La Rueda - Clapham in Lambeth

Avoid!!! I went after many years to this place with a group of friends to dance and listen to Latin music, when I arrived it is £10 the entrance was fine but when I went to the bar to buy my drink they charged me for the service charge every time I bought a drink!!!! How can it be possible for them to do that!! I understand that if they are serving you at the table, but in the BAR where many only enter to have a drink it is a ROBBERY

Great ambiance and amazing live music

In on the Christmas set menu; group of 8. Three and a half hours to get the food. Starter I had the scallops; well cooked, sauce not fantastic; a 7. Main I had ribeye steak; steak was good, few vegetables, few potatoes; I'll give a 6. Pudding; apparently cheesecake; did not taste like a cheesecake. Some kind of cake/ slice you'd get out of tesco/ aldi/Costco; was very poor; flavourless; a 1 for me. Time it took to get the food a 1.

I visited La Rueda Clapham yesterday for a work Christmas party, and while the atmosphere and authentic decor made a positive first impression, the overall experience left much to be desired. Our booking was at 7:30 pm, and although the restaurant was busy, service was incredibly slow from the start. It took a considerable amount of time for staff to take drink orders for our party of 12, and tapas orders came out sporadically. Despite providing our full order 48 hours in advance. One item had to be sent back for being overcooked and inedible, and the Gambas Al Pil-Pil were a major disappointment. They tasted rubbery, like low-quality frozen prawns, with garlic haphazardly added. My main course experience was no better. I ordered lamb chops with potatoes and requested garlic mushrooms instead of padron peppers due to an allergy. However, my plate arrived with the peppers still on it, which was careless and concerning. The lamb was overcooked and very fatty, the potatoes looked anaemic, and the mushrooms were bland, with a strange sauce and raw garlic slices. To make matters worse, one veggie paella from our pre-order were forgotten, and we were informed they would take another 50 minutes to prepare. This delay led my colleagues to cancel their orders entirely. Feedback on the seabass from others in our group was similarly poor, likened to frozen, boil-in-the-bag fish and not the expected grilled kind. The only highlight in terms of food were the paellas that did come. The black squid ink paella, was well-received by those who tried it. Despite the shortcomings, the atmosphere, live music, and festive vibe were enjoyable. However, the restaurant seemed overwhelmed, resulting in subpar food and slow service. Several colleagues had visited La Rueda last Christmas and had positive experiences, but this visit was a letdown. Overall, while the ambiance was pleasant, the food and service did not meet expectations, leaving me disappointed. I won’t be returning anytime soon.

I loved the food and the drinks and also gave us some free bread because they forgot about it so they said it was on the house 🏠 🙃 so sweet also the service is very good 👍 left a 10 pound tip ;)

A superb location, very good delicious food, I strongly recommend the affordable prices for 4 people, I paid £97 for food, drink and dessert and I also received some special drinks from the house. The superb romantic location, I could say, the staff very friendly. The food was delicious, I ate everything, it was the first time I tried Spanish food. I ate Paella with chicken and seafood, tempura cod, tortilla and grilled squid drink and dessert churros and tiramisu. We received some special drinks from the house I RECOMMEND 100%. JOSELINE. La Rueda used to be my family’s go-to Spanish restaurant since 2019. We have dined and ordered there a lot of times. We loved its authentic flavours, especially the paella, which was always a highlight. However, our recent visit (our first this since last year) left us deeply disappointed. The menu has clearly changed, likely due to a new chef, and unfortunately the quality of the food has not improved. Paella, the signature dish of any Spanish restaurant, was a letdown. The chicken paellas were overly wet and mushy, resembling risotto more than the classic dish we expected. To make matters worse, the service was subpar. Despite ordering one chicken paella and one seafood paella for six people, we were served two chicken paellas instead. Mistakes happen, but the waitress not only failed to acknowledge her error but also tried to shift the blame onto us, claiming we had only ordered chicken paella. A simple apology or confirmation of our order would have gone a long way in resolving the issue. The croquettes, once a favourite of ours, tasted off, maybe due to a new recipe or ingredients. Whatever the case, they didn’t meet the standard we remembered. The only saving grace of the evening was the 50% discount, which softened the blow of an otherwise underwhelming experience. Had we paid full price, the disappointment would have been far greater. After years of fond memories at La Rueda, it seems the time has come to find a new favorite Spanish restaurant. The charm and quality that once made it special are sadly no longer there.

The staff are super friendly and helpful, they immediately made the atmosphere lovely. The food was tasty with a wide variety to appease all. They currently have a 50% off on Mondays which is a good way to taste test all their dishes!

Very awful service, double booked our table, the guy came back 3 times to take our order, waited there for 1h. Very dismissive and rude. We ended up leaving without eating! UPDATE: The restaurant left a comment asking me to email them to understand our experience more. After two weeks I never heard back from them. Suggests to me that they don’t care about customer service!!

The waitress from Hong Kong was super nice, but the bartender from Barcelona should stick to making drinks and keep his relationship advice to himself. Very unprofessional.

Went again on Friday and the food is consistently excellent - the seafood selection in particular is worth trying and I usually get the seafood paella or seabass. The restaurant has been in the area for decades and the decor, atmosphere and service are all good so I would definitely suggest visiting if you haven't been

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. Special shoutout to the new menu—it’s packed with exciting options that really showcase the best of Spanish cuisine. If you’re looking for a true taste of Spain in London, this is the place to go! Decent food, great atmosphere. The pluma with gravy was amazing. The bartender made a delicious “surprise” cocktail and after 11 there was a live performance which ended the night perfectly! Buen sitio para hispanohablantes.

The restaurant has an amazing vibe and colours make it aesthetically pleasing , whilst also feeling authentic. The venue is very tidy and I was able to have a meeting/family reunion whilst not hearing other people conversations. Amazing! The staff were polite and I was seen within a few minutes of seating as they respected the arrival of my party. 10/10 would come again and was surprised to find food discounted on my bill. Very amazing experience at the restaurant, with Ashley being very gorgeous and friendly. Got to try the new menu, which was delicious. The ribeyes were cooked and seasoned very well, and the peppercorn sauce was delicious. The tapas, while sometimes a small portion (3 rings for the calamari) were very tasty too. Besides that the food was stunning and very flavourful, especially the seafood paella which was amazingly done and comparable to ones in Valencia. A small shame that the £3.20 cokes are syrup cokes from the tap, and a bit lacking. A lovely restaurant overall though and cannot wait to visit again.

The restaurant is ideal and the food is generally very good. I recommend: the pluma iberica (a real fantasy, I felt like I was eating it at home) and the paella (a surprise because I've never had any rich paella in London, and I've been living here for 4 years). My favourites: the patatas bravas and the croquettes, crispy on the outside and super creamy on the inside. Disliked: the omelette, overcooked and the onion was not done. The atmosphere was great and the music was Spanish. We went on a day when it was full, so we had to wait a long time, but they gave us a pitcher of sangria for free.

Loved the steak and sea bass!! Was really really well prepared and beautifully served! Bravo to the new chef from Madrid! Service was also exceptionally warm and caring. First time in La Rueda, but planning to come back!

The restaurant interior was amazingly decorated and great for photo taking. The service was alright being served and looked after promptly. Although the food was definitely lack of flavour! I found Spanish tortilla was bland and potato texture was bit hard as if just boiled. The aioli sauce helps a bit for the flavour. One thing I enjoyed most was the grilled squid where it came whole piece where the meat was tender and juicy. Paella was so disappointed! Saw some photos before where there were mussels on top and looked so presentable. Nothing for ours. The rice was bit bland once again and I can’t taste the seafood broth freshness blend into the paella itself. It was a bit soggy when I ate the dish, not much texture to chew. Just my experience at this restaurant with the new menu. Hopefully these things can be approved for future customers.

The service at the entrance is terrible. You want to have a tea and they leave you outside on the terrace because they say that "the restaurant is full" and the restaurant at the published time only has two tables, practically empty. 2. It took them 20 minutes to come to take the order. And another 9 minutes to bring a tea, and after 4 minutes they bring you the bill without giving you the option to order anything else, and without asking, with the restaurant empty. In short, "customer service depends on how they see you" is terrible. At least that was my experience.

I use to go here all the time as a child and then as a young adult, this place always had good food but I did joke with my siblings that after almost 30 years the menu was exactly the same. I was lured back to go with my fiancé as there was a an offer going as there was a new menu, unfortunately it seems like some damage was done in doing this, the service was clumsy and the wating time was really bad, and sadly some classic dished were no longer, the pulpo a la Galicia was a tentacle instead of the original style, I remember this plate use to be amazing with fluffy potatoes and generous chunks or charred octopus but it is no longer like this, we also ordered calamares, there were 5 pieces on a plate. The croquets were nice.. The bread was half bugette not even sliced and a tomato salad that was nothing really just tomatoes cut up, a bit lazy. I think the new direction is more casual, this use to be a bit more of a special place, so it should at least have bigger portions and more care. Anyway in the end we waited 40 minutes to pay was not offered dessert or a drink and then got charged the wrong amount so we had to go back and fix it..a shame really.

The excellent quality of the food is surprising considering how cheap the prices are. We enjoyed a luxury meal with impeccable service. The paella was packed with seafood and had an intense flavor (£18/person). The Iberian secret was incredibly tender, and the sauce was delicious @nerea.iglesiasss

Went during their Soft Launch revamp where there was a new menu and head chef. Although the front may seem unappealing giving impressions of being a bar, inside is very warm and welcoming. Classic Hispanic decoration and colours with a lovely surprise to the fantastic music. We decided to get one of each tapas given the soft launch. Each were enjoyable potentially apart from the cauliflower in batter mainly due to a lack of seasoning. Spices did get quite repetitive as the dishes continued to come to the table. It would be nice for the Tapas to be adjusted in price/quantity for the number of people at the table; with many coming as a 3 individual units, it became a battle who got the best tapas! Would go again in the future but not jumping at the bit.

Interior of the restaurant was lovely however service and food was disappointing. The music was too loud to have a conversation, the waiters ignored us multiple times and things we ordered never showed up. The pan con tomate was just a stale supermarket baguette, the squid was inedible and undercooked and the food was generally lacking in flavour.

I have lived in Clapham for 17 years and passed this restaurant on many occasions but never really ventured in. Finally decided to give it a go and boy am I glad I did. I love Spanish food, particularly paella, and the seafood paella didn't disappoint. My friend had the chicken paella and raved about it too. I wasn't planning on having dessert but our tapas starters were SO good we went for dessert too. I went for the leche frita and it was to die for. I left La Rueda full and satisfied. I will not be leaving it another 17 years before I go back. Highly recommended.

Ordered a gin tonic and a Peroni (small bottle 33cl) paid in total £19.80. Absolutely over priced. I paid also for the service charge for no reason as I went to the bar. It's not even the best venue in Clapham. Don't waste your time and monay in this place. Nothing special to spend all this monay in a simple venue.

I paid for service charge even though I went to the bar to collect it , when I went to ask for the service charge off the guy at the bar (which was really nice) said he had to call the manager, the manager came 3 minutes after, and was super rude, he said “ can you stop talking?” When I was explaining the Situation . He did give me a free drink, but he was super rude when he spoke to me. They also don’t ask for id, I know one girl which is 17 and she is here, not the security fault they’re super nice, but the manager Alex is super Rude, and just lets anyone in. Never coming back here again.

Everything about this place is amazing. 03/10 - New manager, chef and menu but still as authentic as ever. Value is unreal. The new roof top bar is stunning.

Went a few weeks ago and the food was great. Management took time to talk to me and my wife and gave us a tour of the building next door which they also own the food was excellent. Went there again a week later and we were LET DOWN BADLY. They have changed chef and the food was terrible. Seafood paella was nothing more than mushy rice with prawns and muscles with shells that could not be opened. I ate most of it because i was hungry. The chicken my wife had was served with chips . no veg or roast potatoes which had been removed from the menu. Never again....the food was terrible....real shame.

A group of 8 of us came last Saturday to celebrate our friends birthday, We ordered a large selection of delicious tapas, great flavours (I lived in Spain for 10 years), washed down with numerous jugs of sangria. Later in the evening much to our surprise, the mood became up beat with a dj playing cool tunes with us and other people dancing around their tables. Great fun,,, ouch my head hurt the next day, but thank you to all the staff..

When it really was a Spanish restaurant, run by Spanish people, it wasn't the best Spanish restaurant in London, but it was decent. Since other people who have no idea about Spanish food took it... I regret going every time I have to fulfill a commitment and they choose this place. I will not return, even if it is at the invitation of friends. And seeing that there are people who still rate it with 5 stars and post photos of what they sell as paella, that you can't even see the rice... makes me doubt that they know what a paella is or maybe they are friends of the owner or comments paid. A shame to see the Spanish flag on this site. They dirty the image of Spanish food.

Still going strong after 40 years

My family and I went yesterday and they were really friendly. Rozhan and Hera were really nice and attentive with us. I really recommend this place.

Pretty awful, £4.20 for bread (literally supermarket bread) served with butter (that isn't Spanish), Tío Pepe a sherry is served by measure as if it was gin.The octopus was cold on the outside and hadn't seen a grill in its life. Everything arrived suspiciously quickly and frankly it had all been heated quickly the the microwave. Pretty abysmal, don't go if you can actually cook or enjoy real Spanish food you will leave with a much lighter wallet and a sour taste in your mouth.

Visited this restaurant on the weekend. Me and my partner had some tapas and grill menu including sea food palela. Tapas were great, very good service, they made sure we are alright and very friendly atmosphere. My grilled chicken was a bit too salty but nothing I couldn't handle. Because of the problem in the kitchen and slightly longer waiting time for our food we have got extra potatoes with grilled veg on the house which was very nice touch. This place is very lovely, very good food and great service!

We came here for an informal business dinner last night. Our waitress was friendly, polite, charming, attentitive... as was the barman. She recommended that we tried a wine before ordering a bottle, which we did, and it was lovely and reasonably priced. Food was delicious. Big portions with a home-cooked vibe - it's not a fine dining experience, but tasty and unpretentious!

Absolutelyna brilliant evening with fabulous food. The service from our waiter, Micos, was outstanding. And considering there was 6 of us and we all ordered something different that a big job.

We were a bunch of friends celebrating a get together in London..our table was outside, al fresco, and we had a very pleasant evening, the service was friendly and efficient thanks to the manager Nico.

Mediocre service. Not attentive. Waited 20 minutes for a bottle of water. I asked for Rice and Salad with my meal, I was told I could only get rice so basically rice and meat. I ordered salad as a side dish, ages later, I was told that there was NO SALAD. There is a supermarket opposite. The chef should be ashamed but clearly takes no pride. I received ONE small tentacle of octopus as a main meal (compare it to the lemon wedge), it did mot taste bad but no sauce or proper garnish.... it was embarrassing. No one else at the table enjoyed their food. I do not write reviews but feel that I must warn against wasting money eating here.

Lovely night in my favourite Spanish place in London Came down again after successful last visit with my Spanish friends who came to visit. Loved the classic tapas and delicious paella. I visited La Rueda yesterday with my Family,there were five of us ,and we ordered a varitety of dishes,my Daughter who was visiting from BVI With my grand Daughter,and is Barister and a DirectorTrust fund company,was appauled by the service delivered to us,It was slow,slapped dashed,small portions,and to top that all, they had no salad,they had, one chef,two waiters who spent all the time chatting,and not serving,anyone ,including myself could have gone over the road to any of the many super markets on clapham high street and purchase two ,or three bags of salad for next to nothing,but the staff were to lazy to do that,how abismal, £198.05 later i left this restaurant dejected and angry that i did,not give them a good telling off, they even forgot to Bring bottle of carbonated water which i ordered at the start of the meal which also took over 40 minutes to arrivre,these people we very poor representatives of your establishment,On leaving the male waiter asked how was the service, I told him that it could have been better,but iwas being polite,as i always am.. I doubt that i will be seen in that Restaurant again..

I recently visited La Rueda on a Wednesday and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the perfect tone for a delightful evening. I started with their incredible aubergines and chickpeas, which were cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor and seasoned just right. The spinach stew was another highlight, a comforting and delicious dish . The drink offer was fantastic, with all drinks priced at just £6 each. I tried a couple of their cocktails, and they were both refreshing and expertly crafted. It’s rare to find such quality at this price point! The service was impeccable –Rob &Hera ,were friendly, attentive, and efficient. The staff made sure I had everything I needed and were more than happy to offer recommendations. Overall, La Rueda delivered an exceptional dining experience. With their delectable tapas, superb drink offers, and outstanding service, I can’t wait to return and try more of their menu. Highly recommended!

Good Spanish restaurant with wide range of tapas and other Spanish dishes.

Our meal was incredible, authentic through and through. The paella Valenciana was superb, and the tapas were amazing, especially the gambas. We went on a day when they had a sangria special, and it was the perfect complement to our lunch. The service was amazing, and the decor of the restaurant transports you back to Spain. The churros with chocolate were really good as well.

Food was okay. The steak was nice, nothing superb. Service was too intense, the waiter tried to be helpful but not really knew what had milk (for deserts) or what had gluten … a bit too much intrusive his approach to me in the beginning. I didn’t ask for a beer, and he brought it, then I said I didn’t want it and he said is on the house… but he charged it in the end. We didn’t try anything Spanish, as we were a bit scared… (we were all Spanish) 😅

Not going back ever again ! The food was alright bit over priced . Not much flavour of the Spanish tapas ! There was a guy called Mario idk if he is the owner or waiter or whatever he is honestly he is too much and the way he takes orders it’s just rough and horrible .

The service was terrible. We ordered a basket of bread and two glasses of red wine and we had to wait over 20 minutes to receive it. We only ordered three dishes and one of them was inedible. We received an extra bowl of bread and they took this dish off our bill. We would not go here again.

We had fried calamaris, aubergine croquettes (which was very different than expected), gambas, and steak. My favorites listed in order (didn’t try the steak): 1. Gambas 2. Aubergine croquettes 3. Calamaris I always thought croquettes were deep fried but this one was not! It wasn’t expected yet I preferred this one more than the regular deep fried croquettes!! Gambas were 10/10, perfect balance of flavors. Calamaris were a bit too hard for my liking but otherwise tasted great. They have a £15 jug of sangria, which I thought was a great deal. Service was excellent, a very energetic gentleman. I’d return.

Went out for a family dinner and the restaurant we originally planned to go to was closed so we looked on the high street and came across this place. The waiter Mario was so bubbly and welcoming and made us all laugh straight away. Food and vibe was great. Would defo recommend!

I can honestly say that for £12.50 lunch time deal is worth every signal penny and every dish is cooked to perfection and made with love. It’s a must try for sure.

Absolutely loved our meal here. The wine bottle ceiling is lovely. It was quiet when we were there but staff were very attentive and good was served quickly (even a bit too quickly for tapas dishes 😅). The grilled octopus was very well cooked and I could have eaten it all over again if I wasnt completely full after our order. Seemed like it was going to get a lot busier later in the evening as many tables were reserved. Would return again.

Amazing place! Arrived there with my girlfriend slightly late and was worried we would miss our booking, but the hostess Sarah was very accommodating and went out of her way to sort us out with a table. Lovely vibe and great food!

Very disappointed arrived on time at 6 was seated after a while standing around, no one at the door to greet. Were given menues and then chased several times to order and told we would have to leave before 8 as we had a child with us. (At this point almost walked out and went to Nandos across the road). Ordered food which took way too long to arrive and when it did it was in dribs and drabs so couldn't eat together. 2 paellas arrived last looked amazing; but wasn't close to how it looked. Seafood paella was over salty couldn't taste what little seafood there was. Best dish on the table was the lamb chops which should have come with vegetables but didn't and when questioned we were told kitchen had swapped for chips as we had ordered chips as a side. We ordered a side because we wanted both. Nice atmosphere, good music, very clean bathrooms.

Sadly like other trip advisor reviewers, my friend and I won't be returning to La Rueda after being faithful customers for 20 and 30 years respectively . We were excited about the make over, and had decided to book have our favourite lamb chops. The prices for the chops were £19 online, £25 on the menu outside and £29 on the menu inside !!! Bearing in mind we were there for a special occasion and the restaurant was empty - we pointed this out and I was sure we wouldn't be charged £29, however we were .. we really should have left at this point. However we stayed as this was a special occasion, and we had been looking forward to this for a few weeks. The chops were ok, I had salad with mine, whilst my friend had veg, which were cold and over cooked. The ''chips'' were deep fried baby potatoes. It wasn't the best, and considering the price, on this basis we will defo not be returning. oh and on top of this a couple of blokes were doing some wood work right next to our table. V disappointing for what was once one of my fav places to eat on Clapham high street, great times but sadly no more.

Best place I’ve been to in a long time. I came in for a quick drink post dinner - the hostess, Sarah, was so friendly and informative. Staff were very attentive. Will definitely be coming back for dinner!

Where do I start. We have been going to this venue for over 20 years, enjoying authentic Spanish tapas, but recently it has been taken over and I am afraid to say I will not be going back. It was given a make-over, but the feel and essence of a Spanish bar has gone which is a shame. We booked for 14th Feb, which I know is Valentines so we knew it would be busy, and they advertised a set menu for £55. But normally La Rueda always allowed normal menu food as well, so when booking a table online, I selected the A La Carte menu and my booking was accepted. But, on arrival we were told this isn't the case and the only food was the set menu. It was too late to go anywhere else, so we stayed. After selecting the starters, Mushroom and Mango croquettes and Tortilla with Chorizo, it eventually turned up and sadly my Tortilla was void of Chorizo so that went back and from then on in, it just got worse. I ordered the Salmon for my main, that came and went back - it was cold and very dry and covered in a brown jelly-like sauce. They served me Lamb Ribs with Apple Sauce (not very Spanish!) and again, it turned up and I sent it back - cold, fatty and dried out - what is going on!!!! We ordered dessert thinking you surely cannot get this wrong? Well, we were mistaken. We ordered the Santiago cake with ice cream... cake turned up but no ice-cream - why advertise it and not serve it. What really annoyed me, and my friends was the fact it was quite busy and everyone there had to have the set menu, but some people, probably the owner and friends where being served Octopus and food from the normal menu - leaving the paying guests with disgusting and below standard food at an unacceptable cost. I refused to pay the full bill, but I still had to pay £80 for the privilege of a disastrous evening and probably the worst meal I have experienced for a very long time. RIP La Rueda of the past, we will always have good memories of you!

They deleted my comments but I remember distinctively . The restaurant was run by Spanish family the food was so good-then Albanian took over. I remembered I asked for a Rioja the woman did not know what it was!!

Unprofessional waiters and staff they took forever to serve food and drink had to go to the bar twice to order drinks they also dropped a bottle of wine on my friend who was at my table did not apologise or clean these top how disgraceful were never recommend this place

Norma makes the most delicious paella in the whole London!

The croquetas are NOT Spanish, this are potato croquette with things. Meatballs are not the classic Spanish ones, different product and cooking, and just tomato sauce from a tin, this is premade, not restaurant produce. Cheap chain food.
