The best service i ever got from a pub/restaurant. Clean and friendly atmosphere Food was spectacular and delicious 😋 The best staff assistance when ordering food/drink and even with a surprise performance with a birthday cake that i supplied them, delivered to my table and sung happy birthday to my old man. I appreciate everything they done for us. It couldn't of been any better. Cheers all.

Customer service and food very good

Service was very slow. Staff seems like they didnt see you when you are waiting at the entrance. Staffs are not approachable and just talking on the side. I already finished my drink because Im waiting for a long time. I had to get it for takeaway as it was too long to be served. I will never come back here

We as a family are locals that come every few months and truly enjoy the experience here. The food is decent and plenty choices. Recommend this pub for a nice atmosphere and good vibes.

Well just disappointed because being newyears eve no atmosphere dj did not interact on at all no mixture of music as diffrent age groups there not even count down to newyear tbh didn't even realise it was newyear till few party poppers appeared

Always loved the pipe major been going at least once or twice a month with my partner or bought family but today was a real let down so dissapointed with the food even down to the kids tomatoe pasta I wouldn't feed my dog dt think I'll be bring people for a get together n a bite to eat again . How can a franchise run out of steak and burgers !! Wouldn't recommend pipe major no more.

Great carvery, Classic chicken burger had very little salad in it, fish and chips portions were very small imo, and I am not a big eater.

The food is what gives this place the 4 stars. We are a family of 9 and ordered various things from the spicy chicken sandwich to the children's pasta to the steak & ale pie. The menus you find on the table don't actually represent what you can order; the physical and online menus are different. We only found out you can order from the girls at the till when the app wouldn't work and we had to speak to them. No one welcomed or seated us as we went in so we didn't have any idea really what to do. Obviously this is a local place where the locals know what to do. There were children running around loudly and with bicycles (inside) so the atmosphere was quite poor because nothing really was being done about it.

Took 3 hours to have lunch and we were the only ones there to begin with. Food was cold had to chase for our mains serve was very slow

What should have been a lovely Boxing Day meal with my dad who has dementia and PSP was the most stressful time of eating out in my 44yrs. I honestly have never had a worse experience. Firstly, we were given the incorrect menus so there was confusion on what deals were on and what we was or wasn’t allowed to order to quote the bar staff when asking what we should be using they said “we don’t know, everyone is doing different things”. Eventually we were told we can use a Boxing Day menu that didn’t exist. By this point we had been at the till for a good 30mins trying to resolve all this. Then, my dad who cannot walk unaided needed to use the disabled bathroom. A member of staff opened the toilet and didn’t leave the key and my dad who falls very easily was locked in the toilet on his own. When he had to use the bathroom for the second time, the manager would not let us have the key and stood there arguing with us about it, in the meantime, my dad slightly soiled himself. The manager agreed to wait at the toilet with him, so he didn’t get locked in again Then to top it all off, I had the worst carvery I’ve ever had. God knows how long it was sitting there but the meat was dry and chewy and the potatoes were rock hard. I must commend the bar staff for doing their best. They was pleasant and apologetic but this was hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had when eating out. Do better

Would be nice to have some background music . But food and staff are great the only thing I would add is the gravy can be a lot better and would lift the roast to another level

The service was really slow. No-one knew what we had ordered, despite pre-ordering. The meals were not delivered together. The wrong starters and deserts were delivered. Dessert took over 40 minutes to arrive and had clearly been sitting around when it finally arrived. After 30 minutes, we asked if our desserts had been forgotten and to the person who said they would check never came back.

Went there for Christmas dinner yesterday evening with a group of 9, table was prebooked from the 29th Nov. Upon arriving the table was not ready as we were told the people who sat there haven't finished. Ironically, when booking it said 2 hours slot. We waited over half and hour for them to sort something out. They were scared to tell those people that the table was prebooked from 6:30pm. Common sense would to put a "Reserve" sign or tell the group that the table has been booked from 6:30 onwards. The female staff with piercing was well rude, moody, arrogant, didn't have any courtesy to apologise or smile and giving lots of dirty looks. So were the other staff. Their appearance looked dirty considering it's a Christmas season on a Saturday. It wasn't even busy, (after reading some of these reviews, no wonder why..)Table where we sat was still awkward with a round table joined with a rectangular one. The female staff placed a bunch of knives and forks, on top of napkins without folding them(although she did it for the others as we were observing them), it was quite awkward to take the cutleries one by one, like we were inferior to them. Food were cold, vegetables were soggy and wet looked like they were leftovers from before and not fresh. Potatoes, parsnips looked like they've been under the heated lamp for hours. Gammon was dry so was the beef, looked like they've been under the heated lamp for far too long. Pricewise, charged us like central London prices but no way near their level. There was a foul smell coming from the kitchen each time they opened the door. The nachos smelt off and disgusting. Spoke to the manager at the end and he seemed surprised when I mentioned about the nachos and the attitude of his staff. We have been to this pub many times before and skipped for the past 2 years, but what a massive let down in service, staff, food and atmosphere. Spent nearly £200, not worth it at all. NEVER COMING BACK AGAIN! And you wonder why pubs are closing down because when people when do make the effort to support these businesses, this is how they treat you.

Food & service excellent, shame about the high drinks prices but will go back

Went with a pre booked group of 20. The veg from the carvery was cold, no beef or gammon left only turkey ! Surely as we pre booked they could have thought ahead? People who had the carvery had finished before other mains arrived . Very disappointed will not be back

Very nice meal could have been hotter

Food was tasty when we got it- I'm glad I didn't opt for the carvery as it looked quite dry, but those that did have carvery said it was ok... unfortunately it was far too busy for the amount of staff that was on duty (there were a number of big parties in at the time)..they were however doing their best

Was on a work trip and need somewhere local to eat, and the Pipe Major was mentioned. And I have to confess we ended up coming back two days in a row. Very inviting, we waiting to be seated and had a choice of where we wanted to sit. On the first night there were 4 of us, so we found a nice cosy booth, that could seat about 6 and the second night, just 3 of us. When you get to your table, you have the option to go to the bar and place the order or, scan the QR code on the table and do it all online. It seems very family friendly... The staff are very friendly our server was called Stacey , and sadly, I forgot the name of pub land lady, she was wonderful and recommended a lovely drink that I should try. They have a good selection on their menu and also a Carvery that was fully stocked. I would highly recommend coming here, and if i am working back in the area, I would definitely come back here for a bite.

Very friendly we go there for Sunday lunch every week. Staff will always bend over backwards to ensure you receive a high quality of service

I'm not a frequent visitor maybe 6 or 7 visits a year in a group of 4. Two of us are coeliac (gluten free). We have always had great experiences here. Today however, we began with long delays on food approx 1hr 20 mins. Secondly, the table wasn't cleaned and the coeliac people said the tables are always cleaned and the cutlery wrapped but neither was done. The meals arrived, one missing onion rings one with cold (not look warm) cold fries and the bacon on the hunters chicken was black. The fries were replaced with luke warm fries. The fries on my mother's plate that had been on the table 10 mins were far hotter than the replacement fries. All in all, the staff were great but the food on this one occasion was far below your normal standard. A disappointing visit for us all.

The steak night meal deal was fabulous. The steak was cooked perfectly. Well done chef.

So went there last week ordered just a fish finger roll and chips well fish fingers were cold and over cooked and also chips sent it back and when it came back it was still cold wouldn’t mind if it was busy but had about 10 customers so got a refund absolutely disgusting think the chef needs either re training or get a better chef you can’t expect customers to eat that slop you dish out to be quite honest don’t think I will be going back only a couple of months ago went in for the carvery well that was left to dry out and the peas you could use as bullets pipe major management sort it out

What a pleasant surprise. I took my elderly mum for a meal and we had a great time. The pub was spotlessly clean,the food was cooked perfectly......and the staff were fantastic,friendly and very courteous. I genuinely can not wait to go back.

I used to go here quite regularly the place has gone downhill the turkey meat was fatty chewy complained to the manager sge went to change the meat had same again by the time the turkey got changed my other veggies was cold the cauliflower cheese was hard the peas were rock hard only mash potato was nice but cold was refunded my money back the table was sticky dirty so will not be going back there

The staff were very pleasant and engaging. I tried the carvery and the turkey tasted like cardboard, the roast beef needed seasoning, the gammon was excellent, the potatoes and parsnips tasted like they had been under the heat lamp for hours, and finally the pork stuffing was also excellent. The tables were sticky all over. Overall a so-so experience.

Have eaten carvery with friends many times, but recently the food has deteriorated badly and today 31 October 2024,was the final straw, vegetables not very varied and cooked to destruction,parsnips totally inedible and potatoes with totally no substance, meat on the other hand gammon and turkey nicely cooked,beef however was nice and red,but still incredibly tough.so today with poor quality food, surly staff and very unhelpful, you have lost 6 customers never to return.

Been coming here for along time and it's normally nice but today it was pretty bab there was no meat ready hardly any peas and hardly any potatoes and there was only 1 person behind the bar and when we had finished our plates were not collected for a very long time but the staff were still very friendly

Good tasty food & good drinks choices. The Carvery Chef & Girl behind the bar were both very good at their jobs with good customer service skills ( a rarity today!) Overall a very pleasant lunchtime experience for my husband and I & we intend booking again soon.

This establishment is nice for informal, family orientated meal. Fairly good children's menu available. The usual kinda adult menu available. The place was kept well and the staff were friendly and willing to help at all times. Drinking without food is possible if you sit outside, there's also a small play area outside for kids which kept our 'nightmare' busy enough for our headaches to fade away!

Would be given no stars if it was possible. Worst pub for the Dagenham area. Visited for the first time today and nothing positive about my experience. They are extremely expensive, Three times that of a standard pub venue. West end London prices for basic and tasteless food. Also the portion size is that for a child. Food was dry and cold, staff giving dirty looks and seamed frightened to approach my table with the food. Won't recommend and return. It should be shut down.

I have only eaten here twice and had the ultimate spicy beef burger both times and each time was 10 out of 10 for the food. I can therefore say with confidence that The Pipe Major, Dagenham East, is the best restaurant in the world.

I sent back my sausages and mash because the mash was cold. My guests waited for my food to come back before they started. My mash was no warmer the second time. The sausages were hotter, so was the gravy, but the mash the same. I couldn't allow my guests to wait longer and quite frankly, if they couldn't get it right on the second try, why bother. I told the server after and she said they got it from the carvery and put it in the microwave for a minute. They obviously did not. They should have used a probe to ensure it was hot before they served me the second time. That also means the mash on the carvery must have been cold. I was disappointed and embarrassed for my guests having to wait with their hot dinners, which also cooled down while waiting. Used to use you a lot. Will not go back.

Food was lovely except for the roast potatoes as they were reheated hard and not light and fluffy like they usually are and the Yorkshire puddings was soggy

Visited here for my first time and will not return. I ordered 3 main carvery and iv never been so disappointed. myself and 2 children waited 45 mins for them to refresh the food but still the carvery was not edible the meat was so hard couldn't bite it or cut it and so dry we covered it in gravy to swallow but still made no difference. The roast potatoes you could have killed someone with if you threw it at them. The mash was hard and dry and vegetables were not great either. We ordered dessert because we were so hungry. Very bad carvery don't waste ur money

Service was a bit slow despite it being fairly quiet

We were greeted on arrival and told someone would seat us shortly. Once seated we were advised there may be a wait for food as it was a busy day but we didn't wait too long. The food was excellent, although a few menu items were unavailable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The Ultimate Veggie Burger at Pipe Major was amazing—packed with flavor and topped with fresh ingredients. The crispy onion rings were the perfect side. Kudos to server, Abhi, for the friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend!😆

Booked a table for 1.30 on a Sunday. Welcomed at the door and shown to our table. We were told how to order by a very pleasant young man.At the bar our order of food and drink was taken efficiently by a young woman. Our overall experience was very good. We do like to come here because the atmosphere and staff are very friendly.

Great service,for a table of 12 on a busy summer's day

me my mum and sister came for a drink we couldn't sit outside because there wasn't enough umbrellas outside also most of the tables inside are reserved and if you just want to have a drink inside you have to practically beg for a seat also to many kids for my liking also the men's toilets didn't have any hand soap in the dispensers the hand dryers should be automatic

Soo as we entered we were greeted with a warm welcome the staff always make you feel like a valued customer and the food was superb served in quick time and cooked to perfection, one small criticism wish there was more chips iina single portion.

Be carefull what beer you drink at this bar or order at the actuall bar not over the phone. I have bough one samuigel one peroni beer at the bar, all was okay taste normal. Ordered one more samuigel and heineken over the phone samuigel taste exactly the same as heineken, have received both the same beers. I have a feeling its mixed with lemonade , Ordered one more samuigel at the bar tasted like normal beer. Tried talking to the manager she is sure what she poured was normal beer what we ordered . Didnt care what we had to say i asked her to smell the samuigel why is the smell even different ,she said i dont know . You can even see different colours of beer..No appologies nothing.. disappointed ..aint coming back for sure

Food orders taking longer to arrive to table these days and you have to constantly chase, varied waiting times as long as 50 mins and the staff never apologise they just say "yeah I know we've only got one chef doing everything", that's not my problem. They could easily advise that there is a long wait for food. Then we get the 30% voucher of the mains, they never remind you about it when you order and let you pay full price and when you say I've got the 30% off they get aggy and say "They want us to make money here but keep on with these discounts" they want to see the voucher on everyone's phone and get annoyed when we email it to each other on the spot, one even assumed it was a photo of the voucher. They need to be careful they don't get mystery shopped.

Always enjoy atmosphere and food. staff are very friendly, nice interior comfortable seating, lovely outside area as well. Umbrellas provided at tables during hot sunny weather.

Gone down hill massively. Food was dry cold and our party of 35 all woke up the nx day with Stomach ache. The carvery had been sat there all day under the heater. I asked for new meat. Was told no as he had to use what was there. Wont be going back unfortunately. Alcohol prices are ridiculous its dagenham not london. Almost £9 for glass of wine. 😢

It's OK. Definitely not as good or as nice as it used to be. All staff members of staff have the "I don't want to be here" vibe about them. I only really eat here if other people have invited or it is the last resort due to not great experiences in the past
