Oliver Twist's Sandwich Bar in County Durham

I should have learned by now that if the price of the drinks aren't displayed its because they are too expensive. Sure enough I was charged £3.50 for small cup of coffee and sitting in put the price of the already expensive scone, up to £2.50. There were only two tables in the shop and the only one that was occupied was the one we were at. The woman who I presumed to be the owner, brought out a bowl of chopped lettuce and while placing it in the cooler, proceeded to cough over all the salad items without covering her mouth. Surely when offering seating there should be facilities, but all they could offer was directions to the public ones. Maybe that is were they go to use the toilet. Although the scone was nice the coffee was so weak that I was left wondering if that maybe they reuse the coffee grinds. We had looked up and down the street for somewhere to have our snack and made a bad choice. Best to stick with Costa, at least you know what to expect.

Friendly staff fabulous food. This little takeaway has limited space to sit at table but the food is delicious. Bespoke sandwiches., Tarts, homemade salads, jacket pots cakes and scones. The frittata was really tasty . We will return

Shona and the team catered for our summer sports sessions, with healthy meals to a strict brief, for up to 46 children a day brilliantly. Healthy meals, happy children and parents. Well thought out, beautifully presented and no plastic packaging. Simply fantastic thank you.

I was sitting outside the shop waiting for my wife and friend who were inside the shop getting ice creams etc I was at a table with three chairs This woman from the shop came out and snatched one of the chairs that I was keeping for my wife! She didn’t identify herself when I asked what she was doing but told me to be quiet when I asked her what she was doing. I told her to leave the chairs alone as I was saving them and she asked me very rudely if the sun was affecting me ridiculing my age as I’m an OAP and disabled! She went back inside and shouted at me We took our ice creams and left Disgraceful behaviour and never again will I go there!!

Stopped here for lunch with my wife yesterday. Awesome service and food. Staff were so friendly and efficient. Fully covid safe.

Having eyes up their scones all week we succumbed in the last day of our holiday and it was a good call, they were the best scones we have had in many years! Huge! Me fruit, him cheese. Tea for two. Staff equally friendly to dogs and humans.

Went for a day out in Barnards Castle and stumbled across Oliver Twist's Deli... What a find!! The cheese scones were incredible and the sausage rolls were the best. Service was spot on and you can tell all food is homemade. Thank you Oliver Twist Deli 😊

Jacket potato with coronation chicken and salad, the potatoes are proper jackets no microwaves there is a choice of fillings and salad is added exactly as you wish the rolls are good too as well as a whole range of fresh baking. Well worth a visit.

There is lots of choice for cake and ice cream in BC so it can feel hard to choose. We popped in here and were delighted by the friendliness of the staff and the quality produce. The cherry ice cream in a waffle cone was absolutely delicious!

My friend and I arrived looking for a light lunch and arrived at the sandwich bar by chance. Lucky for us. Lovely ladies serving lovely food and complimentary coffee top up.

We had a few issues while visiting here .. firstly there was no soup , they lady explained it was too early we visited the shop around 11:30am . Then we asked of we could use the loo and it was explained that there were no toilet facilities so the only option was to go next door and used Costas. This was a pain and we did consider leaving . Never the less we stayed , we all ordered the cheese scones and asked for them to be warmed for the lady to then tell us that they do not warm the scones ! . Then a latte was served and it was luke warm . The latte was replaced and the lady took it off the bill but just seemed like we had a bad experience from start to finish here . The lady was not really very helpful and constantly seemed to be telling us that we couldnt have this or that . The scone was nice and they did remove the latte from the bill but we would not return as we know there are nice cafes in the area with better hospitality.

We had driven from Lancashire and Barnard Castle was our mid point tea and loo break. Food looked lovely so in we popped. Ordered tea and asked for the ladies only to be told.......there was none....so where do you wash your hands before you eat? What about after three cups of tea....nice, friendly staff suggested we go and use the facilities next door at Costa. But then wouldn't we just find a table in Costa? We didn't stay.

Lively non chain Cafe serving excellent Sweet and Savoury food. Great banter between Staff and regular customers. Enjoyable lunchtime

Full of flies ,food not covered over , over priced charged me nearly £7.00 for a salad and unwashed lettuce took straight from the bag with their hands not a great experience !

I visited with my husband yesterday and had an extremely warm welcome. The ladies serving were so helpful. We both had delicious jacket potatoes with a really lovely fresh salad. Thank you ladies. An excellent find. Absolutely spotless!

I have never ever had such fun in a cafe with the owner in my life! Add to that the superb food with great friends and it was the best lunch you could want. Jacket potato was gorgeous-no tough skin, panini and goat's cheese tart delicious. Finished off with Brymor ice cream (always the best) and one of our trio had brownie with her ice cream (gut bag). But the staff! Just such a laugh. We will be back every time we visit Barney. Couldn't try the scones because they had sold out because they are so popular.

Well lovely cheerful staff make such a difference and enhance the really good food we purchased ! Their new location on the Horsemarket is a bright, spotless experience with very well presented food.

Lovely cafe, very warm welcome, just had the one table inside at the moment. Cheese scone and carrot cake delicious. Would highly recommend. Well6be back!

We had a lovely lunch at Oliver Twist’s. The ladies that run this little gem are so friendly and helpful. Everything is homemade, even the ham! The coleslaw is to die for and the home made pastries are delicious.

We visited Oliver Twists as a group of 7 on a busy Bank Holiday Saturday. Service was second to none and our assorted paninis, baked potatoes and sandwiches were all delicious. We returned for ice cream!
