One of the best pubs in kidderminster for food and drink.

We had a delicious lunch at the Mare and Colt today. Thank you Daniel for being so welcoming and helpful. We could see how hard you work. We'd recommend The Mare & Colt to friends and family.

Room was quite cool - certainly not cozy. Food was OK but I asked if I could have sweet potatoes instead of white potato chips and was refused but told I could order them as a side. I have not had this request refused at any other eatery. I did enjoy the mini pudding and flat white coffee.

I enjoyed a great meal in a lovely atmosphere. The food was good and arrived quickly after we ordered. We were served by Libby who was very helpful and attentive. Overall great food and service. Would come back.

The pub is fantastic and has a great atmosphere. Our server, Libby, was very kind and hardworking and took the time to make sure we were happy with everything. Me and my mates will hopefully be returning soon.

We were welcomed by Dan who was on his own, appearing to do everything this lunchtime. Friendly, courteous, nice manner and very professional. Customers like this and it's a big part of what makes them return. Thank you Dan.

Very friendly staff and a varied menu. The pub is nice inside with a good atmosphere. The car park was quite busy but we found a space. This is a nice place for a weekday lunch.

We booked for the Christmas festive meal. The young ladies that served us were both extremely efficient and polite. The main courses of cod were fine but certainly could have had more vegetables on the plate.unfortunately the slice of Christmas pudding was sliced so thin it was almost transparent. And the festive tart was a soggy mess. The dining area was very cold so couldn't take our coats off. Very disappointing lunch.

We had a Christmas lunch today with friends. The main course was nice, well cooked and hot and served promptly. The sweets were very disappointing. The trifle which we thought was the best option was filled with lumps of hard dry cake. The Christmas pudding slice was so thin I'm not sure how they managed to slice it. The worst was the tart tatin. It should be buttery and crisp. Two of us tried this and it was inedible. The pastry was so soggy, swimming in syrup that you couldn't cut it with a spoon. The whole dish was so sweet and tasteless it was inedible. I like sweet things but it was not good. I asked the server to let the chef know that we were disappointed and she came back and advised that it was a matter of personal taste. Who eats soggy pastry? It definitely wasn't firm and crumbly pastry as it should have been. The tea and coffee was good

Lovely Sunday Christmas lunch. Beef was cooked to perfection and desserts were delicious. Very relaxed atmosphere and the staff were marvellous...nothing was too much trouble!

Travelled from Norfolk to celebrate by brother's birthday. Had a lovely table, tucked away so we could have a good catch up. It was brilliant that we could get a table on such a busy night, so thank you for that. Food was great although the sausage was a bit undercooked but I think my brother likes his sausages burned 🤣. My gammon was amazing and we both had a lovely pudding too. Cheers all

Reservation easily made; warm greeting; mis-matched 'Birthday Offer' meant it wasn't available; restricted menu compared to previous visits (has someone let the 'bean-counters' out of their play-pen?); nice starter (prawn); cool plate temperature of the 'hot' main meal (turkey) which tasted as if the spoon used to serve the cabbage was used for all other ingredients (this contaminating their taste); nice to see English 'bubbly' available; waitresses run off their feet - could do with more staff at Christmas. Overall .. "room for improvement".

Lovely meal out with fellow Americans to celebrate Thanksgiving. I prefer to call it Friends giving. We had the festive menu and it was very good. The staff were efficient and very nice.

Very friendly staff greeted us and quickly found us a table, we were given menus and drinks were offered, our meal arrived quite soon after ordering and was very tasty 😋 we like to use this establishment as two of us are vegan and there is always a much better choice of food than other places 👌

My husband and I, really like the Mare & Colt. We had a roast dinner there a couple weeks ago and it was absolutely delicious. Great value for money. God knows how they cook the turkey, because it was so soft and tender, not dry at all, so compliments to the chefs. Lovely , friendly, welcoming staff. Extremely accommodating too and helpful. Great atmosphere and modern stylish decor. We would highly recommend the Mare & Colt. We have booked for Boxing Day too . :-)

Not been here for years. The experience was an absolute joy. Food was very good as was the service.

Revisited on Sunday 17 November with a family group of nine for a birthday. The venue was very busy. We were sat straightaway (we had pre-booked). The service staff are very friendly, helpful and patient. The food was fantastic. Most of us have variants of the different roasts available. No one had any complaints about portion size, quality or taste. In fact I would say mine (three meat roast) was the best roast dinner I had eaten in a restaurant. The only thing I was not keen on was the side order of chipolatas which were over cooked and tasteless, but this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the main meal. Cash or card accepted. Ample parking. Highly recommend their Sunday roasts.

Had such a lovely evening for my friend’s birthday. Jemima and Mia were lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was great and we didn’t have to wait very long at all even though we were a large party. Will definitely be back!

Have only ever been an occasional visitor here, and have not eaten, just pop in for the odd pint now and again. I will probably not be visiting anytime soon after today ... £5.05 for a pint of Green King IPA, which btw is just 3.4% abv. Frankly, this is unnecessary and unacceptable, price wise. I'm sure the pub won't be sorry in not receiving any further custom from me, but felt compelled to inform others. I'll not comment on other prices, but you can probably guess ... Thanks for replying, however, you skillfully avoided the whole point of my review, which is, for clarity, the cost of a 3.4% abv beer ... Frankly, it was a politicians reply in avoiding the statement put to you. Still absolutely avoided the price issue.

Lovely place, staff were very good

Not terribl and I’d like to give it two and a half. Not poor but less than average too. We ate here because we love the food and service at another Chef and Brewer pub near Shrewsbury but this one isn’t a patch on it. Service was functional at best. Nobody was rude or unpleasant but I can’t put a finger on it, we just felt like the staff were going through the motions. I ordered the game mixed grill and was quite excited because I love all of that. The menu listed venison, boar and duck. What was served was badly overcooked venison, chicken and gammon with an egg!!! No boar, no duck. Some chips were served with it but they looked like they’d been thrown on the plate from six feet away. My wife’s meal was nice though so not all was lost. However, presentation is not the kitchen’s forté. I suggest they send their staff up the road to The Riverside Inn to experience good pub grub and excellent service. We won’t be bothering with the Mare and Colt’ again.

The Mare and Colt and the Running Horse seem to have stopped serving food, part of the Chief and Brewer chain. Correct me if I'm wrong update as of 31st October 2024 In the past I have had some poor experiences at the Mare and Colt so I'm not a regular customer for those reasons, this will remain the same. The staff are Lovely and helpful, unfortunately the price structure for food and drink has been set very high in my opinion. Especially in comparison to other local Pubs. I'd class this Pub as a treat rather than a regular visit. A Chief and Brewer pricing issue which is out of the control of the staff. The tiny apple tart was £6.69 at the time of our visit, extrapolated from that. The cost of living crisis affects us all and in the choices we make, so no more Chef & Brewer visits for me.

Outside seating perfect for today. Sharing platter with a couple of other starters. Staff always friendly and welcoming. Thank you again Another visit in the autumn for a hearty steak pie with mash 😋

Came here today with my family my husband had the roast dinner, I had the chicken duo, and my daughter had the pie the food was excellent the waitress was kind and helpful we will definitely be returning soon

We live about 30 minutes away but it has always been worth the drive over. The food here has always been excellent and we have been with friends and family and never fails. We came over in mid October and we were served by Scarlet who looked after us impeccably.

We came for an impromptu early dinner. No issues booking in. Fairly quiet at this time. We had steak and mixed grill and it was lovely. Great food and lovely service from Jemima.

Lovely family meal. Choice, food and service was great

The car park was busy. We weren't sure we would get a table 1pm on a Friday. It was busy at the bar but we were seated in the restaurant within five minutes. Strangely the restaurant wasn't busy, I have no idea where everyone from the cars were? We ordered from an extensive menu and really enjoyed our food. The wine was the best we've had for a long time. The service was excellent and friendly. There were two tables close to us but not close enough to spoil our conversation or theirs . Would definitely recommend it, not overly priced, no offers but still good value .

Had an excellent breakfast here which was cooked by Lee. We were waited on by Dan who was very welcoming, friendly and personable. It was a great experience and I'd highly recommend it!

We had a great breakfast here with fantastic service from Dan and awesome food by Lee. Definitely recommend and will be returning. Even with allergies at the table nothing was a problem and the process was straight forward.

The beef and ale pie was very good as was the sea bass. The vegetables were a little too al dente for my liking and the custard with dessert could have been warmer. Lee was great and the service was not at all rushed.

Having driven past the pub for years I finally turned left and was delighted I did. Our food was superb, great selection of beers and really friendly staff.

We came here for a birthday meal on our travels in the area and have to say we were very impressed. Very intimate and cosy restaurant. The service recieved was brilliant. By the time we had ordered our food it was straight to our table. The food was absolutely beautiful! Would highly recommend 👌 Worth every penny!

Drive by call in on way home. Ordered the fish, cooked perfectly. Delightful little quite pub. Inside was very clean and welcoming as were the staff. Will be bringing the family on next visit.

Good choice of food with excellent service

We had a two night stay at the safari park in one of the lodges and there are two Chef and Brewers close. We had a Gourmet card so we tried both of them. The pub looks like its been refurbished recently and has a lovely outdoor space to sit on the summer. The staff were warm and friendly. We will definitely be back

Stopped off for a meal, Very nice place

Lovely clean pub, staff attentive and polite. We had Sunday lunch and was a little disappointed, cold hard vegetables, meat was thily sliced and the Turkey tasted watery and processed, however the roast potatoes were gorgeous. Plenty of gravy but tasted like granulated bisto style. Portion was small but sufficient. The overall cost was over priced. But the biggest surprise was the cost of the drinks, both alcohol and soft drinks were extremely high and over priced. Not recommended.

Went for a family meal on Sunday 18th and the staff was brilliant really welcoming and friendly, service was quick even know it was very busy. Food was exceptional and well worth. Definitely will be visiting again soon

My husband and I decided to go to the Mare and Colt for Sunday lunch today. Well all I can say is the food was appalling. I asked for the Sunday lunch without the meat and that I would like just the vegetables. What I got was one piece of carrot, one small piece of brocoli, two bits of shredded cabbage and 5 tiny pieces of potato. My husband had ordered me a cauliflower cheese to have with the vegetables. It was all stone cold and to be honest the carrot, brocoli, bits of cabbage and potatoes were disgusting. I took my late back and told the member of staff that it was cold. She said she would get me another. When my food came again it was cold and I couldn't eat it. We went up to the var to pay and I told her that my food was cold and that couldn't eat it. They took my meal off the bill. We weren't even apologised to. I will not be recommending the Mare and Colt to anyone and we will definitely not be returning. I won't even be giving it 1 star.

First visit to this pub. Food was excellent. Service first class. The only reason I marked atmosphere was we visited early so the pub was quiet. Really enjoyed the visit.

We visited today as a large family. The staff were amazing. So friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. Even our fussy eater tried new things and cleared his plate. We don't live nearby but we will be going back. Highly recommended

First visit had lunch with friends It was a lovely experience. The service and food was just excellent . And so lovely due to the weather to be able to have a drink after our meal outside thank you.

It's a nice pub, good atmosphere and better than average service. I found the food adequate, though I thought the prices are a little high, at least 20 - 30% higher than I'd expect. 4 of us came to £120 and looking at what we ordered it was all very standard 'pub grub' Nice enough but expensive for what you get.

The staff are very attentive. Our meal came fairly quickly and was delicious. The decor is modern and very clean. We will definitely visit again soon.

Food was OK - typical Harvester fare. The pub was a convenient place to stop on a long journey but a couple of locals were given priority at the bar when ordering which felt unwelcoming. The bar and restaurant area has a nice vibe and the outside area is very nice.

Very lovely service. Sat straight away and high chair brought over to accommodate our needs for the child at the table. Quick service and extremely yummy food. Desserts were excellent. Great environment. Jemima was our waitress and she was lovely.

We stopped off here for Sunday lunch and were so glad we did. The food was amazing! I had the Beef Short Rib and my wife had Turkey. The food was cooked to perfection, the staff were great and the venue was lovely. To top it off the sun was out and ate outside under their lovely pergola. We came to the restaurant for a 50th birthday celebration. Rebecca and her team were absolutely fantastic and we throughly enjoyed the food. We really do want to say a massive thank you as they did such a great job of looking after us and what made us smile is the staff all came out with the birthday cake singing 'happy birthday'. We will definitely be back.

My friends always ask to lunch at the Mare & Colt when they're visiting me. As always, good food, wide choice, reasonably priced and plenty of space to enjoy a catch up. Venue is clean & comfortable. Special thanks to our waiter & waitress today, very polite, helpful & friendly. Will return & can recommend.

Visited for lunch a few weeks ago. Lee was very accomodating, he let us use the car park while we were house hunting. We returned for lunch and we were'nt disappointed. The food and service was excellent. Will definitly become our local..

Worst Sunday Roast ever had,we did arrive after 3pm but that Beef, roast potatoes or Yorkshire pud,should have been served to us,unfortunately we paid for it,Happy to get away,

Popped in on a whim on Sunday of bank holiday weekend as up road from go outdoors. Ordered 2 beef dinners which was about £17 each. Food arrived and was very disappointed. one tiny peice of broccoli and very very small bit of cabbage all of which might just about fill a spoon. 3 potatoes 2 of which I wouldn't even count as so small. A carrot and what looked like an amazing Yorkshire pudding. Unfortunately looks can be deceiving as it must have been left in oven to keep warm and had gone so hard and brittle the whole thing literally disintegrated when you tried to cut into it. It was literally unedable. There was 2 good peices of beef and the gentleman who served us was very friendly so I gave 2 stars. I do not think this was anywhere near quality food or good value.I left out of pocket and hungry. We didn't get asked if anything was OK with meal to raise this issue and it was busy at bar so I wasn't confident to complain as it would have effected my anxiety.

Popped in for lunch and was surprised how much this place has changed as I had not been in for a long while. All for the better and looks lovely with lots of cosy areas. The range of lunch food was good and suited the three of us visiting who all like different things.

Hadn't been here in a long time as didn't have a good couple of experiences but as time goes on new people take over and we decided to give it a try. So much better than previous, friendly welcome, lovely atmosphere and our service by Dulcie was fantastic. So glad we tried it again.
