Although the food and decor was amazing our night was ruined by only being allocated a table for a 3 course meal for 1 hour and 45 minutes (our table wasnt ready at 7.30pm which we had booked for) so we finally sat down at 7.45. At 8.45pm before we had even ordered our desserts we were informed the bar was closed. We'd been looking forward to a Christmas get together with 10 friends in total. After 1 hour and 45 minutes we were continually asked to leave as the restaurant was closing at 9.30pm.

Lovely meal for New Years Eve, very accommodating letting us add a last minute 8th person! Food was delish and timings were perfect, nothing was too much of an ask. Lovely staff and very helpful.

Great meal at The Mill of the Black Monk, the staff are very friendly & welcoming, very efficient & always asking if your alright, do you need anything, can’t thank them enough, the meals we had were delicious, there was 9 of us & not one empty plate, the pie I had was filled with fillet steak & it was delicious, I’ve been there plenty of times & will return again, thanks again to Lee & Emma

Been fancying trying here for a while. My son in law booked it for a belated birthday meal for me. (Sunday roast) the food was nice and good quality. It was served quickly and staff were polite. The disappointment was that the food was barely like warm. It should be piping hot. The toilets were a let down. Seat lid closing on you . And water/pee all over the floor. And floor dirty.

We have visited The Mill on many occasions and always been more than happy with our meal but not so this time. Our food was of good quality but was spoilt because it was only warm not hot. My meat was cold, everything else was just luke warm apart from the roast potatoes. At no point were we asked if everything was ok or I would have pointed this out, even when we paid the bill we weren’t asked, which normally we are. Another point is that we were seated upstairs where we have never been before and we found it to be very dark, we struggled to read the menu.

WOW this is a hidden gem, called in for my son’s birthday and it was amazing. The pub itself is beautiful if you like oldy worldly type pubs apparently the oldest in England, once given the menus a page at the front of the menu is a story of the building which I thought was great, saved me googling it like I always do. Great choice of food to choose from and drinks. I chose the Trio of lamb and it was superb I’d safely say one of the best meals I’ve had in a restaurant by far my son had the same and my husband had (I think it was called) Monk Burger which he said was really good as well. Staff were really friendly and attentive. I am most definitely going to go back.

I ordered the chorizo and halloumi starter which had clearly been zapped in the microwave. I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t a bowl of random crap covered in horrible sauce. It was like they had a fridge clear out and made a starter out of it. I ordered the Tuscan chicken pasta and for £17 I would have hoped it was the best bowl of pasta I’d ever have…how wrong was I. The chef came out bragging about his culinary expertise to a couple on the next table and basically patting himself on the back for cooking their steaks, meanwhile everyone has had mediocre food. Maybe spend less time bragging and applauding yourself and focus on getting the basics right.

This was supposed to be an anniversary meal ..... it was an absolute disaster..... we have been before and had no issues but this time ..... we finished our staters and asked if the main could be about 20mins to a half hour ..... reasonable request..... on the waitress return ..... she came with the mains ...... seriously we hadn't had 5 minutes after our stater ...... neither of us could eat our main so we sent it back to keep warm ..... in hindsight we should have just refused it ...... it came back at our request 20 minutes later .... the coleslaw was missing and it was like warmish ..... enough said we ate a bit but left it...... no one asked if we were ok, we were in and out in about an hour 15 mins, I've seriously spent longer in McDonalds and had better food and customer service....... we explained how we felt several times ...... sometimes an apology is not enough, " I'm sorry " doesn't cut it, no refund, no nothing...... here's one couple that will not be going back and won't be recommending

We were blown away when entering the building as it’s beautifully historic. As a family run business all the staff were lovely and very attentive. The Sunday lunch did not disappoint! Our only critique is we were too full for dessert but will return when next in the area to enjoy the normal menu in the week. Thank you for being the perfect ending to our trip up north.

Make better at home, beef had no colour and tasteless, the mash looked like it had been under headlamp with a shine to it and luck warm and the cauliflower cheese tasted sour

Visited on a Friday night whilst staying over with a friend ahead of the football the next day. Booked our table online. On arrival was greeted by a friendly member of the waiting staff. We were a little early so we were asked to wait and could get a drink from the bar. No problem with that. I’m a real ale drinker so would have liked a local ale, sadly had to have a lager but the Cruzcampo was spot on. Once seated we perused the menu. Not too many choices but we opted for the trio of lamb and 3 way pork medley. Both meals were spot on. Freshly cooked, nice veg, delicious gravies and very tasty. It was fairly busy in there and a pleasant ambience. Staff were friendly and attentive. Good to see some Gluten Free options on the menu also. Would recommend if in the area and looking for a quality meal.

Easter Sunday lunch to celebrate a 30th birthday in the family - the food and service were absolutely 'spot on' and the Yorkshire Puddings were to die for, both as a starter and also with our Sunday roast. The at table staff were so efficient and lovely. Booking is advised as it can get really busy! We have driven past the establishment literally hundreds of times and have never been before but this certainly won't be our last visit!

After not being in the area during the cafe's opening hours due to moving to Cornwall, I have waited for over 4 years to wrap my chops around what is easily THE BEST spam, egg and cheesy beans in the whole country. It was worth the wait and worth the drive. The shop has moved to a new premesis on the opposite side of the road since I last visited, but the staff are the same and the food is absolutely heavenly. Thank you so much for our lunch today, we all really enjoyed our sandwiches! If you ever open a cafe in Cornwall let me know and I'll be your best customer! 😋

Went here after trying 3 other pubs nearby. If they had signs outside saying that they serve food we probably would have gone here first. The 3 cask beers that we tried were all in good form unlike the one beer in the other pub that we ate in.

A hidden gem! Great place for coffee, food and a meeting (business and leisure)
