We went for dinner on a wet and windy Thursday evening. We did not book but we were welcomed with our 3 damp labradors. Great beer and gin, amazing food, fantastic service by attentive and caring lady. Wonderful atmosphere. This is a high end hidden gem. If you love good food in a very friendly pub, Go there. It's truly one of the best meals we have had.

Spent the day visiting Cerne Abbas, walking up Giant Hill, exploring the village etc. We chose The New Inn for lunch on the basis their menu looked a little nicer than most regular pubs. We were not disappointed!!!! Such a beautiful and well kept building for starters. The service was excellent. And the food was AMAZING!! Top notch restaurant style, but at gastro pub prices. Would definitely recommend taking a drive out to visit The New Inn.

What a delightful Sunday Lunch. The beef was of the highest quality and the vegetables cooked to perfection all topped off with a whopping Yorkshire! Set within a cosy beautifully decorated pub with efficient friendly staff what more could you wish for. At £25 it’s a little more than other venues but the quality and generous vegetable portions are worth every penny extra. Cannot wait to head back soon!

Our hosts, Julian and Annette were most hospitable. They run a small dining room and I suggest you book dinner ahead of time. We didn’t and ate at the Royal Oak. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. Pub is quaint and the accommodation in renovated stables. The village of Cerne Abbass is totally charming. Accommodation- bed comfortable, shower hot, everything you need. Breakfast was over and beyond, simply fabulous.

First time in the new inn. The interior is very nice with a mix of soft and wooden seating. More of a restaurant than a pub I feel. However I ordered a pint of palmers gold. Sad to say that this also had the sour taste beer takes on if the pipes are not in good condition and washed out with care. Pity.

What can I say? New Inn, which web-describes itself as a "beautiful 17th (?) c. former coaching inn in an iconic building in the heart of Cerne Abbas, one of the prettiest villages in England", is genteely decorated in those muted colours currently loved by a plethora of Inns and gastro-pubs dotted around the country, and is now so blandly well-groomed as to have lost whatever "character" and "magic" it may once have possessed. Hoping for one of its own webpage-described "fabulous food in a charming setting" experiences for our special Birthday lunch, the sample web-menu, when we booked, promised much. On the day, the weather behavd itself and we were seated in outside on the patio ....my husband ordered (and received!) a very nicely-cooked (@30) steak. I, finding that the delicious-sounding celeriac soup I'd noticed on the web-sample menu was no longer on the menu, looked for another starter. Asking how many king scallops (@£14) came in the portion was told there were 3, and, thinking the price a tad steep for only 3, I opted, instead for a starter, (also @£14) which sounded great, of "asparagus and pecorino cheese in a chili salsa...." Well, my delicious-sounding £14 starter of asparagus/pecorino/chili turned out to be, when it materialized ........a biggish white plate on which were grandly sat a teaspoon-size dollop of green/white stuff (presumably the pecorino ?, but tasting of absolutely nothing) and..... wait for it!..... THREE bright green spears of asparagus set on top of a minute smear of chili-ish oil. In short, here, at New Inn, it seems that sometimes "you get what you pay for" (and sometimes you don't!)

Monday is not a good choice for a pub meal in Cerne Abbas as the best option is closed and the other two, including the New Inn do not offer their full dinner menu. The New Inn has a “Burger Night” menu which my wife tried an I had moules and fries which were good. However, my wife reported that her burger was dry and tasteless.

Just home from a 4 night stay. The new inn is perfect. Gorgeous room with daily room service and mini fridge stocked with complimentary fresh milk and water plus a few other bits at a very reasonable price. A beautiful pub with a good selection of cider, ales and wines, fantastic food, breakfast (the best scrambled eggs) lunch (gorgeous sandwiches) and dinner (omg the steak was amazing). The owners are two of the loveliest people who made our stay with our two dogs wonderful. This was our third time staying, and we are planning the fourth.

On the whole it was very good. The one thing I would pass on to the chef would be, if you are serving a vegetarian Sunday roast, please make some vegetarian gravy to go with it. Wow! What an amazing find. We went with our son and daughter in law for Sunday lunch, such a lovely place with character and lovely atmosphere. We didn’t have a starter as there was nothing that we fancied but the roast was amazing, we had the beef and chicken, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, green beans and cabbage all lovely and nice and hot. We had a pudding, that was amazing, highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding. Not the cheapest but well worth the money. Staff were attentive and service superb, well done all.

I have enjoyed many meals at The New Inn but todays heights reached a new level. The roast beef was simply faultless. As was everything that accompanied it. There are however people out there who dislike garlic. My guest and I have eaten all over the world and would possibly if pushed eat garlic as a main course. We both noticed that the sirloin had possibly been rubbed with some garlic or had some garlic salt sprinkled on it prior to cooking. Absolutely no problem to ourselves but possibly something to ask about if you dislike it. My only slight gripe is the price of wine by the glass. £9.70 for a large glass of Malbec is a tad pricey and add the service charge brings it to nearly £11.00 for a single glass. Wine prices in pubs has long been a gripe of mine. Having personally won wine pub of the year by the Good Pub Guide more years ago than I prefer to remember it is simply something that annoys me.

A lovely old coaching inn in the heart of Cerne Abbas. A very warm welcome from the bartender and locals alike. After much deliberation over what to choose we were then given the specials for the day, making our choice even harder! Finally settled on the steak and the beef pie with roasted cabbage. The steak was cooked to perfection and very flavoursome (it’s the only time my partner hasn’t reached for the salt and pepper). The pie was perfect, with a proper pastry top and bottom (not a stew with a lid masquerading as a pie). Crisp, delicate pastry, hearty meaty filling and the cabbage was a revelation, absolutely delicious. Thank you New Inn for a lovely evening.

I have visited this pub before and had a lovely meal but have recently visited again for a drink and was extremely disappointed at the pub’s atmosphere it was unpleasant from when we walked through the door and felt as though we were being judged left, right and center. The bar staff were very blunt and not welcoming at all, it did not have a friendly, relaxed vibe as a country pub like this should. I think it’s safe to say I have been put off visiting again unfortunately which is a shame as the food is good! Seeing as the bar staff are often the first faces you see when entering a pub a much more welcoming reception would go a long way with customers.

Very cold unwelcoming atmosphere, bar staff are very rude. Me and my friends came into the pub for a drink and potentially some food in the garden after having driven to Cerne from Weymouth. The bar lady interrupted my friend when she was ordering rudely asking for ID when all that was ordered was an orange juice and lemonade, not to mention that alone was almost £5!!!!, the whole place gave a cold vibe. won’t be returning didn't feel welcomed and it set the mood of what was supposed to be a nice evening out into a bad one.

I came for lunch on Saturday for the first time with my husband and dog. We were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. We quickly discovered this is a dog friendly pub and our furry friend was made very welcome with a treat and water on arrival. The menu choice was amazing and the service was friendly and attentive. On arrival the appearance of the food was 5 star and most importantly the food was fresh and delicious. My husband tried the local Dorset cider, Orchard Haze, it is a lovely cloudy and crisp cider for a hot summer day, definitely worth a try whilst in Dorset! The facilities are well maintained and there is dedicated parking to the rear of the pub which makes finding parking much easier during the busy holiday season. There is plenty of outdoor seating with a beautiful garden so children and dogs have space to play. The pub is located in the picturesque village of Cerne Abbas with beautiful old buildings, well worth a look. The ancient Chalk Cene Giant is within walking distance from the pub. So we decided to walk off all the delicious food and had a coffee on our return from the Giant, ready for the journey home. We had a really great all round experience and are really excited to visit again, although next time, stay in one of the rooms at the pub so we can explore more of the Dorset delights.

Four of us for dinner on a quiet winter night. Our expectations were that we would be faced with a limited menu and a reduced service. Not a bit of it. We were greeted and seated with humour and a pleasant reception. Our drinks order was taken and came very quickly. The dining room has a relaxed ambiance and the staff were fantastic. The menu was a super selection of imaginative dishes as well as a specials selection that matched it. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. They tend to use French words to describe some of the dishes and my advice to these people is to stop it! Having travelled extensively in French my experience is that most French food is over-rated, over-priced and very rustic. This food is certainly not that and can leave the French standing believe me it is that good. This is not “high end” dining and doesn’t pretend to be but it is excellent gastropub fare. They have nice wine selection and the wine was good, no question about that, but the prices are perhaps a little too expensive for the varieties on offer. A nice bar, good beer and a wide selection of gins all add to make your visit very enjoyable indeed.

I visited with a group of 4 friends on Saturday 1st Feb. The meal was outstanding and the service exemplary . We had two vegans in our party and the waitress was very knowledgeable about ingredients of each dish and very accommodating of their needs.Great selection of gin at the bar (even some Cornish ones!) and a good choice of wines. We had a great evening and would highly recommend this venue.

So we went for a family meal on a Sunday. Waitress was pleasant enough but if you use a lot of foreign words in the menu it might be an idea to learn how to pronounce them. Starters of soup were good. However the Harissa Beef Burger was shocking. The bun was so stale is was set solid, the meat was dry and crumbly, the chips so thin and overcooked that they resembled breadsticks and the salad dead as a dodo. But the worst of it was the incredibly noisy people .... the worst sort of female great bore of today giving her mindless political views .. holding a shouted conversation over our heads throughout the meal. Even when we moved they didn’t take the hint. The management of the pub really should have suggested they got a table together in a hidden alcove. We abandoned dessert and won’t go again.

I’ve dined here only once unfortunately! The food was amazing, the staff were super friendly and very understanding of my fussy nature! On a separate occasion I Popped in one evening with the dog to be greeted with dog friendly Ice cream!

A superb lunch in a very comfortable and beautifully appointed restaurant. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. The professional standards here easily outclass everywhere else we’ve tried within Dorset. Thankyou all.

Checked in after a longish drive down, with a stop at nearby Old Sarum. I was famished and my wife was peckish. She had the soup of the day, with an ample portion accompanied with bread and butter. I had the shin of beef special. It was beautifully presented and, though seemingly a small portion on a large plate, it was just enough and left room for dessert. The quality of the produce was evident and the flavour, astonishing!! We had a medly of sweet goodies for dessert and over-all, one of he best meals I've had in a long time. Staff at the New Inn are extremely friendly and professional.

We stayed for one night and we were so pleased with our overall stay. The weather was awful on the Friday so we didn't get to explore the village, but it looked so pretty. The inn is in the centre of the village and there is ample parking to the rear (it is also in walking distance to The Giant). We had a lovely welcome from Annette who showed us to the beautiful Winterbourne Suite. The facilities in the room were perfect, everything that you'd need and enough towels!

Enjoyed a light lunch in this pretty pub in Cerne Abbas. Good food, great service. One of our party lef their glasses behind and the pub happily sent the glasses on to them in the post. Recommended.

We had our Christmas Dinner at The Junction. I had the lamb and it was great. Thanks to the chefs and the bar staff for making our Christmas Day very special. See you next year.

Disappointing lamb roast dinner (as it arrived with hardly any lamb and loads of fat). I think I was the last plated roast of the day-they should have admitted that they didn’t have any more lamb left and offered me something else.

My disappointment of The Elm Tree closing has been relieved a small amount in finding out both the Head Chef Emma and Paul Clark have moved down the road to Salt in Portland so I do not have to go far for an amazing meal now

Very poorly equipped accommodation, cold room, bathroom very outdated. No bathmat stiff old towels, little space to put anything. It said on advert that breakfast & a coffee machine was provided. No breakfast. One old tea bag in a jar. Only packet’s of coffee no decaf. You have to go to bar & ask for milk, which then stands out all night, some sugar in a bowl with no cover & no teaspoon. Bed reasonably comfortable, but imagine if it was winter would be cold. Tv had no remote control so you had to get out of bed to turn the volume up or down. Had to ask for a key to lock the room when we went out. Also when you leave in mornings, you have to let yourself out a side door. As the pub staff are not up till later!! Not worth £100!
