Great place if you're looking for a quick bite and a drink. I mistakenly came in thinking there was a menu with cooked food on offer. There isn't. It's a cut and paste of the chains with everything in the display cabinets, and toasted if you want, but with a much better selection. I would recommend the toasted muffins if you're looking for something hot.

Popped in for a hot drink as my daughter was in the theatre all day. Couldn’t resist the huge and gorgeous offers. Left with the biggest almond croissant I’ve ever seen. Was delicious too. Went well with the hot chocolate. Quick and polite service. Thank you

Malabar Riverhead is becoming more like a home office space with the best tables being endlessly occupied by customers with laptops using the place as cheap office space, which is a shame because the coffee is good. Just buy a cup of coffee and spend the morning working in the warm. A few polite signs might solve the problem?

Cappuccino that was a latte. I judge a coffee shop by its cappuccino and l honestly received a latte disguised as a latte. Please train your staff to know the difference and know how to make one. I’d also suggest that the time your using to warm up your sausage roll I’d add on another 15 seconds as mine was cold in the middle.

I was really disappointed with the size of the tea and coffee this place serves. We spent £26 on two panini and three drinks. I paid for large chai tea Latter £4.20 and received half a usual cup of tea ( the rest was froff). The same was with rest of our drinks supposedly large size. On display they had take away cups for guidance showing much bigger size than the cups you get if you ordered drink to sit in. When I complained, the response was : “I served what I was told to serve”, No apologies, no understanding. Poor care. I won’t be going back and wouldn’t recommend. Take your custom some other place where hopefully they care about customer satisfaction.

While your food and coffee isn’t bad, I would spend my money with you 10 times more often if I didn’t dislike the decor so strongly. It seems you are the only cafe that hasn’t updated their decor since the 1980s and I don’t understand why. Every other coffee house uses natural wood, lots of indoor plants, large windows for natural light without chunky brown framing and minimalist neutral colours for the walls with the odd arty feature wall but you guys go with brown, beige and orange which as a colour palette is losing you a lot of custom I’m sure. Please invest in modernising your style so I can enjoy my local coffee house.

Malabar claims to serve the best coffee in Sevenoaks. It's the best cappuccino I've found and a cafe I intend to go back to. It ticked all the boxes: good flavour, strong, creamy, generous, served at an appropriate medium temperature and well presented. The service is straightforward - pay at the counter on ordering and none of those awkward "Is that all you're having?" questions. Tempting large pastries and paninis, not yet sampled. Dog friendly. Accessible toilet.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon after doing some shopping. We had different flavoured milkshakes with marshmallows and whipped cream. There were all delicious, I'm looking forward to try more flavours. The food on displayed looked great but we weren't eating only having a drink. We'll be back to try more.

Closed yesterday. Tried calling before my visit and the stroppy staff kept hanging up the phone. I arrived at 9 and asked for one of their standard croissants with a filling. I could see them being made up but not quite finished. I was told I could only have what was already out. I said I was happy to wait for it to be made up. I was told it will be done when its done. Not just lacking in basic customer service but rude and grumpy with it. Its appalling they have not been fired. Get rid of the staff!!

The coffee is wonderful- the best in Sevenoaks. You can usually get a seat inside or outside on a nice day. The cake is good if a little overpriced. My son loves the child lunch box but there could be options for food intolerances (he is dairy intolerant). Likewise there could be a few more vegan options for cake etc. The people who work there could be a bit friendlier but are pretty decent - one of the girls even gave me my change weeks after I’d forgotten to take it! All in all pretty good.

I had the misfortune to visit this cafe today, as previously mentioned the staff are devoid of personality not even a please or thank you. The coffee was terrible one latte and a cappuccino I'm still trying to work out the difference both poor quality, the cheese and bacon muffin was disgusting. I have sent a search party out looking for the bacon that was supposedly inside the aforementioned muffin completely tasteless. I always like to give independent coffee shops my businesss alas I will never visit this place again. So my 20 minute visit cost £15. Two awful coffees and equally awful sandwich and muffin (uneaten) great value for money not!!!

I have been visiting Malabar for years. The owners are lovely and have built a great business but the current crew of stroppy entitled young ladies really lets it down. Their customer service is really poor and you are made to feel like an inconvenience more than a valued customer spending hard earned cash in a tough economic environment. Every time I go in I am told I can't do or have something. They either need urgent training or replacing, fast!

Visited today for coffee and cake to enjoy in the shop but we were served our coffees in ‘paper’ cups (not sure if they were recyclable) and our cakes in paper/plastic bags! I pointed out to the young lady that we were ‘eating in’ and all I got in reply was ‘it’s because of Covid’! Very underwhelming. Surely it’s now possible to wash cups, saucers and plates without endangering life? Malibar has always been one of my favourite coffee places, but won’t be returning until the old ‘normality’ has been restored.

Customer service the last three times I've been in now matches the EXCELLENT coffee! After leaving a review a week or so ago saying I felt like I was an inconvenience to the staff and that service had steadily gone down hill...I must admit I was wrong. Previous review has been deleted!!! Yes, there were a few days of bad service in a row... but ever since last week the staff have been back up to full cheeriness! We all have our bad days, myself included. Also, it's very clear whoever manages the review responses on trip advisor is incredibly polite & respectful - always worth bearing something like this in mind. If a manager is rude on trip advisor to customers who express concerns, imagine how they treat their staff/customers in real life! I can't remember who responded to my more critical review (of three stars) but I remember reading it and thinking 'okay, I'll give Malabar another shot' and I am glad I did!

After a stroll around the town we decided to grab a quick bite to eat. We decided on Malabar as it is a place I have previously visited and like their coffee. Unfortunately this time it felt we were an inconvenience for the staff who were clearly more interested in their conversation with each other than customer service. After finally being served at the counter, the young girl tried to give me the total to take payment three times during placing my order. She clearly doesn't have any interest in the coffee house or the profit opportunities available. A short while after sitting down with my wife the girl at the counter shouted our order out. I looked up but again the staff where busy chatting and not paying any attention. She then shouted out the order again. I then realised that she was shouting so that we came to the counter and collected our order. (This is a very small coffee house and there were no more than 5 other customers in at this point and 3 staff members.) Not at any point would our order be bought to the table. If you like friendly customer service don't go here!

I came with my friends for a coffee the other day knowing that the last time I visited the staff were lovely. However, this time I went the staff were rude and created a very unfriendly atmosphere to be In! The young workforce has clearly changed the values of the café as no one seemed like they wanted to be there, the tables were messy and unattended to, much like the customers. We like Malabar. The range of food from sandwiches, wraps, pastries and other things is wide. The coffee is great and the place has an independent, authentic feel. It can get crowded, because the town centre shop is small, but in summer you can sit outside. They have a good toilet, games for children and two lovely window seats - if you are lucky enough to get them! Prices are on the high side - a large Cappuccino costs £2.95 - so just hitting my danger level of £3.00 - almost. But it's a nice place and one I often visit.

This is a coffee shop in Sevenoaks Town, easy to find near the Saturday market. Inside, it is quite small and cosy. The staff need to be a little more attentive - most of the tables had not been cleared and one table had a bottle of cleaning liquid and a cloth left on it (which the next customers used to clean it themselves). The coffee was nice though, although could have been a little hotter. Overall, just average versus the other coffee shops nearby.

I've been going to Malabar for quite a while now. The coffee is great! As are the yummy cakes and pastries. It's a real shame, that the last couple of times have been...somewhat of a let down. I think this might be due to staffing problems, or possibly due to the fact that new staff have been taken on and haven't quite found their feet yet. The owner is often there, and she seems to run a tight ship and make sure that everything is just so.A few times recently I've had cold toasties and over syrupy freezers, as well as cold coffee. Some of the staff do seem a little unsure and the service is sometimes a little slow, but I think they are still learning, and everyone has to start somewhere! The folk of sevenoaks are a tough crowd to please! So I shall be sticking with Malabar, as I believe it's merely a blip. Salted caramel chocolate brownies are scrumptious!!

One of our favourite coffee shops in Sevenoaks. Very cute shop, delicious food, fast friendly service. Lunch time is always a bit crowded, so be sure to pop in any other time!

As frequent customers, we enjoy popping in for lunch. Lovely Panini's, I can recommend the Brie and Bacon or the Mozzarella and Tomato Panini. The Coffee and the Hot Chocolate is to superb. Always a friendly service and good value.

I came into the malabar coffee bar on Saturday 6th my first impression on the place the staff don't look happy ok so I asked for a crossant tomato and Brie the lady don't ask if I would like it hot she just took it apon her self to warm it up with out asking me the customer what I would like I did think that in most places the customer gets a choice it does seem that in the malabar cafe the staff seem to make there minds up for them and also ref to hot food do people understand that you have to pay vat on hot food which is 20% I remember the days when if you came to Sevenoaks you couldn't find many places to eat or get a coffee now you have lots of choice would I go back to the malabar cafe don't think I would love mr cheeky in Kent

Me and my wife went to the new Malabar coffee in London Road in Sevenoaks , what disappointed me was the customer service from the owner . The Barista was helpful , but the owner who was also serving totally ignored us , in fact he looked totally miserable . might not visit again

Met a friend for coffee on a freezing cold, rainy day. This is walking distance between the two of us so it's ideal for a meet up. On a Tuesday afternoon - not too busy and the tables are nicely spread out so you don't feel as if people are listening in to your conversations - a fault with many coffee places though I appreciate they want to get as many people in as possible. We had a pot of tea and a flat white with a piece of fruit cake. Quick service and very good choice of teas and coffees as well as other types of drinks. Lovely selection of sandwiches, croissants and cakes. Will definitely be making this a regular and will make a change from my usual Costa!

The Sevenoaks venue is small but also inviting, Can get busy at peak times such as 11:00 am. The window seats are best or outside at the back in the summer weather. Very good service in Sevenoaks. Coffee is well-made and presented. Beware that a Malabar is now in Dunton Green. Tried this to for coffee, but discovered they are targeting the young mothers with pre-school children. So not the relaxing coffee stop I usually obtain at the Sevenoaks venue

at lasst there is a good coffee shop that doesn't scrimp on decent coffee.the coffee in this shop is full of flavour, whether you like a weak cup or a stronger coffee. well done to the owners for keeping the quality .if you like a strong coffee ,full of flavour, you have got to try a stumpy.

Must admit my friend and I just went for a pot of tea each. However this was a treat - what with leaf tea being infused through a strainer. Very civilised! Food-wise there was a huge selection of cakes and biscuits, savoury croissants and even at least 4 choices of gluten-free cakes! Need to revisit when hungrier! Welcoming atmosphere. Not exactly cheap but got the impression you get what you pay for.

I'm primarily a coffee drinker, and Malabar makes perfect coffees. But they also make such delicious tea, the real thing with aromatic loose leaves in a pot, that I sometimes have this instead.Like other reviewers, wish the premises were larger, as we sometimes can't find a place and have to go elsewhere. Although we can sit outside in The Shambles - and it's surprising how often we can manage this given our damp climate!

Great fresh coffee served nice and hot. Fair selection of panini and toasted sandwiches . Loads of cakes to choose from if tempted. Always seems busy and in the pass have had to go elsewhere due to the limited amount of tables.

Malabar serve the best coffee in town but the premises are looking very tired and run down. Time for a bit of deep cleaning and refresh.

Malabar is a good place to meet your friends, but the staff always leave the door open and I gets really annoying because the whole place gets cold!!!!! I just wish they would close the door!!! It's got really nice food and ok staff.

Nice independent coffee house, cakes were amazing (carrot cake and apple/almond tart). The main room is quite small so it can get a bit noisy when there are coffees being made and people around but they also have a terrasse being which looks nice and quite for sunny days.

Very cosy coffee shop just between the High Street and London Road. Staff are helpful and courteous, and the coffee and pastries are excellent . Tried out the Nutella hot chocolate the other day when it was chilly and rainy outside - just hit the spot! There is a loyalty card which is useful. Very well worth visiting.

Small and friendly coffee shop. Decent coffee if you want a change from chain coffee shops. Not cheap but reasonably competitive. Have visited on several occasions over last few years, consistently good (but you can tell when the bosses aren't there as staff less vital!) Large outdoor courtyard eating area if the weather's nice.

Never had a bad experience at Malabar. The best coffee and friendly staff! Only criticism is it isn't big enough!! It's the best coffee place in Sevenoaks!

Lovely independent cafe right in the middle of Sevenoaks. The coffee is fantastic and the food always good. I mainly go in for breakfast, meeting friends or working (reliable wifi too). Cafe itself not huge but if the sun is shining there's a great terrace behind. Well worth a visit.

I’ve been going to this cafe on and off for 10 years. I have to say my experience has gone downhill since Covid. My recent visit has been very disappointing . I ordered a Spinach and Mushroom Quiche with salads. First of all, the Quiche was still frozen in the middle. Secondly, I didn’t even have time to argue because my daughter has been stung by a wasp. Totally understood this is normal in warm weather but the Cafe’s reaction has been shocking. I went to the counter to ask for some ice. It took at least 5 mins for the waiter to get it despite I can see a bag of ice lying on the table with 1 waitress standing next to it chatting to another lady. I asked can someone just give me the ice as my daughter is crying in pain. I was told someone has gone to get first aid and they can’t “just give me the ice”. After another 5 mins, the first aid has finally showed up. After asking what happened, his words are: oh…..I’m afraid there is not much I can do. I said can you grab me some ice please? It is at that point we finally got the ice!!! I washed my daughter’s wound with some soapy water after a quick google on what to do. I’m not a fully qualified first aid by no means. The cafe has an outside sitting area and wasp sting would be very common. Pleas train your staff on what to do or get some wasps trap like Polhill did. Very disappointing and I would have to end my visit after 10 years. Service standard has gone down too. Most of them look like they don’t want to work there and have a terrible attitude.

I had a couple of hours to kill while on business in Sevenoaks, and fancied an all day breakfast. I googled and found this little place off the beaten track (didn't want to pay for parking!). Really tasty full English breakfast and a good cup of coffee, and ever so great value at £8.00. Maybe not the greatest venue, but definitely worth it for the food.

My partner & I visited this gorgeously quaint pub for the first time a week ago for lunch with our daughters as we wanted to enjoy a family meal together before visiting Hever Castle. The service was very good and the food was delicious. However the experience was spoilt by a family of four adults and their four young children, who were sitting behind us, who were not well behaved (I.e. the children were ‘allowed’ to continue shouting despite being told not to and worse of all one Dad cleaned his son’s face after their meal whilst the child stood on the furniture)! Their behaviour as a family showed a lack of respect for everyone else at the pub, especially the staff. Who lets their children stand on someone else’s furniture, let alone with dirty shoes on?! We will return but at a different time when hopefully badly behaved young children wont be in attendance.

Friendly pub. Nice size function room, had my son's 21st there. Pool table and darts. Staff could not do enough to help.
