Fantastic selection of beers - Great Quiz’s with a strong variety from Films to Music to seasonal events. Lucky Ted’s which is next door offers fantastic freshly made pizza’s. I will 100% be attending more events at this venue in the future.

Bit of an odd one this, as their website made no mention that there was a ticket only event that evening, and neither did ONE of their Instagram accounts! Obviously, I didn't do enough research. Which is a shame really, as I'd been waiting for such a long time to check this place out. Still, the couple of halves I managed to squeeze in before they chucked me out were a lot of fun and the staff were super friendly. Till the next time!

First visit and unfortunately arrived on a quiz night. Only stayed for a couple as we didn't find the atmosphere very welcoming, possibly because everyone was setting up for a packed out quiz night. Beers were very nice some complain of the prices but I thought they were fair for unusual and specialist craft beers. I wasn't a big fan of the layout and decor. It was very dark and dingy and felt a bit cramped. Overall it was a disappointing experience when I was excited and looking forward to going for the first time. Next time I'll try to make sure I don't arrive when a quiz in on.

Great atmosphere, food and drink. Quiz nights are my fave. Plus you get to watch some top quality darts if you go on the right nights 😂

Aaron loves a 1 star review Great host for the quiz. Mans carnage in human body. Themes are varied and covers all knowledge. Great night. Come with friends you trust, cos you will all hate each other at the end of the night and some won't recover from that. Regular visitor and never disappointed

One of the best venues in Middlesbrough! PlayBrew have something for everyone, with quiz nights every week and music bingo on the regular. If you’re looking for something new to do in Middlesbrough, I can’t recommend PlayBrew enough.

Overall I liked the place, decent selection of drinks, nice and prompt staff(in general) but I cannot say I was at all impressed with the staff member running the quiz. He was drunk before the quiz even started, insulted patrons if they had answers different to his even if they were correct and didn't even have most of the questions prepared so had to make it up as he went along. If you are paying beforehand for a quiz you expect at least some preparation. Please replace the person doing the quizzes with someone competent if you are charging them so much.

Smashing pints, friendly staff and entertaining and well put together quizzes. Always a wide variety of events to fit everyone’s tastes with a quality atmosphere. Pizza is banging from Lucky Teds as well

Great selection of beers and a really fun night

Really great venue for a quiet drink or a brilliant event/quiz night. Lots of great drink options. Have been multiple times and love it here. Also have Lucky Teds pizza on site which is huge and tasty!

This is the 3rd time I’ve been to Play Brew’s taproom and it’s a shame the experience has been marred. Normally it’s quiet but there was a quiz on and the place was packed. Not that I was bothered as we stood outside and enjoyed a beer, it was a warm night anyway. Weirdly, barely anyone was going up to the bar while we were there despite the tables being packed, it was clear people were only there for the quiz. Maybe this explains why the staff were miserable as there was never a queue so they might have been bored. After the quiz finished literally everyone left apart from us, we sat on a table and bought another drink. We were planning to stay til their stated closing time (which was 12am) but the staff just kept giving off bad signals like looking over, staring at their phones (which they did most of the night), giving off awful body language, and finally packing the tables up around us very loud and dragging the benches right next to us across the floor then flipping them over, leaving us on a single table in the middle of the room, marooned awkwardly lol. This was just after 11pm so we’d have been happy to stay and get a couple more rounds in. However the staff really couldn’t imply that we weren't welcome to stay any stronger without saying it. We had come from Newcastle just for here really and paid for a hotel for the 3rd time. Really disappointed to be honest because I do love their beers and tend to drink them in other micropubs and I do like the taproom as well. I think we probably spent more in an hour and a half than most tables spent all night as you never seen anyone ordering drinks even during the interval, I’d been to the bar 4 times and ordered 2 drinks each time. You’d just think they’d have more appreciation for people actually coming purely for the beer and not the quiz as they are the ones who tend to become regulars. If you’re going to pack stuff away loudly around customers you should probably tell them you’re closing or that it’s last orders, odd. It’s just basic hospitality skills really. You’d expect this from staff at some chain pub like spoons or Greene king where they don’t care about the job but you expect a bit more from an independent brewery trying to promote themselves, you’d assume they’d have more reason to come across well and promote their brand. Evidently not.

It's a brewery serving beer on a retail area , beer is very good and immediately outside is a pizza place doing great pizza which you can eat at Playbrew tables , businesses are compatible. Good mix but probably better atmosphere when some entertainment on

Had a Sticky Lolly and it was awful. I'm from Boro so thought I'd support but it was shocking. Far too sweet for a pale with a very weird aftertaste. This stuff should of never left the brewery, experiment gone wrong. Do better

Really nice venue nestled away off the beaten track. Excellent choice of beers and really nice staff. A credit to the craft beer community

After checking opening times on their website we travelled 12 miles to visit with grandparents, daughter, partner and dog. Firmly closed at 6:30pm on Sat and their phone was not answered. Very annoying. Suspect they have closed for good.

A great Venue hosting a wide variety of events. Some great quizzes, all day festivals, and guest food spots. Fine selection of beers too!

We've been to many a quiz night and a couple of music bingo events at Play Brew and always have such a great night! Lovely selection of drinks and lively atmosphere. Also quite often spot cute dogs. 10/10 👏🏼

Fantastic taproom with an amazing array of weird and wonderful beers. Particularly recommend the Sticky Lolly and Marshmallow & Peanut Ice Cream Stout (it sounds weird, but trust me, it’s lush!). Unusual location but huge open air car park just next door or on the next road over. Particularly love the quizzes, always a good laugh and well organised

Draught beer was shocking . Stuck to tinned beer then they ran out of that so stopped drinking . Place was cold and uninviting.

A very spacious, welcoming and well-stocked taproom with 11 fresh beers on draft and a large range of cans in the fridge. Play Brew Co has a reputation for unique brews with an emphasis on the sweeter and sourer side. I'd been enjoying their beers ever since lockdown, so it's been class to come back to Boro to taste fresh ones straight from the source.

Very chilled place with fun quiz night. Enjoyed it :)

Play Brew is my life. I want to live here. Santa has my address down as here. Baby Blue is top of my list. In all seriousness an amazing place which has given me some great times. The staff are amazing and the range of drinks is phenomenal. Plus there are no divs there ever which is rare for Middlesbrough.

Cracking place with cracking beer

Open space, some really good beers and some interesting novelty flavoured beers (one tasted like drumsticks, another like cola cubes etc). Love that you can see the stills, really makes you understand that this is local beer 😊💜 Really chill people there and decent music too!

What a treat having this amazing brewery so close to home. A brilliant selection of beers, expertly made and sure to cater to everyone. Just can't wait to be able to sit in there now!

When I was there it was warm and clean, the beer was keg or canned beers but lacked atmosphere

Helpful, knowledgeable, Covid-friendly take-out beers. Great prices on mix and match multi-buy. Will definitely be going back.
