L'image in East Devon

What an absolute gem of a place. We were greeted warmly by Helen and offered a variety of seating options, in a truly beautiful establishment. The service, food, ambiance were perfect. All of the staff were friendly and efficient. Another important factor is that the toilets were spotlessly clean and finally, but most importantly, it is dog friendly! I wish I lived nearer, as I would visit this place daily. Thoroughly recommend.

What a great find! The two of us arrived on bicycles but there was nowhere to secure them outside but on enquiring inside (to our amazement) were immediately invited to wheel them through the cafe and put them in the garden (eating) area! (Fortunately, it was around 3pm so the garden area wasn't full). That set the 'tone' for the rest of our experience as the service was excellent, the food superb and the prices very reasonable. We both enjoyed the greek salad which was the best I've had (and I've had a few at different places). In summary, we were made very welcome and the lady that served us couldn't do enough for us. Unfortunately, we don't live nearby otherwise we'd be regular customers!

We came across this lovely place quite by chance and so glad we did. We were greeted and advised that there was also a garden area we could use so we did. Food was excellent, freshly prepared and well presented and came in a reasonable time. Service with a smile and humour by the lovely lady who brought our order. Coffee was very good and stayed hot, we had tasted sandwiches which came with a side salad and crisps and can honestly say it’s probably the best toastie we have ever had! A hidden gem.

What a lovely place to have lunch! Quality food, nicely presented in pleasant setting. Friendly staff and reasonable prices too. Simple menu but all better than average ingredients. Highly recommend.

We have been going to Limage for lunch for a few years, we live in the area and cannot fault it. The service is great, they do delicious toasties and wonderful cakes as well as a variety of other dishes. Relaxed smart interior and shop, always tempted to buy something. I cannot understand the couple of negative reviews but I suppose that is always the way. Nice outside courtyard seating area if sunny. I can thoroughly recommend.

A very elegant coffee house, our welcome was warm and friendly. Our order was taken quickly and our drinks and snacks arrived in good time. The ladies working here were very efficient and you could tell they took pride in working here. Would have given 5 stars if I had not used the gents which unfortunately did not match the rest of the establishment.

We just popped in for a drink and a quick bite to eat. The lovely ladies serving were polite and very friendly. Service was excellent and we felt right at home. The toasted tea cake and cheese scone were vert tasty and we were given plenty of butter to spread on our goodies. The toilet was clean and I would happily return

Fantastic in every way - food, service, atmosphere. Food tastes just like homemade, the staff are friendly, efficient, attentive (contrary to a previous review, they absolutely do *not* 'faff' at all!) and the setting is really lovely - they don't cram the tables in, it doesn't get overly noisy thanks to the high ceilings and the general vibe is very relaxed, like being in someone's fabulous living room. What more could you ask for?

This is a fabulous place! All the ladies working here are so friendly and helpful. The lunch prepared for my sister and I was totally delicious and served quickly .L’image also sells nice homeware and women’s clothes. Highly recommend!

Best coffee in East Devon! Charming pretty garden, friendly staff, delicious food and we left with a couple of purchases from their stylish range of clothes and homeware. Delightful spot and one to be revisited soon.

Web site and trip advisor both say open on a Monday. This is very irritating particularly if it is your birthday treat. NO NOT TRUE

Popped in here for a hot beverage and took up the option of a snack, whilst visiting the lovely Budleigh Salterton. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I was lucky enough to get some of the comfy seating, and the wood burner was lovely and warming. The beverages were lovely, and the samples of cake we had were delicious. I caught a glimpse of the sandwiches being enjoyed by some other people and have to say that they looked amazing. The portions were very generous. Definitely somewhere to stop in for refreshments if you're in the area.

We visited, on a dull cold winter day with our dog.We were warmly welcomed into the restaurant. Elegant light and spacious interior..fire blazing,comfy chairs..and hoorah magazines and newspapers to peruse.The menu is extensive, from snacks to a gt lunches and breakfasts.The service was friendly..and the food v enjoyable..I would thoroughly recommend this lovely place.

Our first impressions of Budleigh were not favourable, then on the way back to our Sidmouth Hotel we discovered the High Street with its wide variety of individual shops. L'Image is a gem. Parking restrictions allowed 30 minutes for a reviving Coffee and Cake. We made it in 25! Super service, a quite perfect Macchiato. After the Waitress confirmed I recall did want my coffee in such a small cup. My wife opted for an equally perfect Mocha. These were twinned with a recently baked, home made, Carrot Cake. Really moist, not heavy, with perfect icing on the top. It may be their standard uniform, but all the Waitresses - ladies of a certain age - were clad in perfectly fitted, tight, blue jeans. We always visit this cafe when on holiday. Cannot fault food or service. Dog friendly too. Lovely setting and very clean. Owner goes out of her way to accommodate changes to menu. Cannot recommend enough. Absolutely lovely.

Visited Budleigh following a trip to a nearby National Trust property. We were looking for a light lunch and came across this venue by accident. It was a really warm day and the small outside courtyard appealed to us. The food was lovely and beautifully presented. The staff were all busy but everyone was happy and cheerful. There’s a good choice of sandwiches and paninis all served with a very generous salad ‘garnish’. I was tempted by the sweet potato, garlic and feta filo tart which came with a lovely salad and crisps and was really delicious. This place is a tucked away gem and well worth seeking out.

We have just discovered this little gem in Budleigh, such a treat to find the most delcious homemade food, great little courtyard garden and the most friendliest of staff. We visited twice this month and can't wait to go back, we would recommend the ploughmans and their feta filo tart! Open 6 days a week too!

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at L'image. Lovely interior and great customer service. We didn't try the cakes as we were too full but they looked amazing. I had the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel and my husband had the ploughmans, both well presented and delicious. I'd highly recommend a visit.

Fabulous food, reasonably priced and a warm and friendly atmosphere. Staff are great and can’t do enough for you. Definitely will be returning. Great find.

We spotted the cafe walking through the town and were delighted with the friendly service and excellent lunch. My squash, feta and filo tart was served warm with a lovely salad including grapes and skinned red peppers. We would definitely return.

Very unusual setting sat amongst the varied paraphernalia on sale. We opted for a pot of tea and a scone with cream and jam and a toasted tea cake, all of which was very good quality. Deservedly busy .

L'Image is probably our favourite place to stop for coffee or lunch when in Budleigh. The staff are lovely, the combined cafe / shop environment relaxing and it has a lovely outdoor courtyard too. We are always impressed with whatever food we order, good quality...

As mentioned in other reviews, this cafe sells many varied products, but probably best known for its cafe. Tea scones were delicious, ambiance excellent.

I love this place. It has lovely freshly prepared food, great coffee served by a warm and friendly staff (where nothing is too much trouble). I would recommend a visit.

This is a wonderful place to spend some time in Budleigh, providing a calm and relaxing atmosphere with friendly and cheerful staff. On every occasion I have found the toasties delicious and the cakes light and fresh. The coffees are well made and there are a wide range of alternatives, Prosecco in the afternoon sun in the terrace is always a delight too! Whilst clearly a favourite with the locals, visitors to Budleigh are made to feel welcome and I will not hesitate to visit again in the future.

This is a very nice place to have lunch. The day we ate there we had the garden to ourselves and it was a real sun trap. Food and service both good and there are plenty of other goods to shop for whilst there.

Found this place by accident - drawn in by fab.knitwear, stayed for lunch. Soup excellent, smoked salmon bagel perfect, Polenta & Apple cakes each superb. Wine delicious & reasonably priced. We went back a few days later & enjoyed the place again (& bought a sweater!) The ladies running this hit the right note ... & the Italian music playing very quietly in the background was a real treat for my Italian companion.

We were close to giving up as we walked the length of High St, peering into several drab outdated places, when we walked into these light airy premises with welcoming staff and found space in their pretty courtyard.

We stopped there before to attend a Budleigh Salterton Book Talk. My nearly twenty years of professional experience in the Hospitality Industy/ Catering/Commerce/Retail Industries at high level, in France, UK and USA, gives me much "calibre" to see what is of quality or not. L'Image is discreetly classy, the staff are very amiable and courteous, very well presented and the decor is just there to invite pure relaxation. Prefect in every way, very stylish with warm and welcoming staff. L'image serve the best coffee ever. Stay for lunch and have one of their delightful homemade soups with delicious crusty bread, or a gorgeous toasted sandwich with a chilled glass of wine, perfection with a capital P.

One of my favourite places for a coffee and cake- along with The Oak Barn. Coffee is very good and consistently good. I am a regular and I always get a friendly welcome (as with first-timers as well)!

Having tried every cafe in Budleigh Salterton we have hit upon this gem. The coffee comes in sensible sized cups and the cakes are fresh and home made. There is a simple varied menu of a more substantial size. A plus is that the owner and her staff give a warm greeting when you arrive and well behaved dogs are welcome. In fine weather there is a garden where food can be enjoyed. at the rear of the cafe there is an area selling quality clothing and interesting items for the home. A lesson for other establishments!

I went here with my wife for the first time, she is a regular with her friends because she said they serve the best coffee in Budleigh. I’m really fussy about my coffee, but she was right.

We popped in to have some lunch after a walk along the sea front on a brisk day. The welcome was lovely,friendly & the surroundings charming plus we had a super lunch/cake.We will be back when in the area again on holiday.

We walked in hungry and walked out contented. This is the sort of place you'd like in your neighbourhood. Even the staff were friendly.

Superb Lavazza coffee, dog friendly and proper toasted tea cakes! You know the ones, made in a bakery not a factory. AND butter you can spread without putting the nasty little package in your armpit to warm up. Friendly staff and 30 mins parking opposite.

We have a favourite walk that inevitably takes us to L’Image for coffee, teacake and occasionally lunch. It is a delightful place to go with a friendly welcome for us & the dog (even when she’s very soggy like today!) The coffee is always good & the food from teacakes to toasties etc is always good quality & well presented.... even the dog gets her biscuit. There are also beautiful homewares and clothing / accessories to browse too. Certainly our favourite place in Budleigh.

Staying in Buddleigh for a week and stumbled on L'image whilst searching for a dog friendly cafe. We have now been there twice, with a dog, and have been made very welcome both times. The cafe is also part shop, which whilst selling mainly ladies clothing, does also have a good stock of Christmas goods.

Popped in here on the way home from exmouth. Saw it had reasonable reviews. Just got here in time to eat. Had soup, bacon sandwich and smoked salad. All three were very nice. Will come back again in the future.

My partner and I have been regular visitors (at least once a week) to L'image and it's predecessor, Jotty's, for the last 2-3 years. In all those visits we have never experienced anything other than a warm welcome, courteous service, excellent food and beverages (do try their cakes!) and the opportunity for an interesting browse through their boutique collection. All this is unfailingly presented in comfortable, tidy and spotlessly clean surroundings. There are many venues in the town where one can take a coffee break, or a light meal; thanks to Nina and her excellent team, L'image is undoubtedly the best of them.

We live locally and come here often. We like the way the tables are arranged around the lovely clothing and ornaments etc for sale. We have had many lunches here, all have been excellent and the ladies who serve are friendly and polite. I don't know how anyone could rate this lovely cafe with a low score so the previous contributor must be very difficult to please.

We only visited here because Earls had 7 meals to cook ahead of ours and offered us our money back!

Came a couple of times on holiday, and I will return I hope. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, creating a relaxed atmosphere: the place is elegant but informal. There's a nice little courtyard at the back, where I was served a delicious crunchy bacon sandwich. Tea and coffee of good quality.

We had such here, one soup and one salad. Both were really superb, filling, and so fresh, varied each day. The coffee was an Italian variety which was the best I have ever tasted. It's only a fairly small couple of rooms, but very personal & friendly. Well worth the visit, and value too.

We stopped here for a spot of lunch yesterday and it was a most pleasant experience. The staff were very friendly. We sat out in the back garden which was beautiful, designed to make the most of the glorious weather while providing very welcome shade. The food was great - very unusual and delicious soup (Russian kale & chickpea) and the toasted sandwich was made with a most tasty local chutney and salad. I had a glass of the local Rosé and it was very impressive. The cakes and the ice creams (my friend had the rhubarb and ginger ice cream!) were super too - the menu is simple but the food is not run-of-the-mill by any means! All that and the bill was very reasonable. And the shop had some great stuff too!

This is a charming place to eat, with a delicious menu, using excellent ingredients, superb coffee and scrumptious cake. (Unlike many places, you get a decent slice of cake.) The secluded courtyard is delightful; it's a very relaxing place to enjoy a lovely daytime meal.

Decided to have late lunch, and curiosity took the better. An attractive unusual place that is a Café and boutique.The menu is healthy, and includes salad dishes with various meat of choice. Looking at the menu I surmised that the prices are average. My expectations were totally exceeded as I was presented with a delicious full plate of various salad leaf including stuffed olives, grapes, sun dried tomato, etc. The smoked trout was presented in very generous proportions,not just one slither.!!!! also served with bread, butter, and a sauce. Very pleasant environment, staff are very pleasant.
