We’ve eaten at Kusaki many times and have always loved it. I’m not sure if it’s changed ownership, the menu has changed along with the staff. While the food was still good, the staff left a lot to be desired. All seemed very young and inexperienced. Very slow to take any orders for drinks, the bottle of wine and glasses were on the counter for ages, so I eventually went and brought it to the table myself! The service picked up a little after that but the three staff basically stood around chatting. They need a manager or front of house person. The restaurant was by no means full on a Saturday night so I would be very sad to see this restaurant close because of slack service.

Kusaki is such a lovely place. The food is always original, beautifully presented and so tasty. We tried a black sesame ice cream that day that was out of this world. Atmosphere is relaxing and soothing and the service is one of the best in town. Special thanks to Alex, who waited on us that day as they were absolutely wonderful!

We enjoyed a lovely meal at this place. Its clear that there has been great care taken in creating the menu, and the food was fantastic. However this place is let down unfortunately by the service. The service reflects the vibe of a casual chain restaurant, but the food prices say 'luxury dining'. We were left waiting around to be sat, and then placed at a dirty bar to wait for our table to be ready. We booked in advance and there were only 2 other groups in the restaurant so they really should have been prepared. Behind the bar was a mess, and the staff's bags and coats were piled up on display. Toward the end of our meal we could hear the staff chatting away about wanting their shift to end and where they were going out after. Totally fine for chain like lounges or somewhere casual, but maybe not for a place like this.

Terrible overpriced “Japanese “ vegan restaurant. Service painfully slow and quite frankly the staff didn’t seem to be interested at all . They sat us at the bar and we could see the whole mess behind the bar , no pride in their work environment whatsoever. The food was mediocre and small portions for the price . First and last visit to this restaurant. If you want a more authentic and amazing Japanese vegan meal I would recommend you go to bonsai plant only 5 minutes walk from this restaurant.

Have eaten here a few times over the last 2 or so years and always been happy. Today was a bit of a let down. The website has got an older version of the menu that was being used about 6 months ago. They no longer have the large plates on the menu which is a real shame as they are what made this place a different option to Bonsai. The tofu Hanlok used to be our fave. All they now have are small plates or sides to choose from. What we had was okay but didn't come away feeling as satisfied as before. The service was a bit flat and not as warm and engaging as usual. Based on this visit doesn't make us want to return. Please bring back the large plate options and keep website up to date for the menu that is in current use. There may be many who disagree but that is our personal preference.

Visited Kusaki with a couple of friends and ordered the sharing sushi platter, a couple of small plates and a few cocktails. I was not ready for what was about to happen. Each sushi was a flavour bomb, especially the aubergine one, and exceeded all expectations. The mayo served with the deep fried mushrooms, the broth of the udon noodles, the crispy bottoms of the dimsums, the bitterness of the burnt garlic of the kimchi fried rice, the creaminess of the Shima cocktail- everything went above and beyond. Every dish had an extra element which added something unique to the dish and really elevated it and distinguished it from the rest. Also this place is vegan! Would highly, highly recommend!

Hi, I came here on a Friday night with my girlfriend and kid to celebrate GCSE results. I was overwhelmed by how good it was and annoyed at how hard it was to find it when we searched for a vegan restaurant. Seems Google puts people who pay the most the highest, you have to wade through plenty non vegan restaurants to find Kusaki. Anyway, this is fine dining at pretty reasonable prices. We tried 4 small plates, one main and one dessert and shared around the lot. Everything was beautiful and very tasty and the service was friendly and impeccable.

We are frequent visitors to Kusaki and it never fails to impress. We've introduced quite a few friends to Kusaki (both vegan and non-vegan) who have also adored it. But it's not just the food we return for, it's the wonderful staff that make the experience all the more special. Do not hesitate to book this restaurant - we loved everything about it - the decor, the welcome, the service and WHOA the food! We chose the Omakaze menu which was essentially a choice of 4 or 6 courses chosen by the chef and change every day - we went for 4 which was plenty for us and spent a wonderful 2 hours in the restaurant. The servers knew so much about the food and were super helpful. We had sushi rolls, drunken rice, massaman curry with tender stem broccoli and for dessert I had a chocolate pebble and raspberry parfait - it was all divine. And all plant based. I thought it was also really reasonable value. We were there for a special occasion and were not disappointed. Thank you Kusaki.

We had lots of food including drunken rice, heritage carrots, something delicious with oyster mushrooms and noodles a bowl of broth with noodles, cabbage and pumpkin which was to die for… and I will never forget that banana pudding with black sesame ice cream. It’s high end and special for a treat. All the crockery and decor are sensory delights including the art works, the lighting is romantic and the music is great. The food is so beautifully presented and we loved the attention to detail, as well as the care from the staff, who let us try the orange wine, helped with our menu choices and put a birthday candle in our friend's pudding! Our highlights included the oyster mushroom karaage (even loved by our friend who normally doesn't eat mushrooms!), the fried nigiri, and the drunken rice which was so good I wanted to get some to take away. First time leaving a not so great review. Food was great! Booked this for valentines 1 month in advance in the “nice room” under the tree. Waited at the door for 10 minutes for someone to even come up to us. Then waiting as they prepared a table for us in a different room by the toilet. They obviously did not know we were coming despite confirming by email twice. We then waiting 30 minutes to be asked for a drinks order. I appreciate valentines is a busy evening, but keeping a table booked 1 month ago should not be that hard. I did bring this up to staff and said “oh ok, I have a table in that room leaving in 20 minutes”.

: Amazing food, amazing venue, amazing service As fully signed up omnivore, I was blown away by this plant powered restaurant - fantastic Japanese style small plates and sharing platters. Also got to try a brand new special of chargrilled watermelon, which was incredible. Great selection of drinks, including some fantastic plum Sake The venue is nicely themed with plenty of space and even with all tables full it felt very private at the table Highly recommend trying, especially for people that may not be so open to a vegan menu normally - this can show what good cooking and creative chefs can do with plants! Overall the service was quite slow but we didn't really care about that and it was nice to just sit in the lovely space. There were clearly issues between restaurant and dining room with dishes routinely going to the wrong tables. Ikigai cocktail - absolutely delicious FRIED NIGIRI sushi - phenomenal KIMCHI TOFU GYOZA - we ended up receiving 2 orders of this although we only ordered 1. The 2nd one had been made accidentally and was offered due to the long wait for food, which was an appreciated gesture. The difference between the 2 we had surmises our experience of this restaurant. The 1st was OK. it seemed either under cooked or like it had been sat out, hard to tell, and it wasn't fried. The 2nd lot was fried and delicious. TOFU HANLOK - nice if underwhelming OYSTER MUSHROOM TOGARISHI SHICHIMI - first off, the mushrooms were delicious and fresh tasting. However, the curry sauce was quite unpleasant. It actually tasted like it was out of a jar and was very disappointing. The udon was not fresh. This was an extremely rare occurrence in that I had no inclination to finish the food. Service - the waiting staff were very sweet - thank you.

My second visit and definitely not my last. As a vegan it is so lovely to be able to take meat eaters to a restaurant where they come out as happy as I do. The small plates in particular are delicious. The soup, the carrots and the mushrooms were particular favourites with all of us (we ordered one of each of the side plates and shared). The pear desert was really good too. And the cocktails! The service has been wonderful both times I have been. The first time I went was during the week so it wasn't super busy but last night was Saturday night and it was full. There aren't timed sittings so we didn't feel rushed. It was a lovely atmosphere but unlike so many city centre restaurants, you could still hold a proper conversation and hear yourself think. All round a fab experience, thank you

As with its sister restaurant Botanique, Kusaki excels in crafting innovative plant based food and drinks. Alongside its stunning interiors and interesting cocktails, the menu offers a diverse selection of experiences from sushi through to massaman curry. Wish I could give it a 4.8 because so many dishes are amazing but the chickpea sushi is stogy and the corn fritters are good but not necessarily worth the price for how small they are. It's taken me far too long to get to Kusaki, but last night I finally ate there after a film at the Duke of Yorks and made up for lost time! We ordered six smaller plates between the two of us, to try as many different things as we could manage (an extensive amount of larger plates are also on the menu). The Inari Tofu Pockets and Kimchi Tofu Gyoza were highlights, but every plate was fresh and delicious, with a few sauces that had me rudely using my fingers to finish them off. First time dining here, a double celebration. Warmly welcomed and seated promptly. Was given plenty of time to decide what we wanted to drink and food order was taken at the same time. We found service spot on not too slow or fast just right for us. Mocktails were lovely and we had a selection of dishes between us. Hubby had some vegetable tempura which we found a tad greasy. Sushu was delicious. Son's had a cauliflower dish which was also delicious. I had the katsu curry which was lovely but would have preferred tofu to the sweet potato, with the rice was a bit carb heavy for me delicious all the same. I never normally eat a pudding but on this occasion i was tempted as they sounded quite interesting and different. I chose the pear tart tatin which looked and tasted stunning, a fellow diner was that impressed that she came over to ask what we had ordered. Overall really impressed and definitely will be visiting Kusaki sometime soon, thanks 💚

A group of five of us visited for dinner. Three of us shared small plates and sushi, which were mostly delicious. The aubergine was too intensely salty for our taste. None of us had tried Japanese curries before, and we were surprised by a dish of sauce with just rice and quite a stodgy large sweet potato fritter. No other vegetables in the curry. Perhaps just us not knowing what to expect but not to our taste - much prefer other styles of curry - now we know. Service was haphazard. They explained near the start that dishes come out when they are ready, not to a set time, and that was fine but at least three times we waited so long we had to remind a server of our request - and one of these was for a drink, and one was for the bill, so nothing to do with the kitchen. The two desserts, both cold, no time sensitive cooking required, came so far apart that one friend had finished before the second received hers. Conclusion: some interesting flavours and ideas, all plant based. Not everything works and the service needs to become as efficient as it is friendly.

Wonderful vegan sushi restaurant in Brighton that we found off the Michelin guide. It was very quiet on a weeknight but such a wonderful atmosphere and beautiful restaurant and felt quite relaxing. The food was delightful, we went for the sushi platter so that we could try a bit of everything. I would definitely recommend also getting the tofu sharing dish which the name is escaping me. I usually don't care for vegan sushi because a lot of times I find that the rolls taste very similar because their all veggie based, but Kusaki rolls had such flavor and really different taste profiles. The cocktail list was short but the drinks we got were all delicious. The service was a bit slow at times, having to ask for additional drinks and for the bill. Hard to catch an eye sometimes, but we were in no rush so no problem for us there. Definitely go visit whether you're veggie or not - will not disappoint!

This place was very disappointing for us. We had udon soup, curry and rolls. The rolls were ok, but didn’t have any flavour. We couldn’t finish out main dishes (both tasted bad), and when the waiter asked how the food is, I mentioned the sour taste of udon but they tried to convince me that the taste was good. I didn’t ask for a refund or to change the option, so we paid and left. The atmosphere is good though.

I went there with my partner. The food was exceptional but the service very slow. We would have ordered more food but we decided to leave early as we got fed up.

Incredible food and coctails, with an intimate atmosphere. Absolutely love it! Epic sushi and miso soup. Bonus points for a vegan location that isn't junk food in Brighton.

Kasturi is 'take away' only but this is the best curry house in Watford for a take away! If you have any specific requirements, just give them a call and they'll sort it. I can only speak as a vegetarian, but seriously, this is the best Indian / Bengali take away in Watford. 😋 🥘 🔥

We were in Brighton for our wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday. We went back to Kusaki twice. Super friendly staff. Alex, Andrew, Gwen and Bram went above and beyond to make our visit super excellent. Gourmet Japanese food that is exceptional with an explosion of tastes. Staters, mains and dessert are sublime. We had mocktails which are so refreshing. Highly recommend Kusaki on every level!

I really liked the atmosphere and service but I felt that the food didn't meet the proper Japanese standard. The rice was a bit too hard in the core, and the grains weren't as chewy as what it should be. This was the case for both the sushi rice in inari and the rice in curry. I wasn't impressed by the udon in the udon soup as well; it reminded me of a brand of packed udon I had, and they both have a very distinct hint of rubber-like taste. I felt that the topping was lacking too. The dashi tofu was great, but it would have been even better if it was soft tofu. Overall I liked the food presentation and vegan concept, just wished they could be more authentic.

I’ve been here 3 times now and it’s perfection. Lovely serving staff who are helpful translating the menu. The food and drinks are so tasty. Lovely cocktails! Even as a non-vegan, I prefer this over standard sushi and other Japanese restaurants. A little Brighton gem!

Absolutely amazing food. Beautiful.plates. lovely presentation. We had the tempura vegetables, tofu pocket for starter. Udon noodle stir fry and one of the Currys. It was all so tasty. Staff are very friendly. We got the lovely spot underneath the blossom tree. Prices are very reasonable and portions are just right. I'll come back again and try more.

Sooooooo so good. Lovely owner, delicious food. Would highly recommend the miso soup and cauliflower crispy pieces, and the red curry! Don’t remember any of the names sorry - but was so good!

Love the ambiance, the service is always great and the food is something special! Can’t say I’ve tried the sushi the few times I’ve been here but the small/large plates have always been delicious and substantial.

Best vegan experience in Brighton so far. Nice place, nice staff and of course amazing food. Some people complain about the price but quality, like it or not, depends on it and to be honest what we spent worth what we ate. We went out from the restaurant with a big smile on our face, with our belly nicely full and our mood improved. Highly recommend. Well done kusaki.

One of the most incredible eating experiences, the service was rushed though as they needed the table for a reservation. Highly recommend booking and relishing small dish after small dish.

We only popped in here for a quick cup of tea and added a couple of sausage rolls to go with them this morning. A friendly cafe, clean and very good pricing.

Very good standard of food, 2 beef and 1 chicken roast for Sunday lunch. Very friendly and helpful staff. Well worth seeking out
