Great food , excellent service and staff were really friendly

All staff are always friendly & attentive service.

Fantastic experience, very pleasant staff, Martin was very polite and always has a smile on his face especially when I realised I didn’t have bacon on my burger (drama) he brought me 3 pieces of the juiciest bacon for my burger haha!

Excellent service from Martin and Cam! Nothing was too much trouble and the food was great. Great clean facilities and nice atmosphere. Will definitely be back soon!

Birthday treat not such a treat ! .. some of the food was inedible ie the pie was like a brick and the scampi was hard and crunchy. And no strawberries for kiddies dessert. Service and staff were good and they couldn’t apologise enough a partial refund was given along with complimentary discount on desserts.

Great atmosphere at the Norman, Tracey & Daisy welcomed us with a warm welcome and were extremely polite. Food and drinks are great value for money. Will be returning very soon :)

Massive thank you to Tracey and Daisy for making our night special, me and my partner came in for food as we have done also previously and both always make us feel welcome. Food was delicious and will be back again soon.

Food came out to scratch loved my meal. All staff were lovely and welcoming, especially Niall laura and martin who were working today.

My husband and I went for lunch to celebrate his birthday. Unfortunately, there were items on the menu that were unavailable. One of which I wasn't told about until the food was brought to table. No onion rings so a few extra chips were brought which were cold. I would not have requested them as a replacement for onion rings. My Hunter's chicken was so overcooked that it had barely any cheese or BBQ sauce left. The leaves that were on the plate looked curled up. (Supposed to be some kind of shoots. The tomato was barely warm but not grilled. My husband had fish chips and mushy peas. The chips and peas were cold and very small portions for a full size meal. No tartar sauce a available. The pub was almost empty and it was around 1.30 to 2pm , therefore I don't know how they can provide a full menu through the evening.

excellent service by Laura , very friendly and welcome, we bought food for 8 adults which tasted fresh, warm and tasty. Drinks we had lots of choice 5*

The food was substandard. The gravy that accompanied the burger was not chicken gravy as described, it was tasteless, cold and lumpy. The meal was supposed to come with onion rings but only two of the four burgers were served with onion rings. There was no bbq sauce on the burger despite it been described as having bbq sauce on it.

Top pub, great value for money. Staff always really friendly and nothing is a bother. Came for Sunday lunch and the food was beautiful. Really tasty beef!

Brilliant local. Was visiting friends and called in for food and a few drinks. Drinks reasonably priced and good pub grub. I had the kebab, have to say was delicious. Plenty parking and playground for the kids. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Will return when back in the area.

Food was ok but you never put wilted side salad on a plate intact some of rocket I would say was a week old and that came with main course. Garlic mushrooms burnt my mouth as they were full of water because they were frozen. So all in all not a good experience. It was also a birthday meal for a friend and we travelled 100 miles to take our friend for lunch for her 70th birthday. My husband had fish what was so curled up it could have passed for a banana.

Recommend to all in Barnsley, had dad's wake here, brilliant staff, atmosphere, food and drinks. The Norman Inn made us and our friends and family very welcome.

Went for breakfast with Santa and it was terrible. Breakfast was cold and bacon just crumpled. Santa did not interact with kids at all. Woman stood at side had to ask as he was not bothered . Worse experience ever. All they did was think of an event to get money no thought at all for kids

Food very basic but not basic prices

Terrible Xmas dinner. Service so slow drinks took 45mins to arrive, waited 1hrs each time for starters and again for main dinner. Asked several times for staff to chase up. Soup tasty but only just warm, dinner bland, soggy and very disappointing only Luke warm, berry crumble tasty but furnace hot. Atmosphere dull. Due to waiting so long we were getting stressed and annoyed, couldnt hear any music until near end and not Xmas music. Some people had crackers we didnt get any. A lot of money spent for a terrible experience ruined our day. Could say a lot more - dire!

The food was perfect, no complaints regarding the quality of the food. The only issue was the wait from starter to main but this was understandable considering it was Christmas day and how busy it was. Would definitely go again

Went for Christmas Dinner. Food was superb. Service was a little slow but were extremely busy.

Awful management and terrible food. - Christmas meal for 7 all prebooked and pre ordered months in advance - Table booked for 4pm - Arrived at 4pm - Last years Table was nicely decorated with Christmas crackers, tinsel, Table cloth and cutlery - This Christmas had none of the above, only napkins - 4:30pm still no starter, asked when it would arrive and was asked which course we were on - 4:45pm still no starter so asked again, told they'd check with chef - 5:00pm finally arrived with soup starters but only 4 instead of 5, one of which wasn't vegan even though clearly stated on the booking order for 1 vegan soup, to which they told us it didn't say that on the booking - 5:10pm finally came with the correct order. Soup was luke warm and bread was stale. - 5:30pm asked for Christmas crackers to keep children entertained, was told there's none left and would be given a round of drinks for free as an apology (never arrived) still no mains so asked when it would come, was told they'd ask the chef - 5:35pm one of us had to leave as we had a 1 year old baby that was getting very restless - 5:40pm waiter came asking us all what we ordered for our mains, again, we pre booked, so it should be clear what we'd ordered - 5:55pm mains finally arrived, some plates were missing some food whilst others had everything on, lack of gravy on some plates whilst others were swimming in gravy. All food was luke warm at best, vegetables weren't peeled and severely undercooked, 2 plates were brought without puddings and were told to wait for the puddings to be ready, 1 plate had half a pudding on - 6pm asked for refund, told they'd refund but couldn't refund on the day - When speaking to the manager after he seemed completely unbothered by the whole situation, refused to apologise. - Multiple other tables had similar experiences and were also leaving early having not been given their food. - Complete lack of communication about any issues with food or waiting from any member of staff - If we'd have not asked any questions I believe we would've been sat there without food for the whole time, without a single apology.

Christmas dinner was very disappointing.

Went for Xmas day dinner for 6x persons and couldnt fault the service or the meals. We were met on arrival by Martin and shown to our table (16) by our table host Lilly. Lilly was very well dressed for xmas day and was very attentive with drinks and when she could serve the individual courses. Our whole party thoroughly enjoyed our visit to you on this xmas day. I was surprised at how many staff were working but i saw it helped the day go smoothly. We were that thankful of everyone that worked that day that we left a £300 tip for everyone to share as we felt they had done a tremendous job and sacrificed there Xmas day to make everyone else's Xmas day feel very special. Many thanks to Martin and all his team and a day very well presented and delivered to a high level of service. Best Xmas day for food service and atmosphere we have experienced in a long time... Well done..!!!

Jane Baxter ... I'm really sorry but I was a customer here earlier when you went absolutely crazy!!... The staff was doing much more and beyond to serve everyone as quick as they could... I was shocked when Jane out of the blue starting shouting and swearing at the staff in front of adults and children

Absolutely shocking Xmas eve and only two staff, has the kand bird never run a pub at xmas before

Bar staff was unsure what 'gluten free'meant, determined that 'alcohol free' was the same thing. Cider on draught was poor. Several menu items were unavailable, the hunters chicken arrived very overcooked. On a positive, the chips were very nice and portion size was very good. Staff were very friendly, impeccably polite and well dressed. Overall, food was poor, drinks were poor, but staff were very welcoming.

Large work party came for a meal and drinks , well looked after and food was all delivered together and was lovely

Lovely staff, lovely food, good atmosphere!

We go every Wednesday for the quiz and usually eat beforehand. Lilly, Matt and Daisy are great behind the bar. Food is pub grub and is tasty and hot. Dale is the quizmaster and he's the only thing that let's the pub down - No - kidding! He's hilarious, keeps the place buzzing and makes it a great night out. It's also dog friendly and has treats on the bar as well as water bowls on request. The outdoor seating is another feature that is great in summer for watching the world go by. The Norman is and always has been a popular watering hole and puts Monk Bretton on the map.

Spend a lot of time in The Norman, three or four times a week. Good staff and a good atmosphere. Bad point is the drinks are way overpriced for the area.

We come every week for the quiz and food and we love it here. The staff are delightful and we always feel so welcome. Oh and on a positive note we actually won the quiz last week yay!

Tried their festival menu , quite low quality food, vegetables were cold . Not good value for money.

No atmosphere, food service was shocking. If you’d like your food please order one week in advance.

Asked for a fillet chicken burger today waited 30 mins and when I received it the chicken burger was like rubber way overcooked and when I showed him he told me they would make another and it wasn’t much better so I took a photo of it to put on here to show also my wife s meal that was sausages and mash was over cooked but she ate what she could as she had to go to work

Very friendly, value for money pub food

Our local had food and drink and was lovely. Staff are helpful and keen to help. Premises were clean and kids playground looked safe.Enjoyed it but was disappointed all Sunday lunches had been sold out. It was only 2.30pm! Ate off the normal menu but that is not what we really wanted.

On this visit, the tables had empty glasses and napkins on. The tables were not clean, nor were the menus. There was once again a 45 minute wait. The men’s toilet was unpleasant.

Okay for a pub meal,don't expect anything really special though, prices are OK.

Came for my birthday, friendly greeting by female staff member. Meals once ordered wasn't too long in arriving. All fine except steak on mixed grill ordered by 2 people was really gristly so most was left. This was mentioned to staff when they collected our plates and asked how meals were. To be fair she came back and offered my husband a refund for his grill which he refused as he said he had eaten everything else on plate so he had a free desert instead as he hadn't ordered one with the others. All in all no complaints and will come back again in the future

Great bar staff, cocktails made from scratch rather than pre mixed. Food average, but great if you just want a snack whilst out for a drink

Excellent pub atmosphere. Fish and chips are first class. Long wait for food when busy.

Had the haddock and chips. Fresh fish battered and fried by them. Mushy peas and Tartare sauce. Absolutely lovely. Would highly recommend.

Staff and service are always on point, friendly and efficient. Food is always hot and cooked perfect. A game of pool while we're waiting. What more can you want from a little family meal out.

Had a surf and turf at the Norman and my husband had the mixed grill. I asked for mine medium not expecting it to be right, but they must have a new chef since the last time we were here as the steak was perfectly cooked! It’s not often you actually get what you ask for when it comes to steak but our compliments to the chef. The service was brilliant too, the only thing is the atmosphere left a lot to be desired; we went on a weekend in the afternoon and though there were plenty of people in, I think the layout of the place needs looking at, and it’s in great need of refurbishment. The staff are fab and the food is brill,just needs a bit of tlc and change round to the layout to make it warm and cosy.

I’m not sure what the names are of the staff but they are all really friendly and very approachable. The bar man is extra lovely, chatting, friendly and very helpful. He always makes us feel welcome. I love this place it’s really inviting. We’ve booked a table for 8 on Christmas Day and we are really looking forward to it.

Somewhat unorganized. Nobody to greet you when you go in and the staff don't even ask you when standing and waiting at the doorway. I eventually went up to him and told him that I booked. He didn't know what I should do, so had to go to ask somebody else. Finally sat us down and we ordered food at the bar. The food was not bad but just the service was poor.

Martin is very rude, poor service and customer skills.
