Konak Authentic Turkish Cuisine in Leicester

A very excellent restaurant, a beautiful atmosphere, good for families, and the staff are nice.

This is not just one of the best restaurants in Leicester but probably the best in the Midlands. They have the best Lamb Sharwama in the Uk. The service is always amazing and it is my sons best restaurant, he is there No.1 fan and it is his favourite place.

On my travels to Leicester I usually go up and down on London Road and noticed Konak a couple of times. And decided I will give this Turkish restaurant a go. I went to Konak on a weekday afternoon. Headed inside a friendly waiter (labelled him in a photo to this review) noticed and served me, I told I him was on my own and he took me to a table. Shortly afterwards he presented me with a menu in a booklet format. For starters I chose the Mixed Hot Meze, the drink a bottled Salgam and the main meal a Ribeye Steak (medium rare). It took some time for my order to come through, and I believe there is a reason for this. When it did come through the starter the Mixed Hot Meze (or how I like to call it now, the Mixed Hot Meme) was near to lukewarm and somewhat disappointing. The Sucuk Izgara was like near edible salty leather (not in a good way), the Halloumi was like eating a soft rubber, the Sigara Boregi just ok but the Falafel was the best out of the four! The price for the Mixed Hot Meze (£17.00) (Mixed ‘Hot’ Meme) is not worth it! In my opinion for what it’s worth it should have been priced about £10. I did not drink all of the Salgam as it was a very Hot day (it was very spicy), and I reckon that drink will go very well during the winter cold days as an alternative to tea and coffee. Onto the main dish, the Ribeye I believe was cooked from frozen. I reckon the chefs took it out of the freezer to thaw the meat. Which took the longest to come out, the middle part of the steak was ok but the edges were like chewing gum. (see photos of the chewed up ‘meat’ to this review) The white sauce that came with the steak tasted bland it had no taste in it. The only decent thing that came with the steak, was the chips. At this point I was not upset or disappointed with the steak, as I don’t usually eat steak on a regular basis. So I am not a Steak expert like Guga from Gugafoods (YouTube). After this I went to the cashier to pay for the disappointing food (labelled him as The Attitude problem guy, see photo to this review), I think he knew that the food in Konak is below par, and he most certainly saw me spitting out the chewing gum texture of the disappointing steak. He asked how was the food? I replied I am not a steak expert and I don’t feel that I can say if the steak was good or not. He retorted to me saying that you should not of ordered it medium rare (in a very rude way). I was like staring at him and thinking to myself I have not made a negative reply about the place yet!.......................apart from this review. After this I’ve read other reviews of Konak Leicester on Google maps thoroughly, and it turns out that there are reviews who have a negative experience with “dark browned skinned Indian guy” and I believe he is the same exact person, I’ve also had unpleasant experience with. (please read other reviews from Lilly Montrose, Tim King and AAA IXV) In my opinion I think there are better menu items with Konak, if there are people who are reading this review. I would suggest to stay away from all of their steaks. And lastly be very wary of The Attitude problem guy (the dark skinned indian guy with the silver framed glasses)

quick to be seated, and quick to take our order. Everything was top quality, had the Konak Special and Hot Mezze - they gave bread etc. as well to begin with… Lamb chops were chewy (only thing I’d change) They gave free tea and baklava after which was so nice

Very very good place The food is very good, at the other end of the world (this detail is really subtle), we drank Erzurum tea with kitlama sugar at a very reasonable price. I recommend all Turks in this region and those who are curious about Turkish cuisine to visit.

Have been a customer of theirs for years spanning before Konak itself. With this in mind I can honestly say that their service and hospitality is unparalleled - always look out for their customers. This can be seen in their staff too. The food is fantastic. Perfectly balanced and a delight with each mouthful. Portions are perfect. It can get quite busy but it all adds to the overall atmosphere! Been a while but will 100% go again.

Popular, friendly and respectfull, honest resturant. Came tea time, parked round corner. Had a mix of Chicken and Lamb. Would have liked some salad with the meal. Fresh meat.

We thought it was the Konak restaurant, which we came to with great pleasure, and we knew it was not so, with my wife and children. The owner of the restaurant was not there for a long time because he was sick. We realized that the employees did not like us. We went for dinner on that bad day, Friday, 29.11.2024. The waiters coming and going were disturbing the table. While we were drinking our tea, the children and my wife brought the paper in front of us asking us to pay our money and took us off the table... All the way to New Zealand. We are travellers, and we have never seen such rude behavior. Rude people were not polite at all. It saddened me that there were Turks. They are the ones who value respect. Employees can be given a lesson in politeness. If not, if they cannot develop politeness, they can hire new employees to work in the restaurant. My wife, my children and I ourselves. We couldn't come, we ate with our money, they always treated us as if they had given us free food. We felt very bad. People looked at us and humiliated us, asking what was happening to us. It was done.. We couldn't understand it.. If you are going to sit with a clock, you have to hang a sign on your wall in the restaurant. Let's read it on your wall. If it suits that, we will enter, if it doesn't, we will leave.. We were already kicked out from there rudely...

The yoghurtlu sarma beyti was sooo good, and has now become one of my favourite dishes ever. I ordered the pide as well which was okay. We also got complementary bread with dips, tea, and baklava which was nice.

Booked a table before a nearby show. Very good food and fast and friendly service. Rarely seen a resturant that busy at 6pm. Next time I'm.the area I will visit again. Would recommend.

The restaurant gives authentic vibes, the atmosphere is very cosy. We had a starter, hummus with bread then chicken shish with rice salad olives and sauces. The food portion is more than enough I took some home with me. Real Turkish ceai, lemonade and coffee. The only minus is they don't sell alcohol.

Our second time to Leicester to watch a comedian. The last time we went for an Indian and was disappointed this time we was going to try a different Indian restaurant but ended up agreeing on trying out first ever Turkish Restaurant. Wow what an experience and delight 10/10 all round from me and my girlfriend and we are even contemplating traveling down just to experience this restaurant again. Amazing Food and service and was quite busy for a Thursday night when we left at 6:30pm. My Mrs is now obsessed with Turkish Coffee as well

Outstanding quality and service. The meat, the bread, and all the complementary items - hands down one of the best restaurants I've visited in a while.

Beautiful space, bright and clean. Great variety of dishes, both for meat eaters (mainly) and vegetarians. The presentation of the dishes is very careful. One of the few shops where I have eaten delicious salads, different from the usual ones. The icing in the end made the difference. The only negative thing is that they presented Greek dishes as Turkish (eg Turkish salad with feta!! which was a classic village Greek salad). I would happily go again.

This place is superb, visited on Friday night before going to De Montford Hall and it’s excellent. Really busy, well priced with excellent food. Unfortunately, we were in a rush but great staff, see the food cooking and it was amazing. Highly recommended when in this part of Leicester.

Beautiful and up market restaurant. Very good location and extremely busy. Staff received our group of 12 and took us to our pre-booked table online. Very polite and friendly staff, and the service was faultless. Food was flavoursome and good portions. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for Turkish food in Leicester.

Food here is great, service and atmosphere is also very nice. The only thing is they don’t support the boycotts that the majority are supporting, I think it’s now September 2024 and if you haven’t made the necessary changes then you’re either in support of Zionism or turning a blind eye to the people of Palestine.

Loved loved the food here! Stagf were amazing, quick to help. Toilet facilities were really cleaning.. we came on a really busy night so it's understandable why the food took a while to come, but I would come again alot if I lived nearby.

Food was very tasty. I do think for the price the portion size and presentation could be much better. Hope kitchen staff tale my suggestion on board! Recommend if coming with friends or family.

The food tasted nice. Whereas a friend thought taste was average. The portion size was very very small considering the price. We ordered £78 worth of food and it was not filling for 3. I've been to places where we have ordered more of the same style of food for half the price. On the bright side, the service was good and relatively quick. But good service doesn't negate price value. Personally would not go again. Mainly due to portion sizes being very small and not worth it.

A bit noisy because it was packed, but very fast, polite service from our young lady, she was very attentive, even looked after our extra guest on arrival. Food magnificent example of good Turkish food. Clean plates and full bellies. Nice tea afterwards too. Well done.

Best doner/shawarma I had in the UK. Staff are friendly and attentive. Each dish I had is prepared in good portions, with quality ingredients and tastes amazing. My favourite is Lamb Shawarma. Real Turkish Restaurant Halal Food Center In leicester

I recently dined at Konak to try their Turkish cuisine and my experience was pretty average. The menu offered a variety of good Turkish dishes. The appetizers, like the mix meze and mix hot meze were good, and the bread was fresh and warm. However, the main course was a miss. The lamb kebab was not well cooked and very chewy and the chicken was a bit dry and lacked enough salt and spices. The salad sides were ok. The wait time for our food was longer than expected, especially considering the restaurant wasn’t very busy.

I recently visited this restaurant and had a mixed experience. Upon arrival, we had to wait 20 minutes for a table, as none were available. Once seated, we inquired about steak options and were told they had steak. However, when we ordered, we were informed that sirloin was not available. I wish they had been more specific initially. Additionally, I ordered the lamb shawarma, but it was unavailable, so I opted for the lamb shish instead. Despite these hiccups, the food was good, and we enjoyed our meal.

We had a family get together and decided on a Turkish. The restraunt was getting busy but the staff maintained their friendly approach spending at much time with customers as they required. The food was well cooked and presented with pride. We will certainly visit again.

One of our all time favourite restaurants. Absolutely love Konak. The food is on another level, the manager / owner is always very welcoming and his father makes the best shawarma ever! We love Konak and make the 50mile trip often just for this meal and evening out. Worth every pound as there food is amazing.

Lachmacun was delicious and fresh. The lamb shish was hard and chewy. Adana kabab was the best. The complimentary bread was hard and stale. I would pay for fresh bread rather than complimentary old bread. Service was very nice . Went for lunch in a weekday . Prices are higher as compared to other Turkish restaurants in the city.

Absolutely fantastic Turkish restaurant, cold mezze were delicious with the warm bread too. I devoured my Iskender with chips. Really friendly staff and the restaurant was busy with families, friends and couples!

Visited konak on a Friday night. We prebooked our table on the phone. We still had to wait a short while as the place was jam packed with diners. Despite the busy night, the food arrived in a reasonable time. We ordered the hot mezze platter and a mix grill platter. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service was great too. The prices are very reasonable.

Had great experiences previously but just ordered some Chicken Shish meals and the chicken was still pink and didn’t taste fully cooked. Having to put it under the grill now

Very possibly my favourite restaurant in Leicester, a great place for special occasions. Like a proper Turkish meal, little mezzes, olives, breads, and salads (all delicious by the way) land on your table just before you've finished the previous course, so that the guest is treated to a continuous cornucopia of yummy bites. The mains may be meat-heavy, but vegetarian options are abundant, including the pides (Turkish stuffed-breads "pizzas"). When you finish your meal here, you will also be treated to a very good cup of Turkish tea in a tulip glass with a nice bit of Turkish delight. Prices are fair
