All very enjoyable, but the room could have done to be a little warmer. Will certainly go again.

We came for a New Year's Day family lunch and experienced a warm welcome and a fantastic meal which everyone enjoyed! The service from Matthew was excellent and he looked after our table very well. Thank you for the lovely meal, we'll be back again soon.

Fabulous. Drove past hundreds of times and always thought that place looks busy must try it someday. That day was today. Fantastic food!! Lamb rump with harissa rubs was cooked to perfection and the pork belly was delicious. Staff were busy but visible and were happy to help when asked. Personal opinions of the food were offered and everyone was friendly. Atmosphere was good but small personal qualm was the awful chart pop music being played…even Christmas Mariah would have been better! 😂 A great visit though, will be back!

I have been visiting The Red Lion for years and absolutely enjoying visiting with both friends and family. Kiran and her team are excellent. Their customer service is highly commendable. The food and drinks are excellent. If you are looking for a cost afternoon with friends or a lovely laid back k evening with friends then this is the place to be.

Great food and excellent selection of wines. One call out has to be the poor lighting approaching the pub from Welwyn. It is so dark and we almost missed the turning. The pub is situated just off a fast busy road and a sudden turn could be dangerous! Walking into the pub from the carpark is also poorly lit.

I didn't know this country pub was like living in London ,didn't have food some can't comment on that just had a drink the pub was lovely and comfortable but you need a mortgage to buy any drinks ,can't believe I paid at least £7 for a pint of beer it's not even a hotel

We last used the Red Lion a few years ago when our daughter was studying at Uni of Hertfordshire and this was our first return visit. Service was friendly and efficient - this could have been an issue as our visit was the last Sunday before Christmas and the pub was full! It wasn't. Orders arrived quickly, were tasty and hot. My turkey was moist and I had a generous portion. The Christmas pudding was the best I've had in a long time. Needless to say the standard has been maintained since our last visit. We were made to feel special and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Trio of roasts was epic!! Great value and very tasty. Highly recommend

Terrible place , customer service non existent people are rude waited at the desk for 25 minutes to be sited, food took 1hour to arrive at the table and when it did it was cold and expensive, unfortunately very disappointed experience don’t recommend

Went there tonight with my partner after booking a table for 8.45pm, waited to be seated for 5 minutes with member of bar staff with pink hair watching us. Went to ask her if we were getting seated, she said (with a heap of attitude) we need to sit at the bar as restaurant is private booked (despite website allowing this). She said this as though we were supposed to know, how about sort out your attitude and consider switching jobs if you don’t like people. No manager or other staff to be seen, poorly run.

We had, possibly, the best Christmas lunch we have ever had anywhere. We were brilliantly looked after by Kathy, Erika and Alfie. We are a trio of old runners, and we frequently meet on Tuesday lunchtimes at the Red Lion to compare our running exploits of the previous week. How was the food? Outstanding. How was the Red Lion? Soooo welcoming. Would we recommend eating a Christmas Special lunch? Oh yes. Most definitely. If you can, ask to be served by Kathy, Erika and Alfie.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Our server, Kathy was welcoming and warned us a large table was due and didn’t want us to be held up by them so best to order quickly which we appreciated. The food was excellent as was the service and atmosphere. We have booked to come back over Christmas

First time we have been to the restaurant and will definitely be going again.The place was busy and when the food arrived it was obvious why. We was served mainly by Erika and the service was good. Didn't have to wait long to get drinks and order food. Will definitely be going back!

Had a very lovely meal on Thursday night, food was excellent with the burgers and steaks being a favourite. Prompt and excellent service from a lovely lady called Naomi and good selection of drinks. Will be returning swiftly.

Had the best fish and chips here and our server Kathy was extremely warm and attentive. She even added logs to the fire to keep us warm.

Editing this review from 2 stars up to 4 since the general manager invited us back to make amends. The food and availability this time was much better, so all is forgiven. Keran again was the hero of the evening, she was attentive and her service was exceptional (she deserves a pay rise)! Only reason for 4 stars opposed to 5 is due to value, the food is good, but on the pricey side for gastropub food.

This place was 5 star about 3 years ago. My last visit we were waiting 15 min for previously book table 😢 and then we were sitted by the toilets. It was cod and unpleasant. Staff was friendly but not organised at all. Food was delicious, a bit pricey.

Access is difficult for anyone with a mobility problem but service and food are first class.

Dined here for the firs time yesterday on Sunday with my boyfriend. Food is absolutely delicious, we had the duo and trio roast with all four sides. We also had the halloumi fries to start which we agreed are the best we have ever had. Dessert was also gorgeous (trio of mini desserts) with the brownie being our favourite! We were served by Naomi who was super friendly and was extremely attentive. Service & food was top tier even though it was a busy sunday afternoon. Looking forward to coming back again!

We arranged a group of 20 for my Mums 80th Birthday lunch. There was a mixture of guests from 10years old to 95year olds. The restaurant was able to cater for us all. The staff were really helpful and really worked hard with allot of respect and thought. I really want to thank Kathy and Jaydee for being there and looking after the guests. 10/10!! The only slight down fall was the pre meal order. We were asked to get everyone's food requests/ allergies etc in advance of the booking, but due to a technical issue they didn't receive this. However, the restaurant pulled it out of the bag at the last moment. And the whole event without a hitch. So so impressed. Thank you to all involved, kitchen, front of house etc. My mum has a wonderful time, thanks to you. :)

All staff were extremely attentive and welcoming although we lucked out with Kathy who looked after our table for the evening. She was so kind, caring, chatty, and attentive, but above all, just a lovely person. She’s a real asset to you. Thanks again for looking after us.

Decidedly average pub food and quite mean portions on the trio of roasts. Service was basic- no one asked how our meals were even when collecting our plates. We wouldn’t go back.

First visit to our new local restaurant /pub - couldn’t be happier. We all had something different and couldn’t fault anything - recommend the pies !! Fabulous consideration for the drivers / non drinkers with tasty cocktails or mocktails? Could possibly bring down the price of desserts but that’s the only negative 😀. Thanks Red Lion

I recently visited The Red Lion Pub, and I must say it exceeded all expectations. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. Beth, one of the staff members, went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Lovely place for lunch. Just a shame some idiot hit my car in the car park - not the pubs fault of course

The temperature in the restaurant was cold. Food was average. Service good but no atmosphere.

Sadly, a very underwhelming and disappointing experience. Our table wasn't ready on arrival, and when it was we were crammed into a small back room with little room to manoeuvre into our seats. It took an hour and 15 minutes for our food to arrive which even for a busy Sunday feels like an excessively long time. The food itself was enormously disappointing for the price. The roast beef was delicious, but was let down by the rest of the food. Both the Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were hard and dry, and no amount of gravy could rescue them. The rest of the table had similar issues with their meals too. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars and recognising it was a very busy Sunday, but given we paid around £20 per main meal I expected a lot more. Most other reviews are overwhelmingly positive so looks like we just had some bad luck which is a shame.

Today 15.09.24 we visited for Sunday lunch. Can only say one word SUPBERB. All 3 of us had different starters, mains and desserts. All of the same quality and standard. Chef exceptional. Waitress was friendly and helpful and the other young lady with glasses who didn't serve us, was so so friendly and pleasant to us. Impressed. The young men waiters too. So thank you to the Manager and his staff. Great All round. Update. Returned for 2nd visit tonight 21/10/24 and just got to say the food was again outstanding 👌 and didn't disappoint. So thank you. Look forward to returning when we next visit WGC.

Both starters (crab tien on sourdough, and spicy chicken morsels) were excellent. The beef and merlot pie was outstanding - best pastry crust I've had in years, and my partners fish and chips were really good. The only negative was that my (second glass of) wine that was ordered when we finished starters didn't arrive until after I'd finished the main! It was a Friday night and the bar was busy, but it would have been better to prioritise restaurant guest /drinks.

We had a fabulous meal last night. We had the Wine & Dine Experience and the food was excellent, as was the Chapel Down wine. Our waitress was very friendly, the restaurant was atmospheric and the after dinner cocktails finished the night off! Cant wait to come back

Excellent service especially from the support received by the host. He was able to allow us access to the pub with the pushchair and helped us carry it out when we were finished. We had a roast dinner, it was tasty and great portion size, we went on to dessert and that top everything off. Our friends from the Midlands were very impressed too. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were so lovely and constantly busy and attentive. We will definitely come again.

Had Sunday lunch with family and it was very tasty with an enormous yorkshire pudding and reasonably priced for the plate of food served. Only criticism was the bar type chairs. I was unable to put my feet on the floor as they would not reach !! Will ask for a normal table and chairs when I book again 👍

A lovely pub and great food. A cut above your average pub.

While the food was outstanding, I was unfortunately disappointed by the service during my visit. This is the second time I’ve encountered issues with customer service at your restaurant. During our visit, I was with my toddler, and after we were served our food, no one came by to clear our plates after we had finished eating approximately an hour later, no one had come to see if we needed more drinks. I had to approach a staff member to request a dessert menu, as I had promised my child ice cream if he finished his meal, which he did. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty and staff members visibly available, we waited an additional 20 minutes, yet the menu was never brought to us.
