Such a nice and friendly cafe. The breakfast was tasty and cooked to perfection. Ate breakfast here twice during our holiday stay because it's nicer to support a local independent than the hungry horse. The food is tastier too. Also friendly staff and they provide veggie sausages which is always a bonus to me and nice to see! Affordable and in a prime location with a great view. Would be nice to come again if possible

Wonderful, I can’t sing their praises highly enough! My friends and I usually get fish and chips and sit on the beach on my birthday, but this year it was pouring with rain so I phoned the Harbour View café to ask if my friends and I could bring our fish and chips into the café that evening. The owner was only too happy to help and arranged with the chip shop staff to allow us into the café which would be closed by then. When I arrived, the chip shop staff bent over backwards to help. They moved tables to accommodate 10 of us by the window and made sure all my friends knew where we were. They sorted out hot/cold drinks, took our orders and brought us our meals, all plated up. The food was lovely and they were so friendly and helpful and said they were always happy to do this. We had the café all to ourselves from 6 to 8 pm and it made my birthday! I feel very sad that this café has been fighting for its existence over the last number of years. Long may it be there for us!

This little place was recommended by locals and delivered in every way. We were with a large youth group and they went out of their way to accommodate us on the spur of the moment. The cafe may be tatty around the edges but the fish and chips was top notch! Everything was cooked fresh, and the service was excellent, very helpful staff. Prices cheaper than the more upmarket looking places around too! We didn’t need anything else apart from a few coffees but they also had cakes and flapjacks which looked homemade and would have been devoured if I had had any room left!!

Popped in for lunch with my wife & son. My BLT sandwich was OK. The two cheese toasties we ordered were inedible. The cheese tasted funny. The chips had a strange taste too. We left most of what we ordered.

NOT to be confused with the chip shop attached. Been going here for years - best hot chocolate in town and lovely cake too! Great for a pitstop on a brisk walk.

Fantastic breakfast today, great value with good produce and really well cooked. Well worth a visit.

We came here for my birthday lunch and it was utterly awful Very dusty everywhere windows got lots of marks on it They called us up for our order so it felt like it was a truck cafe We won’t be back as it was so poor

Visited Harbour View Cafe for fish and chips. The fish was pretty tasteless and I expect both the fish and the chips were frozen. No visible hygiene rating which I later found out to be 2 out of 5 (requires improvement). Next time I’ll go to the kiosk in the park opposite which was cheaper and had a 5 out of 5 hygiene rating.

Fine for a spot of lunch and to sit outside with good sea views. Looks a bit rundown, has seen better days.

Had great breakfast here was great so big .and value for money. Plus it tasted so good. Wish it wasn't my last day of my holiday.

Do not confuse self service cafe with adjacent fish and chip shop. Cafe has lots of outside seating with sea view. Excellent standard of food and delightful staff /and counter service. Announced when ready. Good value: example: Pot of tea/hot water and china cups or mugs for 2 is only 50p more than single tea in a paper cup from adjacent place.

Disappointing fish and chips from the attached chip shop, Although portions are a decent size, the batter tasted very bland and the chips were of poor quality - lots of "bad" bits on the potato. All is cooked fresh to order, just need to add a bit of flavour!

Inexperienced rude staff serving in the chip shop. We visited this chip shop attached to a cafe and it was the worst experience of customer service I’ve received in a very long time. On ordering the young man on the hill wasn’t listening and handed us the card machine even though the cash was on the counter. We stood where it displayed collection to be barked out by another member of staff to stand outside so we did. On receiving our order he wrapped the food I asked where the peas were to have the receipt slammed on the counter with the response ‘you haven’t ordered peas’ I questioned the slamming on the counter and was told if I wanted peas I was up to go back to the till which at his point was busy. No apology nothing, when the food was handed to me not a word was spoken. I would avoid when in exmouth there are plenty of other chip shops. Rude inexperienced staff who should have a manager on duty with them to at least deliver the basics

The best value fried breakfast I’ve had in a long time. Far better than what local farm shops offer, and the breakfast even includes fried bread. Highly recommended.

Brought some takeaway for the family and were very disappointed with the small portions.. We paid the extra for the large trays which are displayed on the wall. The trays look a decent size but the guy literally put one scoop of chips in. I used to work in a chippy and for the sake of an extra scoop and giving your customers a good portion to keep them happy.. It is just not worth being so skimpy and tight on portions. It's such a shame because the food is actually really nice. Just give people what they pay for and a good portion to keep them happy...

Good food at a sensible price- fabulous views of the harbour. All food and drinks prepared fresh and piping hot. Will definitely be back.

Visited with friends and we were all very pleased. The service was friendly, and the food was great and really good value for money! Will definitely return next time we are in Exmouth.

Poor choice of fish on the menu, only one option at £9 per portion. Chips are extra. Chips were undercooked, greasy and really not great. Portion sizes are at the discretion of the server, I paid extra money for a large portion of chips only to be given the same amount of chips as a the normal potion, when questioned the server shrugged and said it was a large portion. Ordered sausage and chips for the kids and were upgraded to jumbo sausage without being asked, only found out when I looked at the receipt and given the attitude of the people in the shop I really couldn’t be bothered to go back in and argue the toss. Grubby little shop, grubby people serving. Definitely will not be returning.

Ate here at the café a few times while on holiday. Lovely food, reasonable priced. 2 adults, 4 children aged from 2-10. All 6 of us had cooked and with drinks just under £27.

Been coming here for longer than I can remember. Bring your dog, don't dress up, just enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and great, basic food. Better still out of season.

Visited here during the half term. Yes the building is basic but they have been under threat of closure for years so can’t expect money to be spent on the placeKids food portions were very good all our food which was a mixture of fish and chips and breakfast was excellent all very hot

Great for dog owners, but the place is frankly in very poor condition. Food is very poor quality, chairs ripped etc. I think it's being knocked down soon, which shows.

Such a great place, if you've not been check it out - looks out on the beach and welcomes dogs, great cafe food and lovely ambience but best of all is the TOAST - has to be the best anywhere, they put the butter BEFORE giving it to you when the toast is HOT - makes all the difference, has to be the best toast anywhere!

Friendly and helpful staff. Dogs are welcome and it's just a pity that this excellent cafe is going to be destroyed.

There is something about this caf that makes it the best you'll find. I think that they manage to produce exactly what people want at a more-than-acceptable standard without appearing to try at all. The service is quick and efficient, the system anachronistic (but it works so who cares), and the pride of the workforce in getting it right time after time is palpable. Don't let anyone knock this place down!

Ordered a large breakfast with no beans an a tea. Not exactly rocket science. I got 1 an 1/2 pieces of what looked like over cooked bacon but tasted only of salt. 1 small sausage 2 eggs couple of mushrooms an a tomato cut in half. Which wouldn’t of been so bad. Apart from dumped over the top was beans!!!The young lad who served me needs to learn some manners an stop using the word “WHAT” pardon is much more civilised. The building itself is in a stunning location but everything thing inside belongs in a museum. Very dirty an dated. This place is definitely letting Exmouth down.

Good place to stop off on the beach if you've got a dog and need chips. Other than that this place needs a massive refurbishment or replacement with something modern and in keeping with excellent Ocean Bowl opposite and other planned new seafront developments.This site has massive potential with terracing that is literally on the beach.Food poor and dated.Ouside, rubbish blows around between the delapidated patio area and rickety old timber picnic tables.

I can't believe places like this exist still. Dashed in because caught out by rain. should've got wet instead. Staff disinterested, leaning about chatting. tables not cleared. broken and torn chairs with the metalwork rusted and paint peeling. looking around lots of cobwebs by the lights etc. tea in a dirty mug. breakfast was mostly deep fried and of poor quality. cakes wrapped in clingfilm, presumably not fresh. not cheap. far better around.very clear the owners sadly invest nothing and the harbour view is just a aged cash cow . I understand theres been talk of it closing for redevelopment in the future but the condition internally shows no investment for many many yearsa blot and embarrassment on the landscape for our town for visitors using it

Been coming to this cafe for over ten years everytime we visit Exmouth as it's good for a drink and a snack like a bacon sandwich. Always have a hot chocolate in the morning and if it's fine we sit outside looking at the beach etc. Staff always friendly and helpful. Good for families and dog lovers. Good prices etc. Will be a big loss to the area when it goes for redevelopment and we have to pay twice the price to have a cuppa and a breakfast in smarter place.

Fish was fries from frozen, curry sauce and mushy peas from a tin, chips soft and chewy. Don’t come here not even for a joke!

Took my Mum for a pootle along the coast to Exmouth aiming for a cuppa in the warm sunshine before taking her back to the home. At nearly 90 frailty is now showing thro' plus I need a walker to get around. Added to this was a Neuralgia strike as we went in & I had to leave her to return to the car for my pain control tablets etc & took a while to get back inside where we queued for a tea & coffee (doggy decided we were his new best friends) & having paid for the drinks the lady behind the counter immediately offered to carry them out for us. As usual an excellent cup of tea & similar cup of coffee.

nice views of sea but they will be closing for refurb of seafront so another place lost which is a shame as coffee pretty good

Not too clean, lots of rubbish on the floor, not that busy but I still had to clear a table to sit down.

Open to all 364 days a year, right on the excellent Exmouth Beach Very dog friendly and very popular because of this. When ordering at till ticket is issued and wait for your call. A full menu on overhead boards. Quality and quantity are good. Could do with a refurbish as the interior is looking a little tired. Front of beach is being updated and it is believed the View will in the future be included. Excellent meeting point for families and dog owners. Regular visitor coffee and breakfast etc.

It was the perfect place for a New Years Day breakfast and then a walk along the coast in the lovely Devon air.

I last went to this cafe last weekend but I've actually been coming to this cafe in Exmouth for 2 years now. It's great that it's right on the sandy beach and has outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. It's also good that they're dog-friendly indoors as well as outdoors.

Does this place ever close. Even on a grim day it was open. Wow, it was packed, everyone buying fish and chips. Food is very good.

Went there for a coffee an cake, but noticed they did cream teas, ordered 2 but was offered 2 creams scones and a pot of tea for 2 which was cheaper. Lovely scones and tea, really good value for money. Will definitely go back

fancied a cupper called in to the Harbour View , ok it needs a little T.L.C. but the tea is good and the views are great, if this place is closing for good then it will be a shame , as someone has already said they will probably turn it into some kind of God Knows what , most punters just want good grub. at a fair price, good luck to the Harbour view

This cafe is dirty very basic food, food has been on the floor now since we arrived and ordered our food and they haven’t cleaned this up! The food is poor as well! Lovely cream Devon scones and lovely view of harbour and red sandstone cliffs. Teas we're lovely too.

Great traditional cafe. Been coming here for 30+ years. No longer live in Devon yet try to visit this cafe whenever on a visit to family. This cafe holds so many happy memories & I would miss any opportunity to visit. The food is great value &so; much choice. See views fantastic . Would boycott any new FANCY development. This cafe is iconic.

I’ve visited the harbour view several times within the last month, both with and without our dog. It remains my favourite cafe on the sea front: the food is cheap and the portions are generous, the views are beautiful, especially sat outside, and the overall atmosphere is always welcoming, no matter the weather or the state of the dog. It’s not fancy, it is what it is, and if you’re looking for fine dining, the harbour view might not be your first choice. But if you’re looking for a low-priced and delicious hotchocolate, a bit of raspberry flapjack or just a huge plate of chips, you can’t go wrong.

Ordered two medium fish, was asked if we minded having two child's portions as they didn't have anymore fish, agreed as we had already waited a long time, took fish outside and it was inedible, dry hard and very little fish, took it back and the fryer said it had been under the lamp too long! So why did they sell it,? was offered a refund as we weren't going to eat it after he had broken it in half with his fingers!

We visited on a busy weekend in April and had to wait over 30 minutes as it was very busy. The chips were good and most of the fish was being cooked fresh (I think all was). It was reasonably priced given the beachside location.

I ordered a baguette which could have 3 fillings for £4.75 requested bacon and sausage. I kid you not, it arrived with one and half slices of bacon and a reheated sausage cut in half...

We were served frozen fish fillets in crumbs full of some unidentifiable grey substance not fresh fish and hardly edible. It was so embarrassing to have taken friends there and then have to apologise for the food.

I have been visiting this cafe for some 37 years. It is on the beach and is open every day of the year.

I’ve lived in exmouth most of my life and the harbour view is undoubtedly my favourite cafe in town. The views out of the windows and from the outdoor seating area are truly spectacular and there is always a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for dog walkers, families, beach goers and locals alike. It’s a great shame that it is being forced to close soon - the hotchocolates are to die for and will be greatly missed.

we were wanting to visit the chip shop next door that has the reputation of fantastic fish and chips, however looking in the chip shop it like joined to the cafe and we prefered to sit in and eat as it was windy and a bit chilly out.

We visited Exmouth with the dog the other day.

This is a traditional, sea-front, sea side cafe. No frills, inexpensive eats, good quality grub, good portions, good service. What more is there to say? Its got plenty of seating, sells ice cream and all the usual sandwiches, chips, and take away eats. Does good teas and coffees and the usual soft and cold drinks. It does what it says and does it well. Three cheers for tradition!

Stopped for lunch as did not seem to be any other cafes on the seafront. Dreadful building, concrete floor, sand everywhere. People did not seem to know where to queue. Lists of food on the walls. Chose a baggette with sausage, bacon and egg. Very pleasantly surprised, it was lovely, well cooked. Spacious toilets. the building needs knocking down and starting again, but in great position.

good old fashion working cafe on the beach, with good honest food and good prices, we just had a mug and tea and hot chocolate which were great, and the wife had a breakfast baguet with I had a egg and sausage muffin. Its what you see is what you get, They could do with a few more people cleaning tables and stuff, but the food is very honest and good.

Located on the beach road near to the lifeboat station n Exmouth and with great views of the sea. Food is cafe style and is good value. Outside table and chairs. Parking is chargeable close by.

A good haven on a wet and cold day in March. It’s a dog friendly beach side cafe, so you get what you would expect. Good honest fare.

Good range of traditional cafe food including a whole range of different all day breakfasts. The food was good value and priced quite cheaply. Service was helpful and quick.

This beach side café is a little bit tatty to be honest....but we liked this place so much when we dropped in for coffee, we came back for lunch the next day. The fact it was full of locals is a testament to the food and service.

The sign on the door appears to suggest that the Harbour View have a Food Standards Agency rating of "3" but the FSA web-site (which we checked later) indicates a "2" (improvement necessary) as at 9 October 2017. Which is correct we cannot judge but we have never before been in a food establishment where there were more dogs (approx 15) than people. For that reason alone we would never return - but, in any case, the tea / coffee was of poor quality

Went for a late breakfast. Not been for a few years. Beats any fry up around. They just know how cook a great British breakfast without the trendy decor etc.

Although our visit, on this occasion, was only for a coffee and toasted teacake, we could find no fault in the quality or the sevice and the menu for lunch looked excellent too. We will return for sure. With its view to die for, pet friendly, extensive menu and very competitive prices what could there be to fault????

Arriving before 9.00am after a swift drive down the M5 from the Midlands, we were only too ready to consume a substantial English breakfast , served in a very cheerful way, and at a very reasonable price.

The cafe is well positioned with great views of the bay and tables outside and has a varied menu, service is good but the food is bland.

They serve the best chips anywhere but just wish it was tidied up a bit. The toilets are awful and the outside area could be lovely.

We visited the Harbour View Cafe after a family walk on the beach on a cold wet September day. For me it’s what British seaside cafe’s should be. The service was great and very friendly.

Right on the beach front and a seating area out the back to eat and your basically on the beach. The food is lovely. All day breakfast can't really complain. All at a reasonable price. Just a shame that's it's a bit run down. Due to its location it's a bit out dated and definitely could do with a revamp. Otherwise I would probably would of gave it top marks.

The scones today were the very best yet! Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, plenty of fruit. We've signed the new petition...Oh! How we'll miss you when you finally have to close...Why don't they listen!!

I felt like cod and chips, and my wife like scampi and chips. This café was the first we came to. The staff looked glum, except for one pleasant, smiley, helpful girl. You order inside the entrance, get a number ticket, and wait to be called. One or two families left muttering about 'staff attitude'. We stayed. The food was, in fact, pretty good. A little expensive for an uninspiring characterless establishment. But it met the need.

We arrived today for the Devon geo caching mega and heading to exmouth for supplies and some caches. We all agreed on the fresh fish and chips served with bread and butter and yes you could tell the fish is fresh. Good sized potions.! Friendly staff. It may look a little scruffy, but it was clean with great sea views. We will certainly come back when we next visit.

The heading about says it. We had breakfast there once - ok for the money,but no real coffee, only instant. BUT we had fish and chíps from the takeaway several times, and they were really wonderful, excellent value for money. The fish was fresh and moist in a light crispy batter, the chips crisp on the outside and soft inside, with just the right amount of salt and vinegar. WELL DONE!

The harbour view cafe is in a wonderful location with brilliant views of the estuary. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Had the famous five for breakfast and it tasted really nice. The drinks were very refreshing and visited it twice as it was very conveniently postioned right by the seafront. However, the cafe itself is very scruffy and shabby and looked slightly uncared for unfortunately. The outdoor seating area is good for people looking out over the beach but the litter was utterly appalling. Apart from this, it was great.

Went there for lunch today and was most disappointed. Just had hamburger and chips but the hamburger was very thin and completely dried out, the roll was also very dry. There were plenty of chips but I got the impression that they were not freshly cooked, but reheated. My wife had a chicken burger which was no better. We had to leave most of the food. Should have complained at the time, but the youngsters running it looked totally disinterested.

We were orginally going to eat at Exmouth Ocean across the road but after looking at the menu decided to save our money. We spotted this cafe across the road so headed over. It had a large menu choice and we decided it would suit us for what we wanted (lunch time). We ordered a Jacket Potato, toastie and kids chicken nuggets plus drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful. We decided to sit indoors to eat due to the heat (and risk of sunburn). The place is dated but i think it makes it a bit more charming. The food was well cooked and tasted great and total meal cost was the same price as one meal across the road. Overall, lovely place to great a bite to eat whilst visiting the beach.

Visited on a blustery day, still couldn't resist sitting outside virtually on the beach. The food is great huge choice and aimed at filling you up with no pretensions. There is simply such a lovely friendly atmosphere about the Harbour View cafe, I wish I lived nearer and could drop in every day, after a jog along the sands.

Essentially, this is your average beach café, reasonable pricing, ok service, but gorgeous views too! If you go when the light is dimming and sit outside and soak in the atmosphere you won't believe you're in England let alone Devon!
