We are staying down the road in a cottage and came in on Saturday 10th August and was really impressed by the food and service after just turning up with 8 of us. We came back on Wednesday 14th August and had booked this time Bob had asked if we would pre order and was more than happy to do so. I had the faggots and my god honestly incredible a few other guests were very jealous but really enjoyed their food. Would definitely return here if in the area. Thank you Bob & Jenny both are doing an incredible job and wish you all the success!

Lovely, lovely country pub with great home-cooked food, prepared and presented beautifully - the scampi and chips was delicious, also the Eton mess. So nice to meet a friendly landlord who welcomed our dogs! We were staying in a cottage over the field and visited on a Monday night (when most other country pubs seem to close) Beautiful garden, so peaceful, just what a country pub should be...

Where to begin… what a hidden gem in the most beautiful setting. Bob and Jenny could not be more welcoming. I visited this afternoon with 5 girlfriends for lunch, The food was absolutely delicious (go for the pies!) and Bob was the perfect host, going the extra mile to make our visit really enjoyable, one of my friends picked her own eggs for her ham, egg and chips and everything is home cooked from scratch and it really shows. Bob even wrote out directions for us to find our way back to our holiday house! Thank you Bob and Jenny, you made our day! X

Visited this great little pub during a half term holiday in nearby Salwayash. The pub is in a beautiful location overlooking some beautiful Dorset views; the Landlord is very friendly; the local Palmers beer, delicious; and the home cooked food, very tasty. I hope it’s paying a compliment by saying that the meals were the perfect size to make you feel full but not stuffed. Too often you visit places that overfill your plate: the Hare and Hounds chooses hearty dinners at manageable sizes. The choice was varied (got to love a place that served faggots), the food tasty and we’ve already booked to visit again. Thank you

Whilst staying at nearby Pineapple Farm Estate we ate at the pub twice and are so glad that we did. It's good honest home-cooked pub grub at very reasonable prices and the selection of drinks on offer are great and again very reasonable. My husband particularly enjoyed the Dorset Gold beer.Rob the owner is quite a character and very welcoming and we had a lovely chat with him and also the lady behind the bar who, it turned out,had a lot in common with us in terms of where we live etc - such a small world! The pub is dog-friendly which is great, although it also has a room for people to dine in if they prefer not to have dogs around which is also great, plus there is a great garden area for those who want to sit outside.I always judge a pub/restaurant on their loos and the ones at the Hare & Hounds were spotless with plenty of anti-bac soap, hand-gel and also hand cream which is always a nice touch. We are already planning our next trip back to Dorset and we'll definitely be paying the Hare & Hounds a visit or two.Thank you for making us so welcome.

Place was closed when we went on a Friday evening. Asking around it appears that the tenants of under two years have quit. I’m not surprised that they didn’t make a go of it tbh. Whenever we went the wait for basic food was way too long, the once lovely garden had been left untended and the place had an overwhelming sense of fatigue. The place could be, and once was, a gem. But the recent incumbents made nothing of its good points - the garden and view. Their social media posts were as rare as hens teeth and even then were not enticing. The website was still the one for the previous tenants so was not accurate in any way (menu and opening times were incorrect). Other local pubs diversified and put themselves out to retain and gain trade during the Covid pandemic but this one did nothing like that ). I hope this place reopens but taking a pub on from landlords who have run it down to the point of closure is a hard task in these difficult times so I fear it may be the end of the road for the H&H. It’s hard to rate food etc on our visit because we didn’t/couldn’t have any food as it was closed up so I have rated food etc on our previous visit there a month or so earlier

Avoid. Have pizza delivered or tend your toenails instead. An absolute travesty and stain on the hospitality industry. A public house that should not be allowed to exist. The only venue I have walked out in the last 20 years. Hugely embarrassing for my guests and me. Despite having booked, our table was not ready. And never became ready. Bar service was slow in the extreme. General politeness and professionalism were nowhere to be seen. I cannot comment on the food as one hour after our booking, the table was still not ready so we left. This place could be great. The entire venue needs a change of owners, staff and a reminder of the core principles that should underpin the hospitality industry. Avoid at all costs and consider making a sandwich instead.

Visited last week while staying locally after lockdown and although didn't get to sample the food, the wine was very good value for money. A bottle of Pinot Grigio only set us back £14 and it was nice and light. We visited twice and on the second visit the pub was closed but the kind landlord opened for us and served us a drink in their lovely beer garden overlooking the Dorset countryside. We enjoyed meeting their dogs and fellow chickens and hope they get lots of custom after lockdown so that we can visit again next time we are down this way. All in all, I would recommend this pub based on the cheerful welcome from the landlord, the beautiful setting and what seemed like good value for money.

The only draw back to the evening was when the people from the table next to us went to pay and wanted some money knocked off their bill. One of the party was a barrack room lawyer who kept saying that there was a law that said if you did not like your food you did not have to pay.(Anyone heard of this Law?)They also said that they were local .I also thought that if you had a complaint about your meal you would not eat it and complain before you went to pay.

Despite their website saying they are open from 6pm they were closed last evening at just gone 7pm. Garden looked a bit of an overgrown mess, certainly not how it used to be here. It used to be so well kept, mown nicely and lots of colourful plants and flowers, Such a shame. Upon investigation today I found out that the landlords have moved to another pub in the area and are supposedly keeping this one going too until new tenants are found, however from my visit it would appear that this is not the case. Or if it is then they aren’t putting much effort into the Hare and Hounds any more. There was a steady flow a people coming and going through the week , depending on what night it was in the pie night , fish night Tec. By the end of the week we felt like we were one of the locals ourselves. Unfortunately living at the other end of the country means we can't be one of the locals and envy those who live in this beautiful part of the world . so thanks to Steve and his wife for their hospitality and the Welsh guy who sits in there sometimes with his awful jokes .

Lovely food and good staff, the roast dinner was very good, as was the choice in ambient music. Seems a very nice family business. Only downside is that the decor is a little dated and feels a little "self service" getting menus to read, finding your table and placing your order which was a little odd but would definitely go back if we stayed there again. An unspoilt country pub with a large garden with beautiful views over Dorset countryside. Straightforward pub grub but both my gammon and my wife's ham were delicious. Prices for all the food were extremely reasonable. Service was very friendly Although did seem a bit stretched at times!

This was our first venue of a two week holiday. We could not have had a better welcome, warm, friendly and a bit of banter with the locals.

A lovely pub with great atmosphere, staff and owners. The best Sunday roast we've had for a long time. Very pet friendly, with garden and wonderful views. Made to feel very welcome and definitely returning.

The Hare and Hounds is a lovely pub, perfect in the summer to sit out in the garden or cosy in the winter to sit inside near the fire. The landlords are lovely, and always smiling and happy to help. I strongly recommend a visit to the lovely country pub.

This delightful pub was recommended by a fisherman at West Bay. Very friendly Landlord and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was second to none and although it will be a bit of a journey from Poole; we will return. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment as the dining area is quite small. Highly recommended.

First time we have been here and what a lovely friendly pub very welcoming and very clean best to book for a meal as quite small inside but if it’s a lovely evening then they have a great beer garden and families welcome the landlord is very friendly too ... lovely menu great choices for starters and mains and they also tell u what is gluten free etc . The ladies toilets were so clean and also have lovely towels and lotion for hands . Also they have a car park

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Hare & Hounds. We are visiting from New Zealand and I remember coming to this pub on my first ever trip to England 15 years ago when I was a kid. Well, it hasn't changed much since then - lovely view over the countryside and delicious food. Totally unpretentious - it had a friendly laid back atmosphere. Often places don't live up to nostalgia but this place really did. We had and loved the Steak & Ale / Fish pies.

We turned up quite late and were pleasantly met and told that we could still order food. We both had a nice Palmer's Gold and a half of Copper. I noticed the Cask Mark Certificate. The beer was very good. We had just a starter and a bowl of chips, because of the time. The Garlic Mushrooms on toast were possibly the best I've ever had and the cheesy shoestring chips were really very good. We were able to sit outside and when we went inside, the bar had a good atmosphere. We had spoken to the owner whilst waiting for our food as she arrived and she was chatting to the regulars when I paid the bill. A really good pub experience and the gardens are being restored and have excellent views

Small local pub, very welcoming, great beer garden. Had steak pie, chips and veg and wondered how they managed to get so much meat into the pie! Delicious. Partner had lasagne, chips and salad - again very meaty and much nicer than the one she had at a pub near Dorchester recently which cost nearly 50% more than the Hare and Hounds one did. Waited quite a while for the food but it was worth it and we weren't in a rush anyway. Will come back here again soon.

The landlord today served me the most delicious coffee. The best coffee I have had this year. The pub was fantastic. Lovely decor and spotlessly clean. I look forward to visiting again soon.

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

Sunday lunch was not very good. Waiter ate food and drank at the bar constantly. Emptied bins and didn't wash his hands. Chef sat at the bar in between orders. Food arrived and was tasteless, meat tough and when asked for cranberry sauce the waiter arrived with a plastic tub to serve it!
