I’ve been quite a few times here so can give my fair review. The food is nice and I do enjoy the breakfast. However I always find the staff so miserable. They don’t smile and you feel like an inconvenience just being there. I don’t even get a smile when I walk in. Think I’m done with this place.

Went christmas day. Food was lovely. Service a let down. Brought to table. Had to then prompt a waitress for drinks. Then a drinks menu. Then asking for coffee and tea and mince pies we had already paid for. Waitress at end keyed in wrong amount to not include £440 we had already paid prior. Good job we picked up on this!

I’ve been to this pub so many times as family live very close by. Over the years it has become a bit of an iconic pub in the area and used to live up to the hype. However, this time it was really lacking. Men’s toilets were revolting, the set menu was limited and was obviously Xmas day leftovers, the service was quite underwhelming and we were seated in what was basically a lean-to extension. This pub needs to up their game if they want their reputation back.

I am not usually the type to write a review but have to on this special occasion. Came with a group of 5 for Christmas day meal, superb from the welcome to the finish. Guy on reception with the blonde hair, think he was the manager was running the show, very pleasant and smiley even with a queue of people waiting for there tables. Overhead some moaning people near us, he dealt with in a nice manner. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, again dealt with the stress on a busy day like this in a pleasant manner, so kudos to all. Had a great time and the staff made it perfect. thank you for making our Christmas special and hope all staff got to spend some time with their families after. Philip

I’ve been here lots of times for lunch with my partner but won’t be returning. My partner ordered fish from the specials menu. As it turned out, nobody had cleaned the fish (served whole) or removed the entrails. As it was cut, you can imagine what spilled onto the plate. I called a server over and pointed this out. She offered a replacement meal, but given the severity of the issue I was disappointed that nobody more senior came over to apologise. There was no update to how long it would be. And of course we were charged at the full price.

Disappointing. Booked a table well in advance for 10.15am brunch with 5 friends. Unwelcoming staff on arrival told us to wait as they were busy and seemed to ignore/forget us. Finally seated and told we had 2 minutes to order before the kitchen closed and that the 'chefs head was coming off'! After complaining, we were given special allowance (!) to order despite the kitchen closing at 10.30am. Had to get up and find someone to request the bill, then had to get up and find someone to pay the bill! Not sure why they take bookings at 10.15am when they can't fit good customer service and orders in in that time. No apology from management and had to pay full bill. Good food but disappointing service. Won't return.

Dinner at the suggestion of friends living locally. Cutting into the Normandy Chicken to find it translucent & bloody at bone is really not acceptable neither is it to be told "it's cooked for an hour at 75°" apologies we're made & a different meal produced. Big family dinner and they couldn't cope. They forgot to put through an order... so the person had to pick something easy to ensure they ate with us. We constantly had to chase our food, the staff just didn't seem interested. The roast took forever to come out it was a let down. The roast potatoes were hard and chewy. The veg was over done and no accommodation for allergies. I'm sure normal meals are very good, but big groups and roasts isn't their speciality. Shame because the coffee was lovely the drinks were great and the kids dinners were spot on.

Visited for my mom's special 70th birthday and it was a complete let down. Poor service - service with a smile I think not. Took ages, rock hard roast potatoes, waited a long time, hardly any veg between us (had to ask for more and still only got one carrot). My neices desert of cookie dough took 50 minutes, when asking the waitress whether it was on the way she snapped back 'I was about to check on that.' Only asked about drinks once. For such a lovely setting that I've been to many times and for the price tag, the punchbowl has gone downhill. Certainly a mistake booking it for such a special occasion. For context, there was 8 of us, not a huge group.

Been here many times and I have to say my recent visit was a let down. I hope this doesn’t represent a decline. We were left far too long to be served, despite the staff standing around waiting for food to arrive to be served and having a chat. Eventually I had to ask a waitress if we could order to which she replied curtly ‘it’s a 20 minute wait for food!’. Certainly a lot more than that if you added on the wait to be served! I ordered the focaccia to nibble on which was £7. When it arrived (eventually) it was 2 small pieces of bread and a tapenade. Very poor value for money. Our main courses were not great either and not representative of previous quality we’ve had. My wife’s fish was very watery and bland. My chicken Normand was nice, but came with very few tasteless potatoes and a small portion of beans. Again poor value Same waitress arrived as we’d just about finished our food and asked how our meals were? I’m sure if I’d said terrible should have said thank you (just not interested). Overall a very disappointing visit with very poor service and uninspiring food which was poor value.

This is a wonderful rural pub offering high-quality meals in a lovely setting. We went for a birthday lunch and enjoyed a 3 course meal. My ham hock terrine starter and hake main course (both on the specials menu) were delicious, as was the rhubarb and apple crumble we both had for dessert. My husband enjoyed his starter but was less convinced by the lamb main course, which he said didn't quite work as executed, even if the idea sounded nice. We chose this venue for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary party. The main reason was that we had come here for our wedding reception 40 years ago! We were very impressed with the whole layout of the Punchbowl, it had a lovely garden with outside covered eating area, good sized restaurant and great event room for up to 100 people (if you include the external area). The rooms were also lovely, spacious, modern, and well appointed. The Punchbowl staff catered our party with the excellent fixed buffet, this was just about perfect but don't order too much as the amount of food was very generous. We also added some add ons fir the children attending and arranged a tea and coffee station. Nearly all our guests commented on how nice the food was. We booked the afternoon slot and after this we were encouraged to continue our celebrations in the covered eating area outside the event room. So we continued- until the small hours 😂. All the staff were very friendly and helpful - even when settling the bill! There was a service charge added but this was pointed out to us and we could change it without problem. Overall, we couldn't have hoped for a nicer day of celebration. Thank you Punchbowl

Have been to The Punchbowl previously and had fantastic food. Something has changed, maybe the chef? We didnt have starters, ordered mains which took 50 minutes to arrive which is shocking. Food arrived and was "warm" at best, called the manager who served us and he arranged for the food to be reheated !!! Was going to complain again but at least we had someting to eat. Had a sticky toffee pudding for desert, was dry and crumbly. Really poor experience, maybe they have too many covers now which means food is average at best. Why don't you reduce the amount of covers so you can cook great food instead of what I would describe as "beefeater" ??? Appreciate the young staff however no question of quality service - just looks of "whatever" There doesn't seem to be any connection between the food being cooked and then being served, probably why the food was luke warm ?? - If anybody from The Puchbowl reads this, happy to discuss further.

We had a very disappointing lunch at the Punch Bowl yesterday (Sunday 19th) which appears now to be prioritising downmarket volume and profit over the dining experience their customers enjoy. Indicative of what was to come, the car park was full when we arrived with cars overspilling onto the surrounding grass verges and on yellow lines on the roads nearby. Inside, the previous relaxing and enjoyable environment has been changed to noisy and uncomfortable, with too many tables crammed in to accommodate too many diners. The downmarket trend was also apparent in the clothing of choice for some diners who favoured shiny running shorts and cheap, ill-fitting t-shirts (despite clearly not having taken part in the Knowle Fun Run that day!) Throughout our meal we experienced the joy of a baby on a nearby table crying and yelling almost continuously, with the parents (and management) apparently oblivious to the effect of this on the experience of surrounding diners. The food itself was OK although by no means exceptional. In fairness to the waiting staff they were friendly, attentive and responsive. Previously this has been a favourite place to come for lunch or dinner but I think we will be eating elsewhere in the foreseeable future.

We have heard good reviews about the Punchbowl and so went for a special big birthday lunch. The children's chicken was cremated, and was removed from the bill. Unfortunately, my broccoli was served charcoal black. This was covering the smell of the lemon sole. The sole was served complete with intact entrails 🤢. The broccoli was removed from my plate, but I was assured that it was normal for the sole to come with the entrails. My search on Google is inconclusive, but it seems to advise that entrails should be removed from fish before cooking. A very frustrating experience, on what we hoped would be a special meal.

We were sat at our table and had to wait about 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken. In this time, two young girls were stood chatting right next to us, who could clearly see we had our menus in front waiting to order. The view out of the back was awful, clearly building work happening with no tidying up especially considering the occasion. The food then came exceptionally quick, we’re talking a couple of minutes considering we had only just ordered. We asked for more gravy and veg as we were a table of 3. We were rudely replied saying we would have to pay as we had had our allocated portion. This consisted of about 5 carrots between 3 of us so we did not see it out of order to ask for more, and extra gravy is normally free of charge. The gravy and potatoes of which were far too salty. We had our mains cleared after a while and were offered dessert menus. 15 minutes later no dessert menus had arrived, and in that time a large table had been cleared and given their menus. I then had to prompt the female for ours as she had clearly forgotten. She didn’t apologise and then rudely chucked 3 spoons on our table. Roasts are always fab here but definitely not enough roasted veg provided. Be careful to ask for more as you will be told you have had your portion and would have to pay for more. The team of girls are far too busy talking to each other than to clear tables and take orders. Then when you do have to prompt them, you get a rude response. It ruined our Mother’s Day. For the price of the meal you would expect decent service. Clearly just a team of young individuals who do not care for their role and would rather chat.

Then the walkers (9) arrived, and the service was just as good. The food was top notch. My favorite was the pork belly roast, but my fit friend had the burrata and tomato salad as a main. Then extra roast veg pinched from us, well he is the Captain and so was the ultimate modern man winner. And a big shout out for the waitress who did not blink an eye when asked for meat free roast. We went out today for my sister in law’s birthday lunch which we were all very much looking forward to as we have not been together as a family for many months. We ordered our food and when it arrived I have to say I was slightly disappointed in the mussel portion. They tasted ok but for £17.50 I think the quality and quantity was poor. My Mother and sister in law had the plaice. My sister in laws was not cooked. We complained and she ordered the cod. One of the waiting staff informed us that the plaice was cooked as should be but it was raw like sushi! We waited 30 minutes for the cod which when it finally arrived was nice. We didn’t have desserts and when the bill came we were charged for the cod which we hadn’t originally ordered and was more expensive than the plaice! We have had some lovely meals here but today it was completely overpriced and the place is overrated. I went to the Highfield in Edgbaston earlier this week and it was amazing. Maybe you should go there and take some notes on how it should be done!

I have read and heard great reviews of the Punchbowl so thought we would take a look for a birthday treat. Firstly l must say the pub is lovely and the staff very friendly and helpful, outside area to sit in and dine was very pretty. My general moan really is the limited menu which l do understand in these trying times but they were very accommodating in changing my order slightly from the menu, the big thing really is the food itself awful my chicken was terrible, chips with it were reheated oven chips l could be wrong! My husbands burger was tasteless bland, swamped in allsorts to cover it had no taste, my daughters meal was ok she said but nothing special and same with her partners he was the only quite happy one with his steak, just thought it was overpriced, over £120 for a bit of lunch and one drink each. We had a look at dessert menu, which l was looking forward to as main was so disappointing we didn't bother as again nothing really we liked, in and out in just over an hour. You may ask why we didn't complain there and then reason being you can't really do so if your food is just so bland and expect money back just pay and remember not to eat there again. I don't think l would go back for food but does look a nice place for a drink when life returns to the new normal.

The punch bowl was amazing last night . The outdoor dining space was beautifully done and the heaters kept us warm . Friendly service as ever . the food choice was smaller than normal but I can completely recommend the amazing burrata and caramelised orange. The baked pork chop was ridiculously tasty - how I have missed restaurant food take always ate never the same. Rhubarb and brown butter tart - OMG back for more in 48 hrs ! So lucky to have such a fabulous place in Lapworth

Fantastic, Covid safe, takeaway Sunday roast. Collection was so straightforward, the food was ready when they said it would be, and arrived at our car well packaged and piping hot. The portions were excellent, with the roast for 2 and a portion of chicken tenders easily filling 3 of us, and the food was some of the highest quality takeaway food we have had through lockdown. We will definitely be booking to visit to dine in once they reopen.

Obviously we couldn’t go out - so we did the next best thing and ordered a takeaway. The service was excellent - the meal arrived hot - and the food was superb. Delivered with a smile.

We’ve just had our amazing Sunday lunch which we ordered online on Saturday and picked up with COVID secure practice in place of calling the pub who put it in your car boot. The food was simply amazing, delicious and a generous portion for the price. Thank you so much, we’ve really missed a pub Sunday lunch, will be ordering next week!

We’ve had a number of takeaways from the Punchbowl recently and have been very impressed. The food and presentation has been very good restaurant quality and the online menu and ordering works really well. The staff are very efficient and deliver into your boot when you park in the car park. What’s not to like! Will definitely keep using it.

Can’t recommend a takeaway from here enough! Over the past 7-8 months we have had a delivery from the Punchbowl a number of times. Food has always been amazing and the menu perfect...something for everyone. Delivery has always been prompt and the drivers super friendly. We can’t wait to visit again once it reopens, but in the meantime we will continue to support this amazing local small business by ordering many more delicious takeaways.

Super Sunday birthday meal here. Everyone had a great meal, Sunday sharing roast and Chateau Briand highly recommended. The scallops are a must; served with apple cider gel. Just delicious and the service as always was fantastic. Everything was perfect even for a lockdown birthday! Thanks to all the staff for making it special.

We are local but had a treat night away here. We stayed in the LAURENT PERRIER suite which was spacious, immaculate and tastefully decorated. The bed was seriously comfortable and the coffee in the room was lovely. Our dinner was superb. I had scallops to start and then steak Rossini.... what can I say? I literally cannot fault any part of either dish, the food was genuinely perfect and the portions were generous - we had a couple of bottles of Rioja which was delightful and not over priced. Finally, the breakfast... full English and so tasty, crispy hast browns and I ordered poached egg which was perfect. This is genuinely our new favourite place to eat, we have booked the family in for Boxing Day but will be back before then!

I’d heard great things about how this restaurant was still providing top quality service and food - but sadly this was not our experience. We were told we would be able to have a drink at a bar table before our meal but when we arrived there was no room as they had too many ‘walk ins’. I thought I had booked so how come walk ins get preference? So we were put on a spare table in a different part of the restaurant and waited over 10 minutes for our drinks order to be taken. Awkward start to the evening. My Aperol spritz was unimpressive. We were then shown to our table in the conservatory when I had specifically requested the main restaurant but never mind, it’s v nice in there too. My scallop starter was delicious but my Dover sole main pretty tasteless, boney and minuscule. Wish I’d gone fish and chips and curry sauce. Our rhubarb and custard tart desert very bland. The service was lacking in enthusiasm and speed although perhaps this is just how it is these days. Disappointed overall but we liked the music.

Hand sanitizer and temperature testing on arrival so don’t let COVID19 put you off enjoying a meal out! Absolutely faultless from our greeting on arrival to the end of our dining experience. All the staff were incredibly friendly and professional. The ambience is warming and relaxed...now the food! The huge fish and chips with pea purée, tartare sauce and pickled onions was delicious. My wife chose the burger and this also looked amazing. The highlight for me was the lime kaffir rice pudding with tequila and orange, this was divine, presented beautifully, incredibly tasty and it was served with a lovely contrasting biscuit base of buttery loveliness! My wife chose the rhubarb and custard tart and this also looked spectacular and I can’t wait to try this.We enjoyed our experience so much that we enquired on Sunday dinner availability so we could bring along our boys and we were lucky enough to get a late reservation!

Popped in for coffee remembrance Sunday, about 11.30, took 15 mins to get served and 20 mins for my coffee. Two girls doing there best but poorly organised and I blame management for what was obviously going to be busy day! Won't be going there again
