I had heard so much about this restaurant so it's always been on my list. Wins: It's a lovely courtyard setting right by St. Mary Redcliffe Church so soundtracked by the bells every so often. The food was fab (starters, antipasto, pastas, desserts - no pizza but this was no sadness) and was a treat to sit on a sunny table on a chilly day. However: the service could do with a spruce up as could the place itself. Seeing as it was chilly and having never been there before, we asked if we could sit inside. The question was met with a very direct no and telling us there were only tables outside. Then when we asked whether the heater could be put on that we saw under the gazebo, again this was met with a direct no and no explanation. We were with hungry children so decided to sit down on a sunny table. However, again, it would have been nice to have friendly service with an explanation about the place, the menu, the setting, etc but we were left to it and not checked on. Any question we asked them felt like we were inconveniencing them which was a shame as it made us feel unwelcome and awkward. Similarly, the furniture in the courtyard was clearly nice at one point in time but a lot of it has worn down and could do with replacing. That being said, the food was nice and it is a unique setting so with those fixes, this has the potential of being somewhere special.

We went for an early evening meal after being in Bristol all day. Very very disappointed. The lamb small plate was awful, 3 pieces of lamb which were mostly bone, ONLY 2 olives!! and a few luke warm potatoes. The gnocchi was average!! The service wasn't the best and the room we sat in upstairs was cold, not very cosy considering it was a chilly Oct evening... We would not recommend this restaurant. Very disappointed considering the reviews were surprisingly good!

I had the mushroom and stilton stuffed arancini and there was a good amount of filling. Followed by duck ragu gnocci which was delicious. 2 peroni beers which were reasonably priced compared to a lot of places which charge too much. A very reasonably priced meal.

My supper club & I went here tonight what a find! Like walking into someone's dining room, welcoming & warm with a great looking menu. We shared some small plates of Arancini, hispie cabbage, and veg before we devoured our mains. Usually at supper club, we share a table of small plates, but NO ONE was getting their hands on my pasta! This food was exceptional and authentic. The atmosphere was wonderful. Thank you for a great evening.

La Panza is hands down the best Italian restaurant in Bristol. A true hidden gem with incredible value for money. The owner pours his heart into running this place, and you can feel it in every detail. The atmosphere is laid-back, the prices are great, and the food is authentic, simple, and absolutely delicious! There's always fantastic music playing in the background, making the vibe even better. This place is genuinely special, just like its unique location!

We must have arrived on one of their bad days. The food was poor quality. Lamb starter was over cooked, and 90% bone. The Cornish Crab was luke warm with undercooked pasta. Disappointing after other good reviews on here. Will give it a miss in future.

Went for a bite to eat before an event in Bristol, the building itself had a lot of charm and we sat in as it was a rainy day which made the restaurant feel very cosy. We tried the fish of the day and the duck pasta, both of which were delicious, the fish was cooked perfectly. The calamari starter was proper calamari and not just squid rings so I was very impressed. I liked that the menu was diverse but also wasn't too spread out in options as it felt like every dish was well thought out and freshly sourced. Wine selection was great as well, all round a brilliant restaurant. I will be coming back for sure!

Visited with colleagues for lunch. There was a large amount of us so we booked in advance and was advised to make 2 table bookings, sadly we were not all able to sit together (12 of us). Service was ok, but I got the feeling we were seen as a bit of an inconvenience which was awkward. I ordered the porchetta as I'd seen it on Instagram and it's one of my favourite dishes to have. Sadly, it was 2 extremely thin slices which were overcooked and dry. So disappointed, and had I been in a smaller group I might have said something. Instead I left the hard, inedible parts of the meat. The focaccia was very good, soft and springy and how it should be. The pistachio Tiramisu however was pretty decent, it was a good portion and had a lovely flavour and I'd order it again. However, from today's experience I would say that sadly, I don't think I would return.

I had the pasta of the day, it wasn’t bad but it was mostly cream with very few courgettes. It would need more vegetables to give it more texture, you can’t call just cream a sauce. The pistachio tiramisu looked good but I found it lacked taste.

We ate here for lunch on Saturday afternoon and unfortunately the food and service were not the best. We ordered the sharing platter of meats and cheese which were lovely but for £18 it did not include any bread. The bread was 4 small cubes of foccachia which cost £3.90. We also ordered the calamari which was really well cooked. The mains were a disappointment . The buccatini with tomato sauce and the Crab pasta were both so undercooked they were almost inedible. The gnocchi with duck ragu was very rich and quite stodgy. One waiter was really friendly, the other waiter was really moody so we didn't complain. In total with 2 glasses of wine and a beer the total came to £126. It is a shame the meal was so inconsistent as its in a lovely location.

I had very high hopes for my supper this evening, they were nearly met. The restaurant is in an odd location probably not looking its best on a wet-gloomy evening in August but the team at La Panza are very friendly and welcoming. I had the hispy cabbage to start, the presentation wasn’t pretty but it had great flavour with a nice bit of chilli bit it was very salty. Followed by the Cornish crab which was light and delicate, as it should be. Sadly it was let down by the inconsistently cooked large bland pasta tubes, which were very hard in places, they did not compliment the crab. The glass of Sangiovese rose was delicious, I would’ve had more but it’s a Monday night. The service was excellent and I would dine at La Panza again, there are other dishes on the menu I’d like to try.

I went there on a Saturday for lunch with two friends. The waiter told us straight away that they couldn't prepare a few plates because the chef didn't show up that day. (bless them) That wasn't a problem for us. The service though was really slow, we had to wait so long at the start just to get our drinks. Food was fine, the amatriciana sauce had guanciale in jt that was a little bit burnt, but my friend didn't mind. At the end of the meal they brought me an espresso without any sugar or spoon. I asked the waiter for them and waited a while, then, since my coffee was getting cold, I went and ask the waiter for them again, and they apologised and said they forgot it. This wasn't the best experience because I went to La Panza a few years before and we had incredible food and no issues at all. Probably caught them on a bad day!

Thought I’d try the lunch deal. I ordered a focaccia sandwhich but was then told they’d ran out which was fine. Lack of other options so i went with the cous cous salad, which tasted fine but was a small portion and not very substantial. It was £11 in total with a small double espresso. There was some woodwork also going on outside. None of the saws were being used during my stay but just the movement of the materials alone kicked up saw dust which was flying everywhere. Overall, poor value and i was left still Hangry.

Food was nice enough (mainly the tiramisu) but the service was painfully slow and inattentive, despite there being two staff covering at max 4 tables. Somehow took 2.5 hours to have 3 courses as a table of 4. My friend had booked an indoor table given the weather (it was raining) but we were told it had to be outside because they wouldn't be able to check on us inside given that the one other party there was outside... Took a long time for them to take our orders, and then for drinks/food to arrive. Our food arrived before the cutlery so the pasta was lukewarm by the time they had brought out all our dishes (this took an oddly long time between each person's dish) plus the cutlery. We could see inside and could see the two waiters just hanging out, not doing anything. It was such a strange experience.

Appealing menu composed mainly of small plates and pasta dishes (served as a main). They use good quality ingredients and the cooking was sound, except for one dish. I especially liked a porchetta, coming with roasted fennel, and a pasta described as Amatriciana (not quite the textbook version perhaps, but still it was good!). Rice arancini, hispy cabbage with Pecorino and roasted and marinated peppers were also excellent. In a "bucatini" with crab the sauce/condiment was excellent but unfortunately the fresh pasta was badly overcooked. Service is very friendly, but the organization is, as one can also tell from other reviews, a little haphazard. There may be long waits (in over one and a half hours we managed to obtain just a set of starters and a pasta dish each and we struggled to get the bill). At some point they told us they had finished the bucatini and they would use paccheri instead. Then it turned out the bucatini were in fact available. But when the dish finally came it was not neither bucatini nor paccheri but some gloopy long pasta without the "buco". In sum, my suggestion is to go when you are relaxed, flexible and ready to wait a bit - and you'll be happy. The outside al fresco area is extremely pleasant in the good season. Prices are reasonable for the quality.

La Panza was a big disappointment - here's why: Prior to arriving I'd scoped out a few options on the menu, however, only after we'd order our drinks about half an hour after being seated - the server told us that he was out of all three of the options I was hoping for. I felt a bit cheated because this should have been shared when we were seated, not after our drinks order, so we were hungry and already had a tab open. Also, when we arrived, the server seemed a bit off - like, not at all present. We were barely greeted and chose our table. His service was non-existent. Slow. No interaction... and they charge a 10% service charge. Your service better be good if you're popping that on the bill. Food was only ok - tbh, the choice is a bit limited. It seems like everyone was going for the same thing. Also, pardon my lack of italian, but all the ingredients are in italian...i know, this makes me sounds like a mug, but consider when you're looking at a menu, trying to decide and you can only understand pesto and basil in the ingredient list because ham, cheeses and the like all use specific names. Small complaint but still, no one wants to choose something because it's the only option they can understand. My companion also wanted a creamy pasta, which they couldn't do. Almost everything was tomato based...and really REALLY salty. When our food arrived I could tell neither of us really enjoyed it. Mine was covered in parmesan...urgh (at least ask before you cover it in cat sick smelling cheese). And no black pepper was offered, nor did the waiter offer to put it on. Idk but like come on, even a pizza express will come round with pepper and parmesan. It's a small thing but I was getting annoyed...what were we paying top dollar for exactly...? Cutlery and napkins served in a tomato tin too. It felt like a weatherspoons with premo prices. Definitely wouldn't recommend. So incredibly disappointing.

Got the £10 lunch special with a sandwich, a cannoli, and a drink. It sounded like a good deal, and to be fair what was there was very good. Great focaccia. The quality of the food is the reason I’m giving this as high a rating as I am. But the sandwich was very small, as was the cannoli. And the cannoli was only filled on the very ends, just enough to make it look good, but it was completely empty in the middle. So… good food, and if I lived in Bristol I’d likely be back to give their regular menu a try. But £10 for lunch and I’m leaving still hungry? I wouldn’t be returning for that.

A little rough round the edges, in the nicest way possible, Lapanza pitches you into the central piazza of a small town in Italy, with the sounds of 1980s Italian powerpop and classics from the smooth Italian crooners of the 1960s coming from the kitchen. You can have Negroni, or Campari Spritz (a mile better than sickly sweet Aperol), or a range of Italian favourites for an aperitif. For my starter, I chose Lenticchie (lentils and beans with veg cooked in a flavour filled stock). This came topped with crispy greens. Savoury, with a hint of light lemon, and a filling peppery broth, this was a love song in a bowl. My main was Orecchiette Cime bi Rapa ('little ears' pasta, so named for their shape, made by pressing a thumb into pasta dough, with bitter greens from southern Italy, part way between dandelion leaves and brocolli). Sundried tomatoes, finely chopped with black olives and capers added to the flavour bomb. Rounded, earthy, light, fresh and so, so good. Cucina Povera never tasted so fine. This is food for the people. Fresh ingredients are simply handled with well thought through wine choices to make for a perfect pairing. The house wine (a blend from north Italy) was an excellent pairing BTW. There are vegetarian and gluten free options galore, and vegans have a few options too. A peanut brittle pistachio Canolo was a delight to finish with. It may not look like much, but it really is excellent. There's a lot to love here.

During a trip down to Bristol for my friend's birthday, we came here for dinner and I will be honest as always, it was delicious however, small. So usually I do prefer a larger plate of food, or even multiple dishes if it's tapas style, I'm a guy with an appetite, however if you are similar, I'd say this place may leave you wanting more. Food - The taste of the food was lovely, however the portion was small and the options were limited. Also, there isnt garlic bread, but the focaccia was fluffy and light. We were sat upstairs, 6 of us, and it was tight when all 3 tables were together, but not uncomfortable. There is outside seating though for the coming months if youre planning on attending and it's nice weather. My partner is a vegetarian, and unless you like seafood, there's one option, so this was unfortunately a downside for us. The service was good considering there was only 2 on, and food came at a nice speed, we were informed partially through though that we had 45 minutes left, and some hadn't finished eating yet so felt abit rushed. Not sure if this is standard down in Bristol though. Overall, tasted nice and a good price, but for the demand I could see there, they may need a bigger place and a wider menu, or it's perfect for just two of you

This place is it from a decor and presentation perspective. Their drinks menu is very stylish actually. Everything we ordered at least looked good. My main concern is with the small portion sizes of the entrees considering their cost. You'd have to get a small plate + an entree to have a filling meal. The tagliere is a charcuterie board and it comes highly recommended for my group. Definitely enough for 3 people. The cannoli comes in pistachio, chocolate, and from what my friend says, peanut butter. We ordered drinks but I got the wrong one and they were more than happy to replace it with the right one so yeah the customer service here in general is pretty spot on.

Looking at the reviews, we were very excited to go and try La Panza, however, I think we got a bit disappointed with the food and the service. We tried Calamari, Ham and Cheese Arancini and two pasta dishes - the starters really failed the test. I was not a big fan of the Arancini, didn't taste and look authentic. Calamari was not too bad, however, could have been a bit better. When it comes to the mains, we did enjoy it, they were tasty, however, the portion sizes were not filling. On the other hand, we were disappointed with the service, although it was towards to late evening with less customers, the service was very slow, we felt like staff was not even present! Overall, not too bad, but I would not visit La Panza again.

Absolutely loved the pasta dishes we ordered (amatriciana and gnocci) - probably two of the best pastas I’ve had in my life. The waitress was really nice and attentive. The place is small so could get quite noisy when full.

Decent spot for some Italian food 👌 the vibe is quite cool inside! We tried loads of different bits and bobs, all delicious. I’d say the artichokes dish was the favourite. Definitely be back for more!

We went for a long work lunch and had not been before. The food was nice enough but the pasta of the day was pretty cold when it arrived. And the pasta was much too al dente for my friend and probably a little aldente for me. Service was great and it's overall a cute place, but the food is always going to be the most important thing for me on a review.

You can walk right past it, but that would be a shame. Very nice little restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious cheap lunch. Definitely worth a try

The pasta had depth unlike most Italian places in Bristol, the tomato sauce was rich and tasted fresh. A gem in Bristol, should be active on social media more.

Great authentic Italian food served in a quintessentially Bristolian setting: small, personal and slightly curious. The waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable. The calamari was beautiful , the cod ravioli was delightful and the torta al cioccolato was incredible. A wonderful, intimate slice of Italian Bristol.

Can't speak for the food so not given a 1 star, but the hygiene of the place is disgusting. From the moment we walked in they didn't seem to care at all about cleanliness, the place was very dirty and they sat us right by toilets upstairs which STANK. We promptly made our apologies and walked straight back out. Grim place. Would not eat in any place that doesn't value hygiene like this. Update: Scary. After leaving this review, the owner stalked my acquaintances in an attempt to find me. Tells you everything you need to know that they’d rather spend their energy trying to track me down and scare me in changing my review rather than fixing their issues.

La Panza was warm and welcoming to 2 very tired American travelers who wandered in from the Hilton Double Tree Hotel across the street. They were fully booked that night but let us know if we ate quickly they could squeeze us in. The appetizers were good but the highlight of the meal was pasta!

Thoroughly impressed by the ambiance of this Italian restaurant, which is both elegant and spacious, reminiscent of a refined dinner in a tastefully appointed home. The wine and cuisine are truly exceptional. The brined chicken, with its delightful blend of salty and olive flavors, offers substantial, tender, and juicy pieces. The orecchiette is cooked to perfection, achieving an ideal al dente texture, complemented by the savory umami and textural complexity of the fried garlic topping – a splendid choice for vegetarians. Equally commendable is the stuffed ravioli with salted cod. The friendly and attentive staff demonstrate a genuine commitment to both culinary excellence and the well-being of the food. Overall, a noteworthy dining experience.

We ran away from another finished Italian restaurant to come and try this one after I read how they prepared amatriciana. We couldn't have made a better choice. Space Amatriciana!! As in Italy. 14 pounds is a lot for the portion but we are in the UK so that's fine. Really good pasta, friendly staff and informal environment. Highly recommended

We went here on our monthly date night, unfortunately we won't be back. Had heard good things from other people but weren't really wowed by it. It's a lovely little building that has lots of character, we were sat upstairs in one of the two side rooms, our table however was propping the door and just behind us was the toilet. Try having a nice meal with people walking past to pee every 2 minutes isn't the best. Because of this my chair was kicked 6 times be people walking past. And the smell of a toilet definitely didn't add to the romance. The food was okay but nothing to shout about, the Calamari was frozen unfortunately so was chewy, the Arancini's were unfortunately also frozen so weren't the best! The staff were friendly and helpful! Seemed to enjoy working there which is always a bonus!!

Honestly, the best gnocchi I've ever had in my life. Every bite was like jumping into the sea in a very warm day: pure pleasure. Great wine and amazing service, highly recommend!

This restaurant is one of Bristol's gems! Don't be deceived by the decor - yes, it's neither glitzy nor glamorous and looks quite dated, but the food (the most important piece of the dining out jigsaw) is AMAZING! The menu is quite small, in terms of how much is on offer, but La Panza seem to take the approach of less is more. Whilst they don't offer oodles of choice, they provide astoundingly tasty, freshly prepared food (and the other benefit of a small menu is not having to agonise over choice of dish). Service was great, too, with our host being a fun, friendly and thoroughly nice guy! We ate here on Tuesday evening, at about 6pm. It was very quiet, but this didn't detract from the service or quality. Seating is either upstairs or outside, so this could impact diners with mobility restrictions if weather is inclement. Vegetarian options are available, but I cannot comment on whether the menu extended to vegan choices. They seem a really pleasant bunch, though, so I'd say just ask! I would not hesitate to recommend La Panza, and we will DEFINITELY return next time we're in Bristol.

Food did not feel very great in all fairness. It did not have that completeness and harmony of flavors that makes up excellent food. I had duck gnocchi and I could reproduce the same quality dish in my kitchen with ready gnocchi bought from store and perhaps a duck sauce from supermarket as well. The place, atmosphere is super nice, though. I recommend going and checking for yourselves if you have unlimited time and resources :)

Did my 21st birthday in the games room here with a large group of about 60 people. The staff were so accommodating in setting up the event and super helpful throughout the night with all of my guests as well. Would definitely recommend this venue for any large gatherings! Thank you very much Joss and Paul :)

It’s located in the old city part of Bristol and there are lots of space to sit. Coffee was delicious although a bit pricier than in other places and they had 2 vegan options (banana bread and a flapjack that was also gluten free)
