Exciting and casual Murmur is the sister of 64 degrees and it shows It’s quite an affordable option with an incomparable view of the sea If you are on a budget go for the lunch menu so you get an idea of what the food is like Service is great

Fabulous food and very friendly and helpful service for lunch today. The monkfish with artichoke purée and shavings was stunning. Highly recommended

We had a lovely evening. Despite the restaurant being exceptionally busy during the day and some courses not being available we were not disappointed with the food which was cooked to perfection. Excellent service and great ambience too! Will be back soon.

Popped in without a reservation, and was very pleasantly surprised with the menu and service. A hidden gem because it’s down on the waterfront and you don’t know it’s there unless you go down to beach level (maybe some signposting above would be good?). Had curried octopus which was fabulous, and my 2 colleagues were both also brimming with positivity about their meals. The only surprise was that we were the only people enjoying the great food on offer.

We arrived with out a reservation at 1 when the restaurant was quiet. They seated us, served us water but i had to ask for chairs twice. In that time another group arrived also without reservation. We were then told, they only had 1 chair and 1 of our party would have to stand. Not sure why they sat me down without enough seats for our entire party or served us water / gave us menu.

The location is great and the food is greater! We were there on a warm evening and sat outside and watched the world go by on the paved area at the top of the beach. We had a great evening.

6 of us traveled for the day to Brighton. Phoned restaurant way ahead and they took the booking. On way received a text confirming the reservation! Got to the restaurant to find it closed. Monday 4th to be exact.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Service was spotless. The range of drinks was small and overly priced for the size and selection. The food was good, but the portion size was tiny. If something is of a more ‘Al dente’ presentation, I’d expect the quality to be much higher.

Worthwhile a visit for exceptional fish dishes. We had a lovely relaxing time in their outside seating area overlooking Brighton promenade and sea.

Fantastic restaurant. Food was faultless, great wine list, service was outstanding. Great attention to detail for young kids with plastics cups and cutlery provided and vegetable sticks for kids. Very very good

We came to Murmur hoping for a decent lunch and we’re blown away! Friendly service, wonderful food, lovely atmosphere that made us feel like we’d been away on holiday for a week. Thank you :-)

Obscenely small portion sizes if you're not getting the fish. Nice but not exactly fine dining. Service is very good, no complaints there.

What a glorious restaurant, sat looking over the sea, lovely relaxed atmosphere. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The food is delicious, freshly cooked and very tasty. We will certainly be back, such fresh tasting fish cookery. Superb.

Unfortunately the service here just doesn’t match the food quality. Food was really good but no proper welcome from staff with ‘random’ service. Specifically asked twice that our oysters came before the rest of the meal as a starter. Didn’t happen so sent the rest of the food away and they had to redo, after asking and then reconfirming it was a silly mistake. No lovely welcome on arrival. Why not ask or train your staff to do that part. So easy to fix! Wine was brought but plonked on the table and not poured ? Dirty plates were left with us even when staff bought the next course? At £130 for two of us and a toddler the service just wasn’t up to it. Staff need specific training on how to look after people, This should have been be an excellent experience. Shame.

Belle découverte culinaire à recommander. Le rouget et la lotte sont présentés en filet avec une croûte à l unilatéral riche de saveurs et une sauce exquise avec quelques légumes dont salicorne pour la lotte. Les produits sont frais. La situation du restaurant sur la plage face à la mer aussi bien en terrasse qu'en intérieur est très agréable et cocooning.

Food adequate but small portions.A very noisy family with two young children spoilt the experience.

Exquisite food that is beautifully presented while at the same time the flavours are expertly combined. The girls serving the food had such a natural warmth about them and described the food with a genuine smile on their face. You knew they had tasted the meals they were describing. I can't go to Brighton without visiting this gem. This place should have a Michelin star. I'm blown away.

We had the most amazing lunch at Murmur yesterday. From the oysters to the monkfish and the skate everything was cooked to perfection. Gigi & Grainne looked after us so well, nothing was a problem. I can’t wait to go back.

Murmur is one of my favourite restaurants in Brighton so booked a friday night out with a friend. However we did not have the Murmur experience. The first 2 wines we ordered were not available and the food was dreadful. The produce was great but the chef/whoever was "cooking" in the kitchen could not cook. Under done asparagus, raw egg, lumpy bland carrots, tiny winy bit of fish whilst raw fish for my friend. The photos speak for themselves. Please Michael sort it out. Thanks ti Carlos who did his best

I'm sorry to write this after so many previous times enjoying Murmur but things have dramatically fallen over..Carlos was run ragged on his own...lunchtime service doing a superlative job but constantly hounded by the pundits(myself included) for attention. He really did his best.However...the food...oh my goodness...Tiny oysters, £20 for 6..BUT...The sea bream fish of the day was bleeding inside..(new, month old )chef said it's not his fault ..sometimes the whole fish can't be reached under the grill, he told me.. (I thought it had been cooked sous vide tbh)...Flabbergasted. Carlos insisted another bream was cooked which sadly took for-ever!!My guest was almost finished with her fish ..she paid the £160 bill...sorry..but this is just not on.Awful. Gave an extra star only for goodwill. Not sure what is going on with this establishment...Upside down.

Really nice experience today at this lovely little find. The menu today was very fish heavy and I ordered the only non-fish meal and it was absolutely lovely! I think the menu changes often so it’s not always about fish. Would recommend and would visit again :)

Came here two weeks ago for lunch and wow - they have the BEST mussels I've had in the UK. Everything we ate here was perfectly presented, with delicious fresh flavours and lovely service. Thank you!

We couldn't ask for a better dinning experience here at Murmur!! The flavour is great, I wish the rest of the UK fish & chips taste as good as the crispy cod in Murmur's tacos. The service is excellent. The place give out such chill vibe. Definitely reckon this restaurant.

We reserved a table for a relaxing Sunday lunch on a cold bright afternoon. We were shown to our table immediately and brought menus. All good so far. Unfortunately the timeframes from ordering food and drinks, to them arriving at the table, were clearly out of sync. To the point that we had to alert the waiting staff that we had been waiting for 1 hour 20 minutes for our dishes and that other tables had received food even though they arrived long after us. Thankfully the situation was resolved without fuss and when the food arrived, it was incredibly tasty. Thank you for a good outcome. We will return.

This was our first time at Murmur, and whilst I liked it, I didn’t like it enough to go back. The setting is lovely and I like the decor. We had gone on the Octoberbest offer, advertised as 2 course for £25. There was no amuse bouche, and even the bread was charged at another £5. Nice bread though, I’ll give them that. We added some oysters, which were pleasant enough. The starter was a fish taco, which was okay. Everything just felt a bland, as though it was missing a big jolt of flavour. The main was a herb-stuffed cod loin, spring greens, shellfish sauce & fisherman’s pie. The dish came out luke warm, probably because the plate hadn’t been warmed properly, as that was stone cold. Again, it just lacked flavour. It wasn’t stuffed at all, but simply wrapped in greens and (I assume) water bathed, given the bland flavour and texture. The nicest part of the entire meal was the little fish pie on the side, which I would happily have eaten as a full meal. Just yummy. Dessert was a chocolate fondant or biscoff cheesecake - pleasant enough. The staff were very pleasant, although we had to top up our own wine, clearly something they don’t do. The idea of Octoberbest offer is for local restaurants to showcase and draw in new locals with an amazing deal. We have been to many over the years that have completely wowed us, and therefore have gone back time and time again, happily paying full price. This sadly will not be one of those restaurants. Despite being on the Octoberbest offer, the bill was nearly two hundred pounds for two people, and whilst I left feeling satisfied, it was all somewhat underwhelming.

One of my favourite restaurants in Brighton. Right at the seafront, excellent food and service. This time our visit was somewhat spoiled as another guest was smoking barely outside and with the doors all open it was almost like a boozer in the 70’s. It’s not happened before so I hope it’s a one off

Great attention to detail.and definetely worth the visit Wagyu tartare was great and flavor combination top notch but, found few unchewable pieces and still would be nice to have some kind of cracker to put it on croquets were great Monkfish Tail cooked to perfection, sauce kind of nice. The tart which goes with it is amazing but i didnt understand about why fowl was in yhere, in my opinion it took the dish other way and confused me and my partner. Cod with curry sauce and potato straws was the dish we did not like, it didnt look up to restaurant standart, curry sauce were pretty much plain without any dimension. Straws were not really enjoyable. Cod cooked to perfection :) So for me there were good and bad bits but overall i enjoyed my visit. Maybe while eating i think yoo much

Delightful celebratory lunch spent in a sunny patio by the sea.A small menu consisting of mainly fish and seafood but all cooked well with high quality ingredients and were enjoyed by the whole party.Unfortunately a few of the basics were not available such as sparkling water and only one choice of side vegetable on the menu.Luckily on asking they were able to offer another one. The service is relaxed and friendly but also efficient. It is a restaurant that is high priced but personally I feel that it is worth it for not only the good food,the lovely attitude of the employees but also the location.

I had lunch at Murmur with a couple of friends this weekend and had begun to worry a bit having read a couple of very poor reviews here after we had booked. I now wonder is those reviewers were confused about where they ate, as we didn't think it was overpriced, did not find the portions tiny, and were very happy with the service. And we eat out a lot, in some very good restaurants. We all chose different things; the mussels, bonito and lobster croquette starters, and then sand sole, plaice and stone bass for our mains. Plus hand cut chips and broccoli. All were excellent and the portions were perfectly normal. We didn't finish all the fries and none of us had room for dessert. Service was great - relaxed and friendly but very professional, and we were delighted to find reasonably priced wine - the vinho verde went brilliantly with the fish. We sat outside, but inside looks much better than it does in the pics on the website, which make it look very casual and cafe-style. It's actually much better than that. £65 each for two courses of excellent seafood and two bottles of wine between the three of us, and service. We had a great lunch and will be back.

Problem is not the price but whyyyy such small portions? Felt like a fool. The cost they have for the veggie prices are almost nothing to serve 3 bites of food per dish.

I decided to take my mom who is in culinary school to this restaurant, the food was good but when we arrived the lady automatic assumed that we only wanted drinks (?) She said like " we don't sell drinks without food" before we said anything (?) I think it would be better if the menu was digital or printed, I know that the menu changes but having the waitress bringing the outside board into the restaurant was a bit weird. The costumer experience overall was weird and I felt not welcome

Great food and friendly service. Spent a lovely afternoon in Murmur celebrating my birthday. We were not disappointed and we had a pleasant, relaxing few hours. The steak was particularly good, and my granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed the meatballs on the children's menu.

Absolutely amazingly cooked food with such great flavours! Seafood done to perfection with superbly friendly staff. A must if you love seafood!

Just asked for a table inside, I'm alone, was told they were fully booked. Came away looked online and see there was plenty of availability so went back and said that. This time I went inside and there were so many tables available, I mentioned...

The food here is delicious not doubt about that, however the confusion of hours of service is frustrating..we queued for the half hour that it was closed, to then be told it was another half hour..but only for outside, which we were happy to do, it was a very busy Saturday, and with the sunset approaching we were happy as we could see the 6 outside heaters. With 2 young children we thought this would be fine. When we were finally sat down, we were told none of the heater worked!? Which was a surprise that all of them were unserviceable, we asked if they had blankets, but no..Maybe this is a covid thing? This was our 3rd visit to Murmur and the most disappointing..the waiting staff were neither helpful or inviting and seemed unhappy they had customers. Such a let down on Mother's day weekend.

Food was overall okay; but portion sizes tiny. Five bites in the truffle pasta (although good). The chips tasted like undercooked boiled potatoes. Service staff was very friendly, but service in general was very slow. Took a while to get our menus. We also both had mussels and a few hours later we were both sick so suspect the seafood was responsible for this.

Having read the overall great reviews of Murmur we were excited to have booked. The food was ok but not special and the customer service slow and lacked warmth. I was disappointed in the lack of flavour to most dishes. The biggest issue for me...

Superb from start to finish. Went with fish all the way the highlight of our four starters was the gournard with crab sauce. The main of grilled whole lemon sole, very plump and generous fish perfectly cooked. Can’t wait to go back again as the specials change frequently as they reflect the best of the local catch.

Small and so, more intimate. Delicious food.

Delicious food, high quality ingredients and interesting menu options, Monkfish dish was dreamy! A friendly, efficient and professional service. Very accommodating to families, the kids loved their meal. Will be back 100%.

I'm a little conflicted in what I want to write for my review. The food was very good, especially the lobster croquettes. Prices for the quality of food and service was absolutely fine, but £37 for a decent bottle wine is unnecessary. If the wine list was reviewed to offer decent wines at more reasonable prices then I would recommend and attend again with all friends visiting from out of town. We were also advised that cash is no longer accepted as a payment method. So I'm now carrying around £100 cash as I paid for my friend on my card and I am the one who have to be inconvenienced with a trip to the bank rather than the restaurant doing this. So, with a couple of small changes such as accepting cash for payment and wine list prices similar to The Grand & The Hilton in Brighton would probably gain a lot more repeat customers and loyalty.

We had a late lunch on Sunday and it was fabulous. The two roasts which were specials were fabulous and the halibut was out of this world. A fantastic setting overlooking the sun shining low over a very rough sea. Very special.

On entering the small beachside restaurant we noted it was empty, maybe because it was still early… there wasn’t any atmosphere and we had to ask if it was actually open. We were told they were so we entered and noted they were serving some...

Our second visit and we travelled to Brighton from Leicester especially for murmur and also Michael’s other restaurant (64 degrees). But Covid made us wait. Well it was worth it again. Location - beautiful and looking out to see and watching the world go by....

Great location. Lovely staff. Shame the kitchen had given up on trying. For a menu with only a limited selection, missing one of its star meat courses and a fish special being sold out by 730pm, it felt like the cupboard was bare. The signature...

What a lovely place! Along the promenade you are really spoiled for choice of places to eat. This restaurant that we came across had a lovely selection of dishes. Everything that came from the kitchen looked very appetising ! We definitely will be back

I honestly couldn't write a post good enough for Murmur! You should eat here, period! The staff was wonderful. Clemont was a great host and helpful to every guest that I saw arrive. Chef Micheal made some amazing food that I will remember for a long time. The Lobster Crockett was top notch and a perfect starter. The waitress was lovely and recommended the special "Skate Wing" which I had never heard of. I was delighted to try something new and it was amazing. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked, without being an over fishy tasting fish. And desert was absolutely the best. Hot chocolate that was so rich in flavor and Sticky Toffee pudding that was an absolutely heavenly peice of perfection. My picky eater of a daughter said it was the best pasta she has even had! If you want a nice dining experience on the sea, eat here!

Relaxed but professional environment, fantastic service and absolutely delicious food overlooking the beach! Had the best oysters (Poole) I’ve had in a while! What more can one ask? 5/5 experience!

Staff here are so friendly and welcoming. Accommodated my GF and DF intolerance. Pork belly took new number one spot in Brighton as far as I'm concerned, prove me different.

Been to murmur a couple of times, excellent!!

We ate here a few weeks ago and we were so disappointed that no Oysters were available and that several of the specials had been sold by 8pm. Tuna starter completely overpowered by passion fruit puree. Cod extremely underwhelming. Shame.

Good food, attentive but not intrusive service

Nice 'meaty' oysters and a good selection of starters. The chef was kind enough to do a custom white seafood tagliatelle which was delicious. Lovely service with a friendly and attentive waitress. Would happily return!

Had the best time at this very sweet restaurant right on the beach between Brighton and Hove. It was tipping down but there was room inside. The lobster croquettes were memorable and the catch of the day (I had plaice), was super fresh and thankfully...

Murmur your food and service was excellent! But your toilets were shocking! The worst toilets I have been in for a very long time they would definitely prevent me from returning. I was literally gagging. Such a shame as everything else was perfect.

the food was not up to the price, I don't mind paying a high price for a coffee but when the coffee is bad... and the croissant was bad too, the manager then wanted to argue that they are the best and bahbah, I paid like £7 for a coffee and a croissant I don't want to argue it was not good enough full stop, and I don't get sold on the view, the view is amazing but that is free.

Had lunch here twice whilst in Brighton, excellently cooked fresh fish both times. If you enjoy eating seafood in the open air whilst watching the world go by then this is the place for you.

Popped in for a quick snack and drink. Lovely staff failed to serve either for half an hour. Had to leave as had a meeting. Shame as I’m sure it could be great.

We went to Murmur last night. The sea front setting was gorgeous, the food was incredible and the service was excellent. I don’t usually like much seafood but this was out of this world. Thoroughly recommend!

Excellent find. The head waiter took us to a table with a view of the sea and the sunset. We were served by an attentive waiter who knew her job well. All the staff were friendly and good. We must not forget the chef's, each plate was perfect. The tuna tartare was delicious as was the duck salad. The main course fish was fresh, all agreed that the tomato sauce on the seafood tagliatelle oozed with flavour. If you have room for desert, I can recommend the truffles. We will go back on our next visit to Brighton.

Beautiful day spent with friends down from London … have always enjoyed the service & position of the restaurant…but we had just cancelled a reservation elsewhere because reviews said the portions were very small … only to find that Murmur had altered their portions to small plates even for their mains ! Told the staff that the portions for the vegetable curry was tiny & they said they would pass it on to the kitchen… but we were disappointed that no one responded .. Decided that we wouldn’t chance the deserts as probably they would be tiny too ! Walked to Rockwater where we ordered more food ! Honestly, we were still hungry! We had always enjoyed their set menu & portions were fine … don’t know why they have minimised their mains …the curry was really a starter size …
