Il Piatto bar & restaurant in Scarborough

We have just had the worst experience at this restaurant. My husband took me out for a special meal, when the bill arrived, we had been charged for a bottle of Prosecco, which we did not have. Instead of the waitress recognising her mistake, she became angry and rude. We left the restaurant having to pay for the £10 bottle we had not had, feeling ripped off and determined not to return. Looking at the reviews, it seems this same waitress/ owner refutes any negative review with her own damning comments, so unprofessional. Avoid this place at all costs.

Amazing little find. Great service, good choice of food and drinks and reasonable prices. Not advertised but they are dog friendly (if they have the space and they're quiet and sit under the tables!)

A fabulous little restaurant with wonderful food. The service was excellent and nothing too much trouble. They even allowed us in with our little dog. It is so hard to find an Italian restaurant that will accommodate dogs and owners. Thank you for allowing us in.

Popped in here randomly on a Sunday night and what a great place! Pasta was delicious and very fresh. Best Italian I've been to in a long time!

After being let down by the Lounge at Palm Court we were running out of time to eat before a show we were going to. We found this excellent little restaurant quite by chance and advised we only had an hour - they replied to advise they would do their best but no promises - fair enough! They sat us down with menus sorted out drinks promptly and by the time they came back we were ready 4 different meals and a stress free chat until our excellent food arrived. Even though the restaurant was fast filling we were able to relax (the staff were not as fortunate) the staff were attentive, very efficient and tge food excellent. Would highly recommend service with a smile

Food ok….service ok… floor was filthy (dusty) seats had crumbs on, toilets dirty! Wife found a sanitary towel left on the bin. Cutlery had hard left over food on. Very expensive!

Overall the worst Italian I have had, the service was dreadfully slow and the food apparently a new menu 🤢. Everything is doused in tomato sauce to clearly hide the bad food I would not recommend this place or return. Response to the owner I know actual Italian food as I've eaten in better restaurants then this and I've been to Italy twice and you need criticism per your responses to other bad reviews. If the staff bothered to ask me how the meal was you would have got the response to your face but your staff must also know the food is rubbish so don't bother asking people.

My partner and I visited last weekend on a Saturday evening 8.30 ish. First impressions were positive, clean light and cute details like some coat hooks on the wall for your coat. We were seated by a lovely lady. While waiting for our order to be taken we noticed that infact she was on her own serving several tables, and boy can that lady move. We placed orders and promptly got drinks followed by piping hot food a while after. Now this food is no Michelin star but if you want pure omg comfort food ( pasta and meatballs was my choice) then yes this is the place!! We even saw another table get severed the garlic bread, (rolled pizza base filled with cheese onions and loaded with garlic oil) we just had to order that too. Absolutely reasonable priced. I left a very happy customer and will definitely visit again

Service took ages, I feel as thou I've aged 10 years. Started took nearly 40 minutes from ordering to come. Main was swimming in sauce, far too much, veg was cold and the sauce had formed a thin skin layer on it so it has obviously stood somewhere for time. Got the bill paid fast thou. Overall won't be back, Tuscany too was far better when that was open. We a really tried to cancel the main as we were sick of waiting but coincidentally it was nearly all ready. Not good, not recommended and far better elsewhere.

Pear and goats cheese pizza was gorgeous. My friends enjoyed their pizza and pasta dishes too. Staff were so helpful and friendly with excellent service. Really impressed.

I think this place was the best value for money around!!!.. the quality of the food 🥘 is extremely good!.. service was fantastic ( especially the lovely Thai lady) she went above and beyond last night serving us’ and the evening before !!! Simply awful place, chef that can't cook anything and service with an attitude, no doubt this will also get removed for telling the truth!!!! Walked out before main course it was that bad, undercooked inedible food!, also take some wet wipes as the tables are sticky, yuk, served warm rose wine asked 3 times for ice ended up going to the bar myself to get some!!! Cracking service!!! Oh and by the way the owner purchases 5 star reviews on trip advisor to make him look better then it is! If it's not 5 stars it gets removed. If I could give zero stars i would!!!!!!! JUST TO UPDATE!!!!! This really unprofessional owner decided on March 14th to go to my workplace 60 miles away from the restaurant to seek my home address, I mean wow!!! In the words you use "it will be on cctv" , I also have the original emails you sent to me but I won't post them on here as I'm not like that! Instead of trying to find me and wasting time get yourself to a cookery course! Or maybe a special hospital to sort your sad little Italian attitude out! NOW YOU THINK I SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO WORK AFTER LEAVING A RESTAURANT REVIEW, LAUGHABLE!!!! Oh bless now threatening with emijos on the response, yet more things to go against you Ps..your responses on poor reviews are disgusting, not professional behavior, your attitude to customers needs sorting out, you cannot email and text them for leaving a review

Vinimos aquí para cenar una noche. La comida era agradable y los precios eran razonables, pero hubo un par de errores que lo decepcionaron. En primer lugar nunca llegó una bebida, así que tuvimos que hacerlo de nuevo y luego cuando llegaron los platos principales, a la pizza le faltaba uno de sus ingredientes especificados. Las dos veces el personal fue muy disculpado y lo rectificó, pero fue un poco decepcionante, especialmente cuando éramos los únicos en así que no es como si estuvieran cometiendo errores porque estaba ocupado.

Omg we was staying in the apartment opposite the restraunt and the smells coming from here was dreamy. On the 2nd night we decided had to try . My partner went over to collect we ordered filetto di manzo con patate 4oz for our selves and 2 pizzas for the children. All DELICIOUS absolutely DELICIOUS ! 5* recommend staff great clean place and the best food

Visited recently with family and had a great dining experience. We were a party of 11 which is a large amount of diners to produce dishes hot, well presented and delicious. Many thanks to the Chef. The lady who served us was a delight, professional and warm and friendly. We will certainly return in the near future and would highly recommend.

The staff are lovely, cheerful and knowledgeable about the menu. The wine is fairly priced. The prawn in buratta cream was different and really nice. The meat feast pizza and goats cheese with caramelised onions were stunning. The quality of ingredients was outstanding. The sausage on the meat feast was excellent- the fennel in it was delicious. We have now found our new ‘go to’ when we stay in Scarborough 😊

The waitress was working so hard on her own taking orders getting people to tables serving drinks and food and everything was absolutely beautiful would highly recommend this place x

Overated and bland expensive food 😡 looked at the good reviews but our experience was bland over expensive food , got the salmon and prawn pasta no taste no seasoning with whole garlic cloves in which made it bitter who wants 6 full garlic pieces in got a mouthful and had to spit it out bitter and horrible , just cream in the sauce totally bland , my husband got pizza no tomato on base just tomato puree which was obviously straight from a tube , Italian don't think so , also pizza bitter and horrible hardly no cheese or chicken on , totally disappointed and a waste of money , very very poor .

We visited this restaurant two years ago when visiting Scarborough. It was excellent so we chose to book again when in Scarborough for a concert. Staff friendly & efficient. We both chose fillet steak with peppercorn sauce, it was fabulous!!! The puddings we shared were very good too ( Tiramisu & Apple Strudel). It was so good my husband went to let the chef know Highly recommend a visit.

Ate there this evening and it was totally wonderful. The food was perfect particularly the bruschetta sharing plate. It was busy, lively yet the serving staff were a delight. Excellent value for money. We can't recommend it enough and we shall certainly eat here again when next in Scarborough.

Service was very good but below par food for the price. The risotto was especially bad. I wouldn't visit again.

I have no photos - would only be of empty platters/plates/boards. The food is excellent & the service was as good as could be when 2 people had rung in sick on a Saturday! The staff managed & I do feel guilty putting service at 3 stars but equally it wasn't our fault either! I think everyone understood & were patient & as such the atmosphere was great - a really good buzz about the place, with people being asked to come back later once the crowd had died down. Well worth the wait - I had the Meat Feast pizza (without chillies - thank goodness that's an option 😜) & it went down very quickly & was really tasty. Cannot thank the staff enough but a 5 for service wouldn't be right. Give it a go - food really is very tasty; that's not just the message from our table, every other table said the same!

Instead of replying to reviews in an unprofessional tone your time would be better served on a customer service course !! The service in here is beyond shocking don’t bother spending your money here. The couple beside us yesterday complained to the server about the pricing for their pasta and pizza and were laughed at. Rude rude rude small portions and overpriced drinks avoid

Dropped in this restaurant by chance with work colleagues, this is a great Italian restaurant which is incredibly authentic (I’ve spent a lot of time in Italy). The Burrata starter was probably the best I’ve ever had, and I always go for the carbonara at any new Italian I go to, again superb. The best part, the above, with a soft drink, £22. Superb, I’m still around for another week and I will be going back, to be honest I’d quite happily eat here every evening.

The food is nice and cooked well,and you get complimentary chocolate at the end of your meal (if you get the meat feast pizza with peppers they are very spicy so if you have low spice tolerance don't have peppers with it)

First visit and won’t be our last, lovely little place - highly recommend booking, within 20 minutes of opening all tables were filled. Food was delightful, really really fresh and the portions were plentiful.

Pleasantly Surprised. Didn't expect too much based on interior of restaurant as fairly basic but the food was really good and service was excellent and the staff very friendly. We had four different dishes. I had goats cheese pizza, others had the folded pizza, carbonara and gnocchi. deserts were also very good, really enjoyed the strudel. All dishes were really tasty and very well priced. Would definitely visit again

Brilliant place to go. Whether you live in Scarborough or are on holiday. Had a fabulous meal with a lovely bottle of red wine and Grappa to finish. We will be returning very soon.

I live in Scarborough and come here regularly and it is always good. Fresh ingredients sourced daily. Today however it was absolutely wonderful. Highly recommended.

We had a meal here for the first time. Got to say the food is absolutely delicious. Don’t go for fast food cos you won’t get it. The service is quite slow but there was only one lady taking orders and serving drinks. More staff would help but that’s only an observation. The food is well worth the wait. We had starters and mains and were blown away by the quality . If you have the time then give this place a go. Highly recommended.

Absolutely beautiful meal here tonight sea bass was cooked to perfection slight hiccup was I’d ordered the salmon but wasn’t bothered as I like sea bass too, the other half had pepperoni pizza which he loved too

Best Italian food I've had outside of Italy

You are so very unprofessional. Your reply to this just proves that. I'm in Scarborough now and staying very close to your restaurant actually. This is in no way a fake review! I was a paying customer who was very unhappy. Learn good customer service! Each time I come to Scarborough for my holiday I'm reminded of my awful experience in this restaurant. So much so that I'm still compelled to write about it four years later. It seems that in those four years the restaurant is still the same going by recent reviews. I walked in today and approached a small lady at the bar who immediately told me I came in the wrong way and I should have used the other entrance. There was no indication of this on the entrance I used. I asked if they had a table for one. I was asked by the rude woman to remove my mask. I don't think English was her first language. Another much nicer lady came over and told the other woman to seat me at the front. The rude woman abruptly handed me the menu. She returned to take my order and was still quite abrupt with me. I was given cutlery. Another younger lady who was lovely came and asked if I had placed a drinks order which I had. My drink came shortly followed by the food. The food was lovely and quite cheap. Huge portion and I couldn't eat it all. The lovely lady came out to ask if I was enjoying it. When I had finished she came to take my plate and asked if I would like the left overs boxing up but I declined and told her the food was delicious. I asked the rude woman for the bill and she loudly placed the plate down on the table. I began to place coins on to the plate and she seemed annoyed I was paying with pound coins (it was all I had). The food was nice but I will not return simply because of the way the one rude woman treat me. The rest of the staff were really nice. She lets them down. Whilst I was eating this rude woman seated two other parties of people and was happy and smiley and treated them with respect. I don't know what I did to upset her. The reply on trip advisor from the manager(??) was: claudiol956 Hi there is plenty of indication on all door which one is to us the front door have a big sign do not enter also on front door outside a map which one to use also trough out the restaurant inside which is the exit so please do not lie are no sign this is not true this review will be reported for false information. We have put in place since reopening all the respected sign required and station required for your safety. Photos of this will be given to TripAdvisor.

Great Food, lovely fresh ingredients and nice variety to choose from. I had the Prawn share platter and it was really lovely, Seabass for main and seasonal veg. Some of our friends would have liked fries/chips but it was a refreshing change not to have everything with fries. The menu said steak but didn't say what it came with so our large ground didn't go for it. Our table wasn't ready so we all stood around until they moved us to the back bar area to wait to be seated but I wish they had done this straight away as we were standing next to dinners which must have been frustrating. They did apologise for the wait but we then went on to have a lovely meal.

We were in Scarborough for the weekend for a wedding and my husband and I visited Il Piatto on the Thursday night and had such a fantastic meal, that when the rest of our family arrived on the Friday, we booked up for all 14 of us to go to dinner, and again it was amazing. How Claudio the amazing Chef and owner, and Som the wonderful lady serving, managed to not only serve us 14, but a completely full restaurant, with amazing, hot, delicious food, and altogether, absolutely astounds me. Would 100% recommend you try this authentic, out of the ordinary Italian restaurant, with dishes I doubt you'd find anywhere other than Italy! Potions AMAZING, price very good, especially for the quality and tastiness, and the friendliness of Claudio and Som was heartwarming. If you don't try this restaurant while you're in Scarborough, you are truly missing a gem of a culinary delight. Thank you so much Claudio and Som, for 2 truly wonderful evenings, we will return if we're ever in Scarborough again.

I booked a table here for my wife's birthday, and we left the place very disappointed. The initial service was pleasant and attentive, but it didn't last and went downhill quickly. The starter was very average, as were the mains we ordered, and there wasn't enough for the price. Mine was heavily loaded with garlic, and my wife's too heavy with cream. The cook/chef clearly doesn't understand balance and flavour. The tagliatelle was cooked well, as were the prawns and salmon. Unfortunately, they left the tails on the prawns, which is a definite no no. We were thinking about having a dessert, but the service wasn't quick enough because they had two large parties in and not enough staff to cope, so we'd had enough and left still hungry. It's possibly the worst 'Italian' restaurant we've ever been in.

We had a nice evening. It was very busy and with only 3 staff they did a amazing job. The staff was very friendly especially the Thai lady who made you feel very welcome. Food was good, thank you for a wonderful evening.

Popped in at the last minute for a late dinner. Had a delicious meal. We had the bruschetta to share. I had the tagliatelle cremosi with salmon and prawns which was absolutely beautiful. My partner had the tagliatelle boscaiola which he said was delicious. The staff were friendly, and the lady who served us was really lovely. The tomato bruschetta was absolutely divine.

What a fantastic Italian restaurant. We dined here for my mums birthday this evening and it was superb. The pizzas are really tasty, I had the meat feast and it was by far the best pizza I have had from an Italian restaurant. My wife had one of the folded pizzas which was also really tasty and very enjoyable. Rob was superb he was really busy for this evenings service but nothing was too much to ask for, professional friendly service and he even prepared a lovely dessert with a candle and sang happy birthday to my mum. The tiramisu was amazing really nicely made with a lovely serving of ice cream. Top marks I will definitely return when I come back to Scarborough and thanks again to Rob fantastic :-)

Small Italian restaurant. We had a sharing board which was generous and delicious. I had really good tagliatelle. The other half had caprese that was excellent. The variety of tomatoes was great and super tasty. The kids had pizza, which were spot on. Relaxed atmosphere. Attentive but non intrusive service. Good location.

Just eaten here food was excellent had a mushroom starter lasagne and strudel staff were professional and made you feel welcome food was very tasty and cooked to a high standard would recommend this place to alll.

A really lovely little restaurant! We were staying in Scarborough and happened upon il Piatto on the first night, tge welcome was so warm and the food so delicious that we went on our second night too! Over the two nights we had two different pastas and two different pizzas, all of which were delicious but I have to say the penné with Tuscan sausage, mushrooms and cream was wonderful! It was busy both times restaurant we went but service was good and the food well worth any wait.

The best Italian restaurant we’ve been to by far, went 18mths ago and returned tonight. The food is delicious, full of fresh flavours and service great too. Absolutely recommend.

Good proper Italian food and wonderful wines

Lasagna not very tasty and fillet steak not so tender. Bit disappointing, but staff and service were faultless.

Genuinely one of the best Italians we’ve had for a long time. Sharing meat platter to start was absolutely spot on. Pizza and the lasagna as mains were both fantastic, tasty and made properly. Would definitely recommend.

Me and my partner came for our anniversary and I thought I'd book somewhere nice, as soon as we walked in the service was very welcoming and friendly. The food was amazing, we only had 2 mains and a desert but they were brilliant, couldn't fault it and price wise I was more than happy. Will definitely be coming again.

Lovely little restaurant. Close to where we were staying. Not your typical Chain Italian menu. The Carbornara best I have had. Portions large . I would of liked to have given 5 star but the evening was let down by a group of foul mouthed thugs. Such a shame.

Staff are friendly, and so welcoming to us and our little dog. Gave us plenty of time to look over them menu which is not too overwhelming but has a good range of food. The only reason I’ve not scored 5 star is because the prawn risotto came and it had raw red onion stirred through at the end of cooking so the flavor was overpowered, I’ve not seen this done before and I don’t think it added to the dish in a positive way. The carbonara was very heavily peppered too, but this is down to taste, overall it’s good food at a decent price and very good service. EDIT- I find the owners response very strange, I was picking still firm bits of red onion out of the finished dish, which tasted of raw onion primarily. I’ve not left a bad review, I’d have still eaten there again if not for the reply by the owner. But if we are splitting hairs, the onion should be white and finely chopped when preparing a risotto.

Very nice place - just the best service and amazing food. Not expensive or too fancy but can't fault this restaurant. Waiters are friendly, chatty, helpful - food was lovely. One the best salmon I've ever had and huge pizza. Drinks and desserts are reasonably priced and even the coffee is lovely. What more can I say! oh... the vegetables were nice too. thanks.

We all very much enjoyed the food which was presented well and tasted absolutely gorgeous. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food prices were very reasonable and the whole bill should have been about £60 (happy hour offer before 6:30). However, I did make the mistake of asking for an unlisted drink, the Italian classic Aperol Spritz which I was charged £9, £3.50 and £1.50 for the Prosseco, Aperol and Dash of Soda respectively. I queried if £14 for the drink was correct and the staff defended the charge. So be aware of asking for mixed drink. When in Rome ....

Family of nine including one child. No one was disappointed with the quality of food. Staff are attentive and efficient and friendly. Would definitely recommend and go again

Our favourite restaurant in Scarborough. We discovered it last year whilst on holiday and kick started this years holiday with a beautiful meal on our first night away this year. We visited a second time during the week.

Lovely restaurant with delicious food, can not recommend enough, the cheese and garlic bread just melted in your mouth. It was the perfect combination of crispy and gooey all at once.

We decided on a night in Scarborough and looked on Google of where to eat. This place came up and we looked at the menu before they were open. We phoned on the day (Friday) and booked for that evening. The service was excellent, the place inviting, warm and good atmosphere. The food was outstanding. I had the saltimbocca and her in doors had the beef in Guinness. Would recommend.

We had tried to get into Il Piatto previously when in Scarborough but it was always busy. Finally got in tonight and so glad we did. Excellent food, brilliant service, and a great atmosphere despite it being a cold, wet November night. I cannot recommend Il Piatto enough.

From the warm welcome , to the wave goodbye , this was an Italian to remember . The shared veggie platter was generous with loads of different flavours . The spinach and recotta pasta amazing ,with fresh tomato sauce , pizza was good too . All washed down with a lovely house wine , but the make or break of any good Italian ( for me , anyway ) the tiramisu....was THE best , will leave more room next time , for a full one . Great for a pre-theatre meal .

Overall slightly disappointed. Fillet was way over for a medium and not the tenderest steak I’ve had. Peppercorn sauce a bit too zingy. The pizza was ok with, if anything, too much topping and a slightly thinner base would be better but still pretty good. Atmosphere varied between noisy fun family party and private dining, just us. It was a Wednesday. Ok ambience. Plainish decor. The service was prompt and friendly. Made us feel welcome.
