Journeys in Eastbourne

We had an absolutely wonderful date night at Journeys. Opting for the tasting menu was the perfect choice; each course was a delight, showcasing exceptional flavours and thoughtful presentation. The wine selection paired beautifully with the dishes and the cocktails were equally impressive. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. The ambiance was warm and inviting, creating the perfect atmosphere for a romantic evening. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.

It was our twentieth wedding anniversary, so we pushed the boat out and had the tasting menu with wine pairings for each course. Marina was an amazing host and sommelier. She explained each course and gave the background of each wine, described its character and gave the reasoning behind its pairing. We were delighted to try some really lovely and even some surprising wines. The dishes created by Amy were really special. Each one was beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. There was a great combination of classics and exciting inventions. The restaurant itself was cosy and welcoming. We were really pleased we chose it for our special occasion.

Well, where to begin. I'm not a big reviewer in general - I fall into that terrible category of person who will have a positive experience, thank the owner, but not take any further action. But in this case, I cannot stand idly by after such a pleasant evening. The welcome we received was so warm, like meeting with a friend you haven’t seen in a few years. Despite the restaurant being quite busy, we were made to feel like we were the most important people in the room. We went with the Taster Menu on the recommendation of a friend, and if wasn’t for the recommendation we wouldn’t have even know about this gem in the heart of Eastbourne. I will describe two of the five dishes we had (It’s a four-course meal but my partner and I chose differently for the main course do had the pleasure of each trying an extra dish). I’m not a real ‘foodie’. I basically have four tastebuds that have to work overtime. I generally require a sledgehammer of flavour so to me texture is very important. However, in this case I think the food managed to resurrect a sense of taste that has been dormant for most of my life. The roquefort panna cotta was perfectly balanced and so creamy, the accompanying chutney and homemade bread adding a delightful tang and crunchy texture. The Lamb. I think I may have had a religious experience as the food gods truly shone down upon me that evening. The pairing with a celeriac (a delightful and underutilised vegetable) puree was glorious, and the jus…. oh the Jus! I wish the chef had left the kitchen so I could kiss her hand. I’m not going to comment on the dessert as that may be a spoiler but suffice to say it didn’t disappoint. A final note – the wine paring. Clearly great lengths have been gone too (and probably many nights spent testing) to find the ideal wine paring with each course. I enjoy my wine, but as I do not boast a particularly refined sense of taste, I have never really appreciated a pairing. I know good quality wine; I appreciate a good wine. But the pairings for this menu, and the explanations provided, have elevated my understanding. The dessert wine. Oh my days the dessert wine. Beautifully balanced orange flavours teases you and entices you to drink more. Do not listen to the wine if you wish to remain upright. It’s a trap! Finally, as price is always a consideration, a comment on the bill. Price doesn’t always equal value for money, but they excelled. I have been to fine restaurants such as Gravetye, The Pass, and the Tasting Rooms at Rathfinnie and you get what you pay for. Fabulous food with a price tag to match. We left the restaurant something thinking that we had conned them. Food of that calibre should not carry a price tag that low! As a more direct reference, it was half the price of the Tasting Rooms. A reader may think this review as unnecessarily flowery. I do not. A ‘quick’ paragraph wouldn’t do the establishment justice, nor the clear efforts of the team to create an experience. Suffice to say it wasn’t just an experience, it was a Journey.

/Update: fantastic meal again last night and great wine pairing. This really is a great place./ I came here first when it opened, curious to see what it could offer as I often felt let down in Eastbourne. A year later and I have confidently come to the conclusion that this is great classic french cooking in a lovely setting. The food is exactly what it says on the menu. It is carefully prepared and delivered with heart and flavour. The service is impeccable and the wine selection is fantastic. Highly recommend and should be you first choice booking for food and service.

I almost don’t want to write this because I want Journeys to be a secret. But that would make me a (fill in descriptive word here) and Marina and Amy deserve to be shouted about from the rooftops. This is a restaurant filled with love. Love of ingredients. Love of wine. Love of cooking. Love of customers. And all of that love shows up on the plate and the welcome you get here. I’ve genuinely just had one of the most memorable lunches ever … and I’ve had a lot of lunches. Please go here and do the same. But remember- it’s our secret.

Best place I've eaten in Eastbourne! The staff were so welcoming and flexible to my dietary requirements. The wine recommendation was truly delicious, would come back in a heartbeat, and hope to do very soon! My partner has been for lunch and was equally as impressed by the service and quality of food! Amazing place, so glad we have somewhere like this in the town!

Been a few times and got a few more nights booked - absolutely brilliant food, wine and service. Live having somewhere of this quality in my home town.

I went there with a party of 6 - and honestly Marie and Amy are so attentive. so lovely, and will do everything in their power to ensure you have a great time. All the small plates of the summer menu are impeccable. My friends and I enjoyed every single moment of the experience, and I'd highly recommend you give them a try. I had wanted to come for a long time, and took a punt for a friend birthday - we were not disappointed! Thank you both for a memorable evening, look forward to seeing you soon!

We have been to Marina, Amy and teams wonderful restaurant many times now and it NEVER disaapoints! Everything from the food, to the timing of the dishes to the drinks expertise and friendly welcoming atmosphere is just perfect. I wouldn't think to go anywhere else for a special occasion.

Had a delicious tasting menu and wine pairing with great service!

This was a great find during Eastbourne tennis week. In fact we enjoyed it so much we went back the next night. The service could not have been better, charming knowledgeable without being intrusive. The wine recommendation was perfect. Small plates were interesting and delicious, and the chocolate honeycomb combo was fantastic. The next night we had the mains of lamb rump and the truffle gnocchi mushroom mix, both fabulous.

Always Brilliant Marina and Amy are excellent amazing food, fab choice of wines with excellent recommendations and amazing hospitality and service. Always a great experience every time we visit. We have popped in for a casual supper and one of their event evenings and always exceptional

We frequently come here as it is a fantastic restaurant with service and care unlike anywhere else we have been, so it was a given that when my family was visiting Eastbourne we would take them here. Indeed, last night they knocked it out of the park. We were fortunate enough ti try the surprise tasting experience for six, and every single dish was a winner, with exciting and unexpected wine pairings and carefully designed menu with so much attention to detail. The signature honeycomb dessert was to die for. Amy, Marina and the crew were so flexible with various diatary needs and made sure it was a night to remember for my mum. I cannot recommend enough.

Both me and my partner love to go out for dinner, journeys is our new best place. We were late (due to taxi issues) however the staff were very accommodating. From the momment we stepped in we felt welcomed. The menu was explained in such great detail along with the wine choices, we had to go for the taster menu. This did not disappoint! The salmon, pickled cucumber and wasabi saurce was out of this world and the second course of scallops with and chorizo and chilli jam took it even further. We opted for the sommelier wine, with each course and it came through, everytime. The pairing was excellent. The red that was served before my main (of local lamb, Dauphinoise potatoes, apparagus, roasted onion and a saurce i cant even describe) i didn't think much of, however I was mistaken, it complemented the meal so well. This place is an absolute gem, the host and staff were amazing. Well done to what they all have achieved and good luck in the future. I look forward to the next sessional menu

The hake main course is amazing! The wine list is varied and reasonably priced. The best aspect of this fabulous restaurant though is the atmosphere and the friendly team. It was so cool to be able to have a lovely conversation with Marina about our choice of wine. We will definitely be back….many times!

Just amazing. The food was perfect, and I mean that literally. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, as each dish arrived, the whole journey through food got better and better. It felt like being on holiday in Europe. I highly recommend the sweet potato Katsu and the Gravelax. The best thing though was the service. The lady was so inviting, attentive and welcoming. She explained each dish as it arrived and made the whole experience even better. It's now our favourite place to eat in Eastbourne.

We were visiting Eastbourne for a couple of days and were soooooo glad we found this restaurant. Both the food and service were first rate. They catered for dietary intolerance with no fuss, happy to adapt dishes. Please don't hesitate to visit.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. My wife booked the guest experience tasting menu with a paired wine flight and it was AMAZING! The atmosphere, food, service and wine were perfect. The couple that own and operate this place very obviously love what they do and that comes through in the food, the wine pairings and the level of attention and service you feel as a guest. Genuinely one of the best meals we've ever had, all of the food was 10/10 but the truffle inspired pasta dish is not to be missed as well as the lamb, absolutely awesome across the board and the wine selection complimented all the food perfectly. If you're visiting Eastbourne or a local this is absolutely a must MUST visit. We will be back!!!

I popped in seeking a good red wine and a relaxing atmosphere, I was not let down. The lady (owner?) was very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable on what was on offer, recommending a outstanding pinot (which I don't normally like but was indeed a good recommendation).

Never had one bad experience at Journeys. Always a warm, friendly welcome from Marina. The food has always been cooked to perfection by Amy and explained to us as served. We are both Pescatarian and the fish and vegetarian options are always delicious. Great choices of Wine and fantastic Cocktails. We have only been in the evenings and the atmosphere is always intimate, cosy and relaxed. A really great small restaurant find in Eastbourne.

I enjoyed my first visit here this evening after a recommendation and I will be back! Amy & Miranda are the perfect hosts! A delicious selection from the 'Small Plates' and a great and varied selection of wines by the glass and bottle, both well-known favourites and more unusual choices to tempt you. The Taster Menu with Wine Flight looked amazing (next time!) and wonderful value for money. I was made to feel welcome from the moment I walked through the door! A great addition to Eastbourne's culinary scene! Thank you both and see you again soon!

My girlfriend and I came to Eastbourne just to get away from London for an evening. We ate at Journeys and Marina and Amy made us feel like we were locals! The wine list has about 80, hand-selected bottles and you can tell that Marina knows her stuff! The food was divine - but of course it was given Amy’s Michelin star background! Would absolutely recommend - best dish was the Salmon brûlé!

Fantastic new addition to Eastbourne food offerings. Absolutely adorable wines and tasty meals. The owners are very friendly and know how to look after customers. All teething issues are now fully resolved.

Fabulous food ,wine and service

It was a lovely small restaurant. The lady was super warm and friendly. The scallop was beautiful and tender. The sauce for the scallop was a little bit too sweet for me and the grilled vegetables were a little bit overcooked and loaded with oil. Otherwise it was great experience.

It was a real joy to eat here. The emphasis is definitely on customer service and home cooked produce. A good small but very good menu, along side a varied wine list. This wine bar is a little gem offering a wonderful and friendly welcome, great wines and simple delicious food. The fish tasting board included home cured salmon, garlicky prawns and mackerel rillettes. The cheese board was tailored to our tastes and was simply sublime. I will definitely be back to sample more wines and try the tasting menu. Journeys is just what Eastbourne needs and I will look forward to my next visit!

This fantastic bistro wine bar has recently opened. Each dish, which can look simple on the menu, is exquisite. If you don’t want journey to Rathfinnay, Right Bells, Ramm inn, then this is the place for great food.

This newly opened bar in Eastbourne is a must do place for those who appreciate a fine wine with the most amazing menu on offer! Try the in-house made bread… it’s incredible & well worth a visit for that alone! The owners are so welcoming & knowledgeable in their field… we chose to go with the sommeliers recommendation of wines with our food choices & we were not disappointed! If we lived in the area we would frequent this bar quite a few times a week! Don’t walk past this place, pop in & sample the amazing wines, menu & service…you will be glad you did 😉

Girls night at New restaurant/ wine bar. Amazing small plates, perfect to share with wine and friends. All freshly made to order, must amazing racclette potatoes! Great wine selection, even alcohol free champagne which was lovely! The enthusiasm and passion for service by the owners was over flowing, will definitely be back. Taylor’s is a lovely little wine bar in Eastbourne town. Superb location for meeting with friends. Run by the most lovely, down to earth couple who always make you feel welcome. I would highly recommend this great bar for a delicious red wine 🍷 Pinot Noir all the way!!

Taylor’s has quickly become my favorite place to relax and socialise in Eastbourne. It has a fantastic location just near the station and Little Chelsea. They have an informed and tasty selection of wines and sell bottled beers, cider, Aperol Spritz and coffee too. The cheese and meat platters have quality ingredients, are well portioned and come with lovely freshly baked baguettes. The clientele, and the staff especially, really make for a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I usually socialise in bars with friends but I would feel comfortable going for a glass of something here on my own too. They have now also started to do wine tasting, acoustic evenings and bottomless brunches so I will most definitely be back. If you are in Eastbourne, enjoy good wine, accompaniments and company then you must visit Taylor’s.
