Great North Pie Co in Manchester

Hands down the best pie and mash I’ve ever had in my life. I eat pie and mash about three times a week, at home and from various places up and down the country and nowhere has ever come close to this place. Pies were perfect, sides were unbelievably good. Price was decent. I even bought 4 pies to take home with me. Cannot wait to return

Warm welcome and friendly service. We order the Steak & Ale Pie with fries and onion gravy. Without sauce the pie would be a bit too dry on the edges for my taste, but otherwise great and therefore all the stars. The happy hour until 6 p.m. also came in handy for us ;)

Small place with amazing home pies even a vegetarian option was good. I had a pie with beef- lots of proper meat inside. Advised for quick quality meal. I would come back.

Super fun place with nice staff, great music, and outstanding pies. We had the chicken & ham, cheese & onion, and special holiday pie (turkey, stuffing, etc.), some with chips and gravy, some with red cabbage, and each and every one of them was amazing. Great pastry, nicely filled with very delicious and well-balanced ingredients. The chips were cooked to perfection, and the gravy was out of this world. (Also, I ordered the cheese & onion, and they offered me vegan gravy if I wanted. I had the regular gravy, but I thought that was a super nice option.) It's tiny (cozy!) but there is outdoor seating as well. Good choice of drinks as well. The menu might be small, but that is a good thing, because it is all executed perfectly.

Excellent steak and ale pie full of flavor and packed into the pie. Service was excellent also from a lovely lady called Lauren. Selection of drinks was good too. Me and my friends had a great afternoon.

A few weeks ago I saw a YouTuber " Gary eats" review this restaurant. I now follow this mainly London based food critic on his travels. Like Gary I loved this place. Plenty of his followers have now been here. Super pies for £7. Great shortcrust pastry and generous fillings. Paulicarus and I shared a beef and ale with mash ( £4 extra for mash or fries) and a chicken and ham with mushy peas. A gravy pot was £2.50. Pint of Track brewery Sonoma £6. Very small inside. Outside tables not busy on a frigid November day. Two veggie pie options. Just off the famous Canal Street.

Staff were incredibly helpful today, My husband is in a wheelchair and needed a ramp putting out for the few steps into the place, They got it out no bother and helped us in with big smiles on their faces and made our trip enjoyable. The food is spot on and the place is immaculate! Couldn't have had a better lunch.

It states online it closes at 22:00, we arrived at 21:02 and the person on the counter said they were shut.

Delicious pie and great service. Personal preference would be for gravy served separately in a jug but otherwise enjoyed it

Had the beef ale and chicken & mushroom pies. Sides were cauliflower & cheese and mushy peas. Beef ale pie was tasty, well seasoned. The chicken & mushroom was a bit dry to my liking but had the toasted chicken flavour. The cauliflower & cheese side has too much cheese and perhaps more cauliflower would be better. The peas side tasted fresh & not salty. Service was good and staff welcoming.

It was a small establishment, but the pies and chips were delicious.

I went at midday and the staff was lovely and professional. The food is amazing and I'll make sure to eat there again soon. Price is very reasonable especially for that quality of food!

Loved it! Canadian visiting the uk for the first time, was looking for some typical British food to try that we don’t commonly have back home and that wouldn’t break the bank. Hit the jackpot with this place!

Excellent food where a small menu („only“ 4 main dishes) is actually a good thing. We tried both vegetarian options on the menu and were both stunned. Also our daughter with the kids‘ choice loved it. We tried mash and chips as sides and especially the mash was marvelous.

I was born in the UK so pies 🥧 are a favourite and this was the perfect little individual pie. I had beef and it was melt in your mouth. I ordered 2 sides, mash and gravy. The pie was put on top of the mash which was very cold and the gravy was all poured in the plate. It all tasted good so I ate it all, but cold mash was a bit off-putting. And it was lucky I liked the gravy or the meal would have been a write off. Good selection of wines and cocktails. Tiny little restaurant- 6 or 7 tables inside. Loved it and would visit again.

Recently visited on my first day in town while on holiday from the U.S. I cannot say enough about the 14 hour braised beef and ale pie, I almost wept when I took my first bite.

The pie and sides here were absolutely exceptional. Top 5 pies of my life without doubt. Powerful well balanced flavour, excellent thin crust. Fantastic mash and the mashed garden peas were also outstanding. If you have a pie craving, go here! Great little spot next to the canal in a pocket of tranquility with great drinks too 🥧 🍻 🫛 🌿

Great little spot to grab some of the best pies in Manchester. Small spot which is great for casual dining. With it being so small there’s not much atmosphere so I wouldn’t say it’s a great date spot for example but you need to try it!

Looked great but I didn't know that it was a restaurant as I was just looking for a pie shop as I had to catch a train & only had 5 minutes! Did look fabulous though (I ended up with a very limp Greggs for the train trip! Lol)

Absolutely delicious steak and ale pie, lovely crisp and light pastry, steak filling was jammed full inside the pie! Mash was lovely, flavourful and silky smooth. Gravy packed with meatiness, my only gripe would be not having it on the side to pour myself. As I found the Mash and gravy portions just a tiny bit lacking. But great and speedy service, friend and welcoming staff. Will definitely be back! Would love to see a combo deal with the Pie, Mash and gravy and is a small Bob on the expensive side but only by a £s.

Fantastic service, delicious food and very good prices. There are happy hours during the week, during which you can buy beer and other alcohol 30% cheaper. 👩‍🦽 The bathroom is adapted to the needs of disabled people.

The pie with 14 hour cooked meat was amazing. The crust was crisp and fresh. The service was very friendly. We arrived 3 minutes before happy hour ended and still got the 30% discount. The prosecco was really good. Food arrived quickly. Good home made fries and gravy.

Doggy-friendly both inside/out, lovely welcoming staff and the food was really tasty. The menu changes depending on the season but whatever pie you choose definitely get a side of mash, gravy and cauliflower cheese as they’re really tasty. Highly recommend the apple cider that they sell.

Very very good! Prob the best pie I've ever eaten, I got the brisket one. Recommend the side of chips and peas, chips are homemade and not basic frozen fries, which is very rare. The vibe and music of the place were very good too, loved the interior design and the location too is stunning, bathed in green and nature.

The best steak and ale pies we’ve ever had! The pies are stuffed with braised beef and the dough is thin and crispy on the outside. It went great with Manchester union lager and the prices were very fair too!

Such a good place hidden away and well worth visiting. The staff are super friendly and are super helpful, the restaurant itself is very nice, intimate feeling and a little small so if you do visit, be sure to book ahead of time (I was quite lucky I got in). The food though is absolutely gorgeous. The steak and ale pie I had was so rich and flavoursome, the mash buttery and smooth. Everything was good. The portions also are pretty substantial so you may not have to get one per person since things like the peas could easily be sharable. Overall a great visit and one that made me a very happy and full person.

The pies are absolutely amazing! The pastry so luscious and crisp. The filling cooked to perfection and plentiful. The gravy and mash perfect. And at an incredibly reasonable price. Absolutely brilliant

First things first, this venue is small so you may get told there's no space, it's worth trying a few times, you won't be disappointed. The staff were lovely when I arrived, and I took up a small booth. The staff member came over really friendly and I ordered a pie, mash and gravy with a lager. I cannot recommend this place enough, the food took maybe 15 minutes and was delicious. I would happily go again :)

As a vegetarian I had an absolutely excellent onion pie and cauliflower mac. The other pies also looked very delicious. I appreciate the menu only having a few selections. That means they do all their food to perfection. Would highly recommend.

Possibly the best pies I’ve ever eaten. I recommend the cheese and onion pie or my personal favourite: butter pie that I hope they bring back on the menu this year. The sides are great and the whole meal is a perfect size for lunch or dinner. The only gripe I have is how small the place in Kampus is, there have been a few times where the wait time was too long for a table. The Altrincham food market location also sometimes doesn’t have all of the sides so there are limited options but still - so delicious so that I overlook these things. Hoping for gluten free pies or at least some good GF sides that can be made into a meal.

Sign says it opens at 11:30. It wasn’t open. I hung around for a while and still no sign of it opening. It ruined my plans.

Food was good but the two times I've attended the man in the kitchen.. chef maybe the owner .. was very moody and unprofessional he's not good for the business with that attitude.

These pies are something else and it’s no wonder they are award winning. Can only speak for the cheese and onion, but it was a delight. Subtle, yet tasty. Perfect pastry. Wish I had have bought a spinach and cheese too!

Amazing pies, pastry is so light and delicate, chips are homemade and nice and crispy. Hard to beat and then amazing value too £12 for pie and chips Also waitress last night was so friendly and helpful, also has an great taste in music curating the playlist ☺️

This is an amazing, cozy place to have a good pie. Really lovely staff. If you're fond of small places with good music, food, and few people, this is the one.

This venue is absolutely amazing. It's quite small inside, so you would be advised to plan ahead so you get a table. There are plenty of tables available outside and they are fully under cover, but these are for warmer weather. They serve great quality food which is freshly prepared. A varied range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are available. The menu changes here every 4 months, so it gives you plenty of time to eat your favourite pie 🥧 I can honestly say the chips made here are the best I have ever tasted (and I've tasted quite a lot). The menu here is simple and unfussy, so it doesn't make your pie choice difficult. There's also the option of 'take out' pies. You can choose one to take for later (either hot or cold). For a bigger appetite or family, you can take four pies. Take out pies are £2.50 cheaper than they are to eat in. One little thing I think could do with some thought is the external signage. It took me 15 minutes to find the place when I first visited. The main door only has GNPC in big white letters on it. The side door has the full name, but this door has been closed and locked each time I've visited. There is one major issue with this venue. All of the interior is fully accessible, but sadly you have to go down several steps to enter. There is no ramp access available at all, which is such a shame. Hopefully something can be done about this as there is plenty of available exterior space to add a ramp.

The only thing better than the pies here is the service.

Surprisingly good for a place located so close to the station. The staff is extra nice and the place is located in a trendy hipsta loft-style location. Yes , the food is pretty much comfort food, but it was exactly what one needs when it is freezing outside. Prices are more than reasonable.

En un intercambio de idiomas me recomendaron este sitio y estaba deseando probarlo… Aun no me he ido del restaurante y ya estoy aqui escribiendo esta reseña, no he podido esperar ni a marcharme del local… es increible! El local es pequeñito, apenas hay 10 mesas, pero esta muy bien. Las mesas tienen en los bancos calefaccion, lo que hace que estar aqui en invierno sea muy agradable. El personal es explendido, te ayudan a decidir y te explican las cosas despacio para que les entiendas sin problema. Son amables y con una sonrisa en la cara. Ahora los “pies”… la carta es reducida, 4 o 5 por temporada, pero estan muy buenos. Una masa crujiente con un relleno delicioso y una salsa (a parte) muy sabrosa. Puedes acompañarlo con varias cosas, pero en mi caso, he pedido patatas caseras. Si vienes por Manchester y quiere probar el pie… no pierdas la oportunidad de venir aqui. Great North Pie Co in Kampus, Manchester. Bloody brilliant, the food was fantastic and whilst not cheap, it's not too expensive given that it's is high quality food and a nice environment . Well worth a visit if you are into pie. Edit. The gravy tasted just like Christmas. I don't know else to describe it. 😂 The pickled red cabbage was incredible, better than any we have ever had. The cheese and onion pie was beautiful, fantastic shortcrust and top quality cheese filling. The homemade handcut chips were the real deal, amazing. The mash was also great and went so well with the gravy. Really can't fault the food, it was flawless. The dining space itself was very cosy, spotlessly clean and warm. The staff were all young, very friendly and clearly enjoy working there, the customer service was very good.

Excellent pie restaurant very conveniently situated. I had the steak & ale pie which was brim full and very tasty. The cornflake pie dessert was a real throwback to childhood! Portion sizes are just right - filling without leaving you stuffed. Staff are efficient and friendly with a welcoming smile. Our first visit and we will be back. Highly recommended.

Hidden amongst the trees of Kampus, Great North Pie Co is a baked delight. The Lancashire cheese pie rivals anything across the county border and the onion gravy is to die for. I look forward to visiting again!

I absolutely love the Great North Pie Co! The steak pie is so delicious that I keep coming back for the same (so have not tried any of the other delicious sounding pies yet)! I highly recommend the gravy, pickled red cabbage and the heavenly chips. Great value for money and lovely staff - a gem ❤️

Love the great north pie company food and delighted they have opened this little gem. Tucked away in a quiet little spot the restaurant is small but very cosy and comfortable. The food is fantastic with great staff who are very approachable, friendly and helpful. The food is great quality and the chips are easily the best in town, proper old fashioned homemade chips. I had the suet pudding as something different and I was not disappointed. I will be frequenting this place far more than I probably should! With the easy going music and wholesome food it will have you doing your happy food dance in your seat.

I’ve had their pies before and it didn’t disappoint. Went for the lamb suet pudding special. Liked the place and music choices. Would suggest doing some sort of lunch deal as it gets a bit pricey. Mash, peas + gravy are an essential part of the pie, not really a side is it? If it was mash, peas or beans, gravy, pie for £10 that would be decent for lunch. At the moment that would be in the region of £20 which is quite steep for a pie imo..

Pies are majestic here. We took 2 beef pies and mashed potatoes, and we destroyed them in no time. Really worth every penny and more!

Nice place very small. Very small plates does what it says.. pie.. pies was beautiful chips... Hurt my eyes not enough serving dishes very small 40 quid for 2 pie peas chips gravy 2 beers understand it was city center but.. over priced. Serving team lovely polite pleasant just nice. Not a bad place but won't go again.

Visited for take out lunch and the pies are some of the best as I expected from tasting some of their cold pies at various deli shops. Only drawback was a pie, mushy peas and gravy was £12, which I think is on the steep end for lunch - especially the gravy being a £2 extra. If you could do some lunch takeaway deals or specials then I would be visiting everyday!

Wasn’t sure if this was the same company that can be found in Altrincham, because at the time there were no reviews to this location, but I was glad to find out that it is! Best place in Manchester (imho) for pies. I had tried their pies before and was more than happy to taste them again. Highly recommended.

If you want a classic and safe pie without accient or suprise, this is good. Tried the classic cheese and onion, and the beef pie. The pie was standard and good. And the mash was a little bit plain for me. I wish it can have some special or something differential to others in future. Keep up!
