Harpers in Bromley

We have been to Harpers for many years now and returned again Sunday as we enjoy the atmosphere and the food. We usually attend on a Sunday as kids eat free with adult meal purchased or so we thought. Having found it written on the menu in very fine print we ordered only to be told they are no longer offering this deal.

We visited Harpers on Sunday for a roast dinner. Presentation and taste of our food was good however all our meals were served up lukewarm which spoilt the experience.

Although Harpers was busy the food was very tasty, the service was spot on and there was an enjoyable atmosphere with several birthday celebrations taking place.

Great food & managed a large party brilliantly. Definitely recommend.

A lovely local restaurant. Good choice of daily set menu or a la carte. We've visited Harpers 3 times now and the staff have always been delightful and helpful, with a good knowledge of dietary issues. Would recommend it, without hesitation, to anyone.

Very poor service , extremely long wait for our food , we didn’t get asked if we wanted more drinks, or if we were happy with our food , staff were not friendly barley showed any interest,would not go back , we have been quite a few times and enjoyed it , but this visit will be our last.

Excellent service, interesting and varied choices of foods, good atmosphere and a wonderful start to the New Year. Staff were very friendly and appeared to be enjoying the 'festivities'

Visted a few times last couple months and by and large each party stuck to the set lunch menu one of which was the festive one. Food is very nice and excellent value .Am sure when occasion arises will return for an evening visit and explore full menu. Our one complaint would be on this weeks visit, to be be fair a very cold day, the restaurant became progessively colder . I appreciate heating costs but that day was it did become quite uncomfortable otherwise we may have stayed on for a coffee and drink and longer chat.

The food was fantastic as usual especially the pork belly highly recommended the only issue with the food was the vanilla ice cream it doesn't seem to taste of much which is a shame and the only other issue we had was not being told when we booked the table we only had 2 hours to order and eat our food then had to leave because it was new years eve which when you have spent £140 it would have been nice to be able to relax for a bit .

Went in for the Christmas festive menu for 5 of us. Food was delicious and price was very reasonable. Lovely Christmas decor and atmosphere. Servers were polite and friendly. Restaurant was busy and staff were occupied quite a lot with large parties and so weren’t as attentive (only asked if we wanted more drinks once and no coffee offered at the end of the meal). But had an enjoyable evening and would recommend

We had a lovely lunch, as part of the set menu. Food was spot on. Marked down on the service because the waitress was sniggering at my friend and somewhat odd in her approach. X

A quiet meal with my grandson Jack and his gf Ella, to belatedly celebrate her birthday. It wasn’t exactly quiet, the place was full and buzzing, which created a great atmosphere. Food was good, as always. Service was fine, and a pleasant time was had. We will be back soon.

We had a wonderful meal on Sunday, service was a bit slow but staff came to explain there was a technical issue with the till system. I also didn’t get my yourshire pudding, I’m sure they would of got me one but I didn’t ask and we soon forgot about this as they had magnificent entertainment with a magician who done magic tricks at the table. It was a lovely evening and we all left with full belly’s and lovely memories.

Turkey roast was really good. The roast potatoes are just like you would cook them at home. The Festive Menu has some great options. Had a good meal. Thank you.

For the second year running, we chose this restaurant as a venue for our camera club's Christmas Dinner and we were quite happy with our choice. The food, service and ambience were all quite good and we had a pleasant evening. So, all good!

Lovely meal last night, great value for money from the neighbourhood menu. Will be back soon.

Stuffing was cold and uncooked which resulted in getting very upset stomach and turkey seemed to be or packed as on the plate it came out squared shape

We had a great overall experience at Harpers. The food was excellent, served in a timely manner, and the staff were very friendly, helpful and inviting.

Amazing food and service as always. We regular attend as a family but this year for our lads Christmas lunch we chose to stay local instead of heading to London. We were not disappointed and the 9 of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you and see you soon.

There was a mix up with the number of diners (our parties' fault..not theirs!!) but the staff went above and beyond to sort this out for us. The manager was top notch. Staff were attentive without being over the top. Food was excellent too...good sized portions. Would have been nice to have had some christmasy music in the background .

Had a lovely group dinner here. Staff were super-helpful and accommodating, especially with members of our group with allergies/food intolerances. Lots of gluten free options. Really lovely atmosphere and setting. Will definitely be returning.

Great service, delicious starters and I liked my steak, but my partner said the pork belly was not great and the new potatoes were undercooked. Also quite expensive for what it is

Had a lovely Sunday roast with the family to celebrate my mums 80th birthday. Food was lovely and the magician was a nice touch . Have been several times before and will continue to visit.

Just returned home to Essex from Harpers in West Wickham Kent. First visit and was blown away by the amazing service food and entertainment. Firstly a huge thank you to Hope for the wonderful welcome and service. Your friendliness , professionalism, and care from ordering our food until we left was excellent. The food was the best Turkey Roast I have eaten in any restaurant. Presentation and portion size was exceptional. Another big thank you goes to the table magician, you blew my socks off. I have never seen tricks that baffled me so much. Your close up magic is first class and was truly amazing. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant and will be recommending to family and friends. What a team ! Merry Christmas to you all 👏👏👏🎄

Food was amazing and the staff were so friendly and couldn’t do more for you. Jamie the magician was so engaging and incredible at what he does. Lovely added touch to a catch up with friends. 100% recommend booking on a Sunday when Jamie is at the restaurant :)

We had dinner in October and the roast was so good I couldn’t wait to go back. My daughter had a lovely roast too, great size for a kids meal and as she is 10 she ate free. Today we went back as we knew that the magician Jamie Daws was there and had heard he was great. I was impressed with his magic, my daughter was blown away by his tricks and we will definitely going back. The entertainment today made dinner even more fun

Great Saturday lunch, big menu and was surprised with the generous portions. fresh and hot and very attentive service by the staff. Definitely booking again

Have been coming for years normally evenings but had a fabulous saturday lunch with old fashioned Harvey Wallbanger and Bloody Mary cocktails- lunch menu which was excellent value - cant recommend enough for every occasion - well done all x

Wednesday early evening one other table occupied! Food comes up within minutes it can’t possibly be cooked fresh and forgot the sides! We were made to feel like they wanted to close so we paid and left £50 worse off!

Staff fantastic. Atmosphere really comfortable. Food lovely. Great service. There were 16 of us and we were taken care of and served at our pace. Very nice people.

Excellent quality food with friendly professional service

As always great food and efficient friendly service. The liver and bacon was excellent as was the chicken pesto pasta. The one thing I personally think needs attention is the upholstery on the long banquette opposite the bar. After many years of wear it is now heavily stained and could do with a refurb. This is a class restaurant.

Got to sort out the sticky door on the exterior side of the men's toilet, where the paint/varnish has de-natured!

So we turned up for a roast not realising they had the magician…. First of all, the food is excellent. I had beef roast and it was perfect. They seem to do a few of these nights and Jamie Daws was excellent- very clever and the magic was superb. Not something that I would usually go for but it certainly added something! Fully recommend

I have dined here before and the food was nice but after visiting the restaurant recently it was very disappointing. The service was not really up to scratch and long waiting time in between courses plus a mix up with the one of the orders. The food was below par and not very enjoyable at all. Not sure I will be going back

Lovely afternoon having lunch at Harpers. I came here 4 years ago with my sister, and returned today with a friend. We had a lovely lunch with fruit punch mocktails and a pina colada, which my friend said was exquisite! We had the king prawns and the tempura prawns for starters. We then had beef burgers and chunky chips for the mains. Really good food and lovely service. Thank you, I'll be back in the near future.

All good appears to have been frozen, overpriced rubbish. The hype from the owners does not accurately describe the menu, service or quality.

Had a lovely meal the other month today was awful, the food was too quick coming out definitely microwaved so disappointed. If you cannot serve fresh food please don’t bother it’s not cheap to eat out it’s a special time so very disappointing

Like food and like to try new places one to keep an eye out for had a stake and chips yummm was cooked exactly how I liked it and had good flavours and not one ounce if fat or grissle also had the biscoffe cheesecake with ice cream sweet but worth it staff are attentive so had a good meal definitely going to come back

We're very new to the area and thought we'd give Harpers a try. We were incredibly impressed by the food, the lovely atmosphere and the outstanding service. The place was very buzzy and seems like it will be a regular haunt for us. Great stuff Harpers!

Went Weds at 530 only one other table Waitress was friendly but on her own. Had the set menu. Starters came out quickly the goat cheese was good. Chicken pesto pasta was horrible. Chicken very dry and overcooked. Pasta tasteless. Pesto disgusting. Waited a long time to get the bill. Understaffed. Not great value for money this time.

Update July 2024 - another nice meal but unfortunately service was pretty slow and not very attentive. Really lovely Sunday Lunch excellent Roast, but full menu also available and nice atmosphere.

Absolutely amazing, this is how to do it. Great food, lovely atmosphere and staff professional and attentive. Why don’t usually enjoy cocktails but these were beautifully presented,tasty and will definitely be having more.

Best meal I have had in a long time excellent!

Was disappointed with my visit this time we found the food tasteless, I had hummus to start which has no taste at all,also had calamari that was ok for main I had sea-bass and my husband had fish too very bland food, The drinks were very good it was a thirsty Thursday so drinks were reduced all in all the bill was just over £100 and it was definitely not worth it I won’t be returning.

Food was very good as was the service. Only. problem was on a Sunday lunch it was noisy. Would recommend though.

Met a friend here for dinner and a catch up. The service was very friendly and we were not rushed at all. The food was excellent. We had the Lamb bourguignon and the Liver and Bacon both cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. I did feel the portion sizes could have been a little bigger but other than that a very enjoyable evening.

Well done! Arranged a meal for 18 people on 20th April for a 70th Birthday. Food was excellent, well timed and well presented. Staff were polite, attentive and special thanks to Hannah for her help and attentiveness, she was very professional and helped to ease my anxiety of it all going wrong for the birthday girl. Also special thanks to the gentleman who bravely cut the cake (a daunting task, for such a tall and well decorated cake) you cut it better than we would have done!!!!

Came here for a lovely family meal last week ! The food was great and they have just brought out their new menu (I especially liked the chicken pesto pasta.) The service was amazing, very friendly staff and also great cocktails :)

i came here with my girlfriend and the service was really quick and the waitress/waiters were very welcoming and friendly. the food and drinks were really delicious and the wait for the food wasnt long at all. the decorations and atmosphere in there is really nice and they have a good selection of food on their new menu. would highly recommend.

I had an amazing experience today at harpers I tired their special today they are serving lamb cutlets and it was just delicious with the rosemary roast potatoes along with a cheeky desert of lemon pie, the waiters service was very good made sure everything was okay with my food and always kept me topped up with drinks will definitely be coming back

We ordered chips with our meal, when they come the chips was cooked on outside but not in the middle.

They have a new menu which was excellent , service as usual was also excellent , it was busy for lunch time but food was fabulous

I had a tempuri king prawns starter and rigatoni bolognese main. I enjoyed it very much at the time and then a few hours later i started to feel a bit ill. I had not eaten breakfast on this day and had eaten nothing since. Around 5 hours later i threw up, which was the first non alcohol induced vomit i had done in 15 years. Avoid these menu items if you value your stomach. Otherwise a decent place. Edit: i later threw up a further 3 times an hour later and had horrible diarrhea, do not buy or consume the shrimp here Response: Hello, many thanks for your response. I believe the record of communication regarding this matter is this here review, I am unsure how else you want me to contact you regarding this experience as I clearly did not seek reparations or my money back, simply to inform the public as to my experience on a public forum. I could have reached out privately perhaps but I wish simply to put this experience behind me and contribute to public wellbeing. I can't really be more specific about my experience beyond telling you the only two dishes I ate and the date at which I ate them, but I was in the restaurant from 13:13 to 14:48 on the day of my initial review. I'm sure your other reviewers had a lovely time and I'm pleased to see no one else suffered as I did from the dishes I ate, but as you can see I left 5 star reviews for atmosphere and service, so I am not out to simply tarnish the name of your restaurant but leave an informative account of my experience. I appreciate your offer to reach out directly but feel it would be an insult to the public health not to leave this warning. My review was nothing if not genuine, and I sincerely hope it was an isolated incident. If you still doubt my words or, god forbid, my integrity, then I can attach a photo of my still-vomit-splattered boots, as they are still unfortunately stained with the food I ate at this restaurant. Nice food and friendly staff, owners are very nice and manager Andre is so friendly. Restaurant is trendy and cosy with nice decor and always nice atmosphere.

Had the lunchtime menu. There was a good choice. I had carrot and coriander soup which was thick and hot and very tasty. Ribs and fries were good. Ribs were meaty. Then a scrumptious cheesecake for dessert. Reasonable prices. The staff are very pleasant and attentive. The restaurant was busy, nicely decorated.

We had our Christmas party here and the restaurant accommodated all eighteen of our Meetup group. The cosmo cocktail I had on arrival was well done and the food and wine was good.

As regular customers of Harpers, my family and our friends are always impressed by the consistently superb level of customer care, quality of food and wonderful ambience that Ali and Jimmy have created. The character and atmosphere of Harpers balances a combination of welcoming and warm family restaurant with modern recipes and the occasional traditional classic. Whether it’s been a New Years Eve celebration night, a large group gathering or a simple evening meal, Harpers has demonstrated on every occasion to be the perfect venue.

Don’t go here if you have an allergy or intolerance. I went to Harpers for New Year and paid 75 pounds a person. I spoke to the waitress about my serious intolerance to paprika. She told me it was on the calamari but I could have it plain. When the food was brought to the table I was given my meal by a different person. I started eating it and to my horror saw it had paprika all over it. I spoke to the waitress and told her and she told me I had the wrong one. My husband had been given mine. However it was too late I had eaten some of the paprika. I was very unwell the next day when the intolerance kicked in. I phoned the owner and explained how unwell I was, only to be told it was my fault as I should have noticed it wasn’t plain. This really upset me especially after spending in excess of 200 pounds for me and my husband I will not be returning. Such a silly mistake that should never have been made.

Attended this restaurant yesterday evening with my wife to celebrate New Year, she was given a dish that she had asked for to contain no Paprika, the starter was placed in front of her and she started to eat, very quickly realising it had Paprika, it was quickly changed but the harm was done. She has been up all night ill as she has a intolerance to Paprika, contacted the manager this morning and was told it's my wife's fault as she should have checked before she started eating and started to question her condition and integrity and was very abrupt, she came off the phone in tears struggling to believe the arrogance of the owner, completely washed his hands of the situation

Outstanding Christmas Day the meal Was outstanding staff very attentive and attractive yes Harpers’s is not cheap and not over expensive but the whole meal was just wonderful I can’t find any negative of our experience. Will I return you bet I’m already planning for next year. Harpers 10/10 Thank you

Disappointing - always love it there but today I chose the Fish Pie so very very hot couldn’t eat it out of the dish - very watery mashed potato mainly Salmon not much else and far too salty. Such a shame as I was with a large group on my recommendation!

Another enjoyable visit to Harpers. It doesn't disappoint. Lovely place with great food and good cocktails. Have visited in the past with both family and friends and am already looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommend.

Overall good food in pleasant surroundings. Was a bit quiet at 5pm on a Friday as you'd expect, so atmosphere was rather subdued and waiting staff over zealous in clearing our table which meant we were in and out fairly fast. We were looking forward to a relaxing meal before a walk home but it felt a bit like a fast food experience. Decent burger and fries, although cannot understand why a burger is served on its own on a large plate and then fries and coleslaw are brought separately, does not create such an appealing effect. Have enjoyed their steak nights here previously. Nice people here and it is a quality establishment, so perhaps just an off night.

Great menu and fantastic service

Wonderful service, food (we had a roast this time, wow proper roasties!), ambience and definitely the cocktails are a must. Been here a few times now and have never been disappointed. Particular applause to Louise. All the staff (and there's a big team, so you're never left waiting) were wonderful, but Louise deserves an extra mention. She even got our super shy young son to beam straight off. We've tried the lunchtime menus and dinner menus and always gorgeous. Oh and little ones eat free on a Sunday afternoon! Go Harpers, bravo 😊

Friendly, patient, helpful staff

The food is good, although nothing special or better than other local restaurants. However, great atmosphere and service. I had to take a star off as unfortunately there were some annoying flies going around that really distracts from the meal, and don’t seem to hygienic. I appreciate the owner knows about this and they are on the issue. I hope it gets sorted soon and I will edit my review !

Our latest visit on a busy weekday night, yielded sausage and meatball starters, a fine liver main and fish and (slightly disappointing) chips. Kir was great and unafraid of the cassis. Our server admitted that the restaurant was a lot busier than expected which may have accounted for slow arrival of starters. The volume of chatter was notable. Staff friendly and helpful as ever.

One of my fav places to eat! Great price and great food! Staff lovely, and service always very good.
