Montey's in Harrogate

Leaving my original review below as I believe I personally was wrong and hold accountability for my comments and actions. Updated to 5* as someone clearly put the time and effort in to reply which is rare from a business. They clearly run this place with pride and integrity. My bitterness evidently came from us buying what were clearly premium drinks. We were at the BOTB reunion and we were spending £9 a drink on the labelled drinks from the drinks list provided, Goth juice etc, we never deviated from that last the whole time we were there and that is our own fault. Reading the reply from Management, clearly I am wrong and the drinks prices are absolutely fine for the standard pints and mixers and that is a lesson learned on our part. I still hold true that the staff are amazing, the atmosphere is superb, the aesthetics of the bar are unique and amazing, I have genuinely fallen in love with this place, and seeing the prices listed, this place is a great environment to spend your weekend brass and enjoy your downtime. *Old review - how wrong I was* Honestly the worse value for money bar in Harrogate. £8/9 for a drink is the average you’ll pay. The bar is amazing and the staff are top tier, but the cost for drinks is actually outrageous and downright scandalous. If you’re planning a night out avoid Monty’s at all cost unless you’re willing to sell a kidney to fund it.

Charged 12 for a pint and half. We were going to stay for the football. Would not recommend.

Went on a Saturday night and after being served by Ethan, I truly recommend for others to stop by and request him to serve you. Great atmosphere and music!

We had a fun time, good laughs and lots of fun until 2 weird blokes started making aggressive advances to the females in our party and we made an exit. Better to walk away than do your Tyson Fury impersonation.

Hands down, it has to be at the top of the list for best bars in town. The team are always smiling, well educated on drinks and all a little bit crazy 🤪 I love it!

Monteys is the bar to visit! Been going here for years. Even when the other bars close for the evening their staff head to Monteys to finish the night off! An amazing Rock bar for the last nearly three decades!

The best place to drink and relax in Harrogate I go every time I visit Harrogate. Staff are amazing summer was so kind and friendly and she definitely knows her cocktails 🍸.

Love the famous Lemon Drops and after having one last night we got a second , not normally one to complain but there was something missing out of it. Told a guy on the bar it didn't taste right as not zingy , looked watery and just didn't taste the same . He took them away and proceeded to pour them all ( 3 ) back into the cocktail shaker together , give them another shake, tip them back into the glasses and give them back to us ! Not good to say we paid £15 for them, it was a genuine complaint , we weren't arsey with him and all 3 of us had just had one sip not drunk half of it , quite disgusting really. I'm a landlady and would be mortified if any of our staff treat a complaint this way .

Great bar, great atmosphere but a bit pricey

I've always loved this place, been a steady customer for many years. Still have the great service, friendly staff, great music, & of course the best cocktails in town 👍 they now have much larger outdoor seating area & their drink list/menu is available via a QR code. Only down side is the cost of cocktails, they seem rather pricey, especially for some of the smaller cocktails (ie: white Russians), BUT they do have a rewards card/app now where you can earn a free cocktail 👍👍

Seems a good vibe once you’re in there but bouncers love to have a power trip! Went in without a problem, and upon seeing a big queue for the bar my friend said they would buy me drinks and i can go have a cig. After this when i tried to get in (5 minutes later) boothie wouldn’t let me back in because i had had too much to drink (i hadn’t had one since i went in the first time). I explained this and he said he would be judge and jury about this? bit odd door policy and i would rate it higher if i could actually go in and enjoy it!

Used to love Monteys a few years ago, but now they're too mainstream music wise in my opinion. Not as "rock n' roll" as they were a few years ago with their playlist. One time I went and they played Harry Styles and Olivia Rodrigo. Granted, they were songs everyone knew, but really not the Monteys vibe. I think when it's a tad warmer, I'd much rather sit outside than inside. Staff are cool and fun and seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs, drink and cocktails and shots are delicious and there's plenty to choose from. The last few times I've been, it's mostly been a lot of middle aged people, not really a place for the younger ones anymore sadly :(

Been in a few times and it’s been decent. However, last night I paid £8.50 for two bottles of Peroni zero…£8.50!! Considering it’s £11 for 12 bottles in most supermarkets this is outright robbery!! Why on earth are they charging zero alcohol at the price of alcohol???

Best bar in town for cocktails without the pretentious c**p. The atmosphere is always on point and the staff never disappoint 🙌🏼

If you are disabled don’t bother you have to ask for a key to the disabled toilets it’s not accessible massive FAIL!

It's ok for a drink, staff is polite but slow to serve, decent place.

Espresso martini is poor, barman spilt some on the bar moving the glass, florist was over dosed with lemon, couldn't taste anything but bitter lemon, barman more interested in chatting with his mate than making drinks a poor effort

Complete refurbishment. Still nice place with friendly and polite staff. Only criticism is back ground music very loud. Have to shout to be heard.

It's good to find a proper cocktail bar. So many places offer saccharin sweet, lurid horrors that a well crafted cocktail is an oasis in a margarita desert.

A proper sticky floors rock bar with cocktails made to absolute perfection. If you don't have a good time here you're doing life wrong.

Great pub, awesome music and attentive staff. Real easy table service, you don't spend ages trying to get served like in a lot of post covid pubs nowadays. Every bar should be like this!

Always the best service in town!

Keen to support independents post lockdown but had the worst customer service I've experienced in a long time. Our table spent a fair bit of money but they made repeated mistakes with drinks and what they charged but rather than offer a genuine apology and a way to quickly rectify it each instance became some awkward battle as if we were somehow in the wrong. They were only small errors but there were a lot of them (makes you wonder what happens when it's late and people are too drunk to realise the charge is wrong). Their attitude was so bad that it soured the whole experience. When businesses are crying out for customers and you've got people excited to be there I just don't get why you would make it such a negative experience. We've been regulars for years it's just so disappointing

A five-star bar. This is the most underappreciated and underrated bar ever. The vibe and atmosphere every night is electrifying, exciting, friendly, safe, comfortable and just freaking awesome. Any night is guaranteed to be a blast and you are in for a great night. The bartenders are also extremely talented and can recommend and whip you up a delicious storm, always great drinks offers available. They also have live music frequently which in a hidden corner of the town makes it an absolute must. I love the entire staff, they all share the same humbling and bubbly personality, which really shows the ethics of this collaborative superb joint and the love that goes into preserving its reputation with local customers. Always a privilege to come in here and enjoy a drink, game of foozball and great tunes.

Amazing service. Bouncer on the door asked us to wear face masks (whilst walking to the table) and sign in, pointed us to a table. We sat down and within second our order was being taken by George. Minutes later our drinks were with us. Really friendly staff!! Honestly, best experince I could imagine with the current situation. Thanks monteys crew!!

Fantastic atmosphere and the barstaff were really fun and attentive (I think our's was called Charlie?). Would highly recommend and will be back.

My boyfriend and here come regularly and have many a blue cocktail! From the milky Unicorn Tears to the fruity Dennis the Mennis, there is a drink for everyone. The atmosphere is fab, great music and the staff are lovely. If you are wanting a bar which has a HUGE range of cocktails, a variety of shooters and obviously your beer, this is the place. Always recommend Monteys to anyone visiting Harrogate.

Went there two week ago with some friends for the first time, and i loved it. The music was spot on knew every song and the staff and drinks were amazing easily would go again :).

Nice cocktails and friendly staff, was cheaper to buy 2 pints rather than one but they offered to just pour the second when I wanted it so can't fault the staff.

The best thing about monteys is the staff, everyone seems to enjoy their job and have a real passion for service. Such a compact venue it does get a little loud to have a talk so if your having a casual drink and want to enjoy there endless amount of obscure and amazing cocktails get there early. If you like loud then drop in later and enjoy fluffy bunnies till into the morning

Great prices for drinks which can be hard to find in harrogate. Cheerful staff who always look like they are enjoying the work. Definitely a place worth making a night out staple. 2019 edit, after renovations the place looks brighter and bigger. Again after a fair few visits, the staff are still on the ball with the mixing of drinks. Excellent bar.

Just love this bar. Cocktails are great and really well priced at 241 up to 10pm. Great atmosphere, very friendly and good mix of clientele so no one would feel out of place. Music is awesome. If you like sherbet lemons, try the lemon drop shooter it's fab!

Fantastic atmosphere and great variety of cocktails and other drinks.

Extremely expensive if you dont want the 2 for 1 cocktails and just want an ordinary alcoholic drink. We went when there was a band on and it was insanely loud to the point of making me feel quite nauseous - I've been in small venues such as this before but it didn't feel enjoyable watching the band at all. Also they always let in far too many people, when you have to fight passed drunk morons just to go to the bathroom because everyone is packed in like sardines it becomes even less enjoyable than it already was. That and it feels like a fire hazard to pack quite so many people inside.

Regular venue for live music and makes for a great night out. Toilets have been refurbished so they are now downstairs which is a massive improvement, especially when you've had a skinfull.

Well established, been going strong for decades. Bar staff are highly, highly trained and highly, highly likeable. Best cocktail bar in Harrogate by a country mile, they are true experts. Part of the holy trinity of great bars in Harrogate including Major Toms and Blues bar, all within 100 yards of each other (no need to walk up the hill). If you don’t visit on a night out you’re a mug

As this bar is in my hometown, I've been drinking here for years. The cocktails are always delicious and the music played (offspring, blink 182 etc) is just my cup of tea. Great place, friendly barmen and great atmosphere

What a brilliant place, we went as a group of eight to do the cocktail making masterclass. It was worth every penny, an experience to remember (and that's hard with the amount of cocktails you end up drinking). The barman Andy who did the course was amazing, funny and very knowledgeable, truly an experience never to forget. Eight very happy and drunk workmates.

I have been visiting Monteys for almost 15 years and it has never dissatisfied. They update their cocktails regularly and have something for everyone. The staff are friggin amazing and always seem to be having a great time, which to me, just shows how great this place is. If you like cocktails, rock music/pop rock, get yourself down here, you will not be disappointed

Too dark and expensive but open late

I craved a moneys cocktail the whole 18months I went travelling! Nothings beats a monteys cocktail!
