recently dined at Kyoto Sushi, and our experience was made exceptional thanks to our server, Jack. From the moment we were seated, Jack went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. He consistently checked on us without being intrusive, making sure our drinks were always full and all our needs were met before we even had to ask. Jack was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, answering all our questions with patience and great recommendations. His warm, attentive, and professional demeanor truly elevated our meal, making it one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. I think this is one of the best sushi places in birmingham if not the midlands. Everything is made exactly like the pictures on the menu. Loads to choose from and at £33 a head is amazing value as food is excellent. If you love sushi try it.

This used to be my regular sushi spot for the past 3+ years and I loved going there but unfortunately it has gone downhill. We came for the all you can eat option but the service was much slower than before. We received one small plate of sushi and then had to wait another 10 minutes for every other plate even though the restaurant was less than half-full. They didn’t return our order card so we couldn’t place another order without repeatedly asking the waiters. To make matters worse, they kept bringing the wrong items or skipping some altogether. At one point they even skipped an entire round of our order. It was hardly the “all you can eat” experience we expected. I understand that it’s a business and that prices have been raised and portions have gotten smaller, but at least still let me order the food I want. To say the least, we were disappointed because we genuinely loved coming here.

Great to see the buffet back in action! The selection is better than the previous AYCE choices especially with the bigger variety in sushi and even the hot foods. The Okonomiyaki has improved as well, so unsure whether this is due to a change of chef. The only downside of the food was there was no Japanese pannacotta when it was mid afternoon on a Sunday, so that was disappointing especially it’s limited to one per person. Can’t fault the service as everything was cleared up quickly and drinks were topped up regularly!

I don’t even know where to begin. Our Sunday meal turned what should have been a relaxing meal into an absolute disaster. Firstly the blonde waitress seemed like she did not want to be there, we politely asked for water multiple times and she did not bring any water, I had to go to the bar myself and ask again, she huffed like we were being unreasonable. It looked like she just wanted to just get back to speaking to her friends and scrolling through phone, same with another male staff. I would recommend this place but the management team needs to address some of these staff issues. Overall the meal was really good just a shame about the service.

Heard about this place and was in the area and thought we would give it a try. We love eating sushi and were looking forward to this experience. We opted for the buffet option and were not disappointed. There are two main menus to choose from and even though it sounds complicated, it isn’t. You can only order a few dishes at a time which makes sense as I can imagine people can get carried away and this saves on food wastage. We had an excellent waiter Jack who chose our first round for us as there was so much to choose from! He did a great job and we started picking items ourselves. There is a little wait between the rounds but everything is freshly prepared so that is to be expected. All in all we were very happy with the food and will be back again. My only gripe is that I wish I had a bigger belly to eat more sushi!!

Update - 31/08/24 We revisited Kyoto for another mouth watering feast. We had the jasmine tea again, and two pepsi. Service fell a bit short on this visit, as we waited over an hour to receive our second choices, though the 3rd and 4th came very quick. Food was delicious again, mostly sushi choices with a few of the hot meals later. Old review ---- We opted for the buffet, jasmine tea and two glasses of soft drink. Food was delicious as always. sushi, duck, oysters, tempura, stir fried vegetables, soup, Korean style chicken and finished with red bean buns . Aways look forward to a visit.

The food was good, that I will praise The service was the worst I have had To start, all of our food arrived BEFORE our first round of drinks, no check back and 3 members of staff asked if we had ordered, what annoyed me the most was when I waved a girl down to ask for more drinks she rolled her eyes and her attitude was disgusting, this was the first time I have ever been to Birmingham and I'm very upset about my first meal out in this city and it was for my friends birthday If you want servers who ignore and do nothing, by all means come here 🙄

I was very disappointed with this sushi buffet. The selection was extremely limited, and the quality of the food was subpar. The sushi seemed poorly made, with canned tuna used in many rolls, and the salmon was far from fresh. Overall, the experience did not meet my expectations at all.

It’s the second time we visited here. I think they must have changed the cook. We’re disappointed because the food quality is not as good as before. The choices of food are fewer and the way they handle the dishes is also strange. First, the tempura is not in the tempura batter. Secondly, it’s very very strange that the “grill pineapple” was like putting leftover bits into batter and deep fried. The Korean grilled beef is the only item which remains in good standard. The service was okay. But if I were to visit again I will not order the buffet.

GAVE ME FOOD POISONING!!! Served me obviously reheated cold chicken in their chicken ramen soup. The dish was served to me lukewarm. The chicken was slightly warm but got colder the deeper into the bowl it went. We complained and got it replaced for a new one that was definitely warmer but still had narutomaki that was cold at the bottom. I finished my second bowl but then 20 minuets after I was horribly sick. We informed the staff there who still made us pay over £50 for the meal. The staff were welcoming, and very apologetic about the situation. Service during the meal was a bit abrupt, and we had to remind them to return our order card several times. I am honestly disappointed. For a place with such good reviews I expected a far better meal and service.

We came here last month for lunch and we opted for the set meal option. We ate all that is in the picture. There were plenty of options within the menu and you really get your money’s worth. I personally enjoyed the sushi and okonomiyaki. The only thing I can say is that the waiter forgotten to give us our drink and the refill of water a few times. Also the refillable tea is actually not tea they will use the same tea bag and just refill the water apart from that all is ok. Staff were helpful with the menu options. Overall the dining experience was still good and we were really full afterwards.

I had the buffet option here for lunch at around half 1 on a Saturday and just had to say wow. Everything we ordered was fab. Fast service even on a busy Saturday and the staff were lovely. They walked us through how to use their table buffet menu system so you don't even have to move. Definitely a hit. The restaurant is cash only but there is a cash point at the Tesco on the same road. The bathroom has an accessible stand alone toilet with a wide door but I'm not sure what type of accessible bathroom it is. Wide doors at the main entrance but not automatic and if you are making an evening of it they are night next door to a bar with outside seating so all good for the (hopefully) dry summer. They have plenty of vegan options as well as meat ones and you can pick all your dishes individually. They don't have a children's menu that I saw but there's plenty of options including sides. My only regret is not having enough room to try everything but I did have desert. A thumbs up from me and the other half.

Came to celebrate my daughters birthday with family as she loves sushi and came on a Sunday at about 1.30pm and the place was quiet. Service was prompt however the explanation - delivered very patiently - of the various ordering options was complicated to understand between a la carte, lunchtime menu and all you can eat buffet. However the staff helped us to understand what would be the best value for our group and so we ordered accordingly. One member was gluten intolerant and was offered a special menu but options appeared to be quite limited. Additionally, although the restaurant has a halal sticker outside, we were advised that some sauces used were not suitable for halal so these would be omitted and we were provided alternative sauces instead. As a result some of the food tasted quite bland although the preparation and delivery was prompt and presentable. Most of the sushi, poke and gyōza were excellent, as was the beef bulgogi and miso soup. The banana fry dessert was a hit as well. Would recommend visiting for a different dining experience, but come with time on your hands to get to grips with the ordering system.

The best sushi I've found in the UK They offer unlimited sushi that is made to order from a selected menu. You order in rounds depending on your group size and are not limited to what you can order. All the options are of a high quality and if you have more than 2 rounds you're getting high quality sushi at incredible value. Other products are also available such as soups/sides, ramen bowls and fried/cooked options. I have been here many times now and the consistent quality is worth travelling for.

Never had an issue when coming here. I do miss the old buffet style menu they had as it was easier to finish and eat within your means. The new menu is still pretty great with a lot of vegetarian/vega options too, you are bound to find something you’d enjoy. I have never had an issue with the service, we went on a busy Saturday evening with no reservation and was still seated promptly. The cards were taken whenever we had ordered and food did take a bit longer than normal but it was not the end of the world. The sushi is of course not going to be top level but it was still tasty and fresh. Decent portions for the bigger items too. Would recommend but there are many reviews saying otherwise. Guess it depends when you go and who you have in service.

I am surprised with all of the positive reviews for this place! Unfortunately everything I ate either was undercooked or tasteless. The best thing was the ice cream at the end but that was Limited to one per person! The sushi didn't taste fresh, service took a while to serve food and when asking for knives and forks and straws this took about 30 - 40 mins to arrive! Service charge and cash only. For 40 quid a head I would recommend going elsewhere in brum as there is loads of choice for sushi or other tasty eats.

Kyoto is one of my favourite restaurants. The food is fantastic the staff are great and the prices are extremely reasonable. For the money you are getting incredible quantities of food. You are unlikely to leave hungry or anything short of fully satiated. The food is often very high quality and having gone here for the first time, having never previously had sushi, I am now entirely sold on sushi being awesome. I'm also not bad with chopsticks now.

This is a great place to have good sushi and their buffet menu allows you to have an “all you can eat” experience at a fixed cost. We went on a weekday dinner but still booked in advance (just called them) as they're often quite busy. There is a limit of 2.5 hours for ordering food which is long enough to allow tasting of almost all of their dishes included in the buffet menu. This menu also contains a decent variety of desserts. The great thing about this menu is that all the dishes have photos against them to help you guide visually as well. There is a good variety of drinks, which is separate from the buffet menu. The service is good and fast and the staff takes good care of you by explaining how the buffet menu works and how to place the orders. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for an all you can eat sushi experience as it is good value for money.

Really great food and excellent value. The only issue we have with it is that they don't take card payments. We've been several times over the past couple of years and every time we've been told they don't take card and then they've told us we had to go to go and find a cash machine, which is annoying as a customer. They obviously choose not to take card payments but is an inconvenience and means having a lot of cash on you, especially if you are a large family.

We loved our visit so much. we got the all you can eat menu and used there order cards, they explained how they worked which was nice and actually quite clever. you can get 4 rounds which is definitely enough with how filling the food was. the menus was really easy to navigate and to order . the food layout and presentation was top quality and looked really professional. the atmosphere alone was quite impressive with the feel of culture and the beautiful tree with hanging cherry blossoms.

Food is good if not a bit expensive. Good value if you want to enjoy sushi. Menu outside of the sushi is extensive but a bit hit or miss on if the dish tastes good. We called up ahead and asked if they accepted card payments as our group had forgotten to bring cash. The person who answered the phone said yes. We came into the restaurant and asked the waiter who responded they they only accept card payments after 5pm. We attempted to explain that we had called up 5 minutes ago. The waiter responded with a really bad attitude and just told us to sit down.

Went last week for the 1st in quite a while. Have been about 4 or 5 times in total, and loved it when we used to go. On the most recent occasion that we went, we were very disappointed and feel the standard of the has dropped dramatically. All the grilled items rated the same, almost as though they were just grilled and covered in sauce after. The fried rice was hard, the soup wasn't as tasty as it used to be. The sushi was OK, but am pretty sure it used to be nicer. The lamb and the Korean chicken was nice. Overall we were disappointed on this occasion compared to our previous experiences there.

Sadly Kyoto gone downhill since the last time i been here. Food still decent and quick service. I only had the buffet style menu. Very simple to order. You have a paper with a list of the menu, mark how many you want (10 items for 4 people(be more if more people or less with less people)) give it to the waiter and repeat the process untill you full. Bare in mind now to over order as they will charge waste and its good manners not to waste. Still a great buffet shish style restaurant.

It's OK - pricey for what it is. What is gob-smacking is they advertise an 'all you eat buffet' but then say you only get ONE tiny scoop of ice cream for dessert - then try to charge you £2.40 for each extra scoop - really, really petty - such a shame!

Me and my boyfriend treat ourselves to a Kyoto buffet every month, this place is phenomenal. Food is fantastic, the buffet is absolutely top notch and 1000% worth the money. The manager is amazing she always goes out of her way to help us. I wish there was a Kyoto sushi in every city!

Starting with the positives, the food was excellent. We had the all you can eat deal. The food arrives fresh and the ordering system is very efficient, ordering in rounds of 2 dishes per person with unlimited rounds allowed. The ordering is done via a card which is returned to you after each round so you can order again. Unfortunately the service wasn’t as great. According to the menu you are allowed 2.5 hours with the last round being ordered 30 minutes before close (10:30 on a Thursday when we went). We were seated at 7:45 and therefore our last order should have been at 10:00. Unfortunately come 9:30 our card didn’t get returned to us. The restaurant had started to clear out a little by this point and it became quite apparent that the staff were wanting to close up. Tables were getting cleared around us and the staff were actively avoiding coming near our table. It made us feel quite awkward despite actually having 45 minutes of dining left. In the end we had to go and ask for our card back to be told that we were only allowed one more round of dishes. Arguably, if you’re going to advertise 2.5 hours of unlimited rounds then that is what should be offered. Also, the toilets left a lot to be desired, they were very dirty when we visited. It’s a real shame because the food was excellent and we enjoyed our experience otherwise. If you’re going to go on a weeknight then would certainly recommend booking an earlier table (around 7pm) to avoid this.

The portions are super small and expensive if you are not ordering the all you can eat option. Best to avoid unless you want all you can eat for £29. Food is also average in quality at best.

The quality of the buffet isn't that great so don't expect too much. However it has a variety of different types of food to choose from so can't complain. staff is friendly and service was good. Would I come back? definitely for the lamb chops 😋

It Is One of the smartest restaurants I have been in and the food was excellent fresh and lovely. Just amazing stuff was helpful and prompt. I wish I had some traditional music as well.

I absolutely love coming here, always amazing food and have a great time, me and my partner came here last night and was very happy and pleased with the staff and service, the manager was amazing she gave us a freebie for being amazing customers and really appreciated that little gesture from them, be coming back soon 😊

3 of us went from Leicester. On the way we called the restaurant to book a table and the guy who spoke to us told no need to book as we are only 3 of us and it will be easy to get a table. When we went there they said the waiting time was 15min and we did manage to get a table but the lady told as we did not book a table we will get only 1.30h instead of 2.30h for All you can eat. The price will be same. Only the sushi was ok. We had some soup and grilled items. No tast or flavours on it. Very disappointed. Will not go again or recommend this place to anyone.
