A Proper Chippy with a Friendly Vibe This little fish and chip shop is a real gem! We recently visited and were thoroughly impressed. The fish was absolutely divine – perfectly cooked, crispy batter, and incredibly fresh. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients. The chips were also top-notch, golden and fluffy on the inside. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and inviting. It had a classic "chippy" feel with a modern touch. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. They were especially attentive to our children, ensuring they were comfortable and happy. We loved the fact that the restaurant was clearly family-friendly. There was plenty of space for the kids to move around, and the staff were very accommodating to their needs. We will definitely be returning to this fantastic fish and chip shop soon!

Decent enough fish and chips and the servers kept asking us how our food was which was really good. They dint let me play in the children's area which was a bit mean but OK. There was a bunch of the staff sitting in the eating area when we walked in and the looked surprised we were there. Not bad, not great

Went there on a quiet afternoon. People were popping on for takeaways non-stop. The fish was cooked exactly as I like it. The chips were nice too. The waitress and the cook behind the counter were both very nice and did a great job. I used the toilet upstairs and I saw the great view. It's actually nice. I was in a hurry but thank you for everything!

Ok so spent 30 pounds on food to take away and chips were over cooked pasty was that over done I had to pull it apart even my dog would not eat the chips oh well food for the gulls if of course they eat it avoid like the plague

Lovely view upstairs. Recommend the plaice fish! Had the floor to ourselves. As quirky as those fish plates are they were impractical and difficult to eat from. Reliably standard good chocolate. Had some adjustable options for vegans (very hard along the coast with a rich history of fishing, I know but we managed and was enjoyed) Calamari was strange though. Too rubbery and would not recommend. Service was the best thing about this place. Staff were friendly and very accommodating could not fault them on that :)

Excellent. Food cooked fresh so really nice and hot right to the end of my meal. I had cod and chips. Son had saveloy and chips. No complaints. Chips were crispy and the batter on the cod was also crispy. Staff were lovely. Will make sure this will be the place to visit whenever in Hastings.

I don't know what the chips taste like as have been waiting 20 minutes for takeaway chips...There were only 4 people including us in the queue

Lovely place for family fish and chips, we managed to get a table upstairs in the window, people watching with awesome fish and chips. The service was excellent, the restaurant was clean and the staff attentive.

Every time we are in Hastings we always go to the old town fryer. The food is always hot and delicious. The service are friendly and always happy to help. It's a great atmosphere to bring kids too with the upstairs seating area having great views!

The menu is a delightful mix of classic and contemporary dishes, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The staff truly made the experience unforgettable. They were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, offering excellent recommendations. The service was prompt, and I felt like a valued guest throughout my meal.

Worst fish & chips in my life. No idea what the fish was & the oil tastes rancid. Fish inedible, chips the same due to the taste. Unsure what fish is being served up. £15 in the bin! A fish& chip shop has one job & they couldn’t even do that

First visit to Hastings. Found a local fish and chips in Hastings (They were recommended by some other local people). We ordered one Cod and Haddock and they were so good and delicious. Will definitely come back when next time we visit Hastings.

I came for a daily visit to Hastings and I was looking for having fish and chips as usual since it's my priority every time I come to Hastings. And I finally found the best in town, which is Old Town Fryer fish&chip shop. Everything's cooked to order and so fresh. I highly recommend to visit Old Town Fryer if you ever come down to Hastings and fancy some fish&chips.

A day out with my 82 year old wheelchair bound mother , my sister & my niece & nephew . The staff were lovely & allowed my mum to order a childs meal as she has a small appetite . Every dish was perfectly cooked , the prices are very good and there is definately something for everyone on the menu . When we left the restaurant my sister had left her purse on the table ! The young man who had looked after us came running to find us & return my sister`s purse , best chip shop by a mile ... Thank you for a wonderful lunch !

we had 2x cod and chips with mushy peas £27.00 for a take away very expensive. chips good one fish was obviously not fresh more like frozen as it was cut with straight edges as you would buy at a supermarket. the other not sure it was cod not fluffy or light flesh was not good poor taste. peas were very bland. why cannot shops on the seaside sell decent fish caught that day?

Best chips we have ever had!! My daughter and I spent 3 days travelling around Kent last week,in our stop in Hastings we were craving for some chips with Ketchup and ended up here, seriously they were soo good, I think I paid £3.50 for the cone and there was plenty, we ate them all not even 1 left, delicious. The service was lovely and super dupper quick🤗🤗we will be back

It's a great place to have some delicious fish and chips. Service was great, very child friendly. It's great for our 1-year-old to have some fish. Loved how they served the meals on fosh designed plates, too!

We were lucky enough to sit upstairs in the window looking out across the funfair and beach. The service was excellent. The restaurant was clean. The food was prompt and delicious. The plates were quirky and fun. It was a bit more expensive compared to other places especially the drinks.... £2.50 for a can of Coke! Overall, very good.

Amazing, just amazing. Staff was friendly, fish was excellent and the chips were delicious. I would recommend to go upstairs so you can get a view of the seaside. Would DEFINITELY recommend!

I went to the Old Town Fryer with my family! The kids had cod and chips and I had the locally sourced Rock from the fishermen literally the other side of the road. The Fish was cooked to perfection and as fresh as you like! Bosh!

Wow what can I say.. Excellent fish and the chips are amazing..the place is clean tidy and also has a little area for the kids to eat.. everything seemed fresh and the oil very clean.. very impressed with this establishment credit to all involved there.. will defo be coming back..

We ate an amazing fish plate. It was very delicious and satisfying. The environment and staff are very warm and they do their job well. But the venue manager was a real friend. I'm glad I knew you. Usually the best fish and chip shop in Hastings, with great quality food and very good portion sizes, but unfortunately the portion size of chips appeared to have shrunk considerably today and was not adequate for the price. Hopeful that this was just a one off 🤞

I've visited for takeaway food on a few occasions now, with every experience being as good as the last. The food has been of consistent excellent quality and cooked to order. I'm based on the opposite side of town; travelling here is well worth the time and effort.

Grabbed some chips for a butty at home. Good thick cut proper chips. Not greasy. Was astounded at the price for chips though. But I don't eat out much.

I have had the opportunity to try the famous fish and chips from this local restaurant, and I must say that the reputation they have is well deserved. The plate was huge and the fish was perfectly fried, with a crispy coating on the outside and tender meat on the inside. Additionally, the price was very reasonable considering the portion size, making it an attractive option for those looking for a filling meal without spending too much. However, I must mention that the customer service left a little to be desired. Despite asking for more lemon to accompany our fish, they only brought us a small additional wedge, which was not enough to satisfy our needs. In fact, they didn't even give us half of a whole lemon, which was a bit disappointing. Despite this inconvenience, we really enjoyed the food overall. The fish was delicious and the portion was generous, which somewhat made up for the lack of customer service. In short, if you are looking for a good fish and chips at a reasonable price, this place definitely delivers, just make sure you order enough lemon beforehand.

Bad. Soggy batter on leathery thin strip of what meant to be medium cod that at best a small. My wife’s portion the same. Chips ok. Disappointing.

Unfortunately my fish was off smelt of ammonia, they did change it without apology . The second batch was also off I gave up at that point . I have eaten here In the past and it's been fine but I'm afraid I've been put off now .

Excellent fish and chips and generous portions, at a good price. We had large rock and chips and large haddock and chips. Both very filling and nicely cooked fresh. Good crispy batter. Comparatively the mushy peas seem a little expensive. We had an early lunch when it was quiet. Unfortunately the very old awards on the wall may be a bit of a put off for some.

Very child friendly . Nice pirate boat area for kids to play and eat . Waitress very helpful and friendly Price was very reasonable. Curry sauce very nice . Nice touch having the ketchup and salt / vinegar on table so can help your self's.

We came to visit Friday 20th Oct as a table of 3, we was greeted as we arrived and shown to our table. We had zara serving us and she was amazing, I was very indecisive with my order, she was very patient with me and nothing was too big or small. Zara made our visit fun, relaxing and enjoyable. The staff were very welcoming, and the food was amazing. The restaurant was clean and tidy. We will definitely be returning and highly recommended old town fryer. Thank you all for a lovely experience.

Excellent food and very friendly staff

Service was good. It wasn't busy when I visited, we were the only customers so we were served promptly. Cod was very good with a nice crispy batter. Chips were a bit limp and not to my taste but they were edible. Mushy peas were great but i didnt like their curry sauce. The tea was served in a large cup and was great. The place was clean and the price was fair too. Overall a nice experience and a place I'd return to.

You are spoilt for choice for fish and chip restaurants in the Hastings Old Town. We went for this one because it had a decent sized inside space. We went for the Haddock and the Plaice, and they were both substantial and very good. And with good friendly service levels from the team working the restaurant section we had no complaints with this one.

£7 scampi for 8 pieces of frozen food, chips were like deep fried mash potato. Calamari were ok. The chicken and mushroom pie had barely any chicken. 27£ for chips, scampi, calamari and 2 cokes. I would not come back.

A favourite 🐟 & 🍟 takeout in Hastings Old Town

Came back to England to visit my family with my American wife. I wanted her to try really good, quality fish and chips. I took us all out to eat and my sister chose here. Gotta say, it didn't disappoint at all. The fish was perfectly cooked and fresh. The sausage was of equal quality, and the saveloy was delicious too. The chips were, if I'm honest, the best part. They were most excellent and so tasty that the first couple I had didn't need salt or vinegar on them. I like salt and vinegar so I added some, and it managed to somehow improve them. The service was good as we had a large dine in order for 11 people and they got everything right and it was all nice and hot. Highly recommended by the locals as a good quality plaice (seewhatididthere?), and also highly recommended by me.

Really enjoyed our meals, but they were slightly longer arriving than I would have hoped. Drinks were initially served very efficiently but regrettably one was missing that was forgotten. Had to be chased, but did receive apology.

Came for a spontanious lunch and decided on this fish and chip shop due to it being nice and busy. They seated me straight away, and quickly took my order. I ordered the Scampi and chips with mushy peas, food arrived nice and quickly in about 15 minutes, lovely and piping hot. It was delicious, scampi was lovely a crispy and chips were fantastic. The fish shaped plate completed the meal! Would definitely come again.

Was not impressed with the Cod sold to me - certainly did not taste or look like cod . Service was poor given a plastic fork to sit outside on their tables , 20 pounds spend plate was apparently an extra charge . Had a beer and a savaloy - fish was a letdown and overpriced I thought for the quality and experience. Chips were okay . Apparently fresh fish not available in the area - in which case I might suggest visiting a local pub

I'm 65 years old and the plaice was the worst I've ever had the fish had almost disintegrated under the concrete batter. Miserable service

Ate here last night and was thoroughly impressed with the large cod and chips. Fish was HUGE and food was cooked fresh you could definitely tell, came to the table steaming hot! My wife is not much of a fish eater but she tried the scampi and finished the plate so no complaints there! 100% recommend, will definitely be returning!

We as a family have used the Old Town Fryer for about ten years, never had a bad meal, and always left satisfied, and will continue to use. 🙂
