The Prince of Wales is undergoing a long-term restoration and many local people are looking forward to it reopening later in 2017. I understand that it is being managed by a group that also runs the Wheel at Burwash Weald and the Blacksmiths at Ninfield. We have high hopes.

The Prince of Wales is now shut and occupied by squatters. A real shame. It means that Heathfield (population 11,300) has no pub at all. The nearest are the Runt in Tun and the Cross in Hand, both about 1 mile out of town to the south and west respectively, and the Star at Old Heathfield.

This place used to be a real dive but since the new landlord and landlady have arrived, it has a lovely atmosphere. They seem to have got rid of all the trouble makers and it's Now somewhere you can have a glass of wine with friends or a coffee and milkshake with the kids. A great friendly pub with loads of potential.

Went in for Lunch, but was told that they have now decided not to offer food anymore for the time being. Was doing food a short while ago. So, no food no drink, no trade. Give this place a miss, they do not want customer's!!!!!!!

Had lunch here with two friends. We had booked a table (Saturday lunchtime) but no need as the place was almost empty. We were not greeted by anyone when we arrived. Eventually a member of staff emerged from the bar and told us we could sit anywhere. We found a table and were chatting for some time before realising that nobody had come to take our order. Eventually we went to the bar where we were told we had to order at the bar. We explained we had never been here before so was not aware of that but we received no apology. Nowhere was there any indication that this was the procedure and there was no number on our table to alert us to the fact that we may have to order at the bar. We all ordered the carvery. Big mistake. The meat was lukewarm. Small selection of vegetables and not enough serving spoons. Peas were floating in water but no slotted spoon to drain them. The roast potatoes were so touch we couldn't even cut them, let alone eat them. They seemed to have been left over from a previous day and reheated. The vegetables were dried up and lukewarm. Nobody bothered to come to our table to see if everything was alright. The place was very cold as there was no heating on. Very unfriendly atmosphere. Will never go there again!

4 of us plus a dog for a Sunday lunch between Christmas and new year . Got a lovely welcome from the staff showed to our table and drinks ordered. The food came quickly and was delicious. The staff checked on us to ensure we had everything or if we needed anything further. All in all it was a lovely meal with good service what more could you ask for. I would definitely recommend.

Tried the Hay Waggon, which is under new ownership. Great barbecue with seafood kebabs and amazing local rump steak. Homemade ice creams are to die for. All served up in a wonderful garden

I had the absolute pleasure of being served by Lottie during my visit to The Swan, and I must say, she was an absolute gem. From the moment Margot (my dog) and I arrived, Lottie’s warm and welcoming demeanour instantly made us feel right at home. Her attentiveness and genuine care for our experience were evident throughout our visit. She went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, accommodating our requests with a cheerful smile and impeccable professionalism. It’s rare to come across someone so naturally gifted in making people (and dogs!) feel valued and comfortable. Lottie is an absolute asset to the pub, and Margot and I will definitely be back. Thank you, Lottie, for making our visit so memorable. Edit: I also have to mention how lovely the rooms are at The Swan. They’re cosy, beautifully decorated, and the perfect retreat after a long day. Such a wonderful stay all around!
