Hourglass Coffee in Hackney

Best coffee around the area. Very friendly staff and great music selection! Oh they have absolutely stunning icecream now, probably the best I have tried in London (and I have tried a lot!!)

I get my coconut latte here everyday. I've had coffee from other places, but it's never as good as the coffee from Hourglass. The service is second to none, the friendliest staff, that really go out of their way to please. I'm SO lucky to have this coffee shop on my doorstep.

I have been a regular customer since the shop opened and whilst I always enjoy my time there it’s a bit hard to justify becoming a frequent visitor I understand the need for a cashless system during a pandemic but now I’m not so sure it’s a good idea now that things have open up plus the price point for what you get gives a bit of a stuffy exclusive feel to a venue that should be a community asset id love to say you get what you pay for but sadly that’s not quite the case

I don’t normally review places but I felt it is important to challenge this cafe for their discriminatory practices against disabled people. I have been refused service for not being able to wear a mask due to my disability. I went to buy a takeaway coffee from this cafe. They asked me about the mask and I explained that I was exempt. They then asked me to wait outside to pay for my coffee when those who were fortunate enough not to be disabled were not asked to wait outside. I pulled them up on this by pointing out that this constitutes discrimination under the equality act 2020. They didn’t like it that someone was challenging them so asked me to leave as they said hey refuse to serve me , ostensibly, for being disabled enough not to wear a mask. Only this discrimination is unacceptable and disgusting but it also violates the equality act. I have naturally reported this to the Equality Advisory Service immediately. Please do not let people like this get away with their discrimination against disabled people. We don’t choose to be disabled . I have been getting my coffee from here since I moved into the area over a year ago and it has been a little gem getting me through lockdown. Staff always friendly and polite and the coffee always tastes really great. They've put really great measures in to stay COVID safe and I look forward to them being able to open more fully some time soon!
