Junior Poon in North Somerset

A trip here is always a treat. We are local but don't go often. Plan to change that. The food is excellent, recommend the lamb starter and the chilli and salt beancurd starter. Mains were sweet and sour pollock and the peking sliced pork with celery and onion. The special fried rice was great. The staff are kind and attentive. Looking forward to our next visit already. There is also a lunchtime special for £12.95.

It was quite dreadful, bland, and poor-quality food. Reheated rice and chicken sweet corn soup tasted like dishwater. £3.95 for a small glass of water-down diet Coke—WOW!

Very friendly staff, tasty food. A lovely treat. Plenty of choice on the menu and the staff were very attentive. Wil definitely visit again.

It has been a long time since we last visited Junior Poons. How good it was to come back. My wife and I chose from one of the set menus with a couple of additions, it was a special occasion after all!! From the moment we walked in everyone was so kind and welcoming. The menu consisted of spring rolls, seaweed, crispy lamb, chicken and that was just the first course. My absolute favourite of duck and pancakes came next. Sweet and sour chicken, beef in ginger, prawns the list went on. This definitely wasn’t everything. All was cooked to perfection. The place was buzzing so is obviously still as popular as it used to be. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Thank you to all at Junior Poons. We’ll try and not leave it so long until our next visit.

Dined here for a family birthday celebration, found the owner rather unfriendly whch was disappointing, food ok but not as fabulous as it has been in the past…shame!

Beautiful food in a lovely atmosphere. We had a great meal here yesterday. Every dish was tasty and arrived to the table really hot. We had a round table which makes it so much easier to chat. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful. I particularly loved my beef in ginger and spring onion with noodles. The beef was really tender and there was lots of ginger. A lovely fresh dish. My mum wanted sweet and sour but cant eat batter so they made her dish without batter. Thanks again for a lovely meal.

We first ate at this restaurant on a trip to Clevedon several years ago and sought it out again when we made a long overdue return to the town. We enjoyed another excellent meal - and again on a Sunday evening - with friendly service throughout. The set meal for two (Option B) was just right for us and with the crispy duck cooked to perfection. We’ll be back again for sure.

We came together as a family because of various birthdays. It is a favourite place of mine because Steve and I used to come for lunch regularly. I had never been in the evening before, but it was absolutely brilliant. The food was great. The staff were so lovely, and for Junior Poon to come up and say hello, was very special. Thank you. We will be back!!

Really lovely meal. We came here with age range from 8 to 70 and we all enjoyed it. The staff were lovely and friendly and food was yummy. We had a set meal and then added to it and there was no issue with this at all - they were happy with us requesting this. The starters were the highlight, and obviously the kids loved the duck pancakes as well!! Only negative was a beef dish on the main, it was pale brown so I guess boiled rather than fried, but that could just be my preference. Really good chinese

Very disappointing visit to this establishment. Menu choice was poor and portion sizes were a joke. Rice was severed cold and over done... Such a basic thing to get wrong. Don't mind paying £13/14 a dish if it actually tastes good, but unfortunately we found the food very underwhelming. Didn't finish our meals and took 20 minutes to get the card machine to pay the bill or we would have been in and out within the hour. Service was ok, but no check backs... Maybe they don't want to hear the truth. We eat out at least twice a week at other establishments across Bristol/North Somerset and this is by far the worst. Why anyone say this is the best around baffles me, will stick to the local Chinese takeaway in future.

This is without doubt the best Chinese restaurant in Bristol and North Somerset. We have been regular visitors since 1997 and we have always been greeted with warmth, fantastic service and amazing food. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are simply wonderful. I cannot commend this restaurant highly enough.

Two couples went to the second sitting of a New Year’s Eve meal function at this very well respected Restaurant that has been in Clevedon for over 30 years. The Staff here are very friendly and happy in their work and have a good rapport with the customers. The Staff also got ‘the pace’ of the meal exactly right and the various courses were well presented and delicious. The food is good, very good in fact both in quality and sensible portions, The small Disco afterwards in the Cellar Bar rounded off a really enjoyable and memorable New Year’s Eve .

Once again Junior Poon comes out with five stars, service, food and ambience are the tops and how people can find fault with this restaurant is beyond me, the food is and has always been on all our visits one of the best Chinese meals we have encountered not only in the UK but worldwide as well, Clevedon is so lucky to have this gem of a restaurant, please keep up the excellent standard of service and food and we look forward to visiting you once again on our next visit to Clevedon.

We were informed the food in this restaurant was good, what we weren’t informed was how cold this restaurant was. I can’t remember the last time I was served a cold plate. We tried to warm our hands on the table warmer but it gave off a very soft glow we put our bowls to warm on there. Everyone in there was saying the same and kept asking if the heating was on which it wasn’t. Everyone kept their coats on including us. Staff were good although slightly embarrassed about temperature. Nothing was done to rectify temperature. Sadly not a trip I will be repeating. Cold plates cold food cold temperature. Cold atmosphere. When we asked for desert we were informed they were too busy to serve hot food so only cold deserts were available. Just summed up the evening. We spent over £100 on two courses to experience . Not cheap but good quality cold food, which would have been so much nicer if it was hot. We would have expected (on a very chilly October night) to walk into a well heated restaurant sadly not. We will not return,

We visited junior poon to have a nice romantic lunch and we were not disappointed. The food was outstanding, the staff are friendly and it’s a nice small quiet restaurant. Really enjoyed it and the quality of the food is fantastic.

We rather fancied Chinese and the top rating 3/30 on TripAdvisor encouraged us here. An upmarket Chinese restaurant on a lovely road in town with an attentive and pleasant crew. Generous food portions, and good quality. My starter of plump New Zealand mussels almost main course size. Whilst the food was good it wasn't exceptional. Reasonable prices bearing in mind the quantity, a wine entry price of £28. White tablecloths and decent napkins. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

This restaurant is absolutely top rate. The food was wonderful. The lamb and garlic starter would be part of my last meal on earth. The staff were fantastic. Evie and A were polite and friendly. The Manager (owner?) was also chatty, making us feel very welcome. Big juicy prawns and a gorgeous chicken in black bean sauce. Really made our night. A must go to place in Clevedon. We were fitted in at half an hour’s notice. The manager was very flexible and helpful in setting aside a table for us in an otherwise full restaurant. Service was excellent with a special mention to waitress Evie who was kind and helpful. The main courses we chose were pork with celery and mangetout in spicy sauce, and also lemon chicken. Both tasted very fresh. Will definitely visit again.

This was the best Chinese meal I have had in a long time. We selected a set meal and swapped out one item which the restaurant was more than happy to do. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The courses arrived an acceptable time apart. Of the starters I enjoyed the seaweed. The crispy duck pancakes may have benefited from more curtains spring onion but this is me being picky. The special rice, mixed vegetables and beef with spring onion and ginger very tasty. Portions were good and as a result we had a little left after eating perhaps more than we should. I will visit again.

Could not fault the staff. They were lovely, professional & attentive. Some of the food was not as I would have expected, for example - bang bang chicken & Szechuan chicken normally have at least a little heat to them, but there was none. Nevertheless, the food was nicely cooked, good quality and tasty. I would visit again, but would choose different dishes.

Mothering Sunday a busy lunch time for the restaurant. Due to Covid we have not visited for sometime. We found there high standards were being maintained in all areas of the restaurant. We had the Special of the day, good food and portions were served. Nice friendly staff with good service. It was a pity to see that they no longer open at lunch time in the week but we can understand why. All around a very nice experience.

Visited yesterday for lunch. It was warm and busy . Its great to see the same friendly team . We had the 2 course lunchtime special which was more than enough for lunchtime and at 17.95 per person good value. There are some dishes with a supplement so it depends what you choose. We had spare ribs, crispy chicken ,king prawns with spring onion ,sliced pork with mangetout which was nicely spiced, a portion of fried rice and noodles. A couple of glasses of wine completed the meal. All really good .

It's clear the energy crisis is already impacting restaurants, especially in older buildings which must be difficult to heat, but for people to have to sit in costs and sweatshirts is not right and will certainly impact footfall. We booked a table and on arrival entered through the basement winebar. Sitting having a drink it was already noticeably how cold the place was but radiators were cold.

This was a great midweek lunchtime venue. We understand supplier prices have increased but to reduce opening times will impact on their longtime customer loyalty. A shame they couldn’t wait to see what would happen.

Went here for lunch on Saturday , we didn’t book , but were made very welcome and seated in our favourite table in the window. Service is really good Lewis and is colleague we’re both good. We chose from the lunchtime special. The starters crispy spicy chicken and chicken with pepper and chilli. Both really tasty. For main we had stir fried pork with mange tout and celery with a spicy sauce , very tasty. The other was crispy beef, not my choice , good but not my favourite Chinese dish. Egg fried rice and a couple of glasses of merlot and chardonnay made a very pleasant Saturday lunch. Nice to see it was quite busy .

I haven't been to Poon's for many years since leaving the area but was pleased to see they haven't lost their touch. I couldn't get a booking during the discount period but it was still very busy a few days later. They have hand sanitiser inside the entrance and the staff were all wearing transparent face masks which was reassuring. The food, as always, was very good and the staff very attentive. It's a shame the food warmers were not used as per normal but I understand this is a C19 issue. The upstairs dining room was also a bit too dark and not in a cheery mood way. Better lighting please Junior for those of us who can't read menu's in low light!That said, always a pleasure to dine at the best Chinese restaurant in the area and I look forward to my next visit! We booked last minute but are regulars at JP. Put downstairs in bistro area and grateful to be out somewhere after five months we were really looking forward to a family evening out. The service was poor and communication problems meant as we later discovered, the arrival of starters and main meals all at the same time. We started eating to find our food was cold . I asked for a heat tray (usually given) to keep our mains warm as the starters had clearly been sitting while mains were prepared. I was refused due to Covid and we began eating cold starters. I mentioned/ suggested that we should try the mains believing that maybe they would be hot. They also were cold and had to be reheated one dish even had raw vegetables. We asked for this to be changed and eventually the dish was replaced.Just in time for our departure. If I had wanted a take away I would have ordered one. At least I could have saved myself the petrol and ensured it was hot before eating. Ive eaten here many times but don't think Ill go back. Poor service poor food and poor show.

I have left reviews before for JP’s restaurant. We have been many of times and every time we have had a lovely meal. I believe this is the only restaurant I have been to where I have never had a bad experience. This was our first meal out since Covid started. The staff were absolutely brilliant. It felt totally safe and clean. Food was exceptional as always! Thank you for a lovely evening once again.

We had a great evening at Junior Poon for our 16th wedding anniversary. We’ve been many times over the years and keep coming back for the amazing food and friendly service. This was our first visit post COVID and we felt very confident that the restaurant was following guidance and the staff were very well versed in what they were doing to keep the customers and themselves safe. The changes didn’t spoil the great atmosphere. Our waitress Evie was super helpful and friendly. Thanks Junior for a lovely meal.

Junior Poon’s is back with a bang !! .... we joined friends for Friday dinner (7th August) and immediately noticed the attention to detail in providing a Covid-19 secure environment. The staff took everyone’s safety as a priority but also managed to preserve the excellent ambiance that comes with a visit to Junior Poon’s. This left us to simply focus on enjoying the company and the excellent food. As always the set menu delivered with some excellent flavours, all delivered with super service. Well done to Junior and his team on providing a great post lockdown experience. Go and enjoy it, you will feel secure and well looked after. We will certainly be back !

Been waiting several weeks to go back to Junior Poon. It was really worth the wait great food again and excellent service with friendly, helpful staff.

We visited for a meal on Thursday 30th (table 11) and just wanted to let you know what we thought...As always it was fantastic in all respects.From the welcome from Lewis and the guys upon our arrival, top-notch customer service throughout (nothing was too much trouble).The meal itself was wonderful. Please Pass on our thanks to the kitchen staff.We have to say we were impressed with how safe we felt, with all the Covid safety protocols you have in place. The attention to detail when cleaning down tables after people leave, as well as distancing etc. is tremendous and makes you feel very comfortable.I imagine the visors must be hot & uncomfortable to wear so maintaining a positive and welcoming atmosphere is impressive.All in all we came away delighted over the whole event and experience.Thank you all very much.See you again soon!

Venue recommended by friends. Fantastic meal on Wednesday night. Had Set Menu (B). Excellent food and served promptly. All relevant precautions in place during current pandemic. A young, friendly, knowledgeable and energetic staff team along with a very friendly owner checking all was ok and that customers were happy and satisfied. I will be returning. Thank you

Birthday treat for the 2 of us, first night out since start of Covid 19.. Lovely evening with quality service and really great food. Been here many times over the years, delivery is consistent and never disappoints. As always, staff are very good at managing flow of food and nothing too much trouble. Everything well set -up to deal with current concerns around Covid, tables were well spaced, sanitiser, all staff had face shields and saw staff thoroughly cleaning tables and chairs etc after people had departed. Changes like paper single-use menus, paper napkins etc showed a lot of thought had gone into reducing chances of transmission. Will def be going back soon. Next time might even take the kids :)

This is not the first time we have been to this restaurant, but definitely the last. Took friends and all had D menu. Overpriced at £33 pounds each. Starters overcooked (been sitting there too long...) and the mains - well, very disappointing but particularly let down once again by the fried rice... I judge a Chinese restaurant by the quality of its' rice. Well, this is the worst you can have. I asked for proper fried rice, and when delivered sent it back. To cut a long storey short, the owner told me his chefs cannot cook proper fried rice (Nasi Goring..)The restaurant was busy and as we have seen before, obviously does well but the quality of food.... Shocking!

We were lucky to get a table judging by how busy they were! We had set menu D, 4 courses. Traditional mix starter, yuk sung, duck and mixed mains.The food was superb and so was the service! Friendly staff, all adhering to the guidelines! Without doubt up there with one of the best Chinese meals I’ve had and such a nice touch when the owner came out and had a chat with us - apparently he does this a lot! My self and my wife were at the restaurant the evening before restaurants were told to close. Well, after quite a lot happened in the interim, we went back and it was perfect.Not knowing what to expect as things are quite different, we could see a few changes and it was all done very professionally and you felt safe that everything is being done to protect us all.The staff as usual were very good and are a credit to the business.If you fancy a lovely meal but are a little wary, go to Junior Poon and you will be fine!

We were staying in a local hotel and wanted to have Chinese meal. Having previously eaten at this restaurant it seemed a good idea to go back and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by suitably attired staff with face masks and loads of hand sanitiser's. We were then taken up to our seats on a one way system. Our table was then far away from other tables. The menu was as great as ever with lovely food. Throughout our time in the restaurant we saw signs of staff cleaning tables, chairs, their hands and even the paying machine. It was very reassuring. So a lovely evening.

Very much enjoyed a splendid meal at Junior Poon. We had drinks and starters outside an d then moved indoors for the remainder of the meal. All rules properly observed and we felt safe and well looked-after. A nice leisurely meal with good food.

I rang to book a special dinner for myself and my partner. As it was just after they reopened after lock down, it was nice to be sent menus and additional information via email. As it was a special night they put a candle on the table and gave us a cosy table. The food and staff were great, the wine bar before for drinks was a nice treat too.

It’s great to be back! This was our first meal out since the pandemic and we had a wonderful time. Junior Poon had prepared the restaurant really well with reduced table numbers so we felt at ease in our own space. Service was very professional yet with the friendly style and atmosphere that we love JP for. Food as always was wonderful and we’ll be back soon!

Junior Poon has always been a firm favourite of ours. I have never had better Chinese food anywhere else. This visit was no exception despite social distancing. The food was excellent and the staff attentive. Junior, the owner of the restaurant personally spoke to every table to make sure they were happy. If you are worried about eating out, you don’t need to be here. The tables were spaced out and the staff used PPE effectively with excellent hygiene procedures.Even if you don’t want to eat in, you can order an excellent takeaway to enjoy at home.

What a fantastic evening, Thank you Junior Poons - firstly you can not fault the food, it is excellent, I can’t wait to go back, and they catered for my gluten and diary allergies.The precautions for the CV19 new way of eating out have been taken very seriously, and we felt very safe eating there with our children. The staff are hard working and so attentive. We preordered on the day via email, again a great recommendation to reduce contact.Can’t recommend highly enough.

I have long been a fan of Junior Poon so for this anniversary I took my Wife there for the evening.In these strange times it is reassuring to see the attention to detail in the Covid19 readiness and you do feel very safe and wonderfully relaxed.As is usual, the food is of a consistent and high quality and served with total professionalism by the team. I must mention Leuis , who was an excellent waiter and made the evening a pleasant experience alongside the rest of the team.We will certainly return and would recommend everyone to visit and enjoy.

We have been eating at Junior Poon’s for more than 20 years and it never disappoints, we were lucky to eat here just before lockdown.The good new is that they have opened their doors for takeaways, a little more expensive than your run of the meal takeaway but worth every penny, a real treat to have such quality food that you can take home. Here’s to another 20 years of fab takeaways.

When you eat at Junior Poons you get great quality fresh food, in modern surroundings served by well mannered,attentive staff.Louis always remembers our drinks orders and our favourite food and it’s touches like this that make a difference.The staff are a credit to Junior and it clearly shows that he takes good care of his team!!We love Junior Poons, coming from Liverpool good Chinese restaurants are in abundance, and Juniors is our only go to restaurant when we fancy a Chinese here in Bristol!

My husband and I have even to Junior Poons many of times. This time, we went with our friends for a birthday treat. Our friends hadn’t been before and they were so impressed. From beginning to end, the service we received was fantastic. The waiters were Sarawut and Alfie. There was also a trainee young lady. All 3 were brilliant. They couldn’t do enough for us. We had: schechuan chicken, crispy lamb, spare ribs, seaweed and prawns to start. Then we had duck for intermediate. For mains we had sweet and sour chicken, beef in black bean and sliced steak in Chinese sauce. All of the dishes were delicious. Sarawut was also very kind and pointed out that some of the meals would work out cheaper if we did it on the early bird offer. He kindly sorted it for us so that it was the best value for money for us. We had a brilliant evening and our friends thoroughly enjoyed the birthday treat. In all the years we have been visiting, we have never had a bad experience. Thank you for a lovely evening again!

Whenever I visit Clevedon eating at Junior Poons has never proved to be a bad idea! Very quiet on Thursday lunchtime and as always we had a delicious meal and first class service.

The longevity of this restaurant must be due to lack of competition, it is certainly not attributed to food or service.

The entrance in winter is down some steep steps and through the cellar wine bar which is strange as you have to negotiate your way round the staff fetching and carrying plates once you come back upstairs - I appreciate that they are keeping the space warm but it makes an odd first impression. Service is very formal but the staff are very friendly. There are enough vegetarian to keep us happy - plus all the usual things. Food is piping hot, well flavoured and freshly cooked - the portions are large - we wouldn't order a set meal as it would be too much for us. WE hadn't booked but they fitted us in anyway...

Really lovely food and great waiters not the cheapest unless you get there for the early bird deal,great for a special meal

I went today and it was the most amazing meal . The staff were very polite and very welcoming . We had a lovely welcome from the start of the night to a lovely goodbye . Overall , I would 100% go again

As we are local to the area we frequently visit Junior Poon's for both business and social meals and all are superb. Friendly and welcoming staff who greet us by name and can't do enough to accommodate us. We've held our corporate Christmas party here for a few years too, most recently in the wine bar and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Great service, lovely food & drink and live music. Our first choice restaurant in Clevedon! See you again soon!

Food average, service very good, prices a little on the expensive side, but still good value. Have eaten in the Ground floor/upstairs restaurant and in the cellar. Decor a 80s throw back and not in a good way. Cellar has a very damp aroma to it, but the surroundings are far better that the main restaurant.. Word of warning never order take out as on busy periods they will not fulfill you order, this happened twice not just once!

Food was great and the staff were really friendly. We chose a fixed price menu with crispy lamb which was lovely. Thank you.

A huge thank you to all of the staff for a fantastic night. The service was excellent, food delicious and a great party atmosphere. The dancing in the wine bar after our meal was great fun. Mr Poon has much to be proud of.

I came here with my partner and friend for a 30th birthday meal. I have eaten here twice before and both times the service and food had been exceptional! On this occasion it wasn’t so great, no member of staff stopped to say happy birthday to my friend (when she was sat with a giant balloon) and I think we made wrong menu choices which we were happy to agree this was our fault. No dessert was even offered to my friend and when the £104 bill came out not even a thank you or complimenty mint.

A table for 23 was set up on the top floor, and we had opted for the £21 each menu. The service was good and the food ok, but due to the numbers involved space was limited and eating difficult.

Good menu for one. Very enjoyable. Friendly staff. Reasonable price. I will return on next business trip in the area.

I went alone for lunch today to treat myself at Junior Poon and had a malaysian meal which was delicious, the cost of this was £8.50. Along with it I had a small glass of white wine spritzer and was charged £7.00 for this - it was not even served in a wine glass. I thought that was a ridiculously high price to pay for a glass of wine!!

Totally recommend this Restaurant with it’s downstairs tapas bar. Always get excellent service from friendly/helpful staff. Menu is vast with lots of different options of meat, fish and vegetarian. Downstairs Wine Bar serves amazing Tapas and live music on a Thursday night. Outstanding

How ever many times i come here i am never disappointed. The food is amazing as good as when i eat in china or hong kong. Service good and always worth a visit for good food

Went on a Lunch Time. apart from our party of four there were only two other customers and I am not surprised ! Starters were unrecognizable and obviously pre-cooked and warmed up. Spare Ribs were dry and meatless and the Sweet and Sour Chicken with dried edges were also obviously pre-cooked and just added to a sauce. Save a great deal of money and go to your local take-away for fresh cooked food. Appalling.
