Plume of Feathers in East Hertfordshire

This has become our new regular weekly as our local Green King became a Chef & Brewer and we did not like the new menu there. Really pleased we found this one. Staff are friendly and always remember our order now. Food is good and well priced. They have a gorgeous beer garden too. Perfect for kids and dog friendly. Don’t hesitate to visit!

It’s fair to say that the first time I came here I really enjoyed my night however on our return found the whole experience very disappointing. Food portions sizes were ridiculously small, a portion of peas were 12 peas, I counted them out of disbelief! It was very quiet in the pub and restaurant ( max of 20 people throughout) but yet we waited 55 minutes for our mains to come out and then had to go and ask if we could order deserts. The female manager was quite rude and abrupt at times. The only saving grace were the young lads who served us who were super polite and helpful and the only reason for the three stars.

Went to the Plume on New Years Eve after several years abstinence due to a general turndown in quality and service. We were so glad we reversed our decision. The service, food and atmosphere was back to years ago when people flocked there. Now we know how good it is we will booking regularly again.

I love coming to this pub! The food is lovely and the staff are so welcoming and friendly and more than happy to help! I have been here a few times with my partner and t we’ve always left very satisfied, had a festive meal here and was lovely good value for money and the portion size was great, beef was lovely. My 3 friends very much enjoyed their meals and the service was very good. However, there was nothing enjoyable or notable about my festive choice. Starter about 4 prawns on lettuce leaves with some mayo. The mushroom bourginon dry pastry heavy and not a particularly enjoyable taste with average vegetables. The cheesecake was bland. Just in reply to your response, I have been twice in the past over last couple years for roast dinner and it was very average. This is not a good foody pub - just heated up food. A reminder why I prefer my own food. To be honest two mushroom pasties from Lidls were much tastier.

Beautiful pub, lovely service and a relaxed environment. Couldn't ask for more in a village bar. The new management are equally as friendly as the last and made me feel as welcome as I ever had as a local

Family meet up. Food was perfect, cooked well and tasted amazing. Portion size great however experience let down by the staffs attitudes. A shame.

We had the Festive Fayre meal for 9 and the staff they were very accommodating in dealing with several last-minute changes due to 3 people dropping out and 2 new people coming, plus some late menu selection changes. The food was excellent, with good sized portions and well presented. The barman was also very helpful and cheerful. Highly recommended.

Not the best food for the cost very slow coming out for a set menu, when it did arrive it was cold we got board waiting to pay so went up to the bar so we could leave. Would not go back or recommend

Nice looking pub and menu but.... We arrived about 7 pm and there was no light in the car park. I actually thought an axe murder was going to jump out any minute. I braved the walk to the door using my phone's torch, and I thought that the pub looked lovely. We were greated by two very smilie servers that also took our order. Things went wrong from there. I ordered the grilled salmon with a side of vegetables but was presented with fishcakes on a bed of rocket. When I said that this is not what I ordered, the plate was slammed in front of me, and I was told that this what they had. I smiled and said that this was not what I wanted, but I was told that this is the only salmon they had. I said that this might be the case but I did not want it. I was begrudgingly allowed to order something else but by the time my dinner came, my friend had already finished hers. No apology or compensation given. Will not be returning

Disappointing roast at the Plume of feathers today I think a 3 is generous. Received one and a half slices of overcooked beef, raw parsnips, the potatoes barley saw the oven and broccoli wasn't cooked either. The whole plate was luke warm at best and the gravy was far from plentiful. The one positive was the cauliflower cheese. We were not table checked however there only seemed to be one member of staff who didn't stop. We went elsewhere for dessert and wouldn't return.

Came here for a family meal 12 of us in total 2 of which are celiac and we're pleasantly surprised by the choices available and that the lady serving us knew the severity of the disease and looked after them. We will all be returning for our christmas family get together.

Me and my partner were just having a walk around tewin and come across this lovely pub! We started to get hungry and needed a bite! We come in and was welcome by a very lovely lady and she sat us at a table and help us with the order.

Came in for something to eat after watching some firework's, was greeted by a very friendly lady who introduced herself to us Stacey, who explained there was a band practicing tonight so could get a bit loud, we really enjoyed listening to them play some old classics! Food was lovely and the young lad who served us was very polite. Will definitely be returning soon!

Having recently moved to the area, we decided to try this local pub for lunch. Nice pub lunch, although slightly long wait for drinks. Nice food and pleasant atmosphere. Will definitely return.

Cutlery was dirty, Staff weren’t all that friendly and the food left a lot to be desired. Meat in the lasagne was vile and with a tiny 2 layers overall I was left hungry. Side portion of chips were cold, small and bottom of the barrel. After looking forward to a nice pub dinner we were deeply disappointed

Wow what a difference! We had almost given up with this pub as the service was dire. Under new management now and you can certainly tell. We were really looked after (my elderly mother and myself). New menu too which was lovely. Food has always been nice and the location is handy for us plus it's disabled/wheelchair friendly. Definitely deserves five stars now 😊

***response to the reply… not sure what else I can say, perhaps better organisation so things don’t get forgotten?*** They let me keep a homemade cake behind the counter whilst we did a dog walk. Friendly and happy to help. However the service wasn’t great - they forgot one meal and we had to ask for some of the accompaniments that were listed on the menu as part of the meal as they were forgotten for 3 out of 4 meals. The atmosphere and the surroundings were nice. Dog friendly.

Great beer garden. Decent selection of beers. Only had roast dinner there (on previous occasion) and it was nice

We had my sons 2nd Birthday and Moms 75 om Saturday. The Pub and Team bent over backwards for us. Superb food, Outstanding Service, guests all rated and commented positively. WOW what a great experience. WE WILL GO BACK

Me and the better half came for a meal tonight and were extremely impressed with everything, the food was great (Nachos sharer highly recommend) and the atmosphere was chilled and relaxing like you would want in a village pub. Staff were very helpful. All in all I would recommend the pub to anyone reading this review 👍🏻 and get the nachos sharer 🤣

We had a lovely meal last night. The new menu is great. The mixed grill was huge. The lamb shank was cooked to perfection, falling off the bone. The kids also enjoyed their food. All staff are friendly and inviting, nothing was too much trouble. Can't wait for our next visit!

Enjoyable meal, food well prepared and presented. Staff attentive and welcoming. However, I chose the venue for a family dinner based on the menu shown on their website only to find that 40% of the meals had been taken off.

Never been here before, but me and a couple of friends went. It was pretty busy but the bar man (Ted?) managed to serve everyone quickly, and have good conversations with customers at the same time.

Fantastic pints. Lovely staff. New dart board with adds to the atmosphere. They are soon changing the menu which will revolutionise the pub!!

Had a great lunch with my family Wednesday! Joe and Jed were absolute stars today you couldn’t find better service anywhere!!!

Spectacular today from Joe he really brought a new level to service! The atmosphere was outstanding and the food was great coupled with a deal of £2 a fosters which goes without saying.

Typically only pop in for a few pints. Green King is usually pretty well kept. Monday half price happy hour....

Absolutely shambles. Not a lot on the menu. Booked for 16:30 and didn’t get food until 18:45. Barely any food left on the menu. No roast dinner available. It has gone down hill over the last past 4 years. Birthday meal ruined Won’t be returning until it’s back to its former glory days.

This pub was nice. I came here with my dad and we got some pretty good food. The service was also impeccable. The guy behind the bar was very efficient (Jed). I will certainly be back.

Oh dear oh dear such a shame of how this use to be.small servings,dead plants,shabby furniture outside,above average prices,misty glasses etc.lots of staff and toilets naff. Affluent area needs it back of old! Won't drive there again for a long time and told friends.

We were recommend this place to come and eat. Sadly, we waited over 45 minutes for our food and watched other people come in after us, and get served their food before us. One couple had finished their food before we got ours. The burger that we received was dry and the cheese and bacon on it were cooked beyond unreasonable. It looked like it had been left under a hot light, way too long. The place wasn't even busy, with only 4 tables with customers on. The staff spent most of the time, that we were there in the kitchen and not in the restaurant and not speaking(unless customers had to shout for help)to customers not until we were ready to go.

We came here for a meal for my son’s 16th Birthday (his choice), 8 of us in total. We were sat in an area away from everyone, it was really nice as we didn’t have to raise voices to be heard when chatting to each other!!! The drinks order was taken and within 5 minutes had returned with them where they took the order from our starters and main meals. Starters came out quickly and were lovely, everyone cleared their plates. The main dinners came out almost straight away too, my partner and myself had steak, have to say it’s one of the best steaks that I’ve had in years, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. Everyone loved their meals even my daughter she said it was the best Hunters Chicken she had ever had out too! We had puddings and coffee to finish. All in all it was a lovely meal, from the quickness of taking the drinks order and the meal orders to them being place on the table. Nothing was too much trouble especially when we asked for some extra sauces. So thank you The Plume of Feathers, we are looking forward to coming back very soon xx

Lovely beer garden and friendly staff.

Food was nicely presented. Went with the 3 courses for £30 menu - bit limited. Ham hock was a little too salty.

Popped into my local with friends on day of Tewin car show...expected it to be busy and long wait,however pleasantly surprised as bar well serviced and most importantly acknowledged by bar staff on arrival ..the wait was negligible. Thankyou Jed exceptional service to your locals

Nice pub atmosphere, great choice of food and drink. Service was brilliant.

We had a great Sunday roast. It was a very busy and warm Sunday, the staff advised the food wait is 45min, I don't think it was that long, but if it was we sure enjoyed the drinks and the view to not feel the long wait. The playground is great for young kids. We sure enjoyed everything and the location and views on sunny days are just amazing.

Waited 40min for food which was very poorly presented, ordered hunters chicken with chips, onion rings & a salad dressing. Also ordered Mac 'n' Cheese Served with a fresh, lightly dressed salad. Food looked very bland,Salad was practically non existent with moldy tomato. Won't be going back there.

The company we were with was great we went to sit at a table it had split beer over it asked if it could be wiped down as we sat there but that never happens which with COVID still around it should have been requested this twice nothing happened also in the restaurant while eating a big black dog was wandering round the table not very good

I just had a hunter chicken and a whole chicken is way to chewy and I can't eat it

Thought we'd try this pub again after not having been for quite a while. The service and food was a bit hit and miss. The staff weren't very attentive. Looks like I won't be back for quite a while again.

Had a lovely lunch here today,booked in advance. Mixed group of us in terms of diet, including meat eater, vegans and vegetarians. Good range of options for us all, clearly labelled on the menu, all tasted delicious,all plates cleared! Service was great, staff friendly and helpful. Garden is large and beautiful with lovely views over surrounding countryside, nice little play area for the kids, loads of tables outside or inside, high chair provided. Cosy interiors, good amount of parking. Well worth a visit and we'll definitely be going back!

Absolutely delightful. The chicken burger was top notch none of this fake chicken stuff. Tender, crunchy and very tasty. The garden views are fantastic and so are the staff. Friendly and prompt with service. Would highly recommend. Ellie, Mark and Amy were pleasant and a real joy with attending to our table.

Is there a food shortage? We came here as a group of six. First of all, one of our group ordered the burger & chips that comes with onion rings…However, it came out without any onion rings. We told the lady who replied ‘I’ll go and check’ they bought out only two single onion rings shortly after… They didn’t seem certain if the onion rings come with the menu/dish. The mock-tail drinks were lovely, along with the strawberry lemonade this was very tasty, these drinks were reasonably priced. Our group noticed that most of the food portions/dishes were very limited, apart from my fish and chips my portion size was okay. My 85 year old nan who has a very small appetite, was shocked with the lack of portion size’s for the asking price. She said ‘is the chef on hunger strike’! The staff here were friendly, they were fairly quick to take our order and deliver food. Additional touches to their service would be nice, such as: ‘do you need any sauces or anything else etc’ when serving the food would be good. The brownie ice cream Sunday was very nice and the portion size was good for this desert! However, the smaller desert the ‘eaten mess’ with a drink was mostly cream.. comparing this desert to other pubs.. I’m not sure you could even call it a desert at all… one mouthful and it’s gone. Overall, it wasn’t great for the prices charged. I’m not certain if there are supply shortages, but up the portion sizes for the price you ask from the customer would be a start.

Meal this evening, food was delicious so thankyou so much to the chefs. The place is lovely, I love the character of the building and the seperate sections, however sadly the manners of staff at the bar let our trip down. We tried to put this behind us, we did and enjoyed our food but I thought it best to be truthful, the new manager (guy with dark hair and glasses) seemed great, so well done to you.

Met a friend for some drinks and a few snacking type bits. I was really gutted if I’m completely honest. The service was slow and staff seemed to have attitude when dealing with things not going to plan. Apparently under new management so was hoping to see positive change. The pub itself if amazing but….clearly needs some work on staff

As usual,lovely food and ambiance. Unfortunately,after receiving our drinks and main meal we were just ignored. Decided to wait and see what happened next.After 25mins of observing,tables being cleared and made ready, we paid and left.Plenty of staff near the bar,mainly chatting.Yes, we could have said something,but,shouldn’t need to. Very disappointed.MB

Came with a pre-booked of over 20 guys. Not a small.challenge! We mostly pre-ordered but there were inevitably some last minute changes. Everything was dealt with well and everyone got the meal they ordered! I myself had the salmon florentine which was a lovely meal, fresh, well- cooked and tasty. But the best thing of all was really good communication, which made a potentially complicated job run smoothly. Special mention and thanks to Chloe, our waitress, who kept us informed throughout and served us with a caring and friendly manner. Highly recommended!

The plume of Feathers is Tewin, not Welwyn. It is in a lovely area. The garden is especially lovely and brilliant for kids. I have a 3 year old and he loved it. The food was brilliant, came out quick and was hot. Will definitely be returning.

This is a review of The plume of Feathers in Tewin, not Welwyn. Beautiful old pub with low beams, wooden floors and welcoming atmosphere. Table service was top but bar service pleasant but slightly slow. Wine was very good, and food was good pub food. Great to watch dogs and kiddies running around happily in large beer garden. Well worth a repeat visit.

Had my mum’s Wake here. All the buffet food supplied was fantastic, lots of choice and allergies catered for brilliantly. All my family complimented the food and choice.

From arrival we felt very welcomed. we were assisted by chloe during our meal and she was very helpful and accommodating to our needs. She explained everything we needed to know and is a real credit to the plume of feathers. The meals were outstanding (compliments to the chef on the day) We couldn't fault our visit, and will definitely be returning.

Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Good selection of beers. I didn't eat but lots of people were there eating and seemed to enjoy it. Great outdoor space for kids.

The bar man with the black hair was very polite as he greeted us when we arrived as well as this he helped us though out the evening and to make sure everything was ok.
