Came in for a takeaway order, was £35 for the two of us to share which was fine as we wanted to try a few dishes, however when we took the order home, which is less than a two minute walk away, only 2 dishes were hot the rest where stone cold from the fridge/freezer, the fish curry was almost frozen fish, Not much point in a takeaway if you have to cook it yourself for that price. Flavour was nice but overall wouldn’t revisit

Probablemente no vuelva.

I went to this restaurant as I wanted to try some Mauritian food a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the best experience. Service was slow and not the most friendly. I was going to leave initially because of this, but I ended up staying as I was keen to try it. I ordered the prawn curry and the prawns were chewy and seemed over cooked. The flavour of the sauce was lovely though, it’s a shame there were some things that brought the experience down. I’m a local but I won’t be back anytime soon.

Absolutely adored this little hidden gem! Family owned restaurant, very chill and relaxed atmosphere, and sweet customer service by all staff. I felt going to the house of someone getting homemade food... it was truly a sweet experience! Everyone was very nice and the food was delicious! First time in my life I've tried Mauritian food and loved it, I was impressed by the Dhaal and really enjoyed the Fried Nuddles... will be back! I also liked the Pear soft drink 😋 I also bought extra Dhaal after eating my meal to get it home for tomorrow 😃

Cosy and relaxed family owned Mauritian eatery. This was for me the first time trying Mauritian food and was blown by the mix of Indian and Chinese flavours. Started with the Dhall Puri with sauces (definitely recommend) and Taro fried snacks. For the main had a "Special fried noodle" with chicken, prawns and egg - a large portion and very reasonably priced. Being here felt like being in Mauritius, this place is very popular with people from there, we were the only non-Mauritian. The family owning the place was super kind and chilled. Would recommend the experience 👌👍

Longstanding no-frills restaurant recommended by the Mauritian diaspora in London. Huge menu selection. On this occasion a friend and I ordered a takeaway for four of Halim, fish curry, shrimp bol renversé, fish and beef brianis , dal puris and of course some gâteau piment. It was all decent and spicy. Drinks-wise, thé venue is not licensed but there are plenty of Pearonas and faloodas. It’s a bit chaotic inside space-wise, as there are a lot of telephone orders coming in and only one small laminated menu, but it’s best to think of the experience as dining in somebody’s front room with food lovingly prepared by somebody’s mum or aunt.

Really disappointed with this place, we have been waiting 4 years to come here as my husband is Mauritian and everyone mentioned that this place is very authentic. As we walked in we were completely ignored by the two middle aged men behind the counter, and to my suprise there was a sign on the toilet saying 'out of use' so I couldn't even wash my hands. Everyone in the restuarant seemed very quiet and I could understand now as they were waiting to get the attention of the man serving. Finally after waiting 15 minutes got up and asked him about the food choices, he passed me a very limited menu and when asked to explain he proceeded to tell me that is it on the menu. When we ordered dhaal puri he asked one of us to pick it up from the counter, and refused to bring it over to the table. I thought if the food is amazing I will give an amazing review and let people know that the owners are very rude... But this was not the case the dhaal puri was completely tasteless and the fish biryani was like chewing gum it was sooo dry. I left the majority of my food and left swiftly. If anyone knows of any Mauritian places that are warm and beautiful as the people of the Mauritius are, please please let me know as travelling two hours for this was not what I expected at all...

Discovered Le Chamarela few years ago and been ordering Mauritian Biryani (tried chicken, beef and fish) over the years for birthdays/family gatherings. This time we ordered the special fried noodles. When we came to pick up, my boys were starving in the car so we sat down and had the dhall puri (yellow pancakes) each and it went down a treat. It was nice and warm on a cold day and brought up nice memories of my teenage years eating dhall puris by the roadside in Mauritius! The noodles were ready at the appointed time (ordered the day before by phone) and they were lovely for the party

I can only imagine that the one star reviews are from owners of other restaurants. It's even more likely that these Mauritians have been offended by the owner's unsmiling demeanor. Or even MORE likely, if you're Mauritian yourself, you'll know that plenty of Mauritians cannot but help bring their own people down when they're quite clearly successful and very good at what they do. Jealousy is not a useful trait. Visit this little restaurant with confidence. Over the last 3 years I've eaten various dishes from the menu: different versions of biryani, min frire, du riz frire, the different legumes, and - my favourite - bouillon crab, which was absolutely incredible. Come to think of it, I've had several curries at Chamarel too. I am also guilty of having eaten every single one of the desserts they have on offer, buying the puddin manioc far too many times. Even the salads and pickles are perfect. I am Mauritian - my grandmother and mum cook Mauritian food every single day - there is no way anyone can say that this food is not authentic Mauritian food! The gateau piment is so good that it's as though you've bought it from a street vendor in Camp Diable! It only feels expensive because in Mauritius we're used to paying 12 rupees (about 30p?) for a pair of dhall puri so paying £2 here seems expensive. But it obviously isn't. Visit Le Chamarel and see for yourself! I'll be there (again) very soon.

Whoever is posting 5 star reviews of this place and saying this is “excellent Mauritian food” either don’t have tastebuds or don’t know what Mauritian food actually is. Absolutely appalling service, trying to charge us extra right in front of us, thinking that we didn’t understand creole? And the food wasn’t even worth it, not even in the slightest. Cold, dry, flavourless food. So disappointed that this is the Mauritian cuisine you are trying to sell to people. Not a good representation at all - with not only your food but also your behaviour and attitude. As a Mauritian, i’m embarrassed and EXTREMELY disappointed of the owners of this restaurant and the standard of the food… or lack thereof.

Absolutely disgusting!!! The Mac and cheese looked and smelt dangerous to eat, the rice and peas was just dark brown rice and smelt like it’s been sitting in someone’s backside. The roti tasted nasty.! I spent over £30 on food I cannot eat because I’m scared that if I do I’ll end up in hospital or dead. The food is sitting on my counter top, I genuinely feel to take this crap back to the restaurant and demand an explanation, are you seriously mocking the people with this food??? Look at the picture so you can judge for yourself… that’s mac and cheese by the way, just in case you thought it was a sour salad cabbage with melted cheese on top. I felt so violated that Deliveroo won’t refund me that I messaged the CEO 🤣 how am I paying over £30 for garbage and I won’t get my money back. I’ve been robbed, in broad day light. I’m keeping my review until I get my money back. P.s the food still here, untouched if you want it back.. but then again, this restaurant will probably sell it on again, which has me thinking if this food has been getting passed on for weeks on end.
