Ostello Lounge in Derbyshire Dales

Loved the food. Was very busy but food was still served in about 20 mins and was delicious. We love the lounge group as caters for my husband who is coeliac. My only complaint was it was very hot in there.

Only 4 stars for service, the staff are thin on the ground at times, and one member is running food orders to tables and clearing tables as well as the bar service. Other than that, good place to relax.

Lovely place to eat. Large vegetarian and vegan selection of food available. Dog friendly. Efficient and friendly service. Interesting decor too.

Lovely place, we struggled to find somewhere but then stumbled across this one. I’ve always enjoyed lounges! The sign at the front stated wait to be seated, but then we got told go wherever you want. Warning, do not sit near the window on the right, kids throw toys and make loud noises. Food was delicious, service was lovely.

Popped in for a cuppa and some cakes and really loved it in there. We had cuppas, wine, milkshakes and soft drinks as well as options from the dessert and cakes menus and everything was really tasty and presented so well. The staff were nice and friendly and it didn't really bother us that the servings came out in dribs and drabs - we were a large group. It looks like you can play games there as well and looking around at what others around us were eating it seems like the main meals were as nice and well presented as the drinks and desserts. The decor wasn't really to my taste but it was nice and clean and that's what I mostly look for. Overall it is a great place to go and the prices are reasonable especially considering the quality. Would go again next time we are in Matlock.

From the guys in Bristol who started the chain, saved the Old Crown, turned this building into a spectacular place. First time through Matlock in 2 years. Stopped for a coffee, sat outside. See my video and photo have been deleted.!

We were traveling to the area and it looke amazing. Definitely happy we decides to stop. The staff were so kind and nice. It was the only place we have visited that actually had a corner with toys and books for kids. My daughters loved it, one of the places where we could really enjoy the food and drinks without them nagging us. Would recommend this place

Great place to chill with a beer and the vast choice of food you can sample here. Staff are very good,friendly and on the ball. After informing them there was an issue in the ladies, the manager was straight on it. Loads of space in there

This is our "go to" place for food when we visit Matlock. It can get very busy at meal times so if you can, book a table. Meals are a standard "Lounges" menu but there's usually something for all tastes. They cater well for children and are dog friendly, but please keep your dogs under control and don't let them paw the table. I have visited several of these up and down the country, and have almost always been very happy with what we've found.

What can I say beautiful establishment that always goes above and beyond to make sure you have a good service! Always make fuss of dogs and I love that! Food is always unbelievably good, the big lounge breakfast is a must have!

I had eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and the sauce was very sour and the eggs tasted of vinegar, presumably from putting it in the water when poaching them, however it tasted unpleasant. Dirty coffee cups on our table and waitress never picked them up throughout. Toast on the breakfast was buttered with margarine which I thought was a bit of a cheap option over butter but maybe that's just preference. Staff nice and attentive mostly, would go again but still not a massive improvement since I went a while back.

First time visit. Friendly staff. Plenty of space/tables to eat. Mixture of comfy chairs and dining chairs. Staff were polite and helpful. Placed order at bar for breakfast muffin/sausage or bacon. We pre- judged expecting Wetherspoons. It was far from it. Perfect egg, seasoned. Butchers sausages and bacon on a soft muffin. Very tasty. Good atmosphere. Will visit again. Thanks Paul. 👍

Visited with friends and found his to be a dog friendly friendly pub which was on the premises of the old weatherspoons site. However we found the prices are really high to us northern folk !

The first time I'd visited on the recommendation of a friend to try their hot chocolate. As it was really busy we ordered some food as well. We could order from the table, which was great as we didn't have to queue and wander around with a menu. The drinks came very quickly after the order was placed and the garlic and Italian cheese fried we ordered were cooked to order and came blazingly hot to the table. Both food and drink were excellent and definitely something I would have again and recommend to people who can have chocolate, garlic, butter, cheese etc. It was a bit noisy when we went as it was completely packed, but it wasn't 'bad' noisy, just lots of people having relaxing drinks, snacks, and meals. It's also nice to see that dogs were allowed in so one to add to the list for when we're walking up that way.

The food was very tasty but unfortunately wasn’t warm enough, we didn’t want to complain at the time.

We were seated at table 1which had a view of the kitchen. We placed our order at the bar for food and drinks and we were served our drinks by Chris who waspolite, friendly and efficient. After 25 minutes we could see our food under the lights of the kitchen. And we sat waiting for the rest of it but it didn't appear, we observed a chief dressed in black who was more intrested on his phone. As a chief myself I found this frustrating and annoying. When our food eventually arrived it was Luke warm apart from our children's food. We then spoke to the front of house staff Fran and Chris who were professional and empathetic to our problems. They immediately rectified the kitchens area to point where it was obvious that the kitchen was disfunctional and had no order. I can not express how great the front of of house staff were Chris,Fran and Sally when they were up against a very difficult kitchen. We have visited multiple lounge venues(i.e. Chesterfield, Witney and Paignton. But as a chief I found the kitchen not playing the game. Thanks to the fantastic front o house team Chris, Fran, sally.

Received food before the drinks sweet potato fries about cold and looked like all the scraps also the price of the halloumi fries to receive only 3 working out at just over £2 per fry wow shocking cocktails for the price even used the wrong Rum for a pina colada was vile.

Lovely Loungers in Matlock. Food delightful, we had the 3 tapas. Recommended

We have found in the places we visit that the Lounge is always a 'go to' The food is always excellent, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly and staff really good. Would recommend it every time!

We love Lounges! When we travel around the UK, we seek them out. Great menu, lovely food at reasonable prices and the service is always brilliant. Well done to all your friendly Staff!

We ordered our food from our table using the app. It didn't take long for our drinks and lunch to arrive. The staff were friendly and helpful. The surroundings are quirky, which I really like.

Been to Matlock on numerous occasions, but this was our first visit - wow, we have been missing something really special. Such a lovely place full of character, great service and generous sized portions of tasty food

Nice place to enjoy a drink, atmosphere was very relaxed and easy going, drinks were a little on the pricier side compared to other bars in the area (£17 for a large wine & a pint) but I'd visit again. Didn't have food so can't comment on quality but what I saw coming out to other patrons looked really nice and really well presented

I’m in love with these Lounges chain and wherever i go, alway try to find out if any around so i can visit. Visiting Ostello second time and always feel welcome. Staff friendly and the decor inside beautiful. Food is the speciality of Lounges. Variety of delicious food, veggie, gluten free so do the drinks from coffee, smoothie to beer. Hopefully coming back agin when in Matlock.

We came here on Saturday evening as we were visiting the Deception Escape Rooms around the corner in Matlock. There were a lot of families with noisy children at the time we came in so the atmosphere was a bit noisy. The food we ordered was good. I had the Cheeseburger which was huge and very tasty. I'm not sure that we'd go back there but it was nice enough as a pit stop after the Escape Rooms

We went to Ostello Lounge early on a Tuesday evening for supper. It wasn't busy, the staff are friendly and the food was excellent. We had two chicken and avocado burgers and one vegan cheeseburger (although with real cheese as the diner is vegetarian, not vegan) and they were all excellent. We then had a toasted teacake, a chocolate and raspberry torte and a banoffee cheesecake, which were all very good (in the case of the cheesecake, which I had, it was excellent again). One of the party lives locally and said he will now be visiting regularly, and the other two will certainly be coming back next time we are in Matlock.

Great coffee and decor here, we love it.

My wife and I ordered soup, after around half an hour wait it arrived but it was only just warm, so we told the waitress who took it back to the kitchen. After another half hour it appeared again, this time it was so hot we could not touch it (someone is having a laugh). At this point we left, never to return !

A busy and lively lounge, the food was excellent, hot and tasty. The service was fantastic, even though the restaurant was fairly busy on a Thursday evening, the two members of staff running the front of house were great.

Nice place to have some food and a drink, lots of seating options. Dog and children friendly.

The nasi goreng had no prawns, the lady who bought our food had been combing her hair in the food area, twice! Table was sticky, philly ciabatta was nice though. Definitely not worth £34

Fantastic vegan menu. So tasty!

Lovely place, food is great and reasonably priced. The interior is really nice and the staff are wonderful. The only thing that lets it down is the push to order food via an app. You order by scanning a barcode on your table and then scrolling through a menu on your phone. It works fine and service is quick, but I imagine it could be confusing for some folk. Overall worth a visit if you're in the Matlock area.

Wouldn't waste your money. Had 9 tapas dishes all over cooked, prawns rubbery, calamari just seemed like the left over crumbs out the bag. Everything has chilli in. Chicken burger was about the size of a chicken nugget. Not atmosphere at all and the good sat on the pass for 10 minutes before even bought out as where chatting. Only about 3 other tables here. Not sure why the food has got so bad here

I have never had a bad meal at any lounge bars, 2nd time I have eaten at this location and every time, its perfect. brilliant gluten free options ( I have never had a reaction) very welcoming and dosn't feel like a chain pub/ restaurant. It's so reassuring as soon as you walk in ... they ask if there is any one is gluten free. It's also perfect for the whole family (even the dog) ... all staff where professional and welcoming 🙏 would highly recommend 👌

Lovely food and great service. We have visited quite a few lounges, this branch a couple of times Food is always piping hot fresh and so tasty. Our youngest especially loves the hummus and carrots sticks whiles she waiting for her main such a lovely touch. It's hard to believe that lounge is a franchise and its has a personal feel. With just them little extra sun cream and after sun on a standard in the entrance to a toy corner. They even think of dog with dog bowel to fill with water. Very clean and well kept.

Once a Wetherspoons, now a flouncy cafe bar, Ostelo Lounge served up a Saturday morning breakfast and very nice it was too. It was busy, there was a bit of a wait for the grub but worth the wait. A delicious breakfast, quality food cooked to perfection. Recommended.

Second visit here and like the first one, I was so impressed with both the food and friendly, welcoming service. Lovely cosy interior too and a menu with something for everyone, regardless of dietary need. Will come back!

Pleasantly decorated ex-Wetherspoons, plenty of tables, some nice design touches. Friendly staff, efficient service. Mains were good - especially the chicken, bacon and avocado salad bowl. Juicy burger but poor vinegar-y tomato sauce (c'mon guys, even 'Spoons provides Heinz sauces...). Very attractive moist carrot cake but churros were too doughy and pale - either the batter was too heavy or the oil not hot enough. Reasonably priced but drinks are a lot dearer than 'Spoons: wrong side of £6 for a pint of fairly ordinary draught IPA.

Such a friendly place so welcome the staff are amazing I've actually got hots for one lol they work so hard I did 18yrs barwork know what it's like keep going

We were visiting Matlock and liked the look of the bar it's a lovely quirky place to meet up for coffee or lunch beautifully decorated and spotless clean.there is 😊 a place for the little ones to play and read and plenty of space around the seating areas .The staff were very pleasant and looked very happy in their work we were taken to our seats and asked if we had any allergies and food requirements ( very good service) The menu was great so much choice covering vegan gluten free etc We ordered burgers fries and sides ! It was absolutely beautiful we would highly recommend Ostello lounge we will definitely be back on our next trip .Thank you.

Decent food and service, enough space to be able to find a quiet spot for chatting if you prefer or to take a larger party.

Place is nice and clean and isn't to crowded even when busy.

We love the Lounges and visit them often whenever one is nearby. We've visited Ostello a few times whilst in Matlock, and it's the 2nd time we've come with our baby girl. Staff seem friendly, the place is decorated beautifully and the choice of drinks and food is vast. My only criticism would be that the changing facilities are very dimly lit, so I could barely see what I was doing when changing my baby. When they've had an 'accident', seeing if they're completely clean is pretty helpful! Otherwise though, it's a great, child-friendly place to visit. We'll come again for sure. 😊

Apart from a very noisy bunch of people the place was lovely The food was delicious and service was excellent. , walked in got a table right away ordered on the qr code food came quickly we visited as we got ignored at the place over the road ,but glad we did

It was decent food and services. It was a little slow to seat us initially, the restaurant was fairly quiet however its one of the only places that serves food that late In the area.

Another wonderful lounge to visit! Food to perfection. Staff friendly and helpful. Drinks just as we like them! This is number 13 of the lounges we have visited!

Staff lovely. Coffee served in a small cup and quite expensive. Ladies toilets not tye nicest.

Brilliant food and great service. We had a wheelchair user in the group and the staff were very accommodating. They offered the use of an accessibility aid to heighten the table so he could get closer to eat. Very much appreciated.

Me and my partner came for food to celebrate a special occasion .We were told there would be a half an hour wait on food which we were okay with. The food was lovely other than the desserts. We had churros and a sundae which came with chocolate sauce. This sauce tasted tangy and moldy and smelt sour like vinegar. it was also very lumpy and made the ice cream taste off.

I loved it, the food was lovely and I really liked how the restaurant was set up. It is decorated with many paintings and the furniture matches them very well. I was pleasantly impressed. I will come here again.

A quiet Monday night visit whilst on holiday. We are familiar with the Lounge chain, so this helped our choice for food. Like many places, prices have risen due to the cost of living inflationary rises, and portion sizes seem to have been reduced, too. We took advantage of the Monday Madness offer with 6 adults eating. For £127, just over £21 per person for 2 courses, which we thought was reasonable but felt we needed slightly bigger portions for the price. Great staff, as always, in a busy environment, and they welcomed the dog.

Efficient and friendly meet and greet. Excellent choices on the menu and quickly served. The quality was very good. Nice friendly ambience suited to everyone. First visit to Matlock - would certainly return on a revisit.

Loved the whole thing! The food, music and whole experience was amazing!

We tend to use the Lounge group of restaurants because my wife is Coeliac and these are one of the best/safest places for her to eat Gluten Free confidently. The staff are welcoming and friendly and always ask about allergies when arriving. You can usually have your choice of where to sit and as it was a weekday when we were there the place was not too busy. We visited on the evening and I had the Lounge Cheese Burger which was enjoyable without being remarkable. My wife went for the GF Buttermilk Fried Chicken served with slaw and GF fries. She loved it and I had a taste of the chicken and was impressed with the taste. We came in on our second visit for a light lunch meal and we weren't disappointed. I went for the Harissa Chicken flatbread and I have to say, it had my taste buds tingling. Loved it! My wife had the GF Miami Brunch which she really enjoyed.

Been here a few times with my wife and we have had amazing food and service. Finally took my dad here and he was very impressed. Would recommend to anyone. All the dishes we had were great. Would recommend the tapas and the twisted club sandwich. We will be back again

Cowboy Smash Burger is literally the best burger I have had in my entire life. I don't have the words to explain the absolute awesomeness of it. I will be having one as soon as possible. Atmosphere in venue was lovely, well decorated with a chilled out vibe.

Called for drinks only and enjoyed what we had. This is a very relaxing lounge with superb staff. They are a credit to their employers. Well recommended.

Shame they didn't have decaf coffee on this occasion. Perfect for us with a dog as it's very pet friendly
