Mother Hubbard’s in Sheffield

A big portion for a good price. Shared this between two people and it was very filling. It tasted lovely and I would recommend it to all fish and chips lovers.

Had the firecracker nuggets, battered chips, large fish and chips. First out the gate, I don't know what type of fish since there was only one option. Which was strange to me. The breading was okay and the chips were average. The battered chips were great, definitely the highlight. The gravy was good enough. The firecracker nuggets surprised me, way spicier than I expected and didn't match the other items on the menu at all. But I guess that's my fault.

Probably the best fish and chips I have had in Sheffield so far. Big flaky fish coated in a delightful batter and chips done right. The battered sausage was too notch, though the mushy peas are something I would not grab again. All in all, perfect spot for a Friday night :)

FOOD POISONING. This fish gave me and my partner some of the worst food poisoning we've had in our life, it's obvious that this place has awful food hygiene hence why they still do not have a rating on the official site (business number 436607) - stay away, they should not be operating Edit in response: We were looking at the photos posted and compared them to the fish you gave us. The fish was noticeably darker and more rubbery, so clearly then you just gave us rubbish that was sat on the side for a kajillion hours with no concern as to actual food hygiene practices.

Prices are too high and the customer service is very poor. Fish was not tasty and chips were too dry and they didn’t put any tubs of sauces with it. Dry fish and chips without any sauce is very difficult to eat. They didn’t even put any napkins in the takeout. Restaurants cleanliness was excellent and I used toilet which was very clean.

They won’t class it as late though as they kept pushing the delivery slot back after the initial time slot. It took over an hour from ordering

first of all the food was delicious, had the cod and chips. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were great. We realised after ordering we'd forgotten to add a mushy peas and curry sauces so I called to see if it could be done over the phone and paid in cash. The guy I spoke to was really friendly but informed me it couldn't be done. Then to my surprise, they offered to throw them in for free as a kind gesture. All 6 of us said we will definitely be ordering from here again.

Brilliantly tasty fish as usual

Food was cooked well and tasty however the cod bites could have been cooked for slightly longer as the batter was soft and not crispy

I spend £21 for two fish which were not very fresh and contained 70% of butter and 30% 1cm thick fish. Never ever! it used to be ok, now advertising (and as from the photo) fish it's going to be with chips while I have received 2 fish only. Awful.

ordered by mistake, (location wise) so wasn't expecting it to be hot. However it arrived bang on time, lovely and hot and toasted lovely, .....best mistake I've made for a while.

Female staff member was just rude and ignorant. Charged me £1.75 more than what the meal deal was, when I highlighted the error they said that as the order had been processed they could not change the order.

Very bad experience for the second time. Ordered special meal deal 1 fish and chips with mushy peas and can drinks for 2 persons. No one told that the can drinks need to be taken by customers by self. After opening the package at home, realised that can drinks were missing, but it was paid already. Fish is also very raw to taste. Previously when ordered online and paid for 2 persons, only 1 was delivered. After raising a dispute, refund was issued for the non delivered food. This is the second time having a bad experience.

I couldn't wait to write this review. The only thing that was better than the quality of the food was the quality of the staff 👌 It's refreshing to see people taking such care of their business now that customer service is number one priority And if i'm ever in the location, again, 100% I will be eating here. Tiny amounts for the ridiculous prices and my chips were burnt and tasteless.

The food lacked salt and vinegar as ordered, as well as a potion of mushy peas weren't delivered.

l received someone elses order and was told to call just eat but to call it costs £6.00

Can’t get order right, ordered fish, chips and curry sauce, but got mushy peas instead of curry sauce. Also ordered apple crumble, but was nothing like it!! More like container full of soft pastry, struggled to find any apple. Won’t be buying from them again…

We got the classis Fish and chips with curry sauce which was nice, hot and fresh, the customer service was also great and friendly. The decor and atmosphere was also lovely and the place was very clean. Definitely recommended

The prices have gone up a little which isn't a problem. But the special fish does seem to be smaller recently although it is still v nice. Also previously they used to give a few free chips which was nice but last few times that has stopped although I accept you can't expect the chips. Update the large fish do seem to be shrinking

I visited this branch before, and the first time I had the Fiery fish, it was Juicy, succulent, and very tasty. But on Saturday night (13/4/24), I went to the store (it was quiet in store), but the fish was overcooked (to the point that the fish had turned solid and hard and crusty. Total waste of money as it's very expensive.I have emailed them if they don't sort their act out, I will not be visiting this establishment again! Check out the 📸.

Proper fish and chips. Best I've had in years

Lovely fish even though the batter on one of ours was a bit burnt! But thats okay, it still tasted well and it’s A LOT of food.

Proper Fish N Chips. Was driving through town late on a rainy night. Picked it off Google. The place was clean, well lit, and nice. The staff was friendly. The portions were massive. The price was great for the combo deal. The fry on the fish was done perfect . It was fried golden with an excellent crunch and definitely not too fried. The fish was also of a delicate texture. The mushy peas were absolutely incredible. Best we have ever had. Amazing stop for something random.

Didn't deliver our food that we paid £45 for. Last delivery was cold too. Avoid like the plague...rude horrible staff!

Have always got my fish and chips here there the best around only thing is I always ask for lemon slices or lemon juice on my fish as as a qualified head chef FISH NEEDS LEMON below I have shared my recpit and as always got no lemons now they must have lemon as next thing down on the menu is scampi and lemons with a pic of guess what lemon slice so I order scampi once and got lemons now I wouldn't mind if there was an optional extra for lemons other then the fact I never get lemons with my fish dinners the place is brilliant food is always well cooked and tasty

£5.45 for that poor excuse of a cheesecake. How can you charge that for that is beyond me. Daylight robbery.

Good quality fish n chips. I went for the spicy fish and chips. Preferred it to a regular fish and chips however I would save money buying a masala fish and chips from Imrans up the road and would taste a lot better there too. My partner ordered a fish cake butty and was surprised it came with chips.. all for £3.50 can not go wrong with that. Nice wall pictures in there of old sheffied

Just been for tea, the service is very poor 15min To get my order. When we got home, the order was wrong, paid 7.40 for a fish that was so small. And the grease on them is disgusting 11.40 in the bin ill stick to Albert's on city road.

Very disappointed of the standards of this branch, compared to Bradford branch. The fish was not cooked in the middle or sides (hard) and chips were reheated. Never gona eat from this place again 👎

Honest review , very bland nothing special standard chips standard curry , mushy peas and gravy . fish is decent , but nothing amazing . Fancy good looking packaging , nice new shiny shop . Not worth the money , not cooked in beef drippiing or anything great just bland standard

Lovely fishcake and chips. Super crispy on outside and fluffy inside. The fishcake was a Yorkshire fishcake with delicious batter then potato slices and lovely white fish in the middle. We definitely be visiting again. Unlike lots of chip shops it's open on a Sunday ideal if you had a big Saturday night!

Ordered from Uber eats looked amazing on pics. fishcake was very old actually thought they had given me a battered slice of potato it was that thin and dripping with grease definitely not freshly made minced fish n bones the worst I've eaten chips were clock cold. £20 down drain

The chips were dry, unpleasant and not many of them for the price. Didn’t matter as first time ever I actually left them. Curry sauce was nice until we found a hair in it!

I visited this place not expecting much. I was surprised with the service and especially the food. I had the munch box which really hit the spot! I highly recommend this place. It's a decent place to enjoy your food eating in too.

Great place for pre-match fish n chips! Expensive but they are worth it. Generous portions and last time i ate in, i even got a small portion of chips with my fish cake butty completely unexpected and a really nice touch. You won't be disappointed!

I really wanted to leave a positive review but I’m disappointed as I paid pretty good money for my food but chips were cold or old didn’t taste right and it gets hard when you order to take it home and can’t even explain what’s going on so disappointed

Been a few times now with my family and got to say the service and food is absolutely amazing. The best part is they are generous with the portion sizes unlike some of the other Mother Hubbard branches. Will definitely visit again.

Used Deliveroo they delivered it on a push bike so by the time we got the fish and chips it was cold and greasy, won’t be using Deliveroo again or mother hubbarbs , Shame really as the food d is nice but they using a poor delivery service , what’s the point in sending out good food and it’s cold and soggy by the Time we received it

Absolutely shocking service by very rude staff members!! I was considering ordering the family platter for ourselves and the kids. On the menu board, the family platter states it consists of fiery fish & chips, spicy fish & chips, normal fish & chips and a few other bits. I asked the girl at the counter if I can have all of the fish normal (not spicy or fiery) to which she replied “NO, IT IS WHAT IT IS ON THE MENU. WE CAN’T CHANGE IT”. I then asked to speak to the manager. A young lad, claiming to be the manager also then said “WE CAN’T DO IT. WE CAN ONLY DO WHAT IT SAYS UP THERE”. Both staff members were very rude and abrupt with a definitive lack of concern for a potential customer. I can’t see how it would have been any more difficult to make the fish plain, rather than spicy etc, considering that they allegedly fry the fish freshly while the customer waits. The other scenario is just that they couldn’t be bothered to do it. The expression and persona of that of both of the staff members was most definitely that of the latter! I politely asked them one more time if they would do my fish choices as just plain (not spicy) as my kids can’t handle spicy food. They again refused. For an establishment which is also a chain and which purports to be the best fish and chips venue around, their service skills and menu choice is very poor. The only family meal option on the menu, being one that makes having a spicy fish a compulsory factor isn’t very inclusive at all and not accommodating of the vast array of tastebuds and dietary requirements. I then said to the girl that if they can’t do the fish plain, I’ll simply take my business elsewhere. She merely shrugged her shoulders with a total ‘can’t be arsed attitude’. This is a prime example of how hired staff members can destroy a business. I would hope that if this business was being operated by the actual owner, that they would be bending over backwards to please their customers and also to retain them. If the owner is reading this, then I urge you to retrain your staff in customer service skills, as currently I’ve seen better service from a Llama when it spits in your face!! Let’s do some number crunching now, let’s suppose ‘Little Miss Angry’ annoys 1 customer per day (she more than likely annoys way in excess of just the 1, but I’m being kind here!) and if the ticket value was £25 on average. Doing this 7 days a week is £175 per week of lost revenue and approx £700 per month. This is more than enough to pay a staff member for more than a week. Dear Mother Hubbard, there’s a whole lot more revenue being lost here as a result of the poor training and total disregard for customers that’s being exhibited by your staff. Urgent action is needed here! I instead decided to visit Poseidon at Hunters Bar, where I ordered over £35 of food, got it exactly how I wanted it, with great and friendly service and, it tasted amazing! From now on, it’s Poseidon for me. I’d urge you all to give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Updated ...Tried it first time when i was passing, clean, well cooked, good portion, not greesy and hala, i wish it was a bit cheaper and less question when you order(is a UK culture isnt it), but overall 5*,i hope i have same idea when i re order(as some newly opened shops are nice at first then ...) Second visit today, very genrous portion of fish n chips, big selection of drinks , cant make any bad comment really .

Fantastic food and great value for money

Went for takeout. Good quality fish, chips a bit scrappy but OK. Reasonable sized portions, but a corporate feel and I think the cost reflects the size of the restaurant more than what you're getting. All seems clean and well presented but think I'll go for smaller chippies in future.

First time trying this establishment food excellent and fresh chips light and fluffy ,fish was huge (I did order the jumbo) it exceeded expectations ,peas what can i say green and tasted great ,curry sauce warming after taste not to thick not to thin but best sauce I've tried from a chippy in ages, fast and excellent table service.

A real let down fish not tasty felt like frozen and bland, chips not up to scratch no taste and mainly black marked. Won't bother again rather drive to Leeds or Bradford much tastier and food looks appealing and staff more friendly. Staff need to greet with a smile at least.

Honestly one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The fish isn’t super greasy & 90% batter like most places, batter is nice a crispy and not too thick. Fish is perfect. Seasoned really well. Chips also so good. I’m so so impressed and haven’t enjoyed a takeaway like Mother Hubbard’s in so long! It also felt guilt free as it wasn’t too greasy. Didn’t eat in but the restaurants looks really clean & service was great.

I ordered the family meal via phone and they got my side item wrong. I rang them and was told to get back when I’ve already drove 20 minutes, explained I can’t and said sorry I can’t do anything about it. It was not my mistake and the audacity to say sorry I can’t do anything about it was ridiculous!!
