favorite restaurants I have yet to find a better steak.. The staff were very friendly especially Heather who served us through the night.

Such an amazing restaurant! Michelin star level, trio of pork and the lamb main courses were sumptuous! Called in for a late booking and it did not disappoint! Heather the manager was excellent. Food quality was amazing. We had chicken liver starters and sourdough, mains were chicken and steaks that all melt in your mouth. My friend got the hiccups and Heather suggested he have 2 spoonful of vinegar which got rid of them. it was crazy lol. Higly recommend this place. all reasonably priced too.

One of the best meals we've had in the UK. At the recommendation of the staff, we had the cheese soufflé and the lamb. Both were sublime. We read great things about the scallops and they did not disappoint one bit. Great atmosphere, exceptional food and excellent service. Dog-friendly too!

We had a truly delightful meal at Grants of Castlegate last night! We started with a smoked duck dish which had such an interesting and delicious flavor profile. We then had the trio of pork and the bass/ravioli which we thought were delicious as well and well proportioned. My husband finished his meal with the sticky toffee pudding which he made quick work of. I'm fairly certain he would have licked the plate if it were acceptable! I personally have celiac disease. The staff were knowledgeable of my dietary restrictions and accommodated me well. I had no stomach issues afterwards which I was very appreciative of. Thank you Grants of Castlegate for a lovely meal! Should we find ourselves back in Penrith, we'll stop by for another visit!

Excellent food and fantastic service! This is definitely one of our top favorites for the Lake District area. We had the King Scallop and Trio of Fish for starters - both were great. For mains, the Sea Bass with lobster & crab tortellini in bisque was fabulous. The mushroom risotto was outstanding. We couldn’t help but share everything among us 😊. The lemon meringue tart was just the perfect dessert to wrap a splendid evening.

We had a lovely meal only very slightly mared by an electricity outage. The staff were great and we can not fault the food or service. The local electricity company on the other hand let everyone down.

Went for afternoon tea with bottomless Prosecco and it was perfect from start to finish. On arrival we were greeted with our 1st of many glass of Prosecco, the food was delicious and the ladies serving made you feel the most important guests. 2 hours of giggles, great company and dancing. Perfect perfect perfect.

Saturday evening walk in, staying in Penrith to compete on Graystokes car rally. One of the best steaks I’ve had, no frills, just lovely. Lemon posset for desert. Food excellent , great service. Defiantly return Thank you

It was a Sunday night in Penrith so we were happy to find a place for dinner that had good food. We had a table in the conservatory which was bright and airy. We shared two starters, the scallops and the trio of fish. Both were excellent! Then two orders of sea bass with crab and lobster tortellini over lobster bisque, and a risotto with wild mushrooms and parmesan. Very nice dinner, along with a bottle of white wine. Lemon meringue pie with white chocolate ocean for dessert was also excellent.

Four of us had different starters, different mains and different deserts. All of us agreed we have never had better food anywhere at any time. We will be back as soon as we can. The atmosphere and service can not be beaten.

Had the most amazing meal for my 30th birthday. Heather and Mike were amazing. Making the time to make sure we were happy and accommodated. We had the scallops to start which I begrudged sharing with my partner as they were so perfect! The steak was the best we have ever had (and we’ve been to a lot of high end steak restaurants). We would highly recommend to anyone and always return when we visit the Penrith! Thankyou :)

Me and my dad came for a meal tonight, the food was to die for! Worth every penny! Compliments to the chef and the lady who took care of us was lovely and couldn’t do enough for us! Fabulous food and service. This is now the fourth visit we have made here (whilst stopping in Penrith the night before checking into centre parcs!) and we love coming back. The vegan options we were offered were delicious and well made as well as the vegetarian options and meat options. Happy customers all round! A great dinner this week at Grants, the food is always fresh and good portions. They have a good wine selection and the staff are friendly and helpful. It’s great to have a local bistro offering modern style dishes in an atmospheric building.

This was the second time my partner and I had visited this cute little local restaurant. It is an absolute hidden gem. Heather and Tracey (sorry if I spelt your name incorrectly ) were fantastic hosts, offering detailed guidance on the menu, which was really helpful. The menu is fantastic, offering something for everyone, but at the same time keeping it simple. We ordered starters, mains and also desserts. Our food arrived and all I can say is wow, the presentation but more importantly the taste far exceeded our expectations. It is not often I am left speechless. My taste buds were ignited with each mouthful of this delicious meal. I can honestly say that the quality, taste and presentation of the food, matched that of a Michelin star restaurant. We cannot wait to return next year for our next visit to the lakes. It is a small restaurant, so booking is advisable.

This was a family dinner on Good Friday. The menu is well planned, and prepared, and executed with superb service! The wine & drinks menu is also up to the task. Overall, this was an excellent dining experience. I have dined in and around Penrith and I would say this is the premier restaurant in the area. The people running this restaurant truly know their stuff!

Amazing food. I'd go as far as to say one of the nicest meals I've ever had. And our biggest surprise is that they are dog friendly so our 5 month old cockapoo got to come along too! Service was brilliant and food was out of this world.

Came here for a significant birthday celebration. 14 people dining. Food, wine and beer were excellent. The service is oustanding with very helpul and pleasent staff. One of our party said that the wild mushroom risotto was the best that they had eaten in a restaurant! We have eaten here before as a couple and would highly recommend for couples and large parties.

A group of 10 of us attended the Bottomless Brunch yesterday and what a spectacular afternoon was had by all!!! Wonderful service, great food and literally, not one glass empty for longer than 2 minutes....spectacular!! Thank You Heather and Steve!!!

We ate here last night following TripAdvisor as we often do and we were delighted. Lovely ambience, friendly welcoming staff. The menu covers most food types and the quality of the food when it arrived was outstanding.

What a treat, the food is excellent, not over priced, great atmosphere, first time I have been but definatley will not be the last, going again in April for the brunch.

Happy with the experience, but nothing amazing. Cheese souflee was nice but maybe too creamy. Rissoto nice but nothing amazing. Lemon meringue dessert nice flavour but custard too eggy. Overall ok but nothing outstanding. Shame!

I recently booked the advertised pie night for 9 ladys. The service staff were spot on We all decided to do the pies, just amazing plenty of well prepared and presented food. All the lady’s were well impressed. Very special place to eat.
