Permit Room in Brighton and Hove

Good food, great for lunch for those of us of a ‘ certain age ‘ BUT , despite requests , the loud music couldn’t be turned down. It made good conversation difficult and we had to speak our loudest which spoiled the fun of the meeting.

Incredible breakfast. I love Indian food and it’s very rare to be able to enjoy an Indian breakfast. I know they don’t eat Heinz beans for breakfast over there but we are in Britain and the masala beans are fab lol. Infact everything is really good. The chicken keema had a lovely kick, buttery pau and a runny but crispy egg - it was all spot on! Even the assam tea was banging. The service was excellent the whole time I was in there, attentive and fast, whilst being chatty, smiley and kind. Prices aren’t too steep really, though it’s definitely not a budget option. My whole bill was £20 including the service charge, definitely worth every penny in my eyes and I will be back. The decor is lovely too, very atmospheric despite being a large place. So pretty and so cool. Get me back for dinner!

Had a really great night here, food tastes great and good portions. Lamb curry is tender and packs so much flavour in there. Both of the chaats were also incredibly good. Service was attentive and quick. The low lighting was another great touch to the whole experience. Wasn’t very happy with the Coconut Caramel Dessert, tasted pretty bland. Apart from that I recommend and will come back for more.

I’ve had the pleasure of dining there a couple of times, and it’s easily one of my favorite restaurants in Brighton—possibly even my top choice. The food is absolutely exceptional, bursting with flavor and creativity. The service is outstanding, and the staff are incredibly friendly, warm, and attentive, making every visit a delightful experience. Nice food however felt like experience could be improved by someone explaining the menu and dishes don't include rice. Felt like experience waiting while being seated was a bit painful with them just looking at a computer screen for 5mins while working out where to seat us. Could have been our fault as we were a few minds late. Did think the dishoom in Edinburgh was far more special with me giving 5 stars. Felt like the service was better with the server giving us recommendations of his favourite meals and recommendations and also explaining the menu. He was also super friendly ehich made a better experience. Would recommend dishoom Edinburgh over brighton. Drinks did feel slightly small considering cost over 10 pounds. Think was lovely however seemed slightly too expensive overall

As soon as I walked into Dishoom's little brother - Permit room. I had a smile on my face. The smells were inviting, I've been to Dishoom before, everything seemed familiar and I knew I was going to eat well. The staff were extremely friendly and smiley, always asking whether we wanted water or to order food. For starters we ordered Chakli and chili cheesy garlic naan bites, for main Dishoom chicken ruby and chef's lamb curry with rice to share. Everything was sublime, the flavours, seasoning. I would like it to be really spicy but you can't have everything. If you want pleasant food in a nice atmosphere, then Dishoom's little brother is for you, the big brother Dishoom is also good. You know what, go to both 😁

Had a couple of Vegan curry options & both were delicious. This place is like a hidden gem, looks small from the outside, but is pretty big inside. Really nice atmosphere. We shared a cauliflower curry & a chickpea curry, with nan & rice & it was very reasonably priced. Highly recommended & 100% going back.

The food was great - so much of it! And special mention to the NYE dj who played the best music in town. The decor and ambience was swinging and service was very attentive and all your staff were extremely welcoming, fun and efficient.

I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience at Dishoom - The Permit Room in the Brighton branch! From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, blending a modern twist with traditional Indian charm. The food was simply extraordinary—each dish was a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. The Black Daal was rich and velvety, and the fresh naan complemented every bite beautifully. A special shoutout to Yasmin, who provided stellar service throughout my visit. She was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu. Highly recommended!

Had breakfast there this morning and despite a few issues the experience was brilliant with the staff going above and beyond. The manager in particular was extremely accommodating and I recommend the restaurant highly.

The entire staff were so helpful and knowledgeable. There was a minor issue and Ryan (manager) was able to resolve and correct the issue. 10/10, amazing.

Bacon naans are always great; tried the keema Pau today and it blew me away... So good. As ever, lovely service and vibe too

Wonderful staff, incredibly attentive and welcoming. I already had another chai on the way without needing to ask for a refill. The food is always spot on at Dishoom and this was no different. One of my favourite places to go no matter size of group or occasion. Standard go-to: Chicken pick-me-up, chilli chips, lamb samosas. However, for breakfast their naan rolls are the one - and no matter time of the day get yourself a bottomless chai. Coming in for small plates and their drinks menu is a touch, especially if you go to the terrace. Try and go in on a night where they have a guest DJ or live PA as their fusion of music really sets the vibe.

An absolutely amazing experience, the service was impeccable, I was seated straight away without a booking (I would recommend booking in advance though). I would highly recommend the Wrestlers Naan as a breakfast with a pot of the Darjeeling tea. Definitely be coming back!

Can't deal with the low lighting and difficult to read menu. Arrived there onky to be told that rhe only wines on offer were £40 or more. Poor excuse. Food was lovely though. A bit noisy, is this a restaurant or a bar selling food?

Without exaggeration, this is the best breakfast in the United Kingdom.

Had a business dinner for 8 people here in mid December We went with the set sharing menu, which they have meat, vegetarian and vegan options for. We choose meat and really enjoyed allotment food that came out. There was plenty of it and all very tasty. Good bit of spice and heat to it, so if you don't like that say so. Staff very friendly, very nice relaxed atmosphere Recommended.

Third visit to The Permit Rooms, somewhat disappointing this time unfortunately. in fairness the manager was very good with us and tried his best so i cant fault him, however on a busy Saturday in December i would not expect a restaurant to only have two of the four white wines avaialble and to also not have some options available on the menu, whoever deals with th stock ordering needs to up their game.

I recently dined at Dishoom's Permit Room for a Christmas lunch for work. While the atmosphere was enjoyable and the staff friendly, several aspects left us disappointed. Firstly, the service became slow and inattentive towards the end of our lengthy meal. We also found the initial seating arrangement restrictive, with one plate per person throughout the meal and limited napkins. The food, though mostly tasty, was overpriced and some dishes didn't complement each other well. Additionally, a side dish and naan bread were served after the main course, disrupting the flow of the meal. Furthermore, the restaurant's organisation seemed haphazard. We were initially told we couldn't mix and match the pre-booked vegan, vegetarian, or meat options, but later discovered this was possible. When one of our party's dessert wasn't available, they were given an alternative without being asked their preference. While the discount offered for the inconvenience was appreciated, these issues significantly detracted from the overall experience. Compared to our previous visit at Dishoom Kensington, this dining experience was disappointing and left us questioning whether we would return.

Had a great brunch meal here, food was really tasty and excellent value. The ambience is great and the service is fantastic - all the staff were really friendly.

First visit to the permit room, although a regular visitor to the Dishoom chain. Really pleased with choices of food. Recommend the fish cakes, chicken salad and devilled eggs. Lamb samosa weren't as tasty as the rest of the food. Service was really good. Will return

Had a wonderful experience here recently! It was my first time trying the breakfast menu, and it exceeded all expectations – truly delicious! The service was great, as always, and it was a treat to experience a Permit Room. I cannot recommend visiting enough. I kept it simple with the House Chai and Wrestler’s Naan Roll, and both were yum!

To start with we ordered spinach chips and it was amazing … prawn were excellent but spicy …. Main was paneer in gravy and lamb curry and they were excellent

unfortunately there was very loud building work in a near by property when we first arrived which wasn't very nice

My boyfriend and I visited the permit room last night and were wowed. Not only by the food, but by the interior design, atmosphere, cocktails, and service. The menu was diverse and well-executed, and we fell in love with the Mango Lassi Punch, it was fresh and sweet. Our server Teddy was spectacular, incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming; he answered all our questions before we even thought to ask. He truly gave us a memorable experience at the permit room. Give Teddy a bonus!

Amazing experience amazing food!

After hearing all the hype, we were excited to try Dishoom for dinner. We ordered samosas, prawn recheado, aloo tikki chaat, garlic naan chili cheese bites, and mattar paneer. We asked them to make the curry spicy, if possible, to which it seemed like 2 different servers had absolutely no idea how to respond to. A simple yes or no would have sufficed, but I definitely assumed it would be possible to adjust the spice level as this is supposedly an Indian resraurant (unless the food isn't made-to-order which is it's own separate problem if that's the case). Ok fine, the food can still taste good even if it isn't spicy *so I thought*. The samosas and prawn rechado were really fresh, steaming hot, and delicious. But the aloo tikki chaat was cold/room temperature and unappetizing. The garlic naan chili cheese bites was simply cut up naan instead of a new, fusion dish like I expected. Had I known that, I would have rather wanted it to come with the curry instead of as an appetizer. The mattar paneer was the worst dish of all. It was completely lacking in flavor and the rice we ordered along with it was cold/room temperature. We left the majority of the food behind and in utter disappointment.
