Qubana in Wakefield

Quite frankly the worst dining experience I’ve had in a long time. Went in for a Sunday Lunch. The place was virtually empty, just six tables being occupied. The service was unbelievably slow, considering how few people were dining. Over an hour between ordering and the main course arriving, and that was for a standard Sunday Roast, which I assumed would have been pre-cooked and ready to serve. The people at the next table had their side orders delivered 20 minutes after their main meals. No apologies for the delays, and only a superficial explanation of the delay when pressed (the table before you had some “issues”). They did knock off 15%, but plonked the bill down on the table without explanation. We’d ordered desserts, but they never came (and weren’t on the bill), so I can only assume they’d forgotten that part of the order completely. Whilst the food was “adequate” I will most certainly never set foot in the place ever again. A shame, as it was good the last time I went. I was embarrassed to take my friend there on this occasion.

Having ignored this place for a few years for no particular reason I finally gave the place a try on my latest visit home. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. In the space of a week I came here four times, for drinks and food.A Cuban themed restaurant and bar looking very smart and hitting way above anything else Wakefield has to offer. The drinks, of which I had several margaritas over the different visits, were the best in Wakefield. The food was absolutely gorgeous (great choice of varied dishes). Service was friendly, helpful and professional. Prices were very reasonable considering the quality. I imagine at peak times the place would get very busy so for meals it might be best to book in advance. They also have a terrace bar and also a private dining room in the old vault which doesn't cost any extra but booking advised. They also have live music in the evenings occasionally.I really can't fault this place, it really is one of the best restaurant/bars in Wakefield. Fourth visit... Everything still amazing apart from the margarita I had, not sure the bar person knew how to make it, another member of staff gave her a quick run through but it didn't taste the greatest and the presentation wasn't as good as previous visits. No doubt I'll be back to try again in the future. Fingers crossed. Fifth visit... Food still amazing, service still brilliant (lady with piercings, she was amazing, friendly, helpful and welcoming),the manager still makes a great margarita. Cheers.

The sunday roast and the belly pork starter were so so good! The chicken was cooked to perfection. The beef was a bit over-cooked but everything else was very tasty. Comfortable place to dine in. Thank you thank you thank you

First time coming here for food and it was lovely would highly recommend.

We have been longstanding customers of Qubana and its related restaurants Fino and Robatory, and have advocated for them to others. This enhances the complete disappointment in the restaurant on NYE. We booked the Vault and were asked to provide menu choices 3-4 days in advance of the main menu, which was odd but given the struggles venues are under, we all did. We arrived early and had a drink and were politely taken to the table ten mins early and asked if wanted our starters bring and and we did. We then waited 1 hour and 45 mins for 8 dishes to be brought, we left before they had even reached an oven. We saw others seated, served and leave (family of ours who didn’t book!) and were not asked once if we wanted a drink while we waited - we were just left. Staff were asked twice about the food and said they would find I it but never came back. It was in complete disarray in the bar too with glass stacked up on the bar on nine for the staff to serve in. When we spoke to the manage at the end to explain she said “i understand”. That’s it. No apology or recovery. I understand now why restaurants are closing.

Staff lovely other than that 2hrs no food - have more respect for your customers not good enough

Great atmosphere and a good selection of delicious tapas. Best skinny fries in town. Nice selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. We all had room for dessert but everyone was disappointed with what was offered so we had to go to the supermarket to get a sticky toffee pudding and ice-cream.

5 open booths but we were sat in the middle of the restaurant like we were on trial. Calamari = disappointing. 6 tapas between 2 = still starving. The building is beautiful however overshadowed by pop music playing. The building deserves and wants classical music. This company is on a road to nowhere unfortunately - sad

Loved loved loved!!! First time visiting definitely won't be my last. Completely in love with the art deco styling of this old bank. Delicious cocktails and yummy food. We visited for Steak Monday. Excellent food, excellent value. Approachable and attentive staff. 10/10

Our group of 4 arrived on time but had to wait about 10 minutes as the only lady able to check reservations was busy with another customer. Even then, our table wasn't ready so we bought a bottle of wine and waited close by, where they could see us. Despite this, we still had to go and remind them that we were waiting before being finally led to our table - on the roof, during Storm Darragh! Our table had been booked for 2 months and we certainly did not expect to be led to a rooftop, unset table, with cushions being thrown out of the way while being made to feel like last minute walk-ins. We expressed this to the lady and off she went, retuning to lead us back down to a perfectly lovely table that we should have been given in the first place. After a while, someone came to take our food order and we ordered another bottle of wine, then we waited and waited again. We ended up having to ask where our food was and were told that we should be served shortly. We eventually got our food at 6.25pm when our table was booked for 4.45pm and even then we had to remind them that they'd forgotten some of the tapas. The food was beautiful and as we had an hour to spare, we ordered cocktails. Yet again, we waited......until someone came and told us that they didn't even have the ingredients for a Bellini. By this time, realising that none of our cocktails were coming any time soon, we had to leave for transport home. Yet again, we expressed our displeasure and management knocked us £21.36 off our bill (which isn't even the cost of a bottle of wine.) All credit to Lucy who did her best when they clearly couldn't cope with the amount of bookings they had. Management need to seriously look at the pressure they are putting on staff who are being forced into providing a sub-standard service through no fault of their own. We're all regulars here, coming with both friendship groups and families, but this has now put us off returning for any special occasions.

Waited 2 hours for our food. The place is just a riot, the waiters are well understaffed. Waiters 2 hours for prawns they were comply raw. The whole mood of the group grew angry and frustrated

On a very busy evening with reduced kitchen staff, we sat and had a lovely meal and cocktails on the terrace. Sophie and Katy went above and beyond, keeping us updated regarding food, generally being lovely, and creating a wonderful atmosphere upstairs. We can't thank you enough, you made the evening!

Shocking service! 3 hours before we ate! Don’t take notice of allergy’s when told! Booked a table for 5.30 after chasing we got sat down at 6 but were put on a table in the bar area which was really noisy. We had to get our own drinks from bar no one came until we asked someone to come over and complained. I specifically asked for dry chicken not cooked in any oils etc, potatoes and carrots with nothing on due to allergies. When it eventually came at 8.30 it was covered in grease the potatoes had a coating salt and garnish. I took it back and they recooked it when it eventually came back my friends had nearly finished eating. Again it had grease on the plate I was assured with was just juice from the chicken tasted very oily. Within 2 hours of eating it I had an allergic reaction and feel horrible it will affect me for days now. They do not take this seriously very very disappointing. Only good thing was they gave me it free. At no point what so ever did a manager come and apologise only the young waiter who was serving us who did a great job bless him given the situation.

The table was booked for 8.30, they didn't seat us until 9.15. The pre ordered starters didn't arrive until after 10pm, with the mains to follow at close to 11pm. We had to prompt to get drinks ordered, and then when we did, they took half an hour. We cancelled dessert, we didn't want to be leaving at midnight. The cod croquettes were part frozen. Hopefully, nobody is ill. Our Christmas night out was ruined, we had planned to go elsewhere after the meal but there wasn't time because of this woeful service. I've heard from other local business owners that the owner(s) of Qubana is looking to improve things, I'd more than happily speak to them, because it was embarrassingly poor. The staff described our night as 'horrific'.

Busy night, food good, but had to wait more than an hour after reservation time prior to first tapas course arriving. Serving staff very good and couteous

Had smoked aubergine and lentil curry but was hard to tell either were in there. Chunky chips were good though. Went with a group of 14 and despite pre-ordering, the food was still a bit slow in coming out. Was mid afternoon so was very very quiet. Update: been this time at 4.30 with a large group and was disappointed again. Some of the food was sent back as inedible unfortunately. Service is good but food was only average.

We have never eaten more disgusting and tasteless food than here! Terrible! Still don't understand how could spoil every dish like that! At first we waited for our order for a long time, then they brought us a starter, everything was very salty and tasteless. In the menu when we read and ordered everything was beautifully described, but in reality a huge disappointment and all the dishes look ugly, cheap products that try to disguise with salt, spices and chilli. The staff has absolutely no ability to communicate with guests. My child was so upset and we thought the dessert would help and ordered a tart, but what they brought us was a horror, the mascarpone smelled as if it had been kept for a year without a fridge and the tart was disgusting, my daughter was crying. Only the cocktails were nice. It's a shame for an establishment of this level, we are still in shock! The owner needs to change the cooks and waiters if they want people to come more than once and leave disappointed, but come back again and again.

We booked for a table of 15 to celebrate a year since our grandson had his stem cell transplant. The pre-ordering was easy enough, however we had an out of date menu sent to us and had to change some of our choices. Meals came out together and were good. We chose to pay for the drinks as we went along to make the bill less complicated. We all paid our bills separately, however at the end we still owed over £100. My daughter who was the last to pay refused the extra amount until we had checked with everyone. After the restaurant checked there was an error their side, so I would say to check your bills. This was our first time and unfortunately put us off returning

Missing items, had to contact and get another delivery, which meant first delivery was cold. When the second delivery arrived the top wasn’t on and the gravy had leaked everywhere and all had to be thrown away. Contacted Qubana and never got back to me.

Never ever going to be ordering from this restaurant ever again! Disgusting customer service and false information given by this restaurant! Long story short, placed an online order through their own website and received the order confirmation with delivery for 6:30pm. At 7:30pm rang the restaurant to ask why hasn't the order come and a worker said there was some technical issues and the order would be sent with the delivery driver straight away. Gave us the number of the driver who I contacted and he said he's got another 2 deliveries and will be 30 mins before delivering our order!! Rang back the restaurant said it's out of order the that the food is now taken 2 and a half hours and still not arrived. Cancelled the order and chased for a refund which has still not come and its been over 2 weeks! Had to go in today to complain and they could not issue a refund in store and instead asked to make the order for us (which we agreed to) and even then the food was mediocre! Staff and owners should be ashamed of themselves! Its 2024 and no order should be taking that long! Qubana better fix up! If you want bland undercooked so called "Mexican" cuisine then yeah dine here, but there's better out there! Disappointed would give -5*.

Steaks not good to more fat and gristle than meat I love my steaks but didn’t enjoy this one

Had a meal on Friday Evening up stairs on the terrace. Was very disappointed with the whole experience. The table was booked for 7 pm. First we ordered the meals on the Thursday on line as we were asked to do, when we arrived before 7pm had a drink at the bar then was taken to the terrace. The starters did not arrive until 8 clock I did not ask everybody else but my starter was not very hot. Then eventually the main course came mine was okay but i did hear different people say there's was not very hot. Overall the service was rubbish. I have been lots of times and enjoyed the food but can't see me eating there again.

This was potentially the worst dining experience i've had in nearly 30 years of eating out. The absolute lack of communication at having to wait an hour past the time we'd booked to sit down was disgusting, then being told you're at least an hour waiting for food...with no consideration for people's situations or other commitments taken into account...then you finally sit down to be told, sorry we cant offer vegan/vegeterian options when we had a vegan sat with us was absolutely appalling. Your male toilets are an absolute disgrace and a practical dungeon in comparison to the ladies you walk past on your way down. The food was bland, over priced for what your received, over seasoned, and overall very disappointing. Then you start to reach the end of the night and you get your bill, which includes food they told you wasn't available when you initially ordered and had to switch half an hour after ordering... The whole experience was god awful from start to finish, who plays i dont want no scrubs in a restuarant...we will not be back. You guys couldn't organise a bun fight in kiplings...

Pre booked and pre ordered for our party of 10 for an anniversary meal. The table wasn't ready, or set up with the ballons we'd had delivered, we had to ask on numerous occasions when it would be, 30 mins later, eventually we sat down. Had to then wait 40 minutes for starters to appear with some main course tapas dishes were brought out as starters, then the actual starters we had to chase up. Side dishes were then missing from our mains. Shocking service, the poor waitress was embarrassed about how bad it was. Won't be returning for food again and not surprised to hear it's closing down. Such a shame as I used to love this place.

The tastiest meal I’ve had for a long time. The goat curry is to die for. I dined here alone and the staff made me feel so welcome.

Great service and absolutely amazing food, really friendly waiting staff. We had the charcuterie board and bread platter as a starter and there was so much on it! So many different flavours. The Jambalaya packed with seafood. The churros sooo tasty and fresh. It was a really pleasurable experience. Thank you Qubana!!

Absolutely incredible service from all staff and the food was gorgeous. The best night I've had in a long time. Kai eve and Jake were especially tentive to our needs and provided excellent service through out the whole night, would recommend to anyone looking for that extra special night to everyone, excellent value and exceptional service from the moment you step through the doors to ordering your taxi at the end of the night

An excellent place for enjoying delicious food and drinks. The vibe is lively and fun, making it a great spot for gatherings. The staff is always very polite and friendly, which makes the experience even better. I tried several tapas, and they were all absolutely delicious. Visited with 2 friends for birthday tapas , Magdaleina took our order and was an absolute star , very attentive, polite and obviously happy in her work , the food was delicious and ample servings. We told her it was a birthday celebration and immediately offered complimentary dessert or drink for all of us , absolutely outstanding service throughout, there was also a young man that was new ( don’t know his name ) he had recently come back from Australia, he too was very professional, polite and chatty , lively meal and highly recommend.

Qubana roof top terrace - perfect location for drinks/cocktails with friends. We spent several hours here as we had the area to ourselves. This review is to commend the service provided by our waiter (whose name I didn’t get sorry!) but he’ll know who he is when reading this - he was patient , attentive & really helpful & friendly. Massive thankyou to you & for the tremendous service you provided - a credit to your team 👏

Service was very slow tonight, despite the restaurant being almost empty and lots of staff around. We had tapas and said we'd be happy for them to bring everything when it was ready but when they brought it, they brought everything together and some of it was cold. The halloumi was already cold and squeaky so must have been ready and waiting before the other dishes were ready. Staff were friendly but food wasn't anywhere near as good as we've had it before, which is disappointing for the price.

This is out go to place when meeting up with friends. The service is always excellent and the small plates are delicious. I particularly enjoy their mussels. Drinks are great-presentation fabulous and their private dining area is a favourite too. Never feel rushed and always a lovely sociable visit.

Outside of the building doesn’t draw you in but it’s a must. It’s a chilled out spacious vibe with attentive friendly staff, we didn’t want to leave and felt no rush at all to. I loved peeping inside the walk in safe. Thank you, totally recommend.

Met with a friend for a light lunch,Given the lunch menu,which had a good choice,from Tapas dishes to delicious sandwiches,also choice of chips or salad,we made our choices and were served quickly,also good choice of drinks.We were served by a lovely lady ,sorry didnt get your name,and a waiter called Nick,they were both attentive and friendly and made our lunchtime meet up very pleasant.This Restaurant is now added to our list of places to frequent.Thank You,Alan and Elaine.

We came for lunch for my friend's birthday, and had the lunch deal. The restaurant was very quiet, but we waited a long time for our drinks. I had the chicken and chorizo wrap with chunky chips. The sandwich was mostly very wet rice, which wasn't easy to eat, and the chicken was overcooked. The chips were soggy and unpleasant. I've been to Qubana several times before, and have always enjoyed it, but not this time!

Spent Friday night with. Live music 8-11pm. It was amazing. Super friendly staff too. Loved it!!

Had us wait 1 hour and 40 minutes then the order came and was completely wrong so had to wait another 25 minutes for them to change it. There was only about 6-7 people in the restraunt so dont understand how it took so long. Discounted us £7 from a £50 odd pound order. Will never step foot in this place for food again!

We order a number of tapas, but none of it really wowed us! The flavour wasn't really there. But the staff were all lovely and the decor is very nice.

Probably one of the best restaurant I've been in last couple of years in UK. We had a wide selection of tapas. Delicious. We were served by an amazing waiter with purple hair. Great service. Food outstanding!

Food - spot on, had a large meat sharing platter, was fantastic. Service - spectacular, wanted to split the bill and order drinks separately and this wasn't a problem for our waiter/server. Atmosphere - got to agree with past reviews, it was a bit too loud and couldn't hear everyone on our table properly. If music was a little bit lower or in keeping with a restaurant Atmosphere would be perfect. Other than that, thoroughly enjoyed our evening

Phoned on 19th May and asked to reserve the Vault. As we were a party of 11 I was advised that the Vault could only seat 10. I asked if the roof terrace was free and was told that it was. Surprised, I checked that we could eat from the main menu up there, and was told yes. Knowing Qubana well I was surprised by this. I checked again; yes the girl said, you can eat up there. I therefore booked for 11 people, explaining that it was for my friend’s 60th, and agreeing on a free cocktail for my friend. The girl and I discussed options, but agreed on the free cocktail. Qubana is good for the roof top terrace and the Vault. The food is not restaurant standard, so I was only happy to say yes to the terrace as the Vault was too small but the terrace is a special alternative. This conversation took place on 19th May over the phone with a young woman. I made it explicit that I would not be interested in booking the main restaurant for food. Food was required but the venue of the Vault or the Terrace was the main focus. I made the booking for 11 people for the roof terrace and I was satisfied. We arrived on 14th June and approached the stairs to the terrace, seeing a happy birthday sign at the bottom of the stairs. I thought it was a nice touch for my friend’s 60th, having discussed her birthday on the phone and been promised a birthday cocktail for her. I went upstairs to the terrace to discover an 18th birthday party that had been booked since September 2023. The Qubana staff upstairs were dismissive and not interested in my query or concern. I was SENT downstairs to resolve the query. Downstairs, the front of house woman was polite, apologetic, but skeptical, and said that she could not find my booking. She also said that there was no way of finding out who took my call on 19th May. I dispute that! My 10 ladies were ushered to the main dining area and given a large table near to the kitchen and the toilets. This was exactly what we DIDN’T want! We would have gone elsewhere for food. Qubana for us was about location; the Vault or the Roof Terrace. The front of house woman gave us 2 free bottles of wine for our disappointment. Nice, but NOT what we had booked, AND the ladies were just satisfied by it because they felt sorry for me as the planner. I ordered a burger with fat chips, and it was very tasty. All round the food went down well, but as I said earlier, was run of the mill. QUBANA, this was SO disappointing; sort it out! I felt ridiculous when I found myself upstairs at an 18th birthday party of a random young girl, and her mother was horrified at the double booking. In our party tonight was a lady to whom the SAME has happened before in your rooftop section; she wasn’t surprised by the fiasco. That’s rubbish!! By the way, my friend’s 60th Birthday cocktail NEVER transpired!!

We came for a bottomless brunch on Saturday, a group of 9 of us. Our time was 3pm-4.30pm. It was disappointing that we didn’t get served a drink until after 3.15pm, then constantly had to ask for further drinks. At another point I had been sat for 10 mins without a drink. We asked for a bottle of prosecco whilst we were waiting for our drinks to come but were refused. We asked 10 mins before the end of our session if we could have a bottle of prosecco and again were refused. Some had pornstar martinis which came in a jug and were watered down. This isn’t unlimited drinks. Food was nice, outside area was lovely. Wouldn’t recommend the bottomless brunch.

Delicious tapas, friendly service and good atmosphere. Almost did not eat here due to recent poor reviews. rating to poor service and cold food, this was not our experience at all. Lots of interesting choices for vegetarians, looking forward to our next visit already.

We have visited this restaurant many times but after our last visit not sure will go again. We called in to have a meal.... we hadn't booked but were seated and given menus straight away. After 35 minutes our drink order had not even been taken. Two groups who had arrived after us had their drinks order taken. I don't mind waiting for my food if I have a drink but to sit there for 35 minutes without anything and then to watch other customers who arrived after us being served was too much so we just got up and left. Very unsure about returning again.

Booked for a quiet catch up with an old friend. 20mins in the restaurant was taken over by a very large and extremely loud hen party. Very unprofessional to have such a large party at 12pm on a Sunday lunch taking over the whole restaurant when other diners are trying to enjoy a meal out. We were given no notice and at no time did anyone come over tell us that the restaurant was about to be turned into a dance floor with live music and very drunk women would parading up and down first thing on a Sunday. We couldn’t even hear each other talk. The service was very slow and food was over priced and was barely how you’d describe tapas.

Friendly happy service, lovely surroundings, great use of historic building. Open kitchen. Good variety of dishes on tapas menu. Curried goat was lovely, very tender and tastey. Why not a 5 across the board? 1 - Tried at 8.15 to book table by phone to be told none available and last orders 9pm, found plenty available online up to 10pm, and booked for 8.45. Were plenty of tables on arrival and walk-ins were seated after 9.30. Took quite a while for someone to greet on arrival, despite two staff noticing quickly they didn't tell front of house. 2 - music just too loud. Hard to order, one item wrong as a result but rectified quickly and taken off bill. Had work to have a conversation and everyone shouting as a result making it even louder. 3 - salmon dish quite small (cold item) Good overall, with a few tweaks could be very good. Personal preference; crisp the Bravas, make mussel sauce less fishy, swap wrap for bread. Check out the dining room at left of bar, through the old safe door. Great private dining area!

Have ordered and been sat for 50 minutes. Only 5 other tables sat and still no sign of meal. We have only ordered 6 items from the tapas menu. Really not impressed

Nice food appalling bottomless brunch service. Went here for a leaving do as a party of approximately 15 people. It took ages for them to take our drinks orders and then it took ages for the drinks to come. Not too bothered as were told the brunch started when the first drinks arrived. However after that it was farcical !!! Waiting 20 mins for next drink to come and it was only a glass of Prosecco. Same for the next drinks very very long wait.When we complained we were told they were busy ! I am not a big drinker but even I was fed up with the wait times. £35 per head for long waits for drinks and rude staff won’t be going back the only good thing about it was the food. Save your money and go somewhere where they have enough staff to cater for customers.

Went on a Saturday night so it was very busy- still got served quickly. Bar staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Lovely interior - will definitely be back!

A joint business get together of 12 persons were to a person thoroughly disappointed with the service and food provided on Tuesday night. Firstly it took over 40 minutes for someone to take our order and another 30 minutes for any food to arrive. Whilst waiting for food we had to ask for more drinks even though the restaurant was not busy. The food was the biggest disappointment with all the steaks not cooked as ordered and were cold when arriving to the table. I could add some detail but needless to say the restaurant visit was real let down and future business get togethers will be held elsewhere for sure. I cannot comment on deserts as we couldn`t wait to leave.

Really enjoyed the bottomless brunch, great service from our waiter who kept us topped up throughout and the food was excellent.

Party of 6 adults & 1 child. We were looked after very well by the lovely staff and the tapas dishes we chose were plentiful & tasty. Why only 4 stars overall then? I have an almost pathological hatred of being ripped off over the drinks in British restaurants! £7.10 for 175 ml wine, £3.40 pint of coke, £3 small bottle ginger beer. Anyway we'll probably go back again for the food but avoid the drinks other than water!! Sorry to mention this but otherwise happy.

Took around 45 minutes for our burgers to arrive, when they did they were cold. The fries were hot though. The bar offerers an extensive gin selection, however the 3 we chose were not available. Sat in a booth by the door which was draughty. Staff tried their best to be pleasant but seemed stressed. Won’t be rushing back - but will give it another try.

Excellent food and good choice of drinks. A must go area.

Firstly let me say the staff couldn’t have been nicer and the place itself was lovely. Quite busy and good atmosphere with mixed ages. The jambalaya and the chicken and chorizo wrap contents tasted exactly the same. I love tapas but was a bit disappointed with the lunch menu choice on the 3 for 12.50 option. Would we go again - probably yes

The quality and service of food are very good, however the price is a bit higher.

Loved the bottomless brunch here! I'd recommend the spinach and mushrooms, mojo chicken wings and patatas bravas!

Took very long for drinks to arrive. Got a couple of orders wrong. The Veg option came with chicken. We were group of 10 on Thursday evening, the restaurant was not too busy. Still, service was slow.

Loved it.. great food & the staff are so nice 5 adults & a toddler aged 2 for a 6 o'clock meal. A live singer who was great. Our grandson loved dancing to him singing. We moved closer to the bar afterwards for drinks made to feel welcome.

Went on mother's day with family it was lovely really good food and good atmosphere would definitely recommend

The food was good and the service ok. It was a lunchtime so there were only a few people eating so quiet.

Food was not good in general. Tempura prawns....i hardly found much prawns inside. Gravy on my food was a bit weird - very artificial or maybe something was added to it. Staff is very kind and nice. It was alao very vold we had to ask about turning on the heating. The other strange thing - weird candles in empty alcohol bottles.
