Inn on the Green in Torbay

Had pleasant meal here 8th Sept '24 and was disappointed to hear that pub would be closing in 2 weeks time. Arrived 15th Sept '24 evening and found that pub no longer served any food (!) Only a few days earlier, I'd received an email from pub's owners offering deals on future meal bookings, including Xmas meal bookings (!!) What's going on here?

The inn on the green looks like it needs some tlc but don’t be fooled. Inside is lovely and clean good menu the food was piping hot and so were the plates. The staff are friendly,pleasant,and helpful. Give it a try.

Very disappointing. My partner and I visited on a Friday night around 9 o’clock. By 9.20pm we were informed they would be shutting within 20 mins. The place inside looks run down. The pool table was covered up. For such a large pub positioned on the sea front there was little to no atmosphere.

Arrived without booking, was made very welcome by staff, after quick browse of menu, food and drinks ordered, I am a bit awkward as I cannot eat chips, so rump and mash ordered among other food. Food and plates came hot and drinks were cold(always a bonus) service was great, young lad and lady servers were great and very friendly. We had a fabulous evening on 31st August, amazing steaks, and great service. Plus point, a great singer. 10 out of 10. The lady with long black hair (management), so,so friendly and super hard worker. Thank you so much.

Had a good experience here. Came back for drinks and dinner for three nights in a row ( 7 pm). Food was really good and menu catered for vegetarians. Staff were polite and efficient, so overall, very satisfied.

Got into the pub at 9.50pm to be told that they were closing at 10pm! We were served a drink "as long as you drink up by then". The next day, we decided to pop in for our evening meal. Arrived at about 7.30pm to be told that "the kitchen was closing and you will have order in the next 4 minutes". The pub advertises opening until 11pm, kitchen open until 9pm. Overall, a poor experience. Don't bother!

RAN OUT OF FOOD AGAIN, I ENDED UP ASKING FOR JUST A JACKET POTATO, ORDER WAS PLACED AND PAID FOR IT WAS OUR 2ND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AND MY IN-LAWS RECEIVED THEIR FOOD (WHICH WAS NOT THEIR 1ST CHOICE BUT NOT MUCH TO PICK FROM) ONLY TO BE THEN TOLD I COULD NOT JUST HAVE A JACKET POTATO. ON PREVIOUS VISIT FOOD WAS OVERCOOKED. OTHERS IN THE RESTAURANT WHERE ALSO COMPLAINING ABOUT LACK OF CHOICE EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD CALLED TO CHECK IF THEIR CHOICE WAS AVAILABLE. PLACE NEEDS A LOT OF WORK DOING TO IT AS VERY SHABBY

Despite the dilapidated state of the building and gardens, which would put a lot of people off, the inside is clean, the staff lovely and the food not too bad at all. The view from the terrace is good and there is usually something to watch.

Happy staff, good food, good portion sizes, easy going and never felt rushed. Accommodated my complex allergies without any complaints, very pleased with their service.

A great experience. Really nice food. We had a discount voucher which we stupidly forgot to use before paying but Ellie was really patient in sorting a refund and letting us then pay the discount price. Even offered us free drinks as an apology when the fault was entirely ours - which we therefore declined of course. Ellie, Matt at the bar and the servers all extremely friendly and helpful. So much so we will return tomorrow!! We passed on by a couple of days before as the exterior looks a bit rundown, but inside it’s very nice so don’t let that put you off.

Visited twice during our recent trip to the Torbay area On both occasions we found the staff to be very pleasant and friendly The food menu is very varied and everything we ordered was freshly cooked and very enjoyable

We came as a party of nine and were looked after very well by Ellie, who went the extra mile. Our food was lovely. We recommend the pizzas.

Popped in for a quick drink at lunchtime with my partner and little dog bono. Staff were very friendly and amazing, Ellie even spent some time playing with our dog. Aisha and Ellie both were smiling and couldn't do enough for us. They even had a doggy food menu too so we came back for dinner. Needless to say our dog loved his dinner and sat at the table like such a big boy! Definitely highly recommend family and dog friendly good prices good food and amazing staff. First time back to eat here in 24 year's. Food was ok husband enjoyed his steak, can't fault the staff and service very friendly and quick service. It's such a shame to see the building itself looking rundown I hope the owners will refresh the building it's a prime spot and the outside has the potential to put people off.

We came here for a meal on Easter Monday a family of 10 and had food. The food was nice, but we had a few things missing, granted they were refunded so we decided to go back today for another meal and give them a second chance! Well we were shocked when we were told they couldn't accommodate us a family of 10. The pub was practically empty at 4.10pm, when we approached a couple of staff members who were not too friendly. The kitchen was empty no food coming out. They said they were going by online bookings. We then went to look at booking a table online and we could actually book a table for 5 minutes time! 4.15pm An absolute joke, we won't be revisiting this pub again. What happened to customer service.

Service was good- however food was mediocre, seemed like it was all frozen and reheated. Good location but food could be improved.

Nice friendly staff food was great and came out quick was piping hot dog friendly which was great definitely recommend.

Great food friendly service could even bring our dog for a meal with his own menu I will keep coming back to this place each month I’m down in Devon as it the only place where I have been where the staff actually have a laugh and a joke with you . Really thought is was a derelict building from outside, the site in an absolute awful state and not very inviting at all. The food itself was ok and reasonable cost shame its let down by such a shabby building when you have nice new hotels each side. In desperate need of a lick of paint and update.

First time to the inn on the green for years. 14 of us in our party all having various diner options. Food came out all together, piping hot & well cooked. I had a medium rare steak that was spot on & i couldn't fault. Everyone said how good the food was, so shout out to the chef. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. Good choice of drinks, I had directors that was really nice. There was entertainment on which went down well. Singer with guitar but very good. The decor inside was very clean and looked recently refurbished. We will definatly visit again.

I read this business for its cleanliness, how the staff treat you happy greeting pleasant with a smile food is excellent management goes out of his way to make you welcome. Yes I would go back any time I give the business 5+
