India Palace in Stroud

Had the most delicious, tangy curry from the fantastic India Palace yesterday (a Lamb Khyber - highly recommend!) This local restaurant is invaluable for our community. Thank you to all the team and look forward to our next visit.

Excellent food and friendly service. Had dinner here with my wife and friends; everyone thought the food was well cooked and very tasty.

A real mixed experience - restaurant scruffy, cold and oddly set out- as if it was temporary; a long noisy table did not help. Zero atmosphere. Carpet needed a hoover. However the staff were friendly and very polite and the food was lovely, though far too expensive- a £20 min spend per head does not help smaller appetites, so that is unacceptable.

Just being honest, I did a review a couple of months ago and rated the food as 5 star. But this visit was sadly lacking! Not sure why. The mint sauce was watery and lacked flavour and punch! My dhal was watery and bland! I did mention it was watery and they thickened it up, but what can you do if flavour is missing! Hubby was not impressed with the vegetable masala either. Service was great and staff are very attentive and polite. Parking in the area is a nightmare, double yellows everywhere! Best to park out and walk in. Sadly won’t go back as would rather try somewhere new than risk an average £50+ meal. Wasn’t sure of the total bill either, but hubby didn’t check it, just paid, seemed high for what we had. Once we decided to park and walk in, we had a pleasant evening but the food was a let down sadly. Not sure if they have a new or temporary chef.

Take away curry. It was tastless. It tasted like gravy mixed with curry powder. It was disgusting. NEVER AGAIN.

Service was impeccable, food was one of the best we have ever had and we’ve been eating Indian food for over 50 years plus I’m Anglo Indian so a tough critic. The Taka Dhal was great, in fact all of the dishes were perfect. Really impressed with the pickle tray a great selection. Nice to see an Indian have beer on draught too. A good experience over all.

One of the best curry’s I’ve had for a while! Absolutely gorgeous. Defiantly recommend the lamb sagawalla and mushroom rice

I have been to India Palace three times now and each time It has been excellent. The food is one of the very best Indians I have eaten at and one can see the care taken in the cooking. The cooking is refined and the use of spices result in a very flavoursome. Persona;;y, I like a hot curry and thought I had ordered one, but when it came, it was not that hot, but the flavours were sublime. Service is also good without being obstusive. The restaurant is well worth a visit

We went as a group of 4 in mid Sept. The food and service were both great. This was the first time I've been to a restaurant since lockdown and I th ink they are managing the situation very well with well spaced tables and hand sanitiser available. We really enjoyed the pickles with the poppadoms. They were fresh and there was a fantastic hot one. The naan breads were also fantastic- as soon as they came out it was clea r this was going to be a good meal. The curries and veg sides did mot disappoint. We were all very happy with our choices and I think everyone liked what everyone else had ordered too! So full marks to this restaurant and I look forward to my next visit!

A small group of friends and I were suitably impressed by the food and service at India Palace, Wotton-Under-Edge. We tried a variety of the dishes, sides, breads and pickles and unanimously agreed it was all delicious. There is loads of variety in their menu and each dish is unique so no fear of getting bored on repeat visits - which we are now certain to be making. The team were extremely helpful, professional and friendly. The waiters graciously humoured our curiosity about the recipes for certain dishes and were kind - and knowledgable - enough to answer all our questions. We slightly over ordered in our enthusiasm and inevitably became the annoying group who asked to have or leftovers boxed up to take home; the waiter was more than happy to oblige with this. For those who may be nervous about returning to restaurants following the quarantine, India Palace are clearly following govt. Coronavirus guidelines very carefully with PPE all present and correct for everyone in the team and hand sanitiser provided at points of contact. They are also managing numbers responsibly to facilitate social distancing. We will be back!

Really enjoyable and well cooked meal. Excellent service. Will definitely be back the next time we're in town.

The restaurant had made very good provision for covid-19; tissues, hand sanitiser and waiters with face shields. The service was great and the food was very good. The first time I have eaten here but I'll definitely be back!

La comida era deliciosa y abundante, el personal era encantador y nos sentimos muy bien atendidos, las mesas estaban bien espaciadas, con un montón de desinfectante, etc. pero aún así un ambiente bueno y relajante. Altamente recomendado.

India Palace have just reopened their restaurant. We have had takeaway meals every week during the lockdown but took the opportunity to have an evening out with an enjoyable Indian meal. Take away and restaurant meals are always great.

Pedimos una comida para llevar para un cambio ya que mi hermana que nos estaba visitando en Wotton quería invitarnos a comer y le encanta la comida india. Pedimos 4 platos principales, 1 suave (para mi hija a la que no le gustan los curries demasiado calientes) 1 medio / caliente y 2 calientes. Además de arroz con ajo y papadoms.No se podía distinguir honestamente ninguna diferencia entre el curry "suave" y los otros tres "platos calientes". El pollo estaba tierno pero los dos platos de cordero estaban secos y masticables. Nada de la comida sabía horrible, pero simplemente no había ningún sabor a especias o calor. Con un sistema gradual de leve, medio, caliente y muy caliente, esperaría que el medio rayara en caliente y que el calor sea considerablemente más picante. Fue muy decepcionante, mis propias recetas caseras de Madhur Jaffrey nos hubieran servido mejor. ¿Están atendiendo a las masas de Wotton que se oponen al calor? Hay muchas críticas positivas, por lo que esa puede ser mi única conclusión, pero ¿por qué molestarse en distinguir la calificación de calor entre los diferentes platos? La comida estaba bien, pero el servicio era horrible. El gerente mostró poco interés en a quién estaba sirviendo, e incluso no pudo mantener el contacto visual al tomar una orden. Es una pena, pero nunca volveremos a comer aquí otra vez, la complacencia será el final de este lugar.

Odio escribir críticas negativas, pero fui a visitar esto para una comida con dos amigos, un sábado por la noche.Se ordenó dos comidas medianas y una caliente. Se informó que el calor estaba bien, los dos medios ni siquiera eran suaves, solo suaves. Sin especias muy poco sabor. Cuando llegó la comida había una piel sobre ella como si hubiera permanecido demasiado tiempo.El servicio fue lento. La decoración es monótona y faltó, aunque sé que esto no significa que la comida sea mala, ya que he tenido algunos curry excelentes en un lugar muy deteriorado, en este caso no ayudó.Además de eso, era casi 100 por tres curry y pocos poppadoms y 6 cervezas. Tuve una muy buena comida en Chipping Sodbury durante tres el siguiente fin de semana por ese dinero.Estaba muy decepcionado en general.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. Although this place looks like it’s in need of Refurbishment the food is of Good high quality. The staff are friendly, attentive and quick. Overall a good dinning experience.

We love a good curry but sadly that wasn’t what we got here. The menu looked great - I opted for what was described as a fairly hot Chicken Sylheti Naga Tikka and my other half had a medium hot Chicken Shatkora.....not having the biggest appetites these days we shared a portion of pilau rice and a peshwari Nan and started with popadoms and assorted pickles. The dishes arrived and looked lovely and in fairness were very tasty. Flavoursome but lacking in heat! Portion sizes were generous so neither of us managed to finish everything - we were offered a ‘doggy bag’ to take home what was left. We politely declined because we were both totally stuffed and feeling very painfully bloated by then end of our meal! We then spent the next 12 hours ‘suffering’ feeling very uncomfortable......something neither of us have experienced before! On a plus side their house red was actually quite nice and they serve Bangla beer too!The staff overall were very pleasant though we did have one waiter who was a tad abrupt! And it was a little off putting how their trays of pickles are all sat waiting open to the elements on a low table by the door as you walk in!Sadly I don’t think we’ll be returning for a second visit!

Great authentic Indian food with a great friendly service. Waiters took time to talk and explain dishes. Nice to have a restaurant in this little village that serves the real stuff .

India Palace is a restaurant situated in Wotton-under-Edge. The only issue was that parking in the area was a pain, and that there is a slight ramp after you walk in which is easy to trip over. The staff were very friendly and were helpful while we were there. The naan bread was fluffy and my curry (chicken tikka masala) tasted very nice. Me and my girlfriend were very full by the end of the meal.

Went there for my birthday meal, there was a big table of us and they looked after us well. Will definitely return.

Parece una opción razonable si se desea algo diferente a la comida de pub / bistec en esta pequeña ciudad. He notado que varias críticas se quejan del personal, todos fueron agradables cuando los visité, y de que la comida estaba fría. Toda nuestra comida estaba caliente, aunque una mujer en la mesa de al lado le envió las fichas para que se calentaran, pero pedir papas en un restaurante indio nunca es una buena idea

Como dice mi título, la comida era buena, sin embargo, el personal fue grosero. No es una sonrisa entre ellos. Tengo una alergia y cuando me preguntan si el alimento contiene algo a lo que soy alérgico, me miraron como si estuviera haciendo la pregunta más ridícula. Mis cubiertos me fueron arrojados. Pude ver que otras personas estaban recibiendo el mismo tipo de servicio. Me sentí como un inconveniente más para el personal. Es una pena.

Firstly, we eat out at Indian restaurants regularly in our home town in Torbay and when we go away always seek out the local Indian restaurant. We have never before had such bad service. We would not recommend or ever revisit this place. When we arrived the welcome was not welcoming at all. No-one looked happy to see us. We ordered drinks and poppadums. The poppadums arrived quickly and the drinks arrived 15 minutes later. When the cokes came they were completely flat. We said " Sorry but the cokes flat". Not one word of sorry they just took them away and 5 minutes later brought out two new ones which weren't much better. With not so much as a smile and a 'sorry about that' comment. It was a long time before they came to take our actual order. We were then waiting for a very long time for our food to arrive. There were four occupied tables. Not busy at all. However, the staff were very busy dispatching takeaway food. It was obvious what their priorities were - certainly not the restaurant. As we had a concert to attend to, my husband politely asked if our dinner was going to be much longer. It then came straight out. My husband and my meal was cold. When the staff came to ask if everything was okay we said that the food was not very warm. The waiter said 'well shall I heat it up'. This always worries me and we did not want to wait any long so we just left most of it. The staff looked miserable the whole time we were there. The manager did not come over to us and apologise. Upon leaving, my husband said he was not paying the whole bill as one meal was cold. The manager argued that it was not cold! It was stone cold! I think what had happened is that they had wheeled it out, as we saw it on the trolley, then they attended to people collecting takeaways and then decided to wheel it to us (after it had been sat on the trolley getting cold). My husband took £6 off the bill (generous I thought) and said that they could receive that amount or nothing, The manager eventually agreed. However, I found their attitude rude - unlike any Indian restaurant we have ever attended. It is clear they do not care about repeat business or customer satisfaction. Do not go here if you want a friendly ambience because your evening will be ruined.

Monday evening cheeky take out whilst away on family holiday.... Booked via phone, 30min collection. Parking ok but not ideal, staff freindly, food v.good but not the best I've had.

We decided to try this restaurant as a change from our local Indian in Dursley Generously sized portions, good selection of vegetarian dishes (ranging from very mild korma to spicier dansak) to choose from. We boxed up half of the meal as there was so much!

Always get our takeaways here. The staff are friendly and really attentive. The food is great mostly but there have been times when it's been a bit hit and miss (hence the 4 stars). Great options for food and would still recommend to everyone.

This is my third visit with friends and family. We booked a table for 5 on Friday evening and everyone agreed their meal was excellent with a first class service. I travel quite often and rate the India Palace among the best. Great value

My son was visiting us from Denmark and we decided to celebrate his last night by going out for a curry.

We are local and love the food, but we don't understand the refusal to deliver. Would use a delivery service several times a month if it was on offer! We think this restaurant is missing a trick!

Visited on a Monday evening so extremely quiet. The decor was rather old fashioned and did need attention. Nevertheless our food was very good and the staff were very friendly.

La comida, el servicio y la buena gente. Sin embargo, la parte trasera fuera de desastre, frigoríficos, suciedad, basura y ratas trampas son un reflejo de la confianza relativa a ciegos que todos necesitan el personal de la cocina y la higiene! Tenía que ver o sabido, no hubiéramos comido aquí! !

Ordered a takeaway for two people one dish was vegetarian so should have been cheaper than meat dish had one rice to share supposed to have 10% off takeaway but thought very expensive £24.50. Didn't think very special seemed like frozen vegetables and tikka sauce tasted like coconut ? Mixed with a Korma poppadoms not crisp

First class - probably the best Indian restaurant I have been to. Absolutely First Class Food and Service and White Linen Table Cloths and Napkins. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. I had read that they were popular and I expect they are always full - if there was anything to criticise it would be that each place setting could have been 6 - 12 inches wider for more elbow room.

We hadn't been in for a while due to other things going on. We had an excellent meal with the portion sizes being spot on. The drinks were spot on, the service was brilliant, the poppadoms, pickle tray and main courses were perfect. Only trouble was that none of us had enough room for a dessert.Will certainly be going back more in the future.

My wife and I fancied an Indian this lunchtime so I looked online and saw the India Palace at Wotton was advertised as open between 1200-1400 perfect we thought. However after a 15 minute drive to get there they were CLOSED . Wasted time and petrol because they couldn't be bothered to update their opening times !

The staff here were rude and we were placed next to a really loud table of young teenagers which made it difficult to hear each other on our own table. Despite having the rest of the restaurant empty. The food however was nice and the chicken chat starter was excellent, the portion sizes are very good also.

Bad guts and stomach cramps last two times in a row, not great will not be chancing it again. Staff are great food let's it down.

Bland and cold . Ordered for 6 people , not one of us said a good word ! Don't know what else to say! Not a good meal at all , wouldn't order again

Family meal for 3, good range of dishes including some less common, service good, food excellent, highly recommended. We prefer this to any in Stroud or Nailsworth.

This is a lovely curry house. We've visited over a dozen times over the last few years, the food is always fresh and tasty. Great for curry lovers who don't like it too spicy, a lot of the dishes are on the milder side. Although they are always happy to add some spice if you want it. The service is always excellent, the staff are very friendly and cheerful. Very clean and well kept premises, they're out cleaning the windows every few days, it gives me faith that the kitchen is clean too :) A great addition to Wotton under Edge.

We had a lovely meal. The choice of curries from across India is amazing spoilt for choice. The quality of the food was excellent and the service second to none. When visiting Wotton we will return

Christmas meal with friends. Every time I come here it gets better. I really think this place has built itself up to a very good Indian restaurant - good quality, portions and reasonably priced. Great menu. Reputations are hard to come by and easily lost. The India Palace has been variable over the last 15 years, but at the moment it's really impressive and beats competition in all the neighbouring towns. Well done fellas!

Had several takeaways from here over the last few years, the chaps on the phone have always been polite and the food is always ready on time for the time I ask for. The portion sizes are good and taste is always spot on. I shall certainly kept returning!

Food was filled with lovely flavours, did not have to wait long even though the restaurant was full up... Excellent service and can't wait to return as lots on the menu we want to try.

Had a lovely meal at this Indian. Quick and efficient service. Nothing was too much trouble. We had poppadoms with a selection of 6 accompaniments. Yum. Then we had a selection of mains mine was a coriander chicken dish. Fantastic, tasty and good portions.

My wife and I just went on a whim this evening as we fancied a curry and decided to try the India Palace at Wotton as we hadn't been there for years. We weren't disappointed and enjoyed a very tasty (if a little hot) Chicken Tikka Madras with sag aloo pillao rice and nan. Washed down with a nice cold Kingfisher lager and a white wine our waiter was attentive but not intrusive and very friendly and we found the bill comparable with other Indians we have eaten at. Recommended!

Me and my partner are quite regular visitors here, and we always have a good experience when we visit. It's a typical Indian, with a wide range of dishes available all cooked traditionally and always very tasty. Perhaps the restaraunt itself is in need of a bit of a revamp and update on the presentation of the menu, but then many Indian restaraunts in the UK are the same. The staff are always really friendly and polite, and really attentive. They're very quick to serve drinks and food when it's ready, and clear away any unwanted plates quickly too. We have found in the past when visiting with large groups, paying can be a bit of a challenge, but that's very much the same in any restaraunt when a large group attends, so not really a big issue. Eating in is definitely better than taking out in our experience, but the food is always very tasty.

I always have the same thing in Indian's to be honest but I notice when something doesn't taste good. This did, all was fabulous.

Back for takeaway but this time it wasn't as nice as usual. Maybe too busy (it was full inside), or maybe a different chef, or maybe even my own paranoia following Swindongate, but whatever the reason it was a bit disappointing.The lamb tikka sagwala was nice, but the Bombay aloo and lemon rice were disappointing. It certainly won't stop us going back for more though.

We came here last night with another family, who have two young children. The staff were friendly, and the food came quickly and was very tasty. It is a nice local Indian restaurant, with a varied menu that seems to be reasonably priced. The portions were quite large, with enough for second helpings and even third helpings! Would recommend it to other families and would definitely go again. The complimentary desserts were a nice touch - much appreciated by the children!

Myself and two friends visited here recently on a night out. The staff were welcoming and attentive. In addition, the menu is broad, and has many specialities and sides that I have not tried before, while still catering to the popular dishes. Try the Garlic Special if you're not on a date! Definitely recommended.

Been here a few times. It's your standard local Indian restaurant. Good food at reasonable prices. The pickles and poppadoms are very good. It's a great place to go with a group of friends.

We get takeaway from here fairly regularly and have eaten in a couple of times. This time was takeaway and it was pretty damn nice. I had lamb tikka sagwala which was very rich and tasty, and lemon rice which is a really refreshing change to the usual 'boring' rice. I don't think I'll ever order any other kind of rice if I can help it! I also has a side of Bombay aloo because I have to have it every time, because it's delicious. in fact, sometimes I just order that and nothing else. The menu is extensive and I'm working my way through it with chittagong being a favourite for a long time - I don't think that's on the menu any more though.

As I live nearby I have eaten in this restaurant a few times when meeting up with friends. If there was more choice in Wotton I would never come here. It is really quite expensive, the food is really quite poor and the atmosphere is woeful. The waiters are attentive but all seem in awe of the grumpy main man and there's not a lot of smiling going on. The menu is unrealistically extensive and it would be better if they concentrated on fewer dishes and made a better job of them. The last time I went there my meal was really quite nasty and I didn't eat much of it.

Have had many a take away from here. Always great food, freshly cooked and well presented. Went with family for sit in meal yesterday and service was second to none. Food was delicious. Can't fault anything.

Very disappointing .. After a nice start with poppadoms and a great selection of pickles I was looking forward to the main (chicken balti, pilao rice and a plain nan) but what a disappointment.. The rice was congealed and over cooked, the balti sauce was the saltiest I have ever had. The best bit was the nan bread. I am a huge fan of curries and for me not to even eat half of the meal says a lot of the quality of food. This is one place I would never come back to and would advise people to think very carefully about dining here.. Terrible experience

Always good food, but has been a bit on the expensive side. Not eaten in the restaurant, but the staff have always been friendly and attentive with drinks whilst waiting.

First class food (and lots of it) and service at reasonable prices- what more could you want. Wonderful. Hope to return soon. Highly Recommended.

My husband and I have been here a couple of times for indian food. The staff is very friendly, and the indian food here is very good. They have lots of delicious food to choose from.

The staff were great when we arrived as a group of nearly 30. Very well organised. The menu options were great covering all the favourites plus numerous house specialities, all worth a try.

I visited whilst staying in Wotton under Edge and although I was the only diner early on a Tuesday evening the staff were friendly and the food good. Thoroughly recommended and I will certainly visit again when I am in the area.

This is our local Indian and we should come here more! The staff are always lovely & attentive. The food is lovely too. The wine is good value :-) the complimentary dessert was very nice and a great taste of Indian tradition. Thank you - will be popping in soon & over the Christmas period.

Lovely meal here with my mum, she is notoriously hard to please and yet she was in her element here, proper flavours and considerate staff, wine is reasonable and the service is lovely not too pushy but there when you want them, will definitely be making a return visit.

On my trips to the UK from Dubai I always visit India Palace as a friendly place to have a great quality curry. There is a good selection from the menu and the staff are always happy to help you get what you want. I will be back again next time I'm here!

This is my local Indian and I love it. Loads of variety and very friendly people who run it! I have had some horrible Indians so I'm glad one of my favourite Indian restaurants is my local.Would recommend for all occasions and it does takeaway aswell :)

A group of us had a lovely meal on a Wednesday evening as they do a reduced rate on a Tues and Wed. Excellent value, food, taste and the staff very nice. We have also had take-aways which have been excellent. The lightest Naan breads we have ever had.
