Maharaj's Lounge in Northumberland

Visited as we’d received a recommendation and were going to theatre nearby. First impressions were excellent, stylishly kitted out and a warm welcome from the staff….then it got even better! Lovely menu (lots of slightly different options too) and when the food arrived it was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. We really can’t fault anything….and we’re pretty picky! I had the honey chicken and it was so so tasty. The portions sizes are very generous too. The service was excellent and the prices very reasonable indeed. I really hope this restaurant thrives as they’ve thought of everything and deserves to do well. We’ll definitely come back when we’re next in the area. Thank you for a superb meal

We used them last night for the 1st time in a few months via their new online ordering system. It was ordered for 7.47pm yet arrived an hour early, which we still accepted from the Driver and just had it early. However, the meals were very small and quality was poor. The Naan Bread ordered wasn’t nice and we won’t be using again unfortunately. We shall be ordering from Asmara in Blyth next time and felt like we’d thrown £30 away with what they served us. Very disappointed and it’s a shame that this had to be written.

Used this Indian Takeaway for a number of years however the last three times we have experienced problems. Last time we cancelled after waiting 90 minutes for the delivery. Tonight half the curry had spilled into the carrier bag as the lid had not been put on correctly, plus the nan bread was missing as the same as previously. Used to be good but gone downhill and we will not use again.

Not visited for a while but decided to visit knowing it had changed hands. If anything it has improved further. Superb food, great service, reasonably priced and beautiful surroundings too.. Shall not leave it as long before we head back. Excellent work by the new owners.

Well, we haven't been here for a while but it was definitely a worthwhile trip back. Amazing food and excellent service. The place has been taken over since we last visited and I have to say the food is much better than it was. Really authentic and extremely tasty. Coupled up with efficient and friendly service. Lovely from start to finish.

First visit to this restaurant chosen for its positive reviews and proximity to the Phoenix theatre. We were not disappointed. We were greeted warmly at the door and served promptly by friendly and helpful staff. The venue is a conversion from an old bank with a stylish interior and well spaced tables, plenty of comfort and character. The food was delicious and extremely good value. Although we don’t live in Blyth we plan to return soon and recommend the place to friends and family.

Was up in Blyth on business amd was recommended to go here by a local. Nice place, very attentive waitress so all spot on. It was tapas Tuesday so went for it. Waitress explained some of the unfamiliar specials. Result was excellent food and service. Would definitely recommend

A bit disappointing. Food came suspiciously quickly indicating that it was microwaved. Not a lot of different flavours. Each dish had over amounts of thick sauce . Food was not bad but nothing authentic or interesting about it. You get what you pay for I suppose!

Due to lockdown we have only be able to get a takeaway from here. Based on the quality and quantity of food we received we will be eating from here on a regular basis. Delivery was quite quick as well. We went for separate curry's each ordered a naan an onion bhaji and samosa no rice but garlic chips. We also received 2 side salads. . We were not able to finish just due to the amount Next time only 1 naan between two and no starter. I tasted amazing. Husband had chicken tika Masala I had chicken badmi.

This was a delivery, looking forward to being able to eat in the restaurant. Absolutley INCREDIBLE food, beautifully cooked, chicken so tender. The textures, flavours cannot be faulted, generous portions and then fantastic service, delivered to the door. So lucky to have a restaurant of this standard on our doorstep. It would be worth travelling miles for however.

Wow, wow, wow. Just lush. We ordered a takeaway of fish karai, bindi Bahji and tok jal mishti and I’m still in heaven every time I think about it. Could be the best Indian food I’ve had in the region....

We were visiting my Mother-in-Law for the first time since lockdown. She's 91 and was desperate for a curry. So no question it had to be Maharaj's Lounge and once again it was superb. The food was excellent, Prawn Bhuna Puri is to die for and the Chicken Podina was spikier than I thought it would be but delicious. M-i-L wiped her plate of samosas clean, cleared off the Prawn Massala and as we sat there full to the brim she ordered an ice cream! Maharaj's Lounge makes the dreary drive from Fife down the A! to Blyth all worthwhile.

Rang at short notice and they slotted our table of 5 in instantly. Fantastic social distancing, super friendly staff and the food was amazing. Will definitely be back, thank you 😊

Ordered a fish curry, normally go to another Indian but we decided to try the Maharaja lounge, what a mistake, hardly any fish in the very bland sauce, the king prawns was ok but expensive, never again !

We went here last Thursday with my Mother-in-law (91) and had a lovely meal. The staff were friendly and welcoming and made sure we were sitting at a table away from the door so that Ma-in-law wouldn't be in a draught when the door opened. All the food was delicious and I was pleased that the starters weren't too big; this meant I was able to finish my yummy Chicken Honey Lapiaza. Himself's Lamb Goshtaba Dhaniwala disappeared like snow of a dyke and was pronounced to be excellent. Ma-in-law really enjoyed her Lamb Korma. I only wish that we didn't live a three hour drive away from Blyth, but hey, maybe that's not such a bad thing; we'd never be out of the place!

We tried the Maharaj’s lounge as our usual takeaway was closed. Let’s say we won’t be back, flavourless, sweet and hardly any meat in the dishes. Really disappointed

This is a lovely restaurant. The staff are excellent and very attentive. The food was absolutely gorgeous. Very enjoyable experience.

Lovely meal last night. Excellent service from friendly and attentive staff. Ideally situated close to good size car park with free parking.

English staff which seems to be happening in many Indian restaurants which results in lack of atmosphere. To be fare it was a quiet night but we are not good at customer service and young staff have not developed any personality the food was placed on the table in near silence. The curry was good but the staff were more occupied with there cronies holding court at the "cocktail bar"..

Celebrated my partners 60th here last night with family and friends, the food was amazing and the staff were absolutely fantastic. All the meals were freshly cooked, tasted delicious, nicely presented. Everyone commented on how nice it was. Nothing was too much trouble and great communication to organise it. Thank you for making it a night to remember and we can’t wait to come back again soon....all 22 of us! I would highly recommend this restaurant....5 star!

Came here for a birthday party and were not disappointed. The service was spot on for a big group and the food fresh and tasty. Give this Indian restaurant a try and taste for yourself. We recommend Maharaj's restaurant for a stomach and pocket friendly night out.

nice meal with good service but i will not go back again WHY ordered 2 halfs of beer with meal when bill came they charge me £5 90p for 2halfs i said its only £3 95 a pint she said on menu it was £2 95 a half of beer .i think that is daylight robbery i will go to another indian restuarant for our curries

My husband and I ordered a mixed biryani, chicken biryani and a peshwari naan. Unfortunately the mixed biryani (which is chicken, lamb and prawn) there was not one prawn in it! It wasn’t the best biryani we’ve had but it was ok but when you order something and part of it is missing is really annoying. On the plus side the peshwari naan was lovely and the meals arrived lovely and hot plus the young girl taking the order has great interpersonal skills.

Food was very good service not so good but very expensive for drinks and the bill never seems to tally up .4 time in a row felt over charged, may be time for a look across the road. Such a shame as the food is good .

This Indian restaurant is ideally situated with good parking nearby. We were raising funds to help eradicate polio and selected this restaurant as the ideal spot to do it. The evening went very well as planned and we were exceptionally well looked after by the Staff and Raj himself. Fabulous food and a good time had by all. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

So many choice of Indians in Blyth and this is by far the best!! Every meal I’ve ever had been amazing, and accompanied by great service. Always look forward to coming home as I know I’ll be coming here!! Thanks guys first class👍

Always amazing service. A lovely restaurant with the best Chicken Chaat and Chicken Pathia I've ever had. Naan's are piping hot and you can tell they're freshly cooked.

Had a takeaway on this occasion but have dined in the restaurant a couple of times in the past. Good quality food, chicken tikka garlic was lovely. Lamb Tok Jal Mishti was nice, perhaps a little bit too sweet for our liking but still worth trying if you fancy something a little bit different.Onion pillau rice and the tandoori roti were also very nice. Takeaway prices are a little bit more than usual but overall a good experience, will definitely visit again in the near future.

Found this place literally on my doorstep..ive never had a bad dish and they do veg options better than most..could still be more though considering the majority of bangladesh and india are mainly veggies.

Went with friends for a celebration meal,throughally enjoyed the delicious food and the very friendly, cheerful service, will definitely return

We got 2 3 course meals on the special menu as a takeaway. I went in to collect it and the restaurant looks amazing inside and was very clean! The staff behind the bar were also very lovely. When we got home and had the food we both said it was lovely but quite plain. We both had chicken tikka masalas and we felt like there was just no kick to the curry at all. It was still very nice but we have been elsewhere since and felt elsewhere had nicer curries.

Went yesterday for tapas and the food was really good will defiantly be back also the price was good for what you get

This restaurant is the best in Blyth. The quality of the food is fantastic and the service from the lads is second to none. We really enjoyed the banquet we had and the surroundings were modern and clean. A real pleasure. Well done.

Old Wills Farm, Feering, Essex. I Needed a dog friendly B&B; near Stanway, Colchester for two nights to visit family. After a 5 hour drive from Northumberland we located the B&B; nestled in the countryside. Jane & John Crayston made us welcome. The only stipulation with regard to my 2 Yorkshire Terriers were that their feet be wiped on entering the house; which I do anyway.

This restaurant ticked all the boxes fur us. Five star scores on the doors Hygiene rating. Good service tasty food in a setting with a unique ambience of a once Lloyds bank. Food was served hot and on hot plates. Great menu catering for all tastes and reasonably priced with an itemised bill that you could read. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Blyth.

We decided to come for the Tapas on a Tuesday night after we had heard good reports. The service and food were exceptional. We were made to feel like royalty. The friendly service from Raj and Ruble was so helpful in choosing our meals. As for the food , it was delicious and we can't wait to come back and try something else. Rated very high for service and food.

Sorry...... but the only decent thing about this place is the Crystal Chandelier.

We have been going to this Indian Restaurant for quite a while but have not tried the ‘tapas Tuesday’ until tonight. The staff were friendly and welcoming as they always are, we flipped through the menu to the back to the ‘tapas’ page. Neither of us were quite sure how it worked but our eldest son has raved about it enough to us. For the very good price of £12.95 per head you get a choice of starter, 2 curry dishes, a side dish, choice of naan or chips with plain pilau rice. We were advised to have some poppadoms as all the food comes together and can take a while to prepare, so we had one each with the usual pickles and chutneys. The food was surprisingly quick and came in lovely small dishes. What a brilliant idea though, it means you can try something different and if you’re not keen you don’t feel like you have wasted loads of food. I had 2 mild curries and the hubby had 2 medium. The choice was very good and it came with either chicken, lamb, prawn or veg which surprised me. All in all a really good meal, we were both full at the end and will definitely come back for tapas again.

We have been a few times and have always been very happy with the whole experience. We visited last night as a family for a special 60th birthday . The staff are so lovely and the food is out of this world . I love going as we always have a fantastic time . Perfect place for a special occasion or a meal out . Wouldn't go anywhere else because we love it at the Maharaj's Lounge . I'd rate this place 100% perfect !

We decided to go for an early evening meal, but had to be back home for the strictly opening show (my wife insisted), so we were one of the first customers after opening, the restaurant is very nicely fitted out and the staff very courteous. There is a wide choice on the menu and what we had was very nice indeed. Service was also good and prompt so we made it back for the tv. We will be going back

The food is amazing, good choice of slimming world friendly dishes, my son had normal stuff & really enjoyed it too, very nice helpful staff.

We have regularly been using Maharaj's Lounge for delivery meals as it offers a health options menu. I am on Slimming World and they have worked together with them to make meals that can be eaten on the diet. I would definitely recommend them.

Were greeted by friendly staff and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The portions were generous and well organised. Didn't have to wait long for food. Would recommend.

Looks great inside and out, and the staff are very friendly. The food is delightful!! Our third visit to Maharaj's Lounge and the food was mostly good as previously. Popadoms were large and nicely crisp but our tray of pickles was tiny and bland.Advertising that children under 12 eat free but in the small print this only applies when each adult purchases a starter and main meal. We didn't order starters, and despite ordering many popadoms and other numerous sundries, and being three adults, we were to be charged £6.95 for each of our two children. This brought our focus to the pricing in general and our meal was noticeable more expensive than our local Indian diners in London and we've dined out on steaks in Blyth this week for less. A children's meal of a curry, rice and naan at £6.95 seems good value until you see the very small portion size, and it would be better value to order the same in an adult portion for two children to share.

This is s fantastic Indian Restaurant. The food here is excellent this has to be one of my favourite Indian Restaurant's,The service is second to none very friendly staff .There's plenty to choose from on the menu every meal I've had had been super tasty and the Goen prawns for a starter are beautiful super hot but very tasty .This is one excellent Indian Restaurant

I stopped in here after picking this restaurant out by previous TripAdvisor comments. I certainly wasn't disappointed. I ordered takeaway which was cooked fresh and arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Portions were very good and the food was flavoursome without being overpowering. If I had found this place the first night I was in Blyth I would have eaten anywhere else!I would certainly recommend here to others :-)

My husband and me come here all the time. Usually with our 3 year old son. It's a really lovely place and has an awesome atmosphere. The staff are great, really friendly and chatty and are really good with kids. Our son loves it and so do we. Cannot recommend it enough, the food is the best! Proper meat in the curry and full of flavour. Definitely worth it!

We went for a works night out and really enjoyed our visit. We took advantage of the tapas Tuesday deal which was great value with plenty to choose from. The food was excellent and the staff were really attentive. Will be visiting again!

Whilst visiting caravan club site at Old Hartley, Seaton Sluice , Whitley Bay, decided to have a takeaway curry. Checked TripAdvisor and came across Maharaji's. I can understand why this is a 5 star establishment. Staff very friendly when taking order over the phone. Order was ready on time for collection. Curry was fab (I had Chicken Achari, very tender chicken in a lovely medium sauce), Pilau rice and Nan bread which was also lovely.Prices are very reasonable too. Can definitely recommend and will return if back in this area.

We eat here frequently and order take away the food is always perfect we refuse to eat any other Indian food now were hooked.

Good varied menu. Excellently prepared and cooked food. Large portions are served - we never have room for a sweet. Reasonable prices. Friendly helpful staff. Great ambience. Situated in the old Lloyds Bank building - the ceilings are high and in cold weather it can feel a little chilly so make provision for this if you're dining early evening. Maybe it 'warms up' later in the evening. All in all this restaurant is worth a try because you'll find yourself returning time and again. They offer a loyalty card that gets stamped each visit and offer £10 discount when completed. They also offer a take away service.

Ten of us Visited for tapas Tuesday. Chefs had to produce a load of dishes to be served at one time. They explained it would take a while as everything is cooked from scratch . Well worth the wait. Perfect. Every dish was beautiful and the quality of the ingredients was obvious

We visit regularly as a couple or with a group of friends. Fantastic hot, fresh food every time. The staff are always very friendly and attentive. Poppadoms and pickle tray is a must while ordering. Beautiful creamy Korma and the clay oven Shashlik tikka chicken is unreal, the portion size is a huge and the chicken is so tender and flavoursome. I am addicted to the yogurt mint dressing! My partner has had almost every curry on the menu and he's loved them all. Recommend the lamb as a meat option in a curry because it's so sweet and tender. Keep up the great work!

Just tried Tapas Tuesday in the Maharaja lounge. Was fantastic, plentiful and tasty food. Couldn't fault anything from the warm friendly service to the well executed starters, mains and sides. Would definately return.

We came to Newcastle for a competition and stayed for a night in a holiday inn. We wanted a nice meal as it was only for a night we were staying and we had never been to Newcastle before so we googled the closest Indians near us and saw this , we read the reviews it had ( they were all goods) and went here , it was lovely the staff were friendly and the food was great. I'd recommend this for you it's a brilliant Indian restaurant!!

We had a second visit to Maharajas, we had a lovely meal the first time, so we decided to go for our anniversary.Firstly we ordered the mixed platter of tandoori, before it arrived we had poppadoms with assorted pickles, very nice, my husband ordered Lamb Sag & I ordered a King prawn curry, the service was very slick, charming,waiting staff, our meal arrived, it looked delicious,his dinner was gorgeous, mine was disappointing, king prawns were so hard, they must have been cooked in a microwave, chewy as hell! It hasn't put me off going back, but expensive prawns should be gently cooked, not cooked like that. On the whole it was a good meal spoilt by the king prawns.

Went out with family in blyth for drinks at weatherspoons got chatting to some of the locals and they recommended Maharajs Lounge for food. Went along and although we had not booked the manager said if we were happy to wait a host while he would fit us in. Pleased we went, fantastic food and really good portions. Everyone was stuffed at the end, really pleased we went. Thanks for fitting us in!
