It was £15 for 3 courses, what can you expect, but seriously it was even worse that you could imagine! Buffet style, self service, we had supposedly leek & potato soup like dish water packet soup, never been near an leek or a potato, leather pork chops, yellow veg curry, frozen soggy mixed veg and clumpy white rice, no potatoes were main course options. Desert was some kind of apple cake or a bright pink cheesecake, no cream, custard or ice cream, so very dry. Everything was tasteless, but I guess it filled a whole

Very nice friendly pub/restaurant. Welcomed our little cavapoo. Food very good and excellent value for money. Staff very helpful and attentive. Make sure you book for Sunday roast, it’s well worth it.

In 2015 we celebrated NYE in style at the Cavendish. It has been taken over by Britannia Hotels Group. NYE 2016 was very different. We paid £100 per person in advance for the dinner dance with no accommodation as we live locally. No welcome drink on arrival, stood waiting to be seated whilst three staff stood chatting. Eventually shown to table which was by huge uncurtained windows. No heating of any kind in the room. On enquiry to staff, told the heating had been broken for months. It was an intensely cold night. Sat in flimsy dress with coat on that I had been forced to retrieve from reception. Not many guests in dining room on arrival but there were many large unset unoccupied tables (see photo). Staff tried to hurry us through meal, so that meal finished before 9 pm by which time dining guests were overwhelmed and outnumbered by non dining guests occupying the large tables, whom we were told had eaten elsewhere in hotel then joined for music and dancing only. Dance floor so small, people could not dance properly. DJ spent majority of time hidden behind screens (see photo). Food was minimalistic in quantity and quality below par for a four star hotel. The beef fillet was extremely tough and indigestible. No steak knives! Complained to Deputy Duty Manager who took a resigned attitude indicating there was nothing he could do. He offered a bottle of champagne to compensate for lack of heating, which was Prosecco when it arrived!! We did not stay to see the New Year in, as the whole thing was so uncomfortable and unpleasant. Extremely poor value for money.

We ate here as part of our organised tour hotel accommodation. The buffet breakfasts were very nice with good quality sausages, proper grilled tomatoes, etc. The 3 course meals on half board were let down by some of the main courses, although the vegetarian option was nicer than in many hotels. I do not believe the set price of £25.00 (3 courses) if bought separately from the accommodation represents good value.

We had a beautiful dinner at the restaurant. My husband had the fillet steak and I had the seabass. Cannot fault either. Perfectly cooked and presented. We had three courses and each was of a very high standard. Lovely!!!

Must have a new chef as eaten here two years ago and was good this time horrible The crispy belly pork was so over cooked it was stringy and the crackling you needed a hammer and chisel to break it the lamb shanks were tough but worst of all the chicken stir fry was a great big plate of slop with excatly three small pieces of chicken yuk

A bit expensive for what you get, Gregg and John would be happy with the presentation, but would not be happy with the quantity, desserts choice was poor, chocolate roulade was more like a slice of swiss roll, and thinly sliced. restaurant was clean and pleasant in appearance.

How quickly a restaurant of some quality can deteriorate when the hotel chain owning it changes. I ate in this restaurant in the Cavendish Hotel in May and August of this year when the hotel was in the Bonnington Group and the quality in every detail was excellent . Since my last visit the hotel has become part of the Britannia chain and the Marine Restaurant has taken a downward spiral . I took friends there last week and the change for the worse was immediately evident . The food was poor , the service inattentive [ one had to almost shout to get attention from the staff ] and compared with my earlier visits, the staff numbers had been cut to a bare minimum with no obvious manager in charge at all .I shall not be dining there again nor at any other Britannia Hotel if this is their general standard .

Still an excellent Sunday Lunch, relieved that the quality of the food is still the same, since Brittania has taken over. However, despite the 4 staff working very very hard to keep everyone happy, they were not able to serve the amount of people in the restaurant, with their usual outstanding service. Clearly they could not cope with the numbers. The excellent Restaurant Manager had left the day before and it seemed that the hotel was not expecting the large number of people who were dining that day. They should however have contingency plans for such circumstances. We were first in, so our first course and second were served fairly quickly, but our dessert and coffee took forever. The people who were waiting to be seated, had to wait an usually long time. When we eventually paid the bill, rather than take the credit card in the actual restaurant, you had to accompany the waiter to the reception area, where the card was then swiped. Very odd and just adds to the delay. I am sure that staff could have been taken for elsewhere to help in the restaurant and we felt really sorry for the 4, who as I said before, were working very hard under bad circumstances. Would have been a four star review had it not been for the long wait. Little things that used to happen, such as coats being taken from you and hung up, also did not happen. Brittania service I guess!!

Nice hotel....but the service and food need serious updating,,, the service is stuffy and old fashioned...the staff need to relax and interact on a more personal basis. The food was poor...prawn cocktail that induced an almost instant stomach cramp as well as being so smothered with paprika that it tasted of anything but prawn cocktail... the roast beef was tough and the vegetables on a side plate were like a school dinner with a peculiar swede stick that was undercooked.... roast potatoes were also just lightly tanned but not crispy and tasty.. desert tasted boxed (it may not have been) but not good... for £23 they need to up the game considerably...lastly the three piece jazz group looked as unhappy as the orchestra on the titanic!!! they need to update and make the whole experience current and vivid.....until then we will not return,,,

A limited menu but the service is excellent the quality of the food is high. Things like fish and chips, burgers, sausages as well as steaks of various kinds are on offer. Draft local beers are available. The decor is neo art deco. There is another (main) restaurant which is also of a high quality. We have been to this bar several times and always enjoyed ourselves ~ a leisurely lunch with no pressure.

Went here on the recommendation from the hotel where we were staying and was more than pleased with everything. The staff were brilliant and made you feel like you was a regular, the menu was more than varied and well priced and best of all was the food, massive portions and excellent quality. If were ever in Eastbourne again, this is the place we would come back to.

My wife and I have had Sunday lunch so many times at the Cavendish Hotel's sumptuous Marine Restaurant over the last few years that its about time I gave it a TA review. We visited last week (July 14) for our wedding anniversary and had the usual splendid feast ... eventually. By way of explanation this was the second time at the Marine that we've had to send back the main course of the set luncheon due to it being less than hot. The first time, the Maitre'd was distraught and refused to let us pay any of the bill - even though they replaced our beef and fish straight away. This time, the current MD, just one of a series of charming continental fellows they've employed in this role over the last five years (one was actually a very attractive black lady) was doubled up in apology ... but no offer of compensation. Fair enough, they took the meals away and wholly replaced them. And everything after that was fine. Just strange that it has happened twice to us in, what, the last four visits. Something odd must be going on, possibly in the kitchen. Actually, it is brilliant value on a Sunday. Four courses plus a glass of wine, and tea or coffee all included for about £40 a couple. Nothing is cheap these days in thriving restaurants but this is very tasty and the place is dripping with class. Frequently decorated dining suite with mountain-high ceilings, chandeliers, cut glass galore, splendid seafront outlook, well-cooked food, plenty of choice and a discreet trio playing a string of old favourites without impinging on your peace. Service is good, with main meals arriving in turreens which are whipped off in a flourishing gesture by the staff to add a bit of romance. Possibly the best Sunday meal in Eastbourne these days - and we've tried the over-priced Grand and the sometimes staid Lansdowne and the unpredictable Hydro.

We have a long weekend in Eastbourne most years, and used to stay at the excellent Bassets but moved this time as Catherine and Howard have retired. When we first visited they recommended the Marine for dinner as "it is where they go". The menu is quite extensive with changing specials. The food is very good and very competitively priced. Staff are efficient and friendly, and, the Harvey's ale is excellent. So much so, we hardly ever go anywhere else, and if we do, we keep coming back.

Sehr freundliche engagierte Angestellte, gutes Angebot. Gerne wieder!
